Friendly staff; enjoyable swim; top breakfast; picturesque setting
Helpfulness and welcome of reception staff
The restaurant service was excellent as was the food. The public rooms were lovely as were the gardens. The staff were friendly and helpful. Had breakfast in our room which arrived hot and was was well cooked. I'm afraid it really let itself down with the room which was tiny and inadequate and right bang next to the lift - and there was a wedding on. Not even room to hang our clothes in the wardrobe. We appeared to have a plastic mattress cover under the sheet which rustled every time you moved and meant that the sheet kept sliding around and rucking up. Made me feel as if I was bedridden! Mentioned the size of the room at the time to reception and even though other rooms were apparently available there was no offer to move us. Shame really because the rest of the experience was so nice. Suggest avoid Room 220!
The meals and restaurant staff were excellent - our congratulations to the chef We didn't like the plastic incontinence sheets on the bed!
Relaxing atmosphere, lovely decor and centrality to the village
good facilities felt the the room was fair too small & being next to the lift & toilets was very noisy. Didn't feel that the size & location of the room justified the price
Friendly, helpful service, excellent food.
the freindliness of all the staff, the relaxing atmosphere,it was an all round enjoyable experiance the piano was pleasant at the start but became very tedious with the same type of music being played over again would have been better if music was varied ie; light jazz, folk music.
The change from personal waiter service at breakfast to help yourself buffet on the second day
The breakfast was super. Buffet style so you could have exactly what you wanted. The bacon was delicious. The staff very attentive. Nothing.
pleasant staff and a comfortable atmosphere in an ideal location for day trips to most of the areas attractions including the lake steamers. Excellent breakfast. winding passage ways to the room situated over the indoor pool. Bar meals perhaps used some re-heated food?
Lesure facilities. Real Ale
The room itself was very comfortable but the lighting, intended to be cosy and intimate, was just dingy and it was not easy to read after daylight, despite bedside spotlights. Beyond the room, the place is in urgent need of refurbishment.
Really enjoyed our stay. Not much in walking distance of the hotel.
the friendliness of the staff, the comfort and the quality of the food could not find fault
Reception staff very friendly and helpful. There was everything we required in the room. Good swimming pool. Good centre point for the places we were visiting. The restaurant really lacked atmosphere and the food was tasty but not worth the money. We would have been better off in the bar. No bread, rolls or croissants at breakfast other than the toast they provided from the kitchen.
T he gardens and the ground wonderfullthe staff very very helpfull. Concerns about the cleanliness of the pool.
Not a lot Cleanliness / Staff sat about after shifts finished slagging off hotel and moaning about understaffing and Faulty Towers likeness / No availability of the room I booked / Meals not very good, ran out of steak, toast didn't arrive with breakfast if at all. / Place was dirty.
The quality of the food served at this hotel was magnificent. The two nights we stayed here we experienced proberly the best two meals that we had tasted in a long time. The pool facilities were very enjoyable and we had a very relaxing time. For the price that we had paid for the experience of such a room we were very disappointed with the mattress on the bed. It was not comfortable at all. In fact it was very uncomfortable. You could feel the springs in your back and rear end and i Got up in the morning with a sore back. We also felt that for this type of room that a dvd player and free wi-fi in the room wouldn't be too much to ask. Although the staff at reception were very pleasant i felt that a lot more local information could maybe have been relayed, for example we found out from another establishment were we had a lunch at that the zoo was doing free admission, but no one at our hotel had told us this.
Not much. The jacuzzi bath? Nothing else. Poor service. Poor standard of cleanliness. Food poor. No feedback from Manager over a complaint. Appalling value for money
Our room was newly refurbished, very warm, luxurious and welcoming. The staff were exceptional: showing real interest in the well-being of their guests and humour. The evening meal was very good and made with local produce. Having got lost on a mountain (!) the staff's kindness and concern was fantastic: waiting up late for us to come in, washing and drying clothes and providing breakfast in bed. Really recommendable and we'd definitely stay there again.
Warm welcome, fantastic room and great food.
Everything was excellent - Could not be faulted
Breakfasts excellent, staff friendly and helpful Being allocated a room on the top floor, without a lift. Also room was quite small. No comfortable chairs in room and Not particularly 'relaxing'
Staff were helpful, and the hote was very clean
We were very pleased with the warm welcome and friendly service we received at the Knoll Country House. In addition, the rooms were very comfortable and the food was excellent.
Fantastic room, wonderful food, very friendly staff. we will be back again soon
The friendliness and personal touch
Everything was superb. Especially the food
Location is good and countryside is stunning, rooms were very comfortable. Breakfast menu was comprehensive and food was excellent. Have stayed here twice now (out of season) and disappointed that on neither occassion was the resturant open in the evening. That said there is a good option just down the road.
I liked the idea of being in the town and not having to drive at night to eawt.
Curtains don't cut enough light out so woke up very early.
Breakfast was huge and very nice. The lady serving breakfast was very pleasant and efficient. The room was very nice. The hotel was too expensive. We felt the staff were rude when we couldn't get the jacuzzi to work (why couldn't there just have been a note in the room about it?) and even when we got it working it was broken and not very good. The wi-fi also didn't work for most of the time we were there and although it suddenly started working on both our laptops on the last night without us doing anything differently. There was a large, what appeared to be school or youth club, group there at the same time and they made noise, left rubbish in the halls and generally gave the whole place the atmosphere of a youth hostel, particularly at breakfast - really not acceptable for the price we were paying.
Pleasant room, comfortable bed. N/A
The owners were very welcoming and helpful. The tranquility of the area and the breakfast. Paying to park the car.The poor signal for the T.V. The restaurant served very poor evening meals.
Lovely large room with excellent view of garden & convenient to town. Pity they don't have facility for own parking or reduction for parking in public car park.
Beautiful building, quiet and peaceful yet close to all amenities.
how friendly the staff was and nothing was to much trouble no
Comfortable, unassuming; my wife appreciated being able to smoke in our room. No
Brand new on suite. first class. bedroom very poorly furnished, re- decoration a must. This was supposed to be a superior room.
High quality accomodation particularly bathroom. Excellent breakfast menu. Polite helpful owners No bad points
Our bedroom and en-suite bathroom were extremely well-equipped; there were even two glasses of sherry waiting for us on arrival. Jenny, one of the hosts, was very welcoming and there was a huge choice of breakfast options catering for for all appetites. The Derby Arms was a 5 minute walk away and served excellent quality bar snacks. They also have a restaurant, but you nned to book for Saturday evenings.
The ownwer is kindness. Dogs are friendly.
very nice owners, really thought of everything to make your stay as nice as possible.
Rural location, attentive service from owner. Road noise.
The owners are very friendly and will go out of there way to help you. They cook a fantastic breakfast every morning. Our room was very clean and tidy, bed very comfortable.
Nice room, and very nice bathroom - all well stocked. Divine breakfast with lots of choice. Friendly hosts. We were right next to the main highway, so it was very noisy. The traffic only let up briefly in the wee hours!
Great place to stay, friendly hosts. Lovely room and a great breakfast
The owners were lovely. The room was far superior to a 4 star hotel we had stayed in recently, The thoughtfulness and service were outstanding with lovely touches like a glass of sherry in the room and a wind up torch if you wanted to go to the local pub, only 75 yards away and also very good.. Breakfast was excellent. I took one look at my neighbours and went for the single order which was more than adequate and very tasty.
Comfortable, welcoming, home from home, nice food/ well presented. None
A very warm welcome on our arrival , greeted with fresh coffee & scones.staff were 100% friendly. will book again soon.
We had a fabulous stay at No 43 and we're already planning our next visit. The staff were friendly and helpful, the accommodation was first class, the food was delicious and all the extra special touches such as tea and cake on arrival made us feel really at home.
Happy friendly owner. Nice comfortable room. Good breakfast. Lounge and dining area make it seem like home from home. Long climb to entrance (not suitable for people with walking difficulties)
Very friendly staff, gorgeous rooms and surrounding locations. Good selection of breakfasts; made to feel very welcome. Would definitely recommend. Very quiet place to visit but many surrounding villages.
We liked the lovely decor throughout this beautiful house, the toilietries and the quality products in the room. Our room was very small and the en suite was really small.
Everything. The rooms were very comfortable and luxurious, the staff were very friendly, the breakfasts were excellent and the location was beautiful.
Excellent service and little added extras made all the difference, staff friendly and whole village welcoming None whatsoever only bad point was coming home
We spent a very good night in this excellent, nice and very clean hotel The owner was not here went we came at 9pm and impossible to reach by phone, but despite that all wen ok after somebody from the nearest pub reached her
The room and the service. The shared breakfast table with other guests.
The hotel had a fairly extensive refurb recently & the facilities were excellent. Staff were very obliging & helpful. The bar & food prices were city centre not provincial.
Wireless Internet Hotspot is available in the entire hotel and is free of charge. yah right!! It was free but not available in my room so ask before you book.
Staff were excellent, hotel has lots of charactor, food really good. Has just reopened after extensive damage from floods, some building work still going on.
The rooms are clean, spacious & very comfortable. Very friendly staff that made us feel very welcome. Food in the restuarant was very nice, with a relaxed atmosphere. Was abit out of the way for local restaurants & shops, needed to travel by car every day, but this also added to its appeal
The location and the river in front There was a huge wedding we did not know about and the hotel was constantly busy, and noisy with the guests. We came to relax and instead we had to hear them all around! the spa mixed our bookings and we were booked for the wrong times and wrong treatments! The reception at least when we arrived was so busy with the wedding that we felt like we are no one there. After speaking to the hotel manager (Claire), she was very kind and helpful and were compensated for the poor services (Reception-wrong room type given to us, Spa-as mentioned, restaurant-waiting time for a sandwich of 45 min!) that we received. I suppose that if there was no wedding that weekend, we would of enjoy our stay a lot more!
The staff were really friendly and helpful; I liked the style and size of the room; the leisure facilities and food were very good.
Friendly staff, enjoyable spa Some aspects of the room looked unfinished
rooms, pool and facilities. good breakfast we ate at the Fisherman's Bar. Service was good and staff helpful but general ambiance a little disappointing and menu limited
Staff friendliness Backed onto car park
Good staff, reasonably priced restaurant and use of leisure facilities
All the staff were friendly, very helpful and attentive to our requirements including finding storage inside for 3 bikes. All rooms in the hotel decorated tastefully in very comfortable surroundings. Bedroom and en suite bathroom very good. The hotel provided excellent meals with an exciting menu.
We really liked our room -a big and comfortable bed (enough space for 2adults and a moving around baby:-))) lovely, clean bathroom, decor. Staff were really friendly and helpful and they gave us a warm welcome even though we arrived after 23:00. Breakfast was nicely presented and tasted good. We could hear a big bang every time someone was trying to shut the door between a little hall leading to the toilets and the pub. It was quite annoying especially in the late evening. When we mentioned it to the hotel staff they promised to rectify the problem.
Friendly staff, clean room, good food. Continental breakfast excellent. Good value for money
A clean and comfortable room with a huge en suite bathroom. Friendly and pleasant staff and excellent beer.
Staff could not be more obliging-Room kept clean and beds made up every-day-Food of the highest order with a varied menu .
Bed huge and extremely comfortable which I find to be rare when staying away. Had booked a room which was advertised as having a roll top bath which sounded lovely but on arrival there was no bath, roll top or otherwise (also no door to separate bathroom). Also some confusion as to cost of room as we had got a price of £65 online but on settling the bill was asked for £85 - not sure how this happened. Food interesting - portions way too big and most dishes seemed to consist of the same ingredients which was rather odd.
The staff were very helpful and welcoming. The area was attractive and was close to the motorway . It provided acess to the southern lakes 20mins and the northern lakes 40mins.Internet access was good I would stay there again. There were a number of minor and expected problems. The room had a musty smell as did the corridor. The sink in the en suite was cracked but it was perfectly usable and the owner said she was going to address the issue. The main problem was the fact that the Derby Arms is a very popular pub and eating place in the area.Noise levals were high a problem made more difficult by having to have the windows open due to the musty smell and the humidity in the room.
We felt very welcome, the staff were great, they could not do enough for us, the room was very nice and homely None!!
The only good thing about the derby arms the rooms had been recently refurbished so they were clean and modern the food was quite good and plentyfull The bar and dinning room were seriously in need of refurbishment their was an old musty smell in parts of the hotel
Could find little fault with the hotel. Room was more then adequate and the staff were friendly, food was good and the location was close to the shops, pubs and sea.
Fantastic setting, staff & food
good service catering good walking distants to town good going down not good for senior citizens coming up
The friendly helpful staff and the choice and quality of the food Everything was perfect
we only stayed one night. the bed was uncomfortable but this was outweighed by the excellent food. brilliant breakfast. we would certainly use this hotel again. very good value for money.
Good food, accomidation was to a high standard , value for money would return again. no
Lovely old building, beautiful setting, very comfortable room, breakfast and evening meals excellent quality. Staff very pleasant. Welcoming lounge with log fire. Nice to be able to access walks direct from hotel. Only negative comment was the lack of view from our room. Next time, we'll contact them beforehand to discuss. Room itself was lovely. Also quite hard to find the hotel - make sure you get clear directions beforehand. No fun trying to find it in the dark and rain. Not a criticism - just advice for future bookings. A very kind local cafe manager showed us the way!
Location,All of answer 2.
Nice Location, Friendly Atmosphere, Good Food.
Food excellent and its very peaceful
The staff, food and view from the room make this an exceptional Hotel
Excellent service, attentive staff, excellent food. None
The hotel was a real find. The location was perfect, the service excellant. The breakfast was one of the best we have had on our various travels. The staff were friendlt polite and efficient. A real gem of a hotel we only stayed one night but felt like a member of the family.
The fabulous views from our bedroom, masses of fluffy towels, comfortable bed. The bedroom was only really big enough for 1 person, there was dirt around the edges of the bathroom and the basin was cracked.
Relaxed friendly atmosphere, staff were efficient, organised, clean and the room was comfortable with a stunning view across the bay. Food was cooked to perfection. The steak knives were not sharp enough to cut through our steaks. The brandy was a bit pricey at 10.00 a shot, but didn't complain, because everything else was worth it!
Absolutely fantastic hotel. The staff were all very helpful and happy, the room was very comnfortable, and we could even take our dog. The restaurant alone is worth the trip. Brilliant food, good portions and unintrusive good service. We will definitely go back.
nice food in the resturant sitting in the dark for 2 hours after a power cut!
Staff and quailty of service were excellent. house was beautiful and food was great. Not a bad point as such, but a shower curtain and a hook to hang the shower head, so that you could have a shower would have been preferable, especially if you are a large person.
Excellent staff Need better quality bed (back problem)
Nice country house hotel without being pretentious
Lovely friendly and professional staff. Very clean rooms, and thoughtful attention to detail. The manor had an interesting history and was in a lovely setting. Only a minor thing, the hotel was too warm. We have found this quite a common thing in the UK, everything is overheated. You could save so much money if you turned the temperature down a few degrees.
Very friendly. Welcoming. The food was excellent with a different menu nightly. Breakfast freshly cooked to order. Fresh milk provided in the room for tea/coffee.
Staff were very friendly and helpful Nothing
the partners were very much in evidence and very professional The gardens surrounding house could be improved
Lovely hotel with good views and friendly, efficient staff.
The quirky manor house in the country setting is beautiful, and the customer service and food at this family run hotel was excellent. There was a wide selection at breakfast all freshly cooked to order. We had dinner one night while we were there, which was lovely. There was plenty of info about the area, including printed sheets on local walks. Staff at the hotel couldn't have been better. Lumpy pillows, old fashioned bedding, room on top floor very hot. All minor things.
The hotel was situated in a rural area and had beautiful scenery around it. The hotel looked like a home and felt very welcoming. The bathroom was a little small and the bath was very small. The bed was not very comfy, but hey! We were on hoilday so you make the most of. It would have been nice to have had a tv in one of the sitting rooms as the one in the bedroom was hardly watchable, but that could have been down to the heavy rain that went on that night.
