Pros: We had a wonderful stay at Casa Carvalhal. The beautiful house is located in a pretty small village with several resaurants and is a good base for exploring the area. We were warmly welcomed by Herman and Luc. We stayed in a very comfortable, luxury , clean double room with terrace .There was also a large shared living room at our disposal, where Herman and Luc joinded us for a nice conversation. They were very attentive, with an eye for detail. Breakfast was super with fresh fruits, local cheese and meat, homemade granola and jams. We were here for 3 nights but would have liked to stay longer to view more of the surroundings and enjoy the beautiful garden. Conclusion: if you want, for example, to visit Coimbra or Serra de Lousa with beautiful schist villages, or you like to cycle in a beautiful landscape on the Ecopista do Dao, then Casa Carvahal is highly recommended. Herman and Luc, thank you very much for your hospitality and good care!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The only think what I can say is perfect. Owners are super simpatics, they have just started this bussiness, but they do it very well. Breakfast is a dream with fresh fruit, fresh orange juise, fresh bread. ect. Coffee is in every variation, actually I had double expresso every morning :D Restaurants and river beaches are in walking distance. We go back next year. If someone likes to make a rest in the middle of the nature, is a perfect choice.

Pros: Excellent breakfast exceeded expectations with all the right local ingridients for a healthy and tasty breakfast, super clean room and bathrooms, wide and very confortable beds, modern spartan and best of breed construction materials for a cozy and at the same time elegant experience, with state of art tech all around and also super wifi for the kids to check on YouTube or netflix and more than enough for savvy work oriented to be up to date with emails, and all of it extremely well managed by two fantastic hosts.
Cons: Inside the rooms the wooden walls are brand new and still bear an intense smell, which for those who have some allergies or asthma or more sensitive olfact can feel some discomfort

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Charming place with a great story, lovely pool and relaxing garden areas, friendly host and partner, perfect stop off
Cons: Dinner was served much later than we had been told, we were the only ones eating and it was expensive and appeared to be a set meal but everything was priced individually and probably my fault that I didn't ask for the price in advance ..the goat stew was delicious. Shower unit was shabby and needed replacing.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location and atmosphere in the middle of Nature with great service, I couldn't wish for more. Perfect service provided by the staff and specially by Mr. Carlos (the owner). From the beautiful river to the amazing home cooked dinner, not forgetting the pool with a great surroundings.

Pros: Lovely host with lovely animals
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The place is just perfect and Maria is an incredible host! When I arrived, she gave me an upgrade for free. The room was very beautiful, clean, comfortable and the balcony was big. The view was amazing, you can see the village and the mountains around you, while having a glass of the different wines on offer in the evening sun. There is also a garden with sun chairs and a terrace to enjoy your meal outside. Maria is a very welcoming person, who gives a lot of helpful advices for places to visit. Since I was traveling alone, she even gave me her phone number, just in case if I get lost or having any problems while being alone in the mountains. Especially when you are a young woman, or traveling alone in general, this place is perfect. But it is also perfect for couples or friends to go there! The bathroom was equipped with a hairdryer and products are free to use. Not to mention the great breakfast in the morning! Maria prepared a buffet with a huge variety: different types of bread and self made cake, vegan options for milk, different types of cereals and so on... It was delicious and a perfect start into the day. This is just the perfect place to stop while traveling through the country. Thank you so much Maria for this experience!
Cons: There is nothing, that I didn't like
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hostess is just phenomenal. Charming, funny and very knowledgeable of the area. The breakfast was amazing and the surroundings of the house give you peace and comfort. Extra cookie points for the swing above the house that will give you amazing views and a rush.
Cons: I have, literally, nothing bad to say. We knew the room didn't have a private bathroom, but trust me it will feel like one. D.Maria da Graça will make you feel at home right away.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Maria was a wonderful hostess. She prepared our evening meals and they were quite good. She was very considerate and cooked according to what my Kidney problem needed. Very thoughtful. much
Cons: The only thing we didn't like was the 20euro per night for our two small dogs. Since she had no responsibility for the dogs and didn't have to feed them it added 60 euros to our bill for 3 nights. Just too much. I wouldn't have minded paying 10 euros per night, but she said no. When we travel with our well trained small dogs we have never been charged, and some of the places are nicer for the dogs. This would be the only reason we would not stay there again. We still enjoyed our stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The host was very helpful
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Maria was a lovely host, it really felt like home. We would love to come back someday and stay a bit longer.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved the peace and quiet at Magnolia Cottage ... a calm oasis after our long journey. We were greeted with cool drinks which we enjoyed in a shady spot of the garden. Our host couldn't have been kinder and she had thought of all our needs for our stay. We enjoyed our cosy bedroom and the balcony with a view of the hills. Breakfast was wonderful with amongst others things, home made jam and cakes and fantastic coffee. We ate it out on the spacious terrace whist enjoying the tranquillity of the surrounding countryside. A little gem of a place. To be warmly recommended. Sue and Rudi, Germany

Pros: Such a wonderful place restaured with great taste and using very good material. Honestly, so different from the rental where you have cheap ikea and low quality kitchen items Fresh bread delivered on your doorstep (literally) every morning Restaurant on site - decent food and good value (set dish every day) A really beautiful place - would be delighted to come back
Cons: Not cheap Our house did not have a washing machine which would have been useful

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Stunning design, down to the smallest details. Amazing hospitality, very private and quiet. Absolutely perfect!
Cons: That we only stayed 2 nights :)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was an extraordinary setting: stone houses that had been abandoned 80 years, reconstructed into gorgeously designed modern buildings with beautiful artistic objects and furnishings. The architect built modern finished stone and wooden touches into the walls of our abode (bedroom upstairs and living room-full kitchen downstairs) in a very pleasing, artistic way. Each unit also has an outdoor terrace, which was very nice. Breakfast was private and unusual, in that our hosts provided jams, fruit, and cheese in the refrigerator the day before, coffee and tea for us to make ourselves, and, each morning, a cloth bag of fresh breads. Dinner was offered, and we ate dinner there two nights. We were one of only two couples each of the nights. Our chef was very accommodating to our needs, and the food was delicious and well worth the modest price. The dining staff and concierge were exceedingly helpful and gracious. Overall, we were very comfortable. The setting is very rural, and there are walking trails and paths nearby to explore. Our concierge loaned us a hand held GPS device to keep from getting lost.
Cons: Nothing.

Pros: Perfect location right on the Camino path. This property has very modern and comfortable rooms. Did not take advantage of the spa (had only one night before continuing our walk ... lol). Highly rcommended
Cons: There is nothing I would point to as a major are for improvement. The only small point could be opening for breakfast earlier for pilgrims staying here as many of us would like an early start.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean, funky modern, and well appointed. Staff very helpful...directed me to a restaurant that prepared the best meal I had on the entire Portuguese Camino.
Cons: N/A. Bottled water in the room would have been a nice touch.

Pros: The family host was friendly. The property garden was well maintained. We rented the family unit (small and cute house by the pool). We were pleased to get complimentary shower gel, shampoo and shower cap.
Cons: We did not receive the directions to get there nor any GPS coordinates. We found it by luck. There was an issue with the Internet connexion once we were settled in the rental. The swimming pool was not heated. The hosts barely spoke English or French. There was no toaster in the unit.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Our host was very friendly and helpful, and although it was not easy to communicate (we don't speak Portugese, she doesn't speak English) we didn't miss a thing! The breakfast was exceptionally good, and we were offered a variety of fresh bread rolls and croissants, marmelades, chocolate spread, cheese and cold cuts, scrambled eggs, fruits and even homemade cake. The room was cozy and heated, which was important as it was freezing outside during our stay. The bathroom (private, but across the hall) is spacious and has a bathtub.
Cons: The bathroom was very cold, so be prepared if you visit in winter.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great hotel. We had a room on second floor , so had a nice view at the morning. Quite and clean room. Has Indoor pool, jacuzzi and sauna.
Cons: The crib we asked for was very - very small( if your child more than 1 y.o. she wouldn’t fit it)
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Swimming pool and sauna were amazing, great staff especially the lady on reception. Rooms are large and comfortable
Cons: It’s a bit far from other attractions, you would need a car to do anything outside of the hotel, room service would be something I would pay extra for and a restaurant downstairs that serves food, the food in the restaurant associated with the hotel is awful.
7.5 Good
Pros: It’s nice to wake up with a view to trees in the nature park and hear the birds tweeting, and the Tesla destination charger was handy (though odd they didn’t have two chargers as normally is the case, and the sign even said 2 spots when there is just a single charger)
Cons: Breakfast could be improved. Serving orange squash instead of fresh orange juice in Portugal should be a crime. Also the yogurts were cheap and unhealthy. If it’s an eco friendly hotel you should have locally sourced orange juice from real oranges and make your own yogurt from local milk, or buy nice local yogurt. The restaurant I found disappointing also. Chanfana and soup were fine but regular dishes like steak and bacalhau were poor.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Everything else :)
Cons: The indoor pool area doesn't have space for people... A few pool chairs and very little, to no space, for people to sit back and relax.

Cons: All was Ok
10.0 Excellent
Pros: When I first made the reservation I was expecting a usual country home but I was surprised by a modern home that has all the facilities, which is unusual being in that location. The view is breathtaking and the atmosphere is relaxing. The room was very clean and elegently decorated and the bed was so comfy that we had a great night sleep. The bathroom is great and the shower, with all the toiletries that you can find in a 5 stars hotel. The breakfast was varied and prepared with so much love and care. The owner is an extraordinary and knowledgable lady, we had a great time talking to her, she lives there with her mother, a very sweet lady also. They welcome you with such warmness that you feel at home.
Cons: Maybe just that the wifi does not work inside the room but who needs wifi with such lovely views
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely sweet and helpful People, wonderful breakfast. The room and bed was excellent.
Cons: The tables in all rooms are overfull and things could be reduced.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: The place, the house was great!

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Talasnal is a wonderful place to visit. Casa Pricsa Peralta is one of the few houses that has car access. The house is equipped with modern appliances although on the outside the house looks like a traditional schist house. The host Paulo, is very friendly and will try to help you feel like home.
Cons: The car access is a bit steep. You need to be a good driver to make it
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We found the property to be just what had been expected and more. Very clean, well appointed and tucked away in a magical area. Pros: Clean and central. Next to a bar! The pool was lovely
Cons: No restaurant The only negative was the pillows- very lumpy
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great staff, kind, available and efficient. Very good breakfast. Good room and general facilities. Good value for money.
Cons: Sound insulation could be better (e.g. room's door).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This is an 11 room, family-run hotel with a very high standard, swimming pool and a minute from the town centre but quiet. The breakfasts are excellent, with a wide choice and plenty of different fresh fruits. Cleanliness and neatness show how much this family cares--and they do care! They treat people as individuals to get to know and are helpful when needed. The building is a good standard, with modern hotel features implemented. It's as if they've visited a 5-star hotel and taken home all the lessons and qualities. I would recommend it to anyone. There's also an excellent restaurant just down the road, offering well-cooked large meals for very reasonable prices.
Cons: I had to make a quick trip and hadn't got a grasp of the language. The family's grasp of English was, on the whole, limited. That's understandable as the hotel is upcountry. However, they did their utmost and brought their best English speaker whenever I needed it, so it never became a problem.
7.5 Good
Pros: We have stayed here before and it is still a good hotel, our only complaint is that the room was very hot and the air con was not able to cope so sleeping was a problem.... The staff are very nice and in particular Carla who works on reception as well as cleaning and sometimes the breakfast duty
Cons: Air conditioning was poor

7.5 Good
Pros: nice sized bed
Cons: room a little soulless and cold
5.0 Okay
Pros: The hotel was good value for money and the staff were very nice.
Cons: The spa was a nice added extra. However, allowing families with children to use the facilities at all hours often meant it felt like a community swimming pool rather than a place to really relax and unwind. I understand that family's need access to the pool too but I would suggest a compromise and to have a no children policy after a certain time. It was not relaxing to have screaming children in the jacuzzi. No children after 6pm might be a good compromise for everyone. We didn't eat in the restaurant as it was very expensive compared to other good eateries in the area. It is a shame the history of the building was not taken into consideration during the interior design of the hotel.
7.9 Good
Pros: The external swimming pool was great. The restaurant was amazing
Cons: The internal Jacuzzi was not working properly. The space around the swimming pool need some repairs
7.5 Good
Pros: the staff, the location, the size of the room, the facilities, the easy in and out of the highway, proximity to places of our interest. The bar is great,
Cons: mattress was in terrible shape, springs were showing here and there, which made it very uncomfortable. Bathroom fixtures need renewal, the grouting showed some mold, internet was pretty faulty inside the room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable.Good food.Great facillities.Quiet rooms,clean and so new!!
Cons: Nothing to dislike.
7.9 Good
Pros: The location - absolutely beautiful... scenic, quiet and had a feel of a ‘retreat’ rather than a holiday hotel Staff - the food/bar serving and hotel reception staff were first class, they couldn’t do enough for us. Delightful! Food - standard was excellent, delicious!
Cons: The room maid service needs improvement; they forgot to replace toilet rolls, fridge contents, coffee capsules, they often didn’t clean up dirty cups and the floor was left dirty. Felt like they replaced towels and made the bed only. The timing of their visits was often annoying (4-5pm) just when you want to shower and go out for dinner... and after the ‘Tidy Room’ sign had been on the door for hours all day. The spa facilities - disappointing to find infant children screaming and shouting in the spa pool and jacuzzi with inflatables! Have never known this anywhere. Should not be allowed. We looked in four times but it was swamped with unruly kids every time. Such a shame. A spa hotel is often chosen for reasons of needing peace and tranquility. Overall... Hotel needs to make its mind up whether it wants to be a peaceful spa retreat (great potential) or, a family holiday hotel. A simple improvement would be to ban kids under 12 in the spa facilities and certainly never allow inflatables in there. We were looking forward to using the spa facilities but, with the steam room out of action and kids running around jumping and screaming ... it put us off.... even my 14 year old daughter didn’t want to go in there which, was a big disappointment to her Would work amazingly well as a ‘spa retreat for adults only’ or at least, kids of 12+ for which, the hotel could charge a premium. Additionally, in the beautiful, large, green garden area outside the bar, with lots of space.. how about another pool for children (separate the pools for different requirements). Would like to thank the wonderful bar/restaurant and reception staff who were just lovely... and so hard working...

The breakfast of fresh juice (from right on the property), local honey, and eggs, and freshly baked bread was amazing. Pros: The panorama from the room
Cons: We arrived to the hotel late (about 20:00) , we asked for something to eat ,because the kitchen was almost closed ,we got two cups of soup and limited select of cheese (we don’t eat ham) ,and paid for it a lot of money. The bed was with thin mattress ,in the bathroom there were not hangers for the clothes .

Pros: Our room had a beautiful view and an even more lovely Gargoyle
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Excellent breakfast spread. Restaurant facilities were equally good with food of a high standard and good value for money. The facilities are kept in very good order internally, cleanliness is great with good attention to detail.
Cons: The whole building is suffering from a lack of external maintenance. It has been very carefully maintained internally but the exterior requires urgent attention in our view. Its a shame to think that such a jewel of a building so well managed from the front desk to all aspects internally can be left to decay. Hope they are holding back for an out of season refurbishment.
