Hotel clean, great location, and fair price. Staff was good too. Room was just fair. a bit rundown- no elevator
convenience to the centre of bayeux and all its attractions The rooms on the top floor under the roof had very limited headroom and were claustrophobic, especialy as the two of us are tall
Very nice hotel, price was what attracted me but once there I appreciated the resturant hours, we could eat when we were hungry.
Room was nice and clean - staff understood English and was courteous & attentive - adjoining indoor/outdoor restaurant was convenient - cost was very affordable. Would definitely frequent again Street parking is metered during the day (0900-1900) with 2 hour maximums - free public parking is located quite a distance away but was filled to capacity
The convenience to all the places of interest that we were interested in, ie normandy landings etc
The hotel is in an excellent location, near D-Day tour departure points, The cathedral and the Bayeux Tapestry. Excellent service.
Stayed three nights, very pleased with our holiday vacation at the Hotel Reine Mathilde. The room is very clean and comfortable. The restaurant has good food and excellent breakfast. The hotel staff is very helpful and friendly. I would definately stay here again in the future, it is an excellent hotel, the best one we stayed in during our vacation. None.
Very centrally situated One of the bedrooms had a defective light & the kitchen outlet fan smells came into the room. However, a change of rooms was promptly organised.
Excellent hotel in central Bayeux. Very good staff, good restaurant. Sink in one of the rooms had no plug and the water would only run if you held in a button
24hr restaurant, very near to the parking, tapestry etc Room not as good as it looks on the net, tight. No elevator (3 floors). Wifi did not work.
Location is great. Close to city center and we could see the beautiful chapel from our room. Price was pretty good and the continental breakfast was surprisingly good. No internet service despite what the hotel staff said. It needed to be reset but the staff is not available after 10:00 pm.
The hotel was extremely quaint, maintained very well, and was an ideal location for exploring the several attractions in Bayeux. While Monique, the proprietor, doesn't not speak English, she communicates in a way that is very accessible (and I found this to be excellent French practice :) No complaints.
Beautiful building, modern, clean interior, free wifi
Beautiful hotel in a great location on the edge of town. They were very friendly and the room was great. None
Great location, close to train station and main attractions of Bayeux. Very thin walls - was thankfully next to quiet couple, but wouldn't want to stay near honeymoon suite!
It's ok, nothing special. The house is really nice, but they make you use a side door, and except for breakfast, make it clear you are not welcome in the area.
A perfect place to stay -excellent location - only a few minutes walk from the town centre. Nice art deco/contemporary decor and a lovely smell in the stairways! Could do with tea making facilities
Immaculately clean room in a lovely house. Withing walking distance of Town. Free parking across the street. No tea or coffee making facilities in room.
The surroundings and buildings are beautiful. The staff was nice and the rooms were clean. We stayed in a family room in the converted carriage house or riding stables. The room was two levels which was unique and we felt like we were in a townhouse vs. a hotel room. We would stay here again. We coudln't get the free wifi to work, even after talking to the staff and getting the correct password. The room we stayed in had two levels, lots of stairs and the bathroom set up was awkward. Downstairs is a toilet and sink. Upstairs a shower and two sinks, but no toilet. It wasn't such a big problem that it would stop us from staying here again.
We loved the romance of the whole hotel, it didn't feel like a hotel. The staff were delightful, there was a little dog there (not sure if he belonged to the owners or another guest) but I miss our dog in Australia, so I appreciated being able to rub his belly. We were here for our honeymoon and had hired a car to see the Tapestry and the landing beaches. Also loads of restaurants and cafes in the town. The Swans and the Ducks swimming in the pond and under the little bridge were devine. The bath tub was deep - there is a shower head, but better off just soaking in the tub. Very clean, and nice facilities. We also booked during off season and got a great deal! After booking I found it was the 'top pick' in my Loney Planet guide to France We did comment to each other that we were pleased to have hired a car to make it easy to pop out for dinner, so would suggest others did the same or investigated alternative transport prior to booking
It was very enjoyable
Nice and clean room. The nature around the hotel is beautiful with swans in the lake in front of it. Big bathroom. The room was very cold during the night. Not walking distance to Bayeux
A delightful and peaceful setting with friendly and helpful staff. You feel like you are deep in the countryside but are in fact in walking distance of all Bayeux's attractions and facilities. The spaceous and modern accommodation for a family of 4 was exactly what we wanted. Parking right outside our room. Breakfast seemed a little expensive. The WiFi was free but a very weak signal, at least in the Annex where we were.
the setting we had 3 in a room which was a bit cramped and the extra bed was set up incorrectly and very uncomfortable, extra towels for the 3rd person were not supplied.
very hard to find, they need to illuminate their signs at night since they are off on a small side road
The building and grounds. Not too many guests. No resaurant, so we could not find a good excuse to enjoy the building for the evening. The interior of the room was not so good. More like a B&B in the Yorkshire with a tiny television in a huge room and a 30 year old fridge that rattled and splurted all night until I unplugged it.
We used the room as a base for travelling. It was clean, plenty of hot water and in pretty surroundings. Also it was a lot nearer to the old town and restaurants than anticipated. The breakfast was over priced - cheaper to go into town and eat. The room was basic but ok to use as a base. Over-priced for what it was.
THe location is amazing! 2 mins from centre of Bayeux and perfect spot to explore the D Day landings. THe deal we got from booking.com was almost half then if you went direct with hotel. The seetiing is divine - very countryfied with a lake and swans and ducs and enclosed with tress and manicured lawns. We really enjoyed our stay here. The nest bit was sitting next to the large firplace on sofa drinking delicious red wine!
Price Clean Room size...very small
The hotel was very clean; the rooms are small, but have everything you need. Sheets are crisp, bed is very comfortable. The front desk people were great - gave us good directions to the tourist sites, and spoke excellent English. This is not a fancy hotel, but if you are looking for a clean place to sleep, easy walking distance to Bayeux, at an excellent price, you can't go wrong.
the room was very clean and large. It was nice to have hot tea & instant coffee in the room. The staff were very accomodating and helpful. We were given only 1 bath towel (for 2 people!), but of course, did not realize this until the next morning.
The convenience to the Normandy Day Landing Sites and the easy access to Normandy in general
The rooms were clean and very functional and also surprisingly soundproofed considering they are in blocks. Booking in was fast and efficient. We were very disappointed with the main courses of our dinner and also with the service the staff gave. It felt as though we were in a fast-food restaurant being rushed through everything, not a very common experience in France. The food we felt was not at its best (probably microwaved fast freeze products).
Very close to all venues at Bayeux No need to drive
Warm, clean room with good size bathroom. Easy walk to the city and easy to find. Tea and coffee making in the room. Lovely view from the room to the cathedral.
friendly staff the food!
Good location and really helpful staff. Breakfast really good. Showers great. Staff arranged for rooms at front of Hotel for security of our motorcycles, although the area is secure. Area is really quiet, so a good nights rest guaranteed. Short walk in to town, where there are many restaurants, although some are very busy, so don't leave it too late.Ten minute walk to the Battle of Normandy museum, and British cemetery, these are a must see. Bayeux is a pretty town with lots to see, and is central if you are visiting the D-Day sites, as we were.
Reasonably priced and close to the center of town The walls are very thin so you can hear everything next door
The breakfast was excellent. There was no hot water in the room and the staff seemed unconcerned about it.
in general the staff were friendly and serviceminded We had a problem with the parking of our car. When we introduced this problem to the manager (Morgan), he handled the situation in a very unprofessional manner. A part of my job is to conduct conferences - among other topics in Service Management. During our stay in Hotel De Brunville I got a case story! The manager could easily have turned the situation into a positive experience and have saved us as loyal customers and good ambassadors for the hotel. He did not manage to do so.
Several great things about hotel....1) Modern & Clean Bathroom! 2)Easy to find and close to everything 3)Staff was great at helping us find tours and restaurants. This is not really a complaint but the rooms are not huge. You just need to be ready for this.
Food was very good Directions to the Hotel could have been better.
The situation of the hotel in the heart of the City. The Bathroom was very good. Not enough staff presence at reception to give information. Rooms a bit small.
Breakfast was too expensive
We had two different rooms between two families and neither of us had hot water in the morning for showers. Also, we were charged for parking, however when we arrived they had no room for parking.
very helpful staff, great value for € brekfeast selection, nice and quiet hote,. will be back.
the hotel's position and car parking facilities are excellent for visiting the main sites of interest. The reception was adequate. We were appalled to find the bodged fitting of the toilet seat in our room. The lighting was inadequate for reading in bed. The price was excessive for both the room and the breakfast.
the staff upon arrival, breakfast and departure were all excellent and the location of the hotel for the town centre was superb. twin bedded rooms were as good as a double room with less that 6cm between the beds. Charging 9 Euros for overnight parking and 12 Euros for an average breakfast was expensive.
the town mattresses were lumpy. carpets were mangy.
The helpfulness of the hotel staff. My husband is in a wheelchair most ot the time and they could not have done more to assist us. We were disappointed by the quality of the food. The menu was rather restricted and was unchanged during our visit. One does expect more by way of excellence when it comes to food in France!
nice clean room ,comfortable bed, staff helpfull ,sky news bar was a bit of a joke
Frieindliness and courtesy of staff.
Comfortable bed mattress. Good restaurant. In room kettle & mini fridge (for fresh milk). Would have used pool, if not a cold wet June. Duvet too thick for summer - even with A/C, not enough oblong pillows. Square pillows are uncomfortable.
Reception good. Dinner poor, due to cold food and lack of condiments. Car parking good.
Friendly staff, choice of food
Convenient location with free parking, comfortable bed (important), good restaurant No clock in the room
good clean and comfortable with good access to local historic interests.Helpful friendly staff. Free parking which is always a bonus and good value for money. What I have come to expect from Novotel and accor in general.
Hotel grounds and Location were Fantastic. Standard of Bathroom varied between rooms
Very nice accommodations and staff. Beautiful property and location.
The only bad point was that I had no hot water for a shower in the morning.
Wonderful atmospheric villa. Great balance between antique-filled rooms with modern comforts. Quiet, yet perfectly located.
We had a large beautifully appointed room that opened on to lovely gardens and a bathroom with plenty of space. The guesthouse was extremely charming as was our host Anthony who went out of his way to make us feel very welcome and assist us in anyway that he could. The attention to detail in Le Tardif was second to none and the fact that it is so conveniently located makes it outstanding..
I really liked the "at home" feel of it, particularly since my "home" was a lovely 18th century mansion! It was in a great location for my Normandy tour. Anthony is a great host and speaks excellent English. Don't know if the one other review concerning this hotel reflects mine since I cannot view it, but I marked "yes" since I assume it's got to be a good review given my experience!
The elegance of the accommodation. the host's friendliness and desire to be helpful and the fantastic position of the hotel in Bayeux. It might have been nice if we could have made a hot drink in our room.
The location was excellent for the centre of Bayeux. The rooms are gorgeous, very romantic setting. We'll be going again.
The host and the building No
Breakfast was delicious...ordered direct from a local bakery. Croissants and bagettes...awesome! Service was fair. Staff seemed a little bit snobbish and was not helpful when we realized we had left something in our room a couple hours after checkout.
Comfortable ,clean, well appointed room in a great older mansion with a most interesting history. Host Anthony is friendly and attentive. The Guesthouse is centrally located..an easy 10 minute walk from the Bayeux train station, many excellent restaurants within 5 minute walk, magnificent 10th century cathedral across the street. I recommend without reservation.
Very quaint and comfortable. Good location to city sights but not so close as to be busy
Hotel staff were very helpful.
We visited the Normandy beaches and stayed at Le Bayeux two nights. The staff was very accommodating and the breakfast was wonderful. I would highly recommend people visiting this beautiful town and region, staying at the Le Bayeux.
We arrived a day early and we were able to stay for that night as well in the same room. Very friendly staff and good value for money. Room was huge - reminded me some what of a school dormitory! Bathroom had a strange odour.
very friendly staff, spacous, great view
Loved the location near the D-day beaches; very comfortable beds Hard pillows gave me a headache.
Perfectly placed, near the town centre, but also in a quiet location with no disturbance at all during the night. The owners are fantastic and go out of their way to make you feel welcome at all times. Their suggestion for a resturant to enjoy dinner was outstanding and less than a 5 min walk from the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and would return again myself if the opportunity arose. Also, car parking was the most secure arrangement I have ever encountered, 100% safe.
The location was central to the attractions of Bayeux -- the Cathedral, the Bayeux Tapestry, the restaurants. Our family room, #1, was adjacent to the lobby and very noisy as guests came and went.
The woman running the hotel was very lovely, but spoke NO english, which made it a bit difficult, but with hand gestures and a lot of nods she made us dinner reservations at a great restaurant. It was very convienient to where we were going. The continental breakfast was fantastic and although it typically starts at 8am, she had it ready for us at 7:30 because we had an early departure; very much appreciated! Our bathtub/shower did not have a shower curtain?!
Location was outstanding. Easy walking distance to many great restaurants and beautiful sites. Cerainly extremely appreciative of the D-Day Sacrifices and the hotel staff was incredible. My rooms Shower stall was a little tight for me. I am 6' 2" - 210
Centrallocation Arrival/check in chaotic, 30 mins +. Shower tray drain inadequate, standing in dirty water. Diluted orange cordial at breakfast. Plastic beakers never changed. Parking cost should be shown.
Not much The hotel staff was very unhelpful, and gave me wrong directions to a car rental place resulting in my getting lost.
It was comfortable. The diinner at Restaurant Les 4 Saisons was good value for money
size of the room toilet seat broken, mildew and mold in the bathtub
Nice stone building. Easy access to D-day beaches, restaurants, tourist sites. 40 mins form Caen ferry port Noisy
Service and attention to detail The car parking charge was an unnecessary additional expense, guests should not be levied with such a charge when staying for more than one night!
Meal at the restaurant was very good
Location.... you should put a computer in your lobby area so that guests can go online...most people on vacaton do not carry their computer with them
Location was convenient to everything we wanted to see and do in Bayeux. Unfortunately, Hertz rental car at Total gas station required a cab ride to get to. Might be worth the effort to find another car rental place closer in town. Restaurant was o.k., nothing special and pricey. We were able to get the same continental breakfast down by the cathedral for less than half the cost. Room was spacious, bed was comfortable. Bathroom, although spacious, didn't work well. There was no place to put personal items.
Easy check in, very clean
close to wwII sites.
Ease of free car parking. Convenient to local area. Frequently the electronic key failed to open hotel door and/or the room door which in turn created unnecessary stress when reception wasn't manned.
The price, location and the hotel being very clean, also being able to have a breakfast in the hotel is a plus.
Room was clean and tidy. No Tea or Coffee making facilities in room. Bathroom was small and diificult to use shower.
As above! Breakfast is very simulary. There at least should be some cheese, baccon and/or ham or an egg. Every morning, there was only some marmalade or honey. It's even better to pay a little bit more, than this! The evening meals in are not from a high quality! Next time we still want to stay in this hotel, but we're gonna have breakfast and have our meal somewere else.
The staff was very helpful and the location worked very well for us. It was a great value and I would recommend it to others. Nothing
Quiet location - short walk to excellent restaurant Faulty toilet was not dealt with sympathetically
very clean, huge bathroom, good restaurant
Very pleasant, friendly staff. Room was adequate and very clean. Good central location with plenty of restaurants nearby. No.
The only good option in the city, the staff and the cleanness. The bar right next to the hotel unleashes every weekend (Friday and Saturday) a bunch of totally drunk people who stay under your window shouting until 4AM.
good view with historic site
Easy access by car from anywhere in Normandie Restaurant was below par
Very friendly front desk staff! They knew English well enough to help us with our stumbling French!!
It was very warm in the hotel, and opening the window was not an option due to the very heavy streetnoise.
Nice view at the river and castle. In the center of town. So hot! No airco for such a hotel is unacceptable for me. The room was not the cleanest (holes in the wall/dirty windows/..).
The hotel was very central - being close to the train station and near to a few bars/restaurants. Our room was at the back of the premises overlooking the station car park which appears to be a meeting place for the local teenagers until the early hours of the morning.
Staff was friendly and accomodating, and the room was clean. Restaurant on site and easy to walk around town without having an auto. The rooms and beds are small.
The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel is ideally located for exploring central Normandie by car, and the town of Bayeux on foot. Hotel is tired and not quite up to scratch for the price. "free wi-fi internet", but only in small area by reception desk, does not reach bedrooms. tv is billed as having 15 channels, but only 4 in my room. Very limited supply of hot water. Not enough for a shower. As long as you're used to the quirks of small French hotels it's ok. Not sure what North Americans visiting for the first time would think.
location, history of the hotel for the price, a breakfast should be included. nice bar area but no one at the bar to serve you.
Beautiful building in a pleasant courtyard setting. The location is excellent for visiting the town with on site parking. Good buffet breakfast. The hotel is faded and desperately requires modernisation. A single, discoloured, plastic, plant in each window box defines the standard. The display of celebrities, who have stayed in the past, demonstrates the fall from grace.
The evening meal was very expensive and although it was O.k it did not warrant the price No lift this should be pointed out at time of booking, for the elderly it is impossible to get to rooms on the third floor
Great hotel with a sense of history. Great service, great location, very clean rooms, great service.
Sophie at reception was welcoming and personable. During our stay, the bar was unavailable due to private parties. This was disappointing as the bar with its large fireplace and frames photos of past celebrities lends this public area considerable charm and ambiance. Also, the breakfast buffet was really just a continenetal breakfast. The egg boiler did not work. The menu in general needs updating.
The hotel represented absolutely superb value for money - The staff were pleasant, the rooms were immaculately clean with mini-bars, LCD TVs and the most comfortable bed I've found in a hotel in a long time (and I travel all over the world on business). The bathroom decor was a little dated but more than compensated for by the cleanliness and the quality of the shower. The bar which was bedecked with signed photos of everyone from Prince Charles, Eisenhower, Montgomery and Stirling Moss to Tom Hanks, Lauren Bacall, John Wayne and Spencer Tracey who all stayed at the hotel was excellent and the restaurant was also very, very nice with extremely good, attentive service, akin to a quality London or Parisien restaurant. I cannot fault the hotel at all.
We enjoyed the wonderful experience of the hotel and great food....So close to the battle fields.....
The staff was wonderful. Friendly and helpful. The room was a good size, cleans and tastefully decorated. The bathroom was also a good size.
Dining room very good No lift and limited baggage assistance
The people who work there are so nice. It is in a very quiet location kind of on the edge of town. Not really - the rooms are small, but we just needed the room for sleeping and bathing since we were there to see the sights.
Very nice breakfast The room was very cramped, the heater was broken. The bathroom was tiny. The location is awful, you cannot walk to Bayeux central in 5 minutes and the hotel is very isolated. When we arrived it took us 30 minutes to find staff so we could check in.
Room not secured at all, and directions to location poor. Lighting of area is scarce.
The beds and cleanliness of the hotel were fantastic! And the fact that the rooms was soundproofed made a huge difference to my night's sleep. Wifi in the room was also great. Really convenient if youre looking for a quality hotel for an overnight stop on a roadtrip. Their breakfast wasn't amazing but still, if you're in a hurry to get back on the road, was decent to keep you full for most of the day.
The hotel was in the perfect central location for exploring D-Day sites and easy to find right off the motorway. You have to drive a couple miles into Bayeux to get to restaurants, but not a big issue. The value for money is fantastic. I thought it was great that there is a bed for children at no extra cost, and my kid loved the bunk bed setup. The rooms are very clean, modern, quiet, and the staff are friendly and speak very good English. The only thing I could find that I didn't like was that the mattress was a bit firm for my taste, but that's just a personal preference.
Cleanliness of hotel was fantastic. Very comfortable with good service. Would definately use ETap in future. No dislikes.
as above went with my son
Staff very friendly, good breakfast, very clean, easy to find from main road.
The fact that it was between both Arromanches beach, Hill 112 and war cemeteries which we wanted to visit. Staff very helpful and friendly and also helped us find a vet before we arrived so that we could get the dogs wormed and ticked before our return ferry crossing. hotel cleanliness immaculate and still allowed dogs to stay in our room. No problems allowing us to change to a ground floor room which suited the dogs better so that they didn't need to use the lift. the quality of the evening food very basic and crepes very bland but service and cleanliness good.
The staff were welcoming, professional, very friendly. Rooms clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good. Microwave food offered outside breakfast was not good.
Cost and handy location
I found the hotel to be excellent value for money. Totally functional and spotlessly clean. I thought the use of space was fantastic and it had all mod cons. I think this type of hotel would go very well in England and it should be the way forward in buget design hotels.
Etap is basic 'motel' accomodation. Staff at Bayeux were friendly and helpful at all times. room is sparce but functional. Comfortable bedding, daily clean towels, and very clean. Breakfast if taken is basic continental fare, but no real limit to quantity available. Hotel seems constantly busy with travellers but quiete at night and in a quiete location, but easily found near a major trunk road junction. 10 min. drive from Bayeux, a little too far to walk. One criticism, only relevant if needing to order food in daytime or evening. The 'menu' is a heat and serve type, very limited and sad to say, not of a particularly good standard. Manageable if no other options, but the most basic cafe or bar would be a better choice.
The room was clean, although it had no alarm clock, radio or television which is pretty common in Europe. The room did have free wi-fi. The b&b is walking distance to everything you need in town. You must be able to climb steep stairs as this is the only access to the rooms!!! If you are going to tour Normandy wwii sites, this may not be the place for you. The English speaking son (40ish), who runs the place, has never visited any of the wwii sites, including any cemetery. He said he "doesn't like war," so won't visit the sites. It seems a shame that so many thousands of men died to provide him with freedom and he can't take the time to visit them even once. I'm sure he's glad the Allies didn't say "we don't like war, so we won't be coming to liberate you, so sorry." If you are interested in history, then find a hotel that is run by someone who can at least discuss history and the sites with you, this isn't it. Also, he sat with us at each breakfast and watched us eat, but didn't eat or drink anything himself. So as not to be rude, we included him in the conversation, but it felt very awkward. I've never had that happen at any other b&b at which I've stayed.
good location during long journey back to the UK, very helpful staff
The hotel is very close to all the attractions within Angers - a couple of blocks from the Cathedral and a few more from the Castle. It is well appointed and the staff were friedly and helpful. Bed was comfortable and breakfast was excellent. Rooms are small - even though we had booked a superior rom it was cramped
The food was excellent and good value for money The bedroom was a bit spartan but reasonably priced so we can't complain
The price was good. The rooms are tiny particularly the bathroom. You couldn't open the bathroom door because the bed was in the way. There was also hair in the bathroom. The bathroom is like taking a shower in a boat.
I booked the hotel as it said on your website, good area to visit the D Day beaches, as in it is located near the d day beaches, i dont consider 30kilometres 'nearby'. This is false advertising and this was not satisfactory at all. It is a good hotel if you want to visit villiers bocage or Falaise but its a long drive of over 50minutes (country roads also) to the D Day beaches. You should amend the details of this hotel. The room was extremely cramped and the hotel did not offer packed lunches to my knowledge.
Staff very pleasant, Bar meals and hotel meals very good. Clean rooms. Double beds uncomfortable - Kept rolling into middle. Sewer smell from toilet at times.
Room and bathroom extremely clean. Parking possibility on site without additional charge. Quality/price ratio is excellent.
The hotel was quiet, clean and the staff were helpful and friendly. The best thing was the food in the restaurant, which was excellent and good value.
The restaurant was very good value with a large selection of food and menus of allprices.
Room very clean, staff helpful and friendly. Set in quiet area, good to search Normandy coastline, good links to main roads. While the rooms, restaurant and main aspects of the hotel were very clean, the bar area of the hotel (and also the area that breakfast was served) was not up to the same level of cleanliness. Cockroach traps in the bar and lots of flies.
