10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is fabulous especially the view from the rear of the chateau which is superb . A lovely large room With high ceilings and a great bathroom . A friendly reception from Gabrielle who took time out from her 23 Arabian horses to give us a tour of most of the guests part of the chateau and tell us some of the history . They have done a great job making this beautiful place welcoming for guests . We loved our stay here and will come again !
Cons: It was not very warm for the time of year and we could not regulate the heat in our room so after sunset it was too cold for us . The bed was very large & comfortable but the bedsheet were made of coarse cotton and rough on the skin , so we used the softer duvet cover as an under sheet.. then we had a good nights sleep !
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We arrived very late on a Friday night and Gabrielle was extremely accommodating and welcoming. She greeted us upon arrival, showed us our room, and got us settled in quickly. A huge detail as we were coming in from 32 straight hours of planes, trains, and automobiles. We spent some time walking the grounds which were beautiful. The horse stables are very nice and the horses were wonderful. We only had a short stay, but we felt very comfortable and received excellent treatment from everyone there.
Cons: It rained, can’t control the weather though. Oh well. Still pretty anyway.
6.8 Good
Pros: Great pool - nice view - quiet. Shower was strong and hot.
Cons: Nothing major only small things - bottles of water would be nice given no shops restaurants nearby. Breakfast is self service and more than adequate with fresh bread, but generally look for more.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed two nights for a wedding. The house has a lot of charm and is well situated in Chalais - it took not much more than an hour to drive there from Bordeaux airport. Behind, on a hill stands the impressive chateau which looks out over the town - it's a nice (although steep) walk up to the chateau and then down onto the main street. The hosts were very welcoming and provided everything we needed, including a delicious buffet breakfast and really good coffee.

Pros: The feel of the property Proximity of the house to town The warm welcome from the owners Good breakfast
7.5 Good
Pros: The location is a bit in the middle of nowhere, really. The ride from Bordeaux was very nice, though. The village has a couple of restaurants; we went to Le Bonne Hemeur; really authentic French where a was able to practice my French. Can't do that at le Fagnard, since the owners are English. ;-)
Cons: * It's a bit cold in the breakfast room. * The booking.com reply mail doesn't give the hotel's coordinates. This is a bit tricky because there are more villages called Chalais. We were just lucky, I guess

Would recommend Hôtel Restaurant La Braisiere for a stay or just a meal if you are in the area.
