Great, value for money 1 bedroom apartments located with direct access to the beach (no road in between). The kitchen and cupboards were new and there was one double bed in the bedroom and two singlesofa beds in the living room- for 80 euros a night was a bargain and when travelling with small children we prefer to sleep in apartment style accomodation than get squashed in a fancy hotel room. The rooms and balcony were a good size. Although we've never before used a pool in hotels with our children we really enjoyed this one as it seemed new, generous size, well designed, very clean and was a big hit with the children as well as they had inflatable toys and the kiddie pool was the perfect depth for our 4 and 2.5 year old to paddle safely in Towels were not refreshed during our 4 day stay although the staff were very helpful and I'm sure they would have obliged if we had asked for it. Also, the aircon in the living room did not really work and TV reception was very poor though we did not mind as we weren't there to watch TV. Area of town the hotel is located in is very touristy with british and german style pubs, but very close to Rethymno and the hotel itself is tucked away in an alley closer to the beach than the main road so you don't get any of the noise other hotels would get in the area.
Very nice hotel for family vacation, right on the beach, close to everything. Hotel stuff is very friendly and always willing to help, decent breakfast, clean rooms. Excellent, large swimming pool. Will recommend this hotel to my friends and come back if ever in Greece again.
We stayed for 5 days during September 2010. The room was clean and comfortable, and was cleaned every day. The pool was also clean and fun to swim. The beach is 2 minutes walking. The main street, including many supermarkets and local restaurants, is 2 minutes away. Although everything was so close, the hotel was very quiet and the atmosphere was relaxing. There is lots of parking. The stuff was very polite. We enjoyed staying at the Marinos. If I had to choose again, I would consider staying there again. Some small disadvantages that might matter to one more than to the other: The air condition works only during the night (midnight to 8 AM) and the afternoon (2 PM - 8 PM). On some days it was uncomfortable sleeping before midnight (when the humidity was high). Also, on some occasions we ran out of hot water on the shower (before 8 AM or after 10 AM). This probably happened since the water heater system is turned on a certain hour and is also central (same principle as the air condition). Safe deposit costs 2 euro per day. You get only one key for the room which also makes the electricity work. So if one goes out with the key, the others stay without electricity (not including the refrigerator).
excellent location just on the beach with no road in between, nice garden and swimming pool, excellent tavern, fair service: I will suggest it to all my friends , especially with kids.Platanes itself offer a nice promenade wit shops and markets and night life. central air conditioning is operated in the afternoon and during the night (it works well) but from 7pm until almost midnight the room becomes pretty hot: prolonged air conditiong operating time would be beneficial.
Fantastic location with a HUGE swimming pool while located on the beach. Very friendly, welcoming family staff. Good quality, reasonably priced restaurant between the pool and beach with fantastic views of the sea and mountains. Large menu including some good Greek specialties-we hosted family to dine with us there twice and they were quite pleased. Best value on Crete. Pool use ends at sundown. A ceiling fan would be a great addition to keep the room comfortable without running air conditioning.
Good points for this hotel, staff, clean, location, fantastic resturant. good size pool and surrounds. quiet location. Only problem with hotel is the shower curtains used in the bathrooms
The location sea side, the swimming pool.Nice staff (one family) The air conditionning needs to be changed. (Very old)
pool was big, nice natural shaded garden, located on the beach, beach taverna food was good. Balcony was facing an ivy covered wall 20 m away therefore very little daylight and no view . Poor shower facilities. Very little interaction from hotel management.
The hotel is well located along the beach, in a very touristic area. I stayed at the Eva Bay for 4 nights, essentially over the week end. The rooms are essentially clean but a bit humid, there are mosquitoes. At week ends the bar of the hotel is very loud and it was almost impossible to sleep until 3am. Many people wanted to change their room the next morning. If you go there, take products against mosquitoes and ear plugs.
probably the entertainment for the kids and the swimming pool near the boungalo food is poor, there are no a lot of choices, very limited. Rooms are not cleaned every date. very nosy at night, impossible to sleap with open window!!!!
the staff was very polite and helpfull in everything we asked and needed i think the price was too high for the level of the room
The Head waiter at the Beach Taverna Restaurant was extremely kind and friendly. Infinity Pool was fantastic. Drinks too expensive. Breakfast too chaotic. Too many people for small serving space. Hotel has 800 people capacity. Entertainment place has por viability. No Hotel buses to Hotel. Taxi is $95 Euro to Main airport.Bungalowrooms were not bungalows put attached to hotel corridor.
the buffet was not too good.
When the receptionist gives you the key and tells you that you room is upstairs, this says all about the hotel. The beatiful pictures of the room on it's homepage was made by a pro. The room we got was in a diffeent world. We had to beg the lady to change our room next day, which she thanfully did. Breakfast in the morning- coffee was just about warm, all food was made 1-3 days beforehand. The swimming pool had not been cleaned for over a month; something like a bird dead at the bottom. The feathers, leaves, insects were floating on the surface and green fungus on the edges. No sign of Closed Swimming Pool for the guest. We felt like the host was purposely trying to make us sick.
Excellent location of the hotel (30m from the beach). The room was clean, daily equipped, fast and polite housekeeping response. The food (breakfast and dinner) was very good. Excellent service. All the staff was welcoming, polite and helpful. Congratulations to the General manager, Mrs. Mary Polychronopoulou, for making us feel welcome. We would definitely recommend this hotel to the people we know, and we would like to visit it again.
nice price, excellent location (near to a blue flag beach), the staff was very kind, clean rooms, comfortable beds. Quiet location but still near to the centre of Platanes and only a few km's away from Rethymno. our credit card was found to be charged by the hotel prior to arrival.
very good breakfast and dinner-different course, big choice of varieties, close to the beach insects in the bathroom
Good value for the money. Really good and varied breakfast - except for the coffee, but Nescafe is standard, so this was to expect. Very good cleaning standard (hint: tip the staff in advance). Pool area clean and of high standard. Add useful addresses/telephone number for doctor, pharmacy and other emergency numbers to the hotel welcome brochure in the room/studio, as the reception service sometimes only worked for a few hours during the day - hopefully because it was late season. And even if it is late season: do not be that surprised that guests which have booked months in advance actually do arrive. The welcoming procedure is horrible.
Location and one of the girls at the reception, she was nice and extremely helpful. Breakfast wasn't too bad and for the price we paid was good overall The breakfast basket was a joke, sandwich and orange, no drink at all. Found a few baby cockroaches in my room
very large rooms, plenty of space / good swimming pool facilities / good breakfast the bath-room, although well furbished, was somewhat bad mantained. Water pressure was defficient.
The room was very nice, and the pool seemed to be very popular, though we didn't actually swim in it. The location is a bit far from Rethymnon, which is fine if that's what you're looking for. It is about 7 km to the port. We rented a car and drove, so it was a bit difficult to find, as there were no signs indicating where the small town was. Thankfully, the locals were friendly and pointed us in the right direction.
