10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were very helpful and friendly. We only spent one night there but would happily have stayed longer. The croissants were the best we had throughout our 10 day trip through France. We had no real need for wifi so cannot comment fairly but there was no instant connection as far as I could tell. I would recommend this place unreservedly.
Cons: It's quitehard to find in the dark so would suggest visitors aim to arrive before dark.
La Grange - Saint-Chartier - Restaurant

9.4 Excellent (199 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Nohant-Vic, La Grange is in a rural location, a 2-minute drive from George Sand's House and 8 minutes from George Sand and the Black Valley Museum. Free self parking is available onsite.
7.0 Good
Pros: It was lovely to access the garden and be outside. The breakfast was excellent with home made preserves, gateaux with home grown fruits. Plenty of coffee or tea and excellent breads too. Christine was very accommodating in that she provided us with ice and glasses for Pastis which we had with us. The room was very clean and pleasant.
Cons: The kettle in the room was a challenge and could probably be updated. There was limited tea and coffee in the room and although we were welcomed with a cuppa in the dining room, it wasn't clear if we could help ourselves to supplies. This may be due to the fact that we speak very little French (mainly Spanish) and were not sure how to ask. Be aware of the very narrow benches at the dining table. My husband found himself on the floor having missed it!! It was hilarious once he was over the shock and the other guests managed a chuckle too. Fortunately it wasn't a nasty accident. The main issue for us was the staircase that went up through our room. Although it was enclosed it needed a lot more insulation. The guests upstairs were very noisy and that did not help our stay.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a most enjoyable stay here. Our host, Christine, was unfailingly charming, friendly and helpful, always ready to have a conversation with her guests while at the same time allowing them their space and privacy. The accommodation is ideally situated in a tranquil, village setting, yet very close to many tourist attractions such as the house of George Sand and the Jacques Tati museum. The house, room and bathroom were immaculately presented and also provided a common seating and dining area where guests could relax while they enjoyed a delicious breakfast that catered for all tastes. It should be noted that guests should be prepared to drive rather than walk to find local restaurants, but there is an excellent boulangerie just over the road where you can buy your picnic lunch. The garden at this accommodation is quite magnificent and I recommend allowing yourself time to enjoy it. We would have loved to stay at this excellent B&B for far longer. Thank you so much, Christine.
Cons: Nothing at all

Pros: The host, Christine and his husband were very friendly and helpful. The room has a special atmosphere. Very lovely, clean, well equipped. Beautiful garden( 1 hectare) and beautiful flowers around the house. Small waterfall. Very ideal. You can find a very nice surround. The church other side of the road has a fresco from the XII. century. The house of George Sand is also very close. You can find nice restaurants around. Real life of countryside. Breakfast was excellent. Homemade cakes and breads. Wonderful. If you would like to join to the real french country side you should stop here.

Pros: Very friendly and helpful owners who work very hard front of house. They both spoke excellent English and were very welcoming. Lovely continental breakfast, hot drinks and fruit juice, fresh bread basket with croissants, pain au chocolat and french bread. Jams, fruit and yoghurt too. Meat and cheese also available. Room and bathroom was spotlessly clean with fresh towels daily. Superior room was modern and comfy. Small car park to rear of hotel but plenty of parking on the street outside too. Market day in Boussac is a Thursday, very busy but a definite attraction. So many stalls and the village centre is buzzing.
Cons: Would of liked the hotel bar and restaurant to be open more, especially on a Sunday.

Pros: The room was beautifully decorated - Doreen is a very talented artist. The food was delicious, all of the courses included locally sourced ingredients. It doesn't get much better than lamb from the farm up the road and vegetables from the garden. All superbly cooked by Doreen and Geoff. We also really enjoyed Doreen and Geoff's company at breakfast and dinner, they were really good fun and clearly love what they do. Thank you Doreen and Geoff for making us feel so welcome and we hope to see you again in the not too distant future.

Pros: Delicious breakfasts, served in an amazing painted trompe-l'oeil replica of Monet's kitchen at Giverny! The kind, helpful and attentive owner, Chrystèle, who refilled our bottles with chilled water each morning and even supplied a frozen one to keep the others cold. The fact that we could return late at night without disturbing anyone else. The parking: supervised by the adjoining Gendarmerie! The market and the town, with an amazing, huge old wine-press in the museum/church.

Pros: The suite we had was nicely decorated with a lovely bathroom and having a fridge was very useful .The beds were comfortable and the heating was easy to operate. It would have been nice to have tea or coffee in the room as there were the appliances needed. 8.0 Excellent
Pros: An excellent place for a night halt.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Delightfully quiet rural location and a very welcoming host. Family room was clean and tidy and perfect for an overnight stop (and longer I'd imagine). We arrived too late to use the pool but there is a restaurant in a village a couple of miles away that served good foor and was family friendly. Breakfast was a treat - homemade croissants, bread and jams - and with an added bonus of the host's horse poking its head in the kitchen window for its own breakfast!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: A friendly welcome. Room was spacious and comfortable. Surrounded by beautiful countryside. Good plentiful breakfast.
7.5 Good
Pros: The hosts were very friendly. The room was good, and the breakfast was pleasant. I liked the old house and the farm animals and birds.
Cons: We live on a farm ourselves, so I know what looking after one requires. We were put off by the ramshackle fencing and shabby furniture in the yard when we arrived. They need to put some effort and money into the grounds to bring this lovely old place up to scratch. Also, they should put some thought into the parking; it’s too random, especially if you arrive late in the day. It was very dark in the yard when we came back from our dinner out, so we had to use our iPhones to pick our way to the door. Then a light came on automatically.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners dog is a friendly, happy dog. Breakfast was great, with homemade preserves. The strawberry jam was exceptional.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything: the friendliness of the host, Philippe; the location; the breakfast; the other guests; the pool; the animals. Perfect for us:)
Cons: The fact we had to leave.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Good for a one or two night stay, the breakfast was good. Room faced a fairly busy road so had to keep the windows closed but that said I'd stay again if passing the area.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Comfy bed. Good location for travelling. Good air conditioning. Quiet room. Good shower.
Cons: Expensive for what was offered. Room was small and was at least 25% more than similar rooms experienced elsewhere in France. Wine and food were expensive. Tired bathroom. Poor shower screen. No air conditioning in the dining room. Reception smelt musty!
3.3 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing
Cons: Not enough parking , leaking shower, small room , window looking into yard & kitchen, kitchen staff noisy early in the morning and woke us.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Very handy to reach Nohant for the music.
Cons: The breakfast was very limited, we had to ask for some clean plates. The staff were looking like they wanted to clear up and get away.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast on offer was terrinble. We cancelled pur breakfast order.
Cons: The Shower system is terrible. There should be a proper fixed shower head, the curtain leaked water all over the floor.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Easy to find. Lovely outside space but across the road. Very friendly staff. Excellent breakfast buffet
Cons: Food a little pricey and very rich. Also wine a bit pricey
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is in a smallish village, on quite a busy road with a lot of lorry traffic (but noise wasn't a problem). There is an annex across the road from the main building. There is a small garage available for motorcycles and bicycles. There is plenty of parking. The room was quite basic, but clean and comfortable. The garden outside was very pleasant. The restaurant was very good and popular. We really enjoyed the food. The staff were very friendly and helpful.
Cons: There are pros & cons to being in the annex. A nice quiet location with a garden, but the need to cross a busy road for the main hotel (and restaurant). Probably not so good in poor weather.

7.5 Good
Pros: Grand location, wonderful view. The room was very nice, but apparently not all rooms are in that good condition...
Cons: The staff hardly speaks any language beside French.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful view from the room. Lovely outdoor pool and spa. Room was spacious with superking bed. Very quiet and got a good sleep. Great value as breakfast was included and was delicious.
Cons: No restaurants within walking distance. Hotel restaurant had bad reviews so we drove to la chatre which is 10k away.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The rooms are very comfortable and the view is stunning
Cons: The choice and the service in the restaurant is third rate. Cod, chicken or a vegetable wok ( which incidentally turned out to be a common or garden dish) do not consist an acceptable choice for the price demanded. The restaurant was not very busy but the staff were completely inattentive. The receptionist the following morning asked about our stay and when we outlined our disappointment about the restaurant had absolutely nothing further to say.
9.5 Excellent

The restaurant is well located with a very nice view but the service is VERY BAD (they do not serve the wine) and they don't even know the origin of meat they are serving ! They served us a pineapple for dessert with very small piece of pineapple. THIS IS A SHAME !!!!
