Very friendly staff clean rooms perfect location
Not updated but for price was great
A good clean room near the Red Line so we could take in a Cubs' game. That was our only expectation and it was met. If you're looking for amenities and a room you'll be spending a lot of time in, this isn't it. I had low expectations going in and they were exceeded.
It's an old building that they've tried to keep updated. The windows are single pane and allow a lot of sound in. We didn't mind it. Our room was on the 11th floor overlooking the L and it ran constantly. It was white noise and part of the big city sound for us. I would stay there again.
Small eooms and short amount of services l, but slightly cheaper than neighboeing properties. Stay felt short for what I paid for.
Ditto plus tjey had no free breakfast. What a rip.
I liked the size of the room, the concierge services, & the cleanliness of the hotel.
I didn't like the parking company that was available, they were very rude.
The location, one block away from the red line and two blocks away from the Brown, Pink, Orange, and Purple lines. We took the subway/trains (or walked) everywhere and bought the 3 day pass, cheaper that way than taxi rides everywhere. Very close to Buckingham Fountain and Millennium Park, and Michigan Ave. Lots of places to eat near by. The hotel also has a decent Thai restaurant attached to it. Every major attraction is not more than 5 miles from the hotel. The staff is very friendly and helpful in finding what you're looking for! They also provide a luggage storage service for you, free of charge! This was helpful for us as our flight arrived at 7:30 am and check-in wasn't until 3 pm! Same service available upon checking-out.
The musty smell. Our room was on the 9th floor, near the elevators, the hallway smelled terrible as did the room. Our shower was not cleaned, it had dirt/sand sitting in the tub and along the back ledge where the water spout is. The A/C was off when we entered our room causing it to be very warm and musty (we went at the end of July, so it was hot outside). There was no hair-dryer, however, I called the front desk and they brought me one. No counter space in the bathrooms, in fact, we had something fall into the toilet off the tiny shelf in there. There was hair all over the sheets. The beds and pillows were very uncomfortable. No breakfast, pool, refrigerator, or other amenities. The trains were noisy, being right outside the windows of the hotel, however, I think the sound on the 9th floor was not was bad as it could have been on lower levels. I also sleep with earplugs, so it was not that bad for me, my husband did, however, complain a bit about the noise. Honestly, I don't think this hotel is worth more than $60/70 per night. The location is all it has going for it!
aside from the mediocre to poor general look and low end facilities/amenities (including space in the bathroom, the shower facility, the water pressure and on and on)...nothing compares with the fact that basically right outside my window: the CTA loop trains start running around 4:30AM with no sound deadening in the room construction began on a street project at 5AM with backhoes and other noisy equipment. The sign in the lobby stated that it wouldn't start for many hours later I have a video of all of this going on outside my window ***Not worth any amt of $ !!!
Clean room. Good location. Unobtrusive but helpful staff. Not as economically as advertised. Room rate only marginally cheaper than nearby Hilton and similar chains. Seems the rates might have increased recently.
Run down appearance; especially room corridors. TV aspect ratio stretched; making everyone look even fatter than they actually were. Only one of two lifts would stop at Level 7 (my room on Level 7). Frustrating because the 'wrong' lift kept coming first. Resorted to sending it on a phantom mission to a floor which worked so the functional lift was available to me.
If you're planning to go to Chicago and be out and about- this hotel is perfect! 100 ft off Michigan Ave, a 2 minute walk from busses/trains and a maximum of 15 minute ride to almost any of the major attractions. The front desk staff and concierge staff were very helpful and kind- offered suggestions of how to make the most efficient use of time to see the most we could during our short stay. Though there were no "luxury amenities" (we werent expecting any!) our room was clean and bright with a comfortable bed, immaculate bathroom (good water pressure and no shortage of hot water! ) and great view of city life. The elevators ran quickly and were clean. The spotless and updated lobby connects to a great breakfast/lunch cafe and also to a Thai restaurant that looked like it had a bar (which was of no use to me traveling solo with a child).
The only thing that wasn't great was the carpet in our room needed some attention-but it seems like they are upgrading/updating lots around the hotel so I assume this is on the list (everything can't be done in a day!) . I've noticed many people commenting on the cosmetics of Travelodge DT Chicago and in general, the main areas seem all done. The cosmetics of the hall on our floor were quite dated, but since I wasn't planning on hanging out in the hallway, this did not bug me one bit.
The location was good (right next to a subway line) Most of the staff is accomodating Relative to other hotels, it's cheap
Very old, needs rennovations stat Stains Smells weird Walls are sooo thin You get what you pay for, but it's a very old hotel
Hotel was in a great area. Staff was friendly and helpful. Areas and room were clean and well taken care of.
The rooms and decor were a bit dated; but it looks they are slowly updating overall appearance of the hotel.
The hotel is situated right in the heart of downtown close to bars, restaurants and college campuses. From its location your just a $10 cab ride to all the major attractions of Chicago.
Rooms aren't spectacular and don't come with microwaves or fridges but they are clean and the beds were above average for the price. The top floors aren't as renovated as the lower levels so are room had a window AC which blocked the view (wasn't a good view anyways) and was extremely loud but that helped drown out the noise from the street during the morning hours.
The location and the price.
The bed bugs.
Excellent location, walkable to food and all the major tourist sites. Very friendly staff. May be able to find a deal at some of the other historic hotels around, but a solid bet if you are visiting to be in the city instead of your room.
Pretty basic room, not much in the way of luxury. I thought the mattress was a little stiff, and you can hear the L from outside, neither of which were significant enough to keep me from considering here again next time in Chicago.
The hotel is old but well maintained. Has radiator heat! Price is very good if looking for a place to sleep. Was clean and location was near attractions I wanted to visit. The staff was very easy to interact with and pleasant. I would stay here again.
I was on the third floor. The view from our window was to the back of a very tall brick building. But hey, that gave us privacy.
location was amazing
Every time I had to interact with the staff, they were warm and friendly. The lobby was inviting, and overall I apprecuated the level of service.
The bed was surprisingly short, I had to get my key redone everyday I was there, and it was sometimes a challenge to get housekeeping to clean the room.
Incredibly slow elevators. This alone would prevent me from staying there again.
Good location and its value for money
The hotel is close to CTA railway and can be very noisy when the trains pass every 10 mins or so...
Stayed here for the Chicago Marathon. You can't get a better location for the race! It is less than 1 block from the park where the start/finish is located! I stayed here with my wife and 2 children. Yes...the building is old (historic?). Yes...the rooms are small. Yes...the elevators are slow. However, I paid 1/3rd of the price of the Hilton that's 1 block away! I'd rather spend my money in the city than on a hotel room.
If you are looking for a luxury hotel, stay at the Hilton that's a block away. If you are looking for a clean room at a great price in an even better location...stay here!
The hotel rooms were not as pictured. There was mold in the Windows and a TWO inch gap between the door and the floor. The beds were uneven. There were stains on the carpet and both chairs in the room. The elevator that took us to our room on the NINTH floor was very old and slow. It took at least 45 seconds to get from the lobby to the ninth floor. The only great thing about this hotel is the lobby. I will never stay here again!
Nothing. Very run down hotel.
Cancelled one night of my stay before the 48 hour time frame. Hotel nor Kayak would reimburse me. Will not use either place again.
They did a bunch of upgrades to the main lobby since my last visit there last year. It is now more bright and open.
Good basic stay. Clean and comfortable.
The elevators were unbelievably slow. Plan an extra 10 minutes during busy times just to get downstairs.
when we arrived at the hotel they gave us a room that you couldn.t call it a room. the window was broken, it was fixed with paper and scotch and the wind blow through it. when i complained they said it was the room i had booked, and i told them that i never could have booked a room in such conditions. after arguing a little while they changed us to another room on the same floor that was ok. with no extra charge.
The rooms were way too small and there is absolutely NO room in the bathroom to move. Not to mention the room is dirty and doesn't even contain an Iron for your clothes. PLUS this hotel has 3 elevators and only 1 was functional! I was staying on the 6th floor and waited 15 minutes for the elevator which still didn't come so I had to walk down 6 flights of stairs carrying all of my luggage and the staff could care less about anything you have to say. I will NEVER stay here again.
The location of the Travelodge in combination of the price makes the hotel ideal. The room was clean, comfortable, and met all our needs.
