Great service, fantastic food. Got the Char siu bao, Sichuan chicken, green beans and Pork belly - and everything was phenomenal. The cocktails were great too! Highly recommend.

I picked this place because I had heard others say it was a great place. However, I was very underwhelmed by the food. I have had better Chinese food in China town. I would have been better off ordering Chinese take out for $30 than coming here and spending over $100. Not coming back. Very small selection of food and drinks. Great ambiance though.

Food was hit or miss. Half the dishes were bland while overloaded with salt, and the other half were superb. Recommend the beef slap noodles and green beans, but nothing was mind blowing. For the price and reputation of the Goat restaurants, you'd expect better. There are far better options in West Loop.

Reserved seats and showed up 15 min. early, seated after 40min. of waiting (a couple who reserved the same time were seated before us). Service during dinner was excellent and food was on point. Just a bit overpriced for fried rice but would definitely go again!

Delicious flavors and good service helps one to forget the high pricing for quite a few of the dishes - not all. Duck fried rice for $17? That's too much. $12.50 for 4 glutinous rice balls/dumplings? Also too high. Five cocktails and 2 beers, 2 plates each - some only appetizers and only 1 dessert and it was $280 all included. So $70 a head for Chinese food seems a bit too much...but the masses will keep coming because of the great food.\n\nThe Mapo Tofu was amazing with the tongue numbing Szechuan peppercorns. The ChiungChing (sp?) chicken is my favorite - shatteringly crisp meaty chunks, with shishito peppers (albeit some not cooked through enough) - $18. The beef and bone marrow dumplings were flavor packed. the squash soup with shrimp wontons and big slices of oyster mushrooms had so much umami it was amazing!\n\nThe Taiwanese Pineapple Cake with Crunchy Soy caramel and ice cream was well worth the single bite I forced down....

This place exceeded my expectations. I have visited Girl and the goat so I knew the food was going to be great. \nHowever this is definitely one of my favorite restaurants in the city. So creative and lively. All of the noodles are made in house, everything we ordered was delicious!\nI'll definitely be back with more friends.

Visiting from NYC and had an overall good experience here. Food was phenomenal - I was simply unhappy with being seated at the table right next to the door when there was such a notable draft coming in, plus the ambience in the inner part of the restaurant was far more appealing... Sad I didn't get to experience! The only other oddity was that some of our main entrees arrived before the dim sum we ordered. Not a big deal all in all, but definitely made the meal more fragmented than it would have otherwise been. Will definitely be back!

Food was as expected, Chinese. Green beans were great , recommended by server. Food came out fast and was hot. Other than that nothing spectacular. I was told that in the spring, the goat is better and the daily specials are to die for. I will probably try again in late spring. Server was not interested in us after we were served, she then disappeared.

If you are looking to try Stephanie Izzards cusine, I would recommend heading to Little Goat or Girl and the Goat Instead. Duck Duck Goat, for all the hype, was just not worth the wait to be seated nor was it worth the price tag. It wasn't all bad, don't get me wrong. The scallion pancakes and beef and broccoli are probably the two best dishs on the menu - but you can get them from the takeout menu. What frusterated me most about the experience was that we made a reservation, were on time (actually 5 minutes early) and waited nearly 30 minutes for our table to be ready. It was frusterated, and honestly gave me a bad taste before we even sat down. I will be going to Stephanie's other restaurants for sure, but won't be back to Duck Duck Goat.

We were a group of 5 for a birthday celebration . The food is basically family style Chinese food. So things come out at all different times for the table. We had an appetizer that never came out, when we mentioned it , our waitress asked if we were sure, and described the 'fluffy pork bun with barbecue inside' like we we had no idea what we ordered. Also a server who brought a dish stated it wasn't shellfish free, but it actually was. The manager did bring us another plate so our 'shellfish allergy diner ' could try it. All in all it was good, not great. It is quite loud in the restaurant .

The girl who waited on us was very friendly and calm for how busy it was. She always checked on us and had amazing suggestion. Overall, we really enjoyed the atmosphere, the food and the service.

Service was great - waitress was nice and the pace was spot on. The food, on the other hand, wasn't anything amazing. Everything was cooked well and had some creativity to them. We could tell that the quality of the food was good. The flavor, however, did not impress us. Every dish we ordered was too salty and soaked in soy sauce. That made everything taste similar after a while and hid any possible depth there may have been. Portions were small so expect to order 4-5 things between 2 people and pay more than what you might think is fair.

I have eaten on 3 occasions in the last month at DDG. LOVE the food! The service on my first two visits (groups of 4) was good. However on my last visit we were a group of 8 and the service was not great. The best way to experience DDG is shared meals/ family style. With a large group you sometimes need to order 2 of one item. Each time the servers placed the same items next to each other on the table instead of across making sharing difficult. The items also came out quickly so we had no space to place new items. I ended up needing to service the table by combining the duplicate items into one dish to provide space. The servers were bad at clearing dishes or providing clean plates. Also our main servers was not around much after we ordered. At these prices, a guest does not want to worry about where to place food items on the table or having to clear items to make room. However the food is amazing so I do recommend trying it!

Food was good. Service was good. We would have preferred if dishes were adjusted for the size of the group. Some seemed to big, some too small. The only complaint we had was that the meal felt rushed. We eat shared plate style frequently and enjoy a leisurely pace. At one time we had three dishes arrive at the table at almost the same time. Perhaps ask guests what pace they would prefer.

Ok ... thought I was not expecting authentic Chinese food, I expected it to be great. The only thing i thought was great the pot stickers - skin was perfectly crispy & filling was authentic. Don't bother with the chiu chow fun Gao. It's a fake version & the skin taste like some kind of kitchen cleaner. Instead of peanuts included as the filling, they made a peanut sauce but that sauce does not stick with the dumpling. The slap noodle which drew us here did not live up to the hype - chewy & hard ...the Chinese broccoli tasted like collard green. They chopped it up into tiny pieces ... this changed the way the way it should taste in a bad way.. pork belly bun was like a dried empanadas though the mustard sauce was yummy! The hostess could learn to smile more .. & the waiter too ...

We love this restaurant. The waiters make good recommendations and now when I go back I know what my favorites are. The Jasaui pot stickers are amazing, the green beans to die and the beef and broccoli is a really great dish. We always try something else new when we go just to get a better taste of the menu and overall everything is really good. I was so excited to finally try Duck Duck Goat but the food left a lot to be desired. The space is amazing-the decor is fantastic & I love the separate rooms decorated differently. Our waiter & the servers were all great -good suggestions & very attentive. The cocktails were also fantastic. Unfortunately, the food was kinda blah. I was not expecting traditional Chinese food but rather instead something new & different. The crab rangoon barely had any filling & was just ok. The beef slap noodles had an interesting flavor but not sure if that was a good thing, the short rib was tasty though. Next we had the beef & broccoli-broccoli was super flavorful while the beef was bland. Last we had the Chongqing chicken, it was spicy as expected but just not a great flavor. So overall we were very underwhelmed with the food. I'd like to say we'd be back for the great drinks & space but not likely with how hard it is to get in.

We had the soup dumplings and they were good, the hot and sour egg drop soup -- good also, the seafood fried rice (my second favorite dish) and the Peking Duck. I had heard rave reviews about the dick (PV in the Tribune raved about it), but frankly, I was disappointed. No where near the one I had in Beijing. I wouldn't order it again. Our first experience at Duck Duck Goat was fantastic! My wife and I were there for our anniversary. We went very early, because we had heard that it gets crowded and there are long waits for tables even with a reservation. Our server Lindsey was delightful ,-- friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu. Each dish we ordered was better than the one before it: potstickers with short rib and bone marrow, then the duck hearts. (Don't be put off: they taste like beef tenderloin and are delicious.) The slap noodles were very good, and the Chunking chicken was wonderful. Cocktails were great too. Try anything listed in red as a house specialty and you can't go wrong. We loved it.

Really terrible. I love you, Chi, but Chinese cuisines/fusions are generally poorly executed in Chicago--and Duck Duck Goat tops the bad list. The XLB have received raves reviews but everyone at my table was incredibly disappointed: most leaking broth upon arrival, soggy, thick skins, too salty without balance--even the worst dumplings I've had in Shanghai were still light years better than these. In general, 'too salty' was the overriding theme of most of the dishes we tried, as though everything had Kikkoman brand soy sauce at its base. The flavor in the Peking duck was ok, but the meat was very dry. Slap noodles were texturally weird--the mouthfeel of noodles that had been sitting & then reheated. \n\nI had two visiting sommeliers with me that evening and they were particularly dismayed by the service. The servers were nice enough, but we had several through the evening and it was incredibly frustrating not being able to get anyone's attention as they all ran past our table without stopping. For a meal that cost close to $400 (with tip & excluding multiple cocktails in their lounge), this is not right. And when our party of 6 was automatically seated at a high top without even asking if it were ok, there were plenty of raised eyebrows. \n\nI had really high hopes for this place, which makes the disappointment so much worse. It's safe to assume not one of us 6 will be returning.

Food was good, except the mapo. So much Szechuan it made my tongue numb. Service was a little odd because as soon as I questioned the peppercorn used in the Mapo the server asked if I wanted it taken off my bill. I've never been asked that before, I didn't know it was up to my discretion? Anyway the bone marrow potstickers were amazing!

We visited Duck Duck Goat to celebrate a birthday on a late Friday night. The Pekan Chicken, Beef Slap Noodles and Pineapple Cake were our favorites. Ambiance was fun–loved the dim lighting, decor and throwback-y hip hop music. \n\nHalf of our party thought the cocktails were just so-so. But, the tea was on point. When we ordered four dishes to share amongst our party of four, the server said we were 'under ordering.' She recommended eight to nine dishes for our table and said she needed to get our entire order into the kitchen. Two people had dined there before and thought the items we chose were sufficient. But she didn't back down and recommended we order more. So we ordered the Beef & Broccoli she suggested. We felt...bullied into ordering that amount. Don't get me wrong, we ate everything, but I still think that fifth dish wasn't necessary (especially since we pre-ordered dessert for the birthday we were celebrating). We were all pretty full, but at least the dish she recommended was delicious. \n\nAnother turnoff: the server brought out the birthday dessert (with candle) when one of the people in our party was in the restroom. I was in the industry for nearly a decade, that's just something you don't do. I can understand if it was a large party, but c'mon, there were only four of us. So, we sat and waited, watching the candle burn down further and further until everyone was present. \n\nOther than those two service hiccups, everything was great. Our waters were filled and we were checked on pretty regularly. I'm sure it's not entirely the server's fault. I've worked in plenty of restaurants that focus on upselling where you get grilled if a table doesn't order x amount of items. So, it's more of a note to management than a criticism of the server, although I think she could have been more tactful.

We are big fans of Girl and the Goat so felt confident that the quality of food and service would be the same here. Unfortunately this wasn't the case. The service while congenial was inattentive. Our server had to be reminded constantly about drink orders. \nThe food lacked a real depth of flavour. Peking Duck with flabby skin. The food was fantastic as all of her restaurants are. One exception was the pot stickers. The flavors were there but half of them were burnt and half of them were underdone. It was great that they had a lounge area for us to wait, but I think that area is more strategic so they can over book, place guests in that lounge so they can buy pricey cocktails for 30 minutes while they wait for their table. We had a very fun time at Duck Duck Goat. The decor is amazing. Very exciting vibe. We did have to wait awhile for a table to become available for our booked time, but I think people just like hanging out here so they overstay the normal seating time. The kitchen definitely needs help keeping up with the orders because it took seemingly forever to get our food, but when we did it was all tasty. Great food and we ordered a lot of different items. Everything was delicious. Every other aspect of the dining experience was lame. This place is the epitome of today's West Loop. If you don't know what that means, go get some great food, check out the over the top Chinese decor, be forced to wait for your table (with a reservation) in a tiny holding cell with a single bartender and 20 other people, drink the overpriced craft cocktails, have your conversation drowned out by Notorious B.I.G. songs, deal with young inexperienced staff, listen to your server tell you how to order and share food (it's Chinese food, FYI) & sit shoulder to shoulder with strangers while listening to their conversations in the bench seating environment. If you know what my comment means . . . order takeout because the food is truly delicious. However, keep in mind that you are still paying extra for all the West Loop nonsense that is built into their food prices.

Stephanie Izard does it again! I use to live in Chicago a few years back and would frequent Girl and the Goat a few times a year as well as the occasional stop to Little Goat Diner. I became a fan and follower of the chef on Instagram. When I saw that she was opening another restaurant in the West Loop I was thrilled. When I learned that it was going to be her version of Chinese I was doubly excited. I followed her postings of the new restaurant on Instagram and couldn't wait for my next trip to Chicago to book my reservation. Unfortunately we didn't end up going to Chicago until last week waiting almost an entire 9 months to try this gem. It was totally worth the wait! Walking into the restaurant was unbelievable. The design and décor added to the ambience and overall dining experience. We were greeted by our server right away and she advised us that 2 dishes per person around the norm as these are small plates. Since we were only in Chicago for a short time we wanted to try as much as we could off the menu. We tried the Char Siu Bao to start and they were delightful. The buns were soft and warm on the outside and the pork was tender and tasty. We had the green beans which were unbelievable. Just as good as the ones at Girl and the Goat with a totally different spin. I can't decide which I like better but in my mind neither outshone the other. They are a very decent sized helping so be prepared to eat. They are served in a black bean sauce and very light and fresh. The next dish was the Sichuan Pork Wontons and my favorite. They served 4 and they were a very good size especially for two people. The sauce and textures was just unbelievable. We finished with the Dan Dan Noodles and Chongqing Chicken. Both were very good size portions and we couldn't finish either realizing that we definitely over ordered. They were both yummy but the chicken was especially complex. I highly recommend Duck Duck Goat for foodies and Stephanie Izard fans!

This restaurant was absolutely beautiful. Very thought out experience from the interior design, to the way the cocktails/food was prepared and presented! It won't go down as some our favorite authentic Chinese cuisine in the city. It was 'reasonably authentic cuisine' which is what they claim it to be, and that seems fair! But it was perfect for a friends get together, at a very popular location in town. I think next time I will try the walk up window, that seems like a very neat concept.

Night out with our young adult children back home for the holidays . Choosing a place everyone enjoys can be tough with our group; 2- 20 somethings a 16yr old , a vegetarian and one shrimp allergy! But I hit a home run with Duck Duck Goat! Everyone loved it. The food was flavorful and each dish was plenty to share. The staff was great about telling us which dishes had shrimp..they also had a dedicated vegetarian menu. We ordered about 6to 7 dishes because of the dietary restrictions plus we just wanted to taste a little of everything! We ordered the Peking Duck ( yummy!) It was a large portion, thankfully 4 of us were eating it but not so great was it was the last thing they brought out so we were pretty stuffed by then and ended up taking most of it home. from dim sum, I would skip the one with short rib bone marrow and double up on the soup dumplings, they were delicious! \nThe cocktails were great and strong! One drink was plenty. Reservations are tough to get but doable, atmosphere fun and casual . I'm not a huge fan of the backless chairs but I'll definitely be back to dine again soon!

I think that it is safe to measure a Chinese restaurant based on their fried rice. It is a staple of the cuisine, at least in Americanized Chinese food. We ordered the duck fried rice and it was almost inedible. It had no flavor yet emitted a very strange, dirty sock smell. We came here with high hopes do to really enjoying GIrl and the Goat a couple years ago when we managed to score a reservation there. We finally got around to Duck Duck and even though we arrived right at our reservation time we still had a long wait approximately 40 minutes and it was in the cramped loungey bar area. The place was jammed for sure. Once seated we made the mistake of listening to the waitress who told us that 5 dishes would be good for us as they were all sharable. She was so wrong.. The dishes were all so healthy that we were full after the first couple dishes and had to merely taste the remaining and have them boxed up to take home. That wasn't really a problem because they were just as good heated up at home later but still it is something to consider when you go there. We couldve done well enough with just 2 dishes shared between us 2. We ordered pot sticker stuffed with bone marrow and short rib...so decadent and delicious...we also had crab rangoon...such a large appetizer with very good rangoon. We then had the beef slap noodles the pork fried rice and the green beans.. All the dishes were so very good...and again as i said even better as leftovers...This is not a cheap place to eat but the food is very good.

DDG was better than I had expected, having read some reviews that said the dishes were not very 'Chinese.' Each of the dishes we ordered all had a lot of flavor to them, and good mouth feel as well. Szechuan tofu and chicken dish was very good. They were to be shared, but not that large. They recommended 7 to 9 dishes, which would have been too many for one the man and three women that made up our party, but for many it would have been just right. White or brown rice was not served with some of the saucy dishes. It would have been good, and I should have asked. The duck fried rice was very tasty--nice poached egg, though I am not sure there as a lot of duck to it. Service was very good. We asked to be moved to an area which was busier than the room we had been seated in, and they handled that very nicely. The one drink we had (Cinna-something, first on their cocktail list) was very good. We will plan to go back.

The ambience of Duck Duck Goat is incredible. They have done a wonderful job creating a great, authentic vibe. Unfortunately the food fell far short of the ambiance. Here is what we ordered with our thoughts:\n- Crab Rangoon- honestly I have had far better at my local Chinese takeout and the sauce they serve with it just doesn't work.\n\n-Shrimp Toast- best thing we ordered. I really liked this.\n\n-Duck Fried Rice- just okay. Seemed kind of dry. Nothing special\n\n-Shrimp in Black Bean Sauce- this was pretty good, not outstanding. There were more shrimp than I expected for\nThe price\n\n-Chongqing Chicken- this was actually not good at all. Small pieces of overly fried chicken.\n\nI was so excited to try Duck Duck Goat but it was an overall disappointment. While prices are very reasonable overall, we left feeling like we wasted $145. I have read some great reviews, so possibly we just visited on an off night or ordered the wrong things. Our server was very friendly I will say.

We were seated at a great cozy corner both by the window. The only problem was it was freezing! I could literally feel cold air blowing on the back of me. Given that it was one of the coldest nights in Chicago, they should have made a better effort at ensuring the place was properly heated and insulated. However, we stuck it out, ordered hot tea and made the best of it. We had the peking duck which was amazing! High recommend.

The food is delicious and flavorful. Exactly what I expected from chef. The plate size is best for a sharing and for a large group (3+). As a single or 2 person you just won't be able to taste and explore as much. It's a little loud during rush hour but it reminds me of a busy Chinese restaurant :) so I see it as a positive

Duck Duck Goat went directly to my top 3 restaurants podium. The food is great - having lived in China for a few years, I believe that the food was traditional enough to be qualified as Chinese. The flavors were well paired and quite original. The place is nice, cosy and intimate. The bar in the center feels like a beach hut. It is not too big (vs. The Girl and the Goat) and the noise level was rather low for such a restaurant.

We had a wonderful time at Duck, Duck, Goat. The food was absolutely delicious and we cannot give Chef Stephanie enough props for learning her craft so well. Our waitress was very helpful and knowledgeable and the atmosphere was engaging. The only 'ding' I could give was that the music was very loud and, with only hard surfaces to reverberate from, it made it difficult for quiet conversation. We were disappointed at first, being seated right by the kitchen, but it actually made the experience more enjoyable, being able to watch the cooks prepare the dishes.\nWe will be back!

Seafood fried rice was salty and skimpy on the seafood. Four dishes was too much for the two of us. As a popular place, it was noisy and a little cramped. Prices were reasonable for very good food and good sized portions. Next time, we will go with a larger group to try more things.

Food was outstanding!!! Service started slow, like nobody even acknowledged us for 20 minutes after we sat down. Finally my wife said something and another server came over, apologized, and took our drink order. Once our designated server was told what happened, she came over and apologized. After that, she was extremely attentive. Since this was our first time here, her knowledge of the menu was very helpful. During dinner, the manager stopped over to acknowledge and apologize for our wait, and he comp'd us our appetizers and a couple of glasses of wine. He also brought us complementary pot stickers that were outstanding. We will order them every time we return. The professionalism of the staff and manager, not to mention the food quality, turned what could have been a one time visit into a definite addition to our rotation of dining choices in that area.

Great ambiance, service and the food was good although nothing really stood out for us. Maybe it is because we had vegetarian dishes. My green tea was extremely bitter and almost undrinkable. We liked the fact there was a special menu for vegetarians. And what's up with the music in Chicago restaurants? I have noticed lately more and more restaurants have loud pop music which makes it very hard to have a conversation. I also felt the music was out of place with regards to the ambiance and style of the restaurant.

Loved the food, but hated when they squeezed all our dishes out at once and planted them all on top of us at our tiny two top. This could have been overlooked if not for the 30 min wait ahead of time where we were shuttled to a bar clearly created for you to wait and spend $50 on drinks before dinner. If I'm spending that much extra before I'm even seated, I don't want to be in a cramped room. I want to be out in the main dining room sitting at that bar. Then it took forever for waitress to return but by that time we needed our check and couldn't fathom dessert. Timing needs work, though it was a Friday night and this is an IT restaurant right now.

We were really excited to get a reservation last minute for Sunday Dim Sum! We were underwhelmed with the selection for brunch (you cannot order off the dinner menu) and taste of our food. Scallion cakes were good, shrimp toast texture was really off putting, soup ok, fried chicken was not chicken and appeared to be skins and remnants which none of us ate, rice dish was extremely salty and we did not eat that either. We wished we could have done our Sunday brunch over somewhere else. The dinner menu looks more enticing however, given our experience we will not go back. Ambiance was beautiful, server nice and craft cocktails look good. Maybe we will come for a drink sometime but we spent over $120 for a less than meal.

Food was not worth the cost. Chicken dish came fried to the extent that it could barely be chewed. Sesame seeds monopolized the dish. Seafood dishes were better then chicken, but still mediocre given the hype of the restaurant. Dim Sum seems to be the best options, but no different then ordering from the neighborhood Chinese food restaurant. Clearly the only reason why they are doing well is due to the popularity of the affiliated restaurants.

This was our first time at Duck Duck Goat. We've been to Girl and the Goat and Little Goat. We expected the food to be on par as her other restaurants, which it was. The decor was awesome. The food was very good and came out fast after ordering. I highly recommend the potstickers with bone marrow and short rib. The Cheong Fun XO was delicious as well. The only negative was I had reservations at 8 but didn't get seated until 9. We sat in the lounge in the back of the restaurant for a long time. It is likely because it was a Friday evening on a holiday weekend. The hostess didn't give us an ETA as to when they thought they can seat us so I had to physically go up there to check. However, our server was very nice and attentive. She knew we waited so long (I never even brought it up to her) and gave us free dessert which is a nice gesture. It's obviously expensive chinese food but it was well done and would come back again but maybe during an off peak time. I loved the music - all 80s throwbacks and early 90s.

We came for dim sum and I really wanted to love this place but instead, only thought it was ok. Some of the dishes were good but the portion sizes were so small and the prices were not. In some cases, we had to order 2 or 3 of the same dish so everyone in our group (5 people) could try a piece/bite. the HAM SUI GOK were good but the dumpling was greasy. The goat fried rice was good as were the slap noodles. Portion size was still not large by any means but enough for everyone to have a few bites. The xiao long baos had good flavor but had little soup inside and the skins were a bit thick, like they were oversteamed. The BBQ pork bao (had to order 3 plates) was just ok and left me disappointed bec these were $10 for a plate of 2 baos! I rarely balk at food prices but it just seemed excessive. I think I will stick to dim sum in Chinatown and maybe come back here for a special occasion dinner.

Upscale Asian Restaurants. Arguably the most challenging for successful multi-themed restauranteurs in Chicago. And so here as well. Neat place, but once is enough. \n\nIf you have ben dining in Chicago long enough to recall the enormous successes of the open-no-longer Marche and Vivo a few blocks south on Randolph, you no doubt recall the Asian sister, Red Light. It is rumored that Marche and Vivo made millions and millions catering to the likes of Michael Jordan and Oprah, and Red Light never made any profit. So too, you may recall the South Loop Asian restaurant by the same group, Opera has closed while its Italian sister Gioco remains. Vong in River North is another example of upscale Asian that missed the mark. Lettuce Entertain You has kept its Asian offerings to causal Big Bowl and hasn't done anything in the upscale vein save Raman San, which is more of a niche and also pretty casual. Unstoppable Sodikoff isn't touching Asian in any of his numerous concepts. \n\nBut if you love to cook, you love Asian food. That is a fact. Watch Anthony Bourdain. And you also recognize the tremendous impact Chinese restaurants have had on the American palate and the overall American experience. So if your partner is a chef, chances are, they want to do Asian. And they always look to New York, where the more diverse dining community supports it... even though the only Asian restaurant operating on Randolph is a place focused on dumplings and street food and does delivery. \n\nSo, in keeping with the awesomeness that is the Girl and the Goat the the Little Goat, here is Duck Duck Goat. Perfect location. Perfect decor. Perfect service. We ordered the duck and it was very good. The experience overall was very good. The food was good. The food was also very heavy. And though good, I don't think we return with the many options available. I would go for Peking Duck in China Town or the indisputably exceptional Shanghai Terrace at the Peninsula Hotel.

It would be a very good neighborhood, Asian restaurant but not worth the long drive, traffic, parking etc. The service was ok (why does it take so long for wait staffs to take the initial drink order?). They have the same (lame) policy as Girl &a the Goat where they want you to order everything at once (almost guaranteeing that you over order). Everything was good but nothing really stood out. On the good front, it isn't particularly expensive. If someone really wants to try DDG for themselves, you might get a seat at the bar and just order some appetizers. After trying to get a reservation here for 3 months at a decent time, I was thoroughly disappointed in every aspect of the dining experience. The 445pm reservation was awful to begin with and the restaurant was clearly not ready for diners. The duck was dry. It was served with typical Mu Shoo pork wraps that I could get at any Chinese place. It should be served with bao. The side dish accompanying the duck of cucumbers and radishes was underwhelming and more plum sauce would have helped along with traditional scallions. We ordered the short rib pot stickers that were mushy and the dumplings clearly stuck to nothing. Seemed 3/4 cooked. After finishing 90% of the dry duck the green beans showed up. All I can say about them is that I can make the same at home and it may actually be served at the time the main entrée is being served. Waste of hard earned money and will never recommend.

Amazing service in a fun and trendy Chinese fusion restaurant. Come with an open mind and leave your judgement of what 'authentic' means ... Chef Izard personal take is an homage to the great Chinese cuisine. And what an unique spin to it ... our server Jonathan help carve out some great dishes to make a wonderful meal. Must haves include the grilled shrimp, octopus and cucumber salad, and the seasonal mango coconut cloud dessert.

Made this reservation a month in advance for 9:00 but we weren't seated until 10:10. I talked with the restaurant the afternoon of the reservation to share a serious food allergy as well as the fact that this was my son's choice to celebrate his 21st birthday. When we were finally seated our server clearly had no knowledge of the food allergy, and at no time during the meal was the birthday acknowledged. Very disappointed from a customer service perspective, with no reflection on our individual server, who was quite helpful.

Overall, the experience was good....but it's hard to come back from making your guests wait an hour after their reservation time.\n\nWe sat in the lounge for an hour before we were finally seated. The lounge is NOT large and we were starving by the time they came to fetch us. The waiter said he knew we waited a while for our table and said he put in an order for a Dim Sum on the house. Nice.\n\nDim Sum was actually a cold dish: a plate of pickled cucumbers. Disappointing. Our round of drinks while waiting was not only sitting in our empty stomachs, but set us back at least $50. A $7 plate of cucumbers is an odd choice.\n\nThe rest of the meal (and our server) was very nice and we had more than enough to eat by the end. Favorites were shrimp toast, beef with broccoli and Dan Dan noodles. Macadamia nut ice cream was also a big hit.\n\nI wish they would figure out the wait situation. I'm guessing they wouldn't be so accommodating if I showed up an hour late for my reservation? Note: one in our group said this is the second time she's come in and had a long wait, so it seems to be a chronic problem.

The pork and bone marrow potstickers at Duck Duck Goat are to die for. Having said that, the rest of the meal was just 'okay'. This included: crab rangoon (pretty bland), Cheung Fun, and beef & broccoli. \n\nDon't take my review as negative. The atmosphere was fun and the service was great... we will just be trying different appetizers and dishes at our next visit.

What a disappointment. I really like Girl and the Goat and I adore Little Goat. I went with another person and we ordered 5 items; there was only 1 I thought came up to the offerings at Izzard's other 2 restaurants -- that was the slapnoodle with shrimp and goat. The moo shu was not. The pancakes were too small and delicate, the filling pieces were too large for the pancake, it fell apart in your hand before ever getting to the mouth. The hoi sin sauce was thin and vinegary. Love moo shu, but not this one. We got the eggplant dish and the eggplant was hard, not lusciously creamy like it is in most Asian restaurants. The jiazo were good but not outstanding. Same with the green beans in black bean sauce. The waitress recommended 3 to 5 items for 2 of us; we had leftovers of every dish. I would go with 3 if I ever went back, which I doubt I will.

By far the worst dining experience I have had in Chicago. We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation. Our waitress was cold and did very little to check on us. Our appetizer arrived 25 minutes after we ordered, one of our shared entrees 45 min later. The chicken they served us was completely raw in the middle. When I told my waitress, she did send a manager over who offered to replace the chicken, and give us a free dessert. The waitress nor the manager did not come over to check on us once after that. Our replacement entree did not arrive until 30 minutes later. When the waitress came (2 hours into our meal- we are totally ready to leave but were having trouble flagging her down for the check), she gave us a dessert. After she set it down, she asked if either of us was allergic to nuts. My boyfriend is very allergic to cashews. The dessert was a cashew cake covered in mixed nuts. Her response? A shrug of the shoulders, an 'Oh Well.' Then she walked away. No offer to replace it with something he could eat, no apologies for the horrendous service, the amount of time that it took for us to get our food. We will certainly not be going back, and will share this experience with friends.

The food was worth the wait. We waited two months for a reservation so I was hoping it was going to live up to the hype. Once we got there for our 6:30 reservation we were ushered into the 'lounge' where we spend $100 before our meal because we were not seated until 7pm. The hostess was apologetic and comped us an appitzer, but just be prepared to wait even if you have a reservation.\n\nOnce we were seated it was an amazing experience. Our waitress was great with suggesting dishes and how much food we would need. We had four people and this is what we ordered.\n\nJIAZO: SO GOOD\nWOOD-FIRED DUCK HEARTS: Great, tasted like breaded chicken with a great sauce\nBEEF SLAP NOODLES: Delish! This was my favorite dish. The noodles were incredible\nSICHUAN EGGPLANT & GOAT SAUSAGE: Very good, not a lot of sausage but it was a good dish\nPEKING DUCK: We pre-ordered the duck because they only make so many a day. It was so tender with a crispy skin. They give you garnishes and these very thing wrapes and sauces to make little duck tacos. The meat was fantastic

Food comes out one plate at a time. Ridiculous. Not everyone enjoys the same things so some go hungry or the food gets cold as one waits. \n\nDo not plan on Peking duck. They only prepare a small number at a time. One has to be lucky. Or wait for it to cook, and, keep the table out of play. Which really can mess up the next issue...\n\nAlthough, I might understand the policy, guests should be able to be seated when they arrive regardless of a complete reservation. I'm not a bar person but I enjoy a cocktail. So I want to be seated at my table and enjoy. And wait. I don't feel it's taking up space but adding to my bill. These cute young hosts/hostesses should be trained to evaluate diners. \n\nThey will not accommodate a reservation larger than 8. After that it's a private room with a $2000. minimum. I just want to take my family for dinner. No longer. \n\nGuess I really didn't enjoy it

We very much enjoyed the ambiance, our cocktails the Jiazo to start. We then split the Cheong Fun Xo and the Hongshao Rou. The cuttlefish in the Cheong Fun Xo was incredibly tender and the sauce was delicious, however the Hongshao Rou was a big disappointment. The menu describes it as 'red braised pork,' when in reality it is a plate of unrendered pork belly. For just 2 women, it was much, much too rich and we left that dish mostly uneaten as a result.

I really, really want to love this place, the menu is exciting (on paper), the decor is fun, service is helpful without being overbearing, but... Both times I have been we have waited far too long for our reserved table (50 minutes on a Thursday at 8:00 and 35 minutes on a Sunday at 5:45). And this last visit, many of the dishes seemed cobbled together from scraps. I would like to think I'm not too critical, but I do have high expectations from this chef and restaurant group, especially when it takes weeks, if not months, to get a reservation for a time and day one would actually want eat at.

Had our anniversary dinner here and it did not disappoint. Got there a little early for our reservation and were accommodated quickly. Server and staff were excellent. The Char Siu rib appetizer was great as was the beef and broccoli and beef slap noodles. I would never order beef and broccoli at a Chinese restaurant but after the server described it, we had to try it and it was outstanding. The short rib and bone marrow potstickers weren't as good as they sounded on the menu, a little simple sauce on the side might have helped them out but they were still good. Twice cooked pork was also very good. Will never look at Asian food the same after this experience!

The Empress Has No Clothes\nMy wife and I really looked forward to this reservation, made weeks before, and even then a 4:30 pm reservation for dinner was the best we could do. But that's OK, if Duck, Duck Goat had delivered. It did not! My wife's cocktail tasted like cinnamon--nothing else, no subtlety--amateur hour from the bar. The vegetable spring rolls were about the diameter of a fat pen, filled with a pasty mush. I suppose these had been frozen and the inner wrapper kind of melded with the negligible vegetable filling--producing a very unappetizing paste. The dipping sauce was aioli--heavy on top of heavy. The signature shrimp toast, a specialty of the house which our (very lovely) waitress recommended, was a gloppy, leaden mess, absolutely swimming in aioli (again), 'drizzled' on the top. (Whoever used that squeeze bottle in the kitchen certainly covered every inch). I don't think aioli is mentioned on the menu (I might be wrong with this detail) but it's a huge component of the dish, which must be 75% fat. There was not a hint of the taste of shrimp here. It was inedible- we left 3 of the 5 pieces- but for the herbs and pickled peppers sprinkled as garnish on top, which proved to be the highlight of the meal. The Pekan Chicken was cloyingly, syrupy sweet, with no balance (no acidity detectable) and absolutely laced with 5-spice. While the first taste of this dish was 'interesting', by the third bite I was feeling queasy, and when the dish was half eaten I felt I needed an insulin shot. The Chow Fun Noodles with Chicken was OK--certainly not inspired or better tasting than any old Chinese restaurants Chow Fun Noodles. A solid 'C'. (This dish WAS very attractive looking.)\nIt's possible we ordered all wrong, but we were steered to 2 of the 4 dishes. Any, and I mean any, meal at a place like Big Bowl is fresher, lighter, more flavorful and more satisfying. My advice--order from one of the Chinese take-out menus that litter your entry hall floor.

I was so so disappointed by Duck Duck Goat. It was our tenth wedding anniversary and we could only secure a reservation at a very late time. The staff were great, really friendly and attentive service. But the food was just not really good enough in my opinion. Every dish just had something about it that didn't taste right. I love unusual and experimental flavour combinations and really enjoy regional cuisine from China. But nearly everything we tried just didn't 'work'. The blueberries in the soup for example were a nice touch for the first few mouthfuls, but by the end of the dish it was just too sweet and cloying. The tofu with meat had some very strange extremely bitter parts to it (burnt chilli skin maybe?) so that it was rendered extremely unpleasant on your tongue. Oh such a shame! Our waiter was so nice that we didn't want to say anything about the food so just smiled, paid and left...

The food was tasty, some taste due to excess salt, but there were interesting flavors and ingredients overall. So the food is worth the visit to experience interpretations of classic dishes. I do not have a problem with dishes coming out one at a time, but there was a half hour delay between our rice dish and entree dishes. So we sat there staring at what became cold rice, not sure if we should eat more or leave room for the next dishes. So the timing from the kitchen could have been better. My last complaint is there was no bike rack. Spent 20 minutes outside looking for a pole or fence to lock to. You would think all restaurants would make accommodation for how guests arrive at their establishment.

Being hit or miss on seasoning for my taste and other minute touches are what kept me from really loving the food. \n Char Siu Bao (steamed pork buns) would benefit from a touch more sauce in the filling, though the buns themselves were extraordinarily fluffy and delightful. The crab rangoons, though executed perfectly well and tasty in their own right, left me craving the takeout equivalent - stuffed with imitation crab meat, cream cheese and msg. The Pekan chicken was incredibly satisfying and deeply umami, one of my favorite bites at any of Chef Stephanie's properties. Twice cooked pork was very tender, and I enjoyed the yum yum hibachi-esque sauce and, if I remember correctly, bok choy with it. Either way, a tasty dish. \n Service was excellent, no qualms at all. Staff was attentive, water glasses were full, and the server was ready to put in an order no later than we were ready. Neither overbearing nor too sparse.

When I saw that Duck Duck Goat had an open reservation for a decent time, I was ecstatic to check out such a well reviewed restaurant. However, maybe my expectations were too high, because I was underwhelmed with the whole experience. They were 30 minutes late to seat us. The chairs have no backs, so my date was uncomfortable the whole time. The service was sloppy. The food was decent, but nothing special. And worst of all, the wine pours were extra short. I think I got about 5 sips of Malbec before I was finished. I'd go back, but there are plenty of other great restaurants nearby that are better options.

The same garnish on almost all of the dishes was a turn off - so was the salt lick some of them came out as. A few items are a must have like the short rib and marrow pot stickers. The beef slap noodles were also good. The duck hearts are not all that great and the spicy chicken dish was inedible because of the salty factor. This was my second time here (the first was when it first debuted) and I feel like things have gone down hill a bit since it first opened. I wouldn't deter someone from checking it out but the 'booked 3 months out' thing has me scratching my head.

The food was good. It's definitely not authentic Chinese food but I didn't expect it to be. It had all the construct of Chinese food, from the decor, the menu offerings and style of food (dim sum, noodles, fried rice, etc). However, the flavors were just not what you would expect from Chinese food. Also, the food tasted all the same in my opinion. Based on the prices, if you are looking for a better value, go to Chinatown . I would still recommend based on overall atmosphere and service if you are looking for a special time out which is something you really can't get at Chinatown.

The restaurant decor is super fun. However when we got there we waited in the lounge area for almost 25 minutes which was confusing because the drinks were more expensive in there than on the main drink menu and felt kind of like a way to make more money as the tables seemed to clear pretty quickly. Once we sat down our server was super nice and helpful the first two items came out incredibly quickly. Then after that it took forever to be checked on, to have plates cleared, and the remainder of our meal to come out. The food overall was good and but the soup dumplings and the beef slap noodles were overwhelmingly laced with five spice which for me was a negative. There is a new place in river north that I felt had much better soup dumplings as well which I was surprised by. One more somewhat distracting thing was the hostesses continued to walk around with a laptop monitoring everyone's progress in their meal which felt a little intrusive. I really did appreciate how kind our server was when she was there but the timing all just seemed to be a little off. I would go back again and focus mainly on the appetizers than the entrees next time.

I hate to say it, for fear of making it even harder to get a table here, but this is by far the best restaurant in the Izard empire right now. I recently had the misfortune to return to Girl & The Goat, which remains as overrated as ever, with sloppy-looking plates filled with a one-note flavor that are so far away from the quality work she was doing at Scylla before the Top Chef victory. And everyone knows that Little Goat is a must to avoid. So imagine my surprise at DDG, with its beautiful presentations of food with deep, complex flavors. I'm assuming this is mostly due to the work of whoever is doing the real cooking there, since Izard wasn't around the night I was there last week -- and never seems to be in any of her restaurants. But after an underwhelming serving of soup dumplings, I was smitted with the potstickers and even more enamored of the dan dan noodles, with pasta that was clearly housemade and bathed in a creamy peanut sauce. And although our goat-of-the-day shank was a little overcooked and dry, it was still tasty and had lots of nice condiments to jazz it up. Super-competent and friendly service, too. I'll be back soon...if I can get a table sometime other than 4 p.m or 10:30 p.m.

The scallion pancakes, slap noodles, duck fried rice and bone marrow pot stickers are must gets.\n\n Every time though I have always had to wait despite the reservations. Last night our group of six were not seated until 7:40 when we had a 7:00 reservation. The waiting bar area is tiny. One of the managers had come back and said that when we were seated there would be some complimentary appetizers delivered immediately. That did not happen for more than 20 minutes and they weren't warm. Because of these delays we had to rush through dinner more than usual.. We ordered 9 dishes, 4 of which I've had before. Unfortunately, none of the dishes wowed us. Even the dishes I've had before didn't do it for us. They're not bad; just not great. And I must add, I'm all for fusion, but I still think Chinese dishes should not have tomatoes. The slap noodles tasted a lot more tomato-y this time. I'll start with the positives: I LOVE Chinese food and this exceeded my expectations. Even the menu looked like it was from a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant! We had the scallion pancakes (amazing) and the Sichuan pork wontons to start. They didn't have any crab Rangoon left which annoyed me since we were sat over 40 minutes past our reservation time. I wondered who had the last rangoons. We also had the grilled beef & broccoli (amazing) and the Chongqing chicken. Now the chicken would have been great if it were actually in bite size proportions. They only give you chopsticks and with the outer layer being so crispy, it was hard to break it down to smaller pieces. Still delicious though. \n\nAs for the negatives, they skipped over our reservation and sat another table first. Luckily we went to inquire as to why we were still at the bar 40+ minutes past our reservation time - who knows how long we would have been there. One of the hosts gave us a starter as a consolation gift, but it just started the night off wrong. Then the Rangoon was out. And then finally our server wasn't exactly attentive. As soon as we said that we weren't interested in dessert, she was through.\n\nIf I could get the full menu at the to go window, I would just go there in the future.

My big beef with this super over-rated place is the constant harassment about my reservation, which, I might add, I had to make two whole months in advance. I got two notices from Open Table, a call from the restaurant itself, and, when they didn't get me, insisted that I call back. Am I not an adult? Just how special do they think they are? \nOn top of this, when one of our party got sick, and we were down to two, the hostess informed us as to how lucky we were that she could still seat us at a table for two. Huh? What happened to the original table for three? Why couldn't we have used that? Plus there was scads of outdoor seating that she never mentioned. Which was being used. Impling that next time, if we don't inform them of a change in size, we would not be seated at all\nThat said, the food was good, but not any better than a good place in Chinatown. Goat is the go-to meat for the entire continent of Africa. \nHowever, the cocktail I ordered, 121 something I think, was extraordinary. I ordered another. Bill for two, was $150 with tip, 3 drinks, two small dishes, two larger ones.

The food is fabulous! The seafood fried rice was mouthwatering. Every bite was rich in flavor and a great sensual experience. We ordered the Peking duck and the presentation was great. It comes de-boned with the head and wings and crispy skin covering the juicy succulent meat. All we had to do was put as much duck and garnish as we wanted into each pancake. Our experience has been that a chef came to your table and carved the duck for you. However, we liked this experience. \nThe goat and crisp duck skin egg roll was fantastic. The goat was succulent and tender and the duck skin gave it just the right amount of crunch. The glutenous goat dumplings had that little bit of crunch on the outside and that fabulous goat and gravy melted in your mouth. We had veggies! the Chinese broccoli was absolutely delicious. About 20 minutes into our meal (outside) an overpowering smell of ammonia filled the air outside necessitating evacuation of our table. The fire department did not let us return to our outside table and the restaurant was amazing: they immediately found another table for us, despite being filled to the rafters, they reordered all our dishes even though we had eaten quite a bit and Agnes, our server was so accommodating and gracious, even getting my daughter a cold compress since she felt ill from the ammonia smell. \nWe ordered a variety of dishes; the beef short rib potstickers were delicious, the scallion pancakes were crispy and hot. We also ordered the green beans which were very tasty with crispy string onions and garlic and 2 chicken dishes, the short ribs and a tofu dish. The chicken with pecans was good although I felt the pieces of chicken were a bit small which made them seem a little overcooked although the tangy sweet/sour sauce was tasty; this order also took a really long time to get to us. We also ordered 1 dessert to share - the pineapple cake with caramel sauce and ice cream was warm and had a nice flavor.\nAll in all the restaurant has cute little niches and we had a very enjoyable experience.

Great meal! We loved every dish except for the veggie spring rolls. I don't recommend those. They seemed a little soggy, not crisp as you'd expect from something fried. \n\nThe custom made drinks are great! My favorite is the Great Wall.

Food was great and we had a wonderful waitress that made our experience most enjoyable. We loved the atmosphere.\n\nThe only issue we faced is that when we arrived at 4:30 they told us they were not ready for us and asked us to wait out front. It was raining. Several people arrived and were told the same thing. We were all just standing there and no one came out to get us. Finally at 4:40 I walked back in and said can we come in now? There were three people behind the front desk and they simply said... 'sure.' Well it sure would have been nice if one of them would have come out and let us in. Not a great start to our experience but after this.... everything was fantastic!

We were disappointed with our experience at Duck Duck Goat. We waited a long time for our reservations and it fell very flat. \n\nThe food was below expectations. The Chongqing Chicken was full of fat and tendons. The Seafood Fried Rice and Green Beans both had a super overpowering taste so the entire dish tasted like one note. However, the Scallion Pancakes and Almond Tofu were amazing.\n\nThe music was off-putting - not saying it had to be traditional music but having one-off 90s hits like 'No Scrubs' blasting during your nice dinner seemed like the wrong call.\n\nLastly, I was hit in the head accidentally by a staff member who then offered us complimentary dessert, so we put in a order of Pineapple Cake and then were brought out both Pineapple Cake and Almond Tofu. When our bill came we were charged for the Pineapple Cake, which we only ordered because we were told it was complimentary, not that there was a specific dessert we were being bought.\n\nNot planning to go back or recommend this to anyone. Izard's other restaurants are leaps and bounds better than this one.

We had a great experience here and highly recommend going with a group of people. They take your order all at once and then bring things out as they are ready and serve them family style. Reservations can be made for up to 8 people (more than that is private dining). Make your reservation well in advance. Highlights (that I can spell) were the shrimp toast, goat meat potstickers, smoked blueberry wonton soup, peking duck and we tried other chef specialities that were great as well but I cannot spell.

I am a huge fan of little goat and girl and the goat. I have lost track of how many times I've been to little goat. There was one summer where everyone who worked there seemed to recognize me. I had high, high expectations for duck duck goat. The positives: decor, cocktails, friendly service. I'm sorry to say I found the food to be-- Meh. We ordered a ton of plates and at least three came put immediately and together. It was awkward since I was dining with just my husband. Felt compelled to eat quickly just to have some space at the table. Duck hearts were not good, sorry. The noodle dish, pork, and pekan chicken we had were my faves. And it wasn't that they weren't good. They were. They weren't great. I had such high hopes I think that colored my experience.

Another big hit for Stephanie Izard. Service is impeccable. Every person who walks past your table, pays attention to you. Even if they are not your waitperson. Filling your water glass, removing plates, just a tremendous team effort. Food was excellent. Ordered 6 dishes. The soup dumplings were excellent. Not much soup, but excellent nonetheless. The duck hearts were awesome. Cooked perfectly with no overpowering marinades. Next was the octopus salad. Octopus was spot on, and the whole dish just comes together. The only apparent miscue was the duck eggroll. The filling is just terriffic, but the 'wrapper' is very similar to a corndog. This is the only dish that we would not order again. Next up were the slap noodles. This was the best dish of the evening. Noodles are perfect, goat and shrimp were delicious and the mushrooms were not overpowering. Finally, the shrimp in black bean sauce. Very, very good. Couple of other things. This place is LOUD!!! VERY, VERY LOUD!!! Talking across the table was very difficult. Do not even think of coming here without a reservation, which we made 3 months in advance. We have already made our next reservations.....for 3 months from now. All in all another big hit for Stephanie and for Chicago.

My husband and I had 48 hours in Chicago and booked a table at Girl & the Goat weeks in advance. After being so impressed with the food, staff and style of G&TG our kind and enthusiastic waiter recommended we try Duck, Duck, Goat. Described as reasonably authentic Chinese, we were in right away. My husband was born in China, and we would like to think we are foodies (where time and budget allow), so expectations were pretty high. WE HAD A BLAST! The décor was my fantasy spin on everything I saw and loved as a westerner visiting China. The food was fantastic because there was a little twist in every dish. If you like Chinese food (or even American Chinese food), this place will easily fill your belly and make you smile.

We were escorted to the 'lounge' in the back which is essentially a babysitting area with a bar for people to wait in until their table is ready. We were scheduled for 8pm and were not seated until 8:30. As this restaurant is part of a larger group, I expected that reservations would have been honored in a timely manner. I think part of this is a ploy to get diners to order drinks before dinner as an upsell technique. At the very least once we were seated Austin was very nice (albeit a bit slow at first) and I presume the free short rib dumplings we received at the end of our meal were a consolation that I will not complain about.\n\nAll the food was AWESOME let me tell you. Our favorite was the hot and sour soup that could have easily been split between 4 people for a good taste. The crab rangoons were pretty good and the dan dan noodles were perfectly spiced with the shichuan peppercorn and the noodles were very very good. Even with the slow downs, I would recommend this place in a heart beat! Wish I lived in the city so I could go back to try more dishes.

We had made a reservation a few months ahead of time. I had also written on the reservation that it was a birthday. After they called to confirm, I called back reminding them again that it was a birthday. When we got there, we had to wait over 35 minutes for our table (even with our 9:45PM reservation). I had to ask the hostess when our table would be ready. \n\nOnce we got to the table the server was nice, and the food was good. I would have to say our overall experience was really not as great as it could have been do to all of the waiting and the real lack of care for our wait. In conclusion, they did not even mention the birthday at all.

This was my second visit to Duck Duck Goat - first coming with my boyfriend in June and we enjoyed ourselves so much we promptly went home and made a reservation for 6 people for September so we could bring friends (and try more dishes!) \n\nThe food was amazing and the plates are the right sized portions so that everyone can try all the dishes. The beef and bone marrow potstickers were melt in your mouth delicious and the twice grilled pork was perfectly smoky. \n\nThe only tarnish on this visit was the wait time to be seated. The first couple arrived early and checked in for our 7:30pm reservation. The remaining 4 people arrived 5 minutes later (just about 7:30pm) and checked in as well. 30 minutes later we were still waiting in the bar and I went to check on the status only to be told our 'party was incomplete'. Not the case! We'd all been there since 7:30pm. Didn't get us off on the best start, but the food was wonderful!

I took my friend here for his Birthday. I had the Vegetarian Egg Rolls and the Glass noodles with roasted blueberries and mushrooms. Both were so delicious and I've been craving them ever since we were there two weeks ago. My dates dinner was most likely delicious but not so for him. Both his soup and his entree were quite spicy/hot. He had told our server he cannot eat spicy/hot nor onions and both items he ordered were exactly this! Obviously she needs to get more familiar with their menu offerings. The decor was interesting and fun to analyze and overall we enjoyed to cheerful, fun and lively atmosphere. \nOne other note: It is almost impossible to get a reservation here or change the time I snagged when Duck Duck Goats opening was first announced--yet there were many open tables the entire time we were there?

Fab food in fun atmosphere. We had 9 dishes for five of us, including dessert. It was one too many, though one was a comp. Of the nine, I'd rate 6 an A. Soooo good. Especially loved the dumplings, shrimp toast and noodle dishes. Least favorite and most expensive was the fish special. Because you share a lot of dishes, it's a pretty good value for the quality.\n\nOnly down note of the evening was the overpriced valet. $14 for three hours (fine) and a whopping $28 for four. We were there just a tad over four hours because part of our party got there early for drinks. That's a ridiculous sum for an extra 15 minutes and left a bad taste in our mouth.

I cannot express how satisfied I was with my experience here. I made a reservation for 4, for an early after work dinner with a few coworkers. Reservations were easier than I anticipated (being months out for Girl & the Goat), only taking a week (granted a 5pm reservation was the only one left).\n\nBeing Vegan, you wouldn't think I would enjoy a goat-centric place as much as I did, but the vegan/veg menu did not disappoint. To start we got the vegan version of JIAZO, with Mushrooms and Leaks, and the scallion pancake (vegetarian). I used the sauce from the scallion pancake with the dumpling and it was a perfect marriage. The mushrooms were ground up which resembled a meat texture.\n\nI split a few vegetarian items with someone, then the other two split a few meat dishes. I think this is the best way to go so you can try more, and believe me, you're going to want to try everything. We first got the (vegan/vegetarian) MAPO DOUFU, with SICHUAN POTATOS instead of WHITE RICE. The MAPO was delicious, I have never had this dish before. It was served with THE BEST mushrooms and spicy peppers, a very large portion, more than enough for two. The potatoes were a nice addition, a little sweeter.... But the game changer, I mean, making the list of best thing I've every ate were the vegetable glass noodles. I almost forewent this dish because the server talked up the Mapo Doufu so much but when me and my friend decided to split dishes we made a game time decision.\n\nSo when I though glass noodles, I though Korean style thing stringy noodles. These were thick, smooth noodles, similar to drunken noodles, but with a light, velvet texture... The vegetables included mushrooms, snap peas, corn, and the kicker... blueberries. I am not exaggerating when I say these noodles are CRACK. I actually couldn't stop eating them. When it came to splitting leftovers I opted for the 1/4 cup glass noodles and gave the rest away.

Visited on a Monday night, and it was considerably lively. My party was a party of two, and so we ordered 4 plates to share--bbq bao, duck fried rice, lo mein, and sichuan potatoes--plus a cocktail. Everything was quite good, though perhaps I was expecting a little more---I'd go back with a larger group in order to sample a little bit of more things. I can't speak to the authenticity of the food (though I love the cheeky 'reasonably authentic' tagline), but the decor was beautiful and saturated (and of course heavily branded).

The service was fantastic! We got lost on the way to the restaurant, and the staff still held our table (with a time limit which was reasonable). The restaurant has a lovely patio, so we sat outside to enjoy the last days of summer. The food was fine. The ham sui gok (rice dumplings with goat) were perfectly fried and fantastic, but everything else we had - goat fried rice, glass noodles, scallion pancakes, sichuan potato - were just 'okay'. Maybe we didn't order the right items, given that we had a vegetarian in our group. For the price and prestige of Duck Duck Goat, I was hoping for some 'wow!' dishes, but their menu does say 'reasonably authentic Chinese food', and that's what we got, so everything was as advertised. I would go back for drinks and appetizers but likely not for a full meal again.

In true fashion, Stephanie Izard has done it again. Duck Duck Goat was an amazing experience. I went with a group of four for Fathers Day brunch. The menu was classic dim sum style with an eclectic variety of interesting and tasty foods. We went out on a limb and ordered the duck tongues which were surprisingly wonderful. Everything on the menu was fabulous except sadly the Peking Duck! The skin was barely crispy but most of all the pancakes - unless you took them out of the bamboo basket as soon as it arrived at the table - dried up to the texture of paper. Too bad they weren't served in a way to keep them moist and pliable, because the meat itself was to die for! And the fixings - awesome. The service was a little inattentive but it was super busy. We're easy, it's Sunday morning, totally understand that policy but the restaurant was empty. We were lead into the beautiful emerald green 'cocktail lounge' with a chic little bar to wait. Cool, we love cocktails! Sadly no one brought us a cocktail menu or even asked us if we wanted one, no one was to be found. We felt like we were just dumped there. Finally the other two in our party arrived, we were sat and ordered a bunch of great dishes. We expected more of a fusion or creative take on Chinese dishes, but these were pretty much like standard Chinese dishes from Chinatown. Our reservation was for 5 people, but my grandmother could not make it to my graduation celebration, so it became just 4.....shouldn't have been a big deal, only 1 less person. Unfortunately that was not the case. As they were about to seat us and we mentioned that we only had 4 people, the hostess stopped in her tracks and said she could not seat us bc we only a party of 4 and they wood have to find another table for us. All of this for only 1 less person! We ended up waiting for an additional half an hour to be seated, after we were there on time and about to be seated at our five top. Service ended up being great, as was the food. By the front of house experience to start off the night really put a negative tone on the experience.

I would recommend this restaurant BUT I was disappointed with the wait. We got there about 15 minutes before our reservation so I was obviously expecting to wait. But we waiting about 35 past our reservation time. This wouldn't have been as big of a deal if there was a larger area to wait. The waiting lounge is very small. It was cramped and hot and everyone that was escorted to it to wait looked shocked. We ended up waiting in the hallway. I would think a larger area would have been set aside for waiting customers as it would be assumed that this would be a very busy restaurant. Once we got to our table the service was very good. Waiter was helpful and friendly. Food was brought out quickly. Ordered 4 dished between my boyfriend and I and was happy with all of them. We were brought the wrong chicken dish and we didn't realize it. Once the waiter realized it and the correct one was brought over he had the extra dish wrapped up for us (since we didn't know it was the wrong one we started eating it). The food made up for the long, awkward wait, but I hope they do something about the lounge.

I love Girl and the Goat as well as Little Goat. I was excited to try Duck Duck Goat. The decor in every room was a nice representation of different Chinese styles. The service was great, we asked several waiters for their recommendation and if there was a must try dish or a dish that the restaurant was known for. We had several recommendations but no one must try dish. The food was lacking. The portions are ment to be shared which allowed for several dishes. The flavor was absent, Chinese food is typically very flavorful, the dishes we had were all very bland. On some of the dishes there was a pickled hot pepper relish, it was good but once it was gone the dishes had no flavor. We tried the Concord ice for dessert, save your money it was a high end grape snow cone.

I'm in love with Duck Duck Goat. I'm in love so much that I've dined here 3 times (twice for dim sum, once for dinner) and will be returning for my birthday in a couple of weeks with my family. The food is outstanding. The service is exactly what you expect from an Izard restaurant - incredibly knowledgeable and kind. If you're going for dim sum, please order the bao buns and green beans. If you're going for dinner, order all the chicken things. All of them! You won't be disappointed.

If you haven't noticed I'm a huge Stephanie fan, I always stop at one of her places when I'm in town. She has yet again done and amazing job opening this place up! I wasn't 100% sure when she first talked about this place, but I've watched the process and fell quickly in love. And the was blown away by the food she produced. The dishes are unique to this place but made me think about when my grandma used to cook for me as a kid, which I think says a lot. I would suggest getting anything and everything on the menu, you really just can't go wrong with this place, I can't wait to go back.

I lived in China for 5 years and have not been particularly impressed with Chicago's Chinese offerings - until going to DDG. The soup dumplings are the best I've had in the city (skin is properly thin) and the dishes are either spot on like I had in China or inventive in a way that makes them their own but still delicious. The menu says 'reasonably authentic Chinese' and it's just that. Make sure to order: xiao long bao, jiaozi, slap noodles and hongshao rou and wash it down with a Tsingtao beer. Our server was great (all the staff were very friendly) and we loved the ambiance/decor. Can't go wrong with an outing to one of the Goats in town!

Expensive and bland. \nThe goat egg rolls were good. Everything else seemed to lack flavor. The slap noodles with beef were not warmed properly. We had a shrimp dish that tasted like nothing and the soup dumplings also were without character. \nI have had great Chinese in Chinatown and fancy Chinese in Beverly Hills. Duck duck goat seems to be neither. \nOh and they have a whiskey cocktail that is duck fat infused. Skip this! I wondered if it was some sort of dare that they came up with a drink with fat floating in it. Jokes on me.

Anyone looking for authentic chinese food -- look elsewhere. While they claim to be 'reasonably authentic' it's more like they took traditional chinese/chinese-influenced dishes and tried to make them more appealing to the mainstream diner while also increasing the price point by several multiples. If you want something actually authentic, venture out of your comfort zone, because this white-washed attempt shouldn't be where you go.

I'll go back to Little Goat Diner for the food, menu and prices. The noise level is the same in both places.

WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT. After waiting two months for a reservation & after all the press excitement. , I can't remember a restaurant that delivered such mediocre food at ginned up prices & hype. . As is the pattern at all Izzard places , they want you to over order. We didn't fall for it this time. The potstickers were dried out ,suggesting they sat around under the heat lamp too long. The moo she wrappers, likewise They were probably put in that little box a day before. We would never had ordered the second round if we had known the first would taste like cardboard wrapped around mush. Two of the main dishes tasted exactly the same despite different names. The noodles were also either dried out or under cooked. The servers (but not the order taker) unceremoniously plopped the food down like robots. Interestingly enough, our dining partners went along for a second try despite being disappointed, the first time, thinking it was a fluke. We all agreed we had eaten better Asan food for 1/3rd the price almost everywhere. We won't be back & will tell our friends 'don't bother'.

Really enjoyed the food - a different spin on dim sum. We were there during lunch/brunch time on the weekend (abbreviated menu) and tried various dishes that had goat instead of the traditional pork. Tried the slap noodles (chow fun) with goat sausage, duck eggrolls, hom sui gok with goat filling, and scallion pancakes. Fun and interesting flavors. Loved the decor - it was fun looking around at the different seating areas. \n\nThe only downside was the service. It took a while for the server to come around. She took our drink order and we kept looking around for her to come back so we could place our order. The supporting staff bringing out the dishes and clearing items - they were great. After not coming around at the beginning, as we were approaching the second half of our meal, our server kept coming over asking if we were done. It felt as though we were being rushed out. I really hope it was just her and not reflective of the staff or the restaurant's service mantra.\n\nWill still go back to try the different interesting dishes, but hopefully will have a different server.

We are foodies and wanted to dine at one of Stepahanie's restaurants during a recent girls trip to Chicago. We chose Duck, Duck Goat and were happy we did. The decor is amazing! A lot of thought and attention went into creating this dining experience. the feel is modern and trendy with a nod to Chinatown street vendors. It's hard to describe, so I recommend seeing for yourself!\nWe started with the bone marrow dumplings and veggie egg rolls. Both were flavorful and just enough to wake up the palate. The egg rolls were full of fresh seasonal veggies such as mushrooms and sweet corn, a far cry from your typical cabbage heavy versions. \nWe then moved on to entrees of Slap Noodles with goat sausage and shrimp and the wood fired beef with broccoli. The slap noodles stole the show! They were think and chewy- but in the best way possible! We've never had anything like it! Paired with flavorful sausage, tender shrimp and veggies, this dish was full of complex flavor and textures. \nThe beef with broccoli was anything but typical as well. Normally my go-to staple, I was pleasantly surprised at how the dish was elevated from typical to outstanding. The beef was melt in you mouth tender and we could taste the smoke from the fire. \nThe service was knowledgeable and attentive and we appreciated a visit from the manager to ensure we had a good experience. \nLike many restaurants, they use banquette seating which means that you sit VERY close to the table next to you. We hate this trend as it eliminates any privacy and makes it very difficult to get in and out of your seat without disrupting those next to you. \nWe look forward to our next Chicago trip to try other items on the menu!

We really loved our experience at Duck Duck Goat. The atmosphere was charming. The dining area was divided into about three rooms - each with a slightly different décor. We sat in a nice nook by a window where we felt as if we could privately converse while also enjoying the view of everyone else.\n\nOur server Sarah was really lovely. She seemed genuinely kind and I LOVED how informed she was about EVERYTHING. She could expertly describe the sensations of the spices in your mouth, Stephanie Izard's journey to opening Duck Duck Goat, and many menu items. It was incredible.\n\nOur food was delicious. My wife said that the vegetable fried rice was the best she's ever had in her entire life. I also liked trying all of the many kinds of dumplings, bao and other dim sum items. I further enjoyed my cocktails.\n\nWe observed that some people were at the restaurant for a special occasion (like us), others were there with small children for a regular dinner, and others were there for a quick bite. It seemed as if the restaurant was welcoming to everybody.

Too bad they didn't give you scallions with the sauces. 3-cup chicken and chongqing chicken were both excellent - tho the table favorited the latter. Beef slap noodles were much better than XO Cheong fun. Pickled cucumber and garlic pea pods were both traditionally prepared. Scallion pancakes and potstickers were good to share. The only one minor disappointment was the xiao long bao - it was trying to hard to the point you had conflicting flavours. (I can think of two other places with better dumplings). BEST Chinese food I've ever had (WAY better than what you'll find in Chinatown). Their Mapo Doufo was fantastic and just enough heat. Their pineapple dessert was the icing on the cake to a good meal. The only thing I can see wrong is the parking (which is non-existent in the Fulton Market area)

Got to try Duck Duck Goat and it did not disappoint. The Pekin Duck was the best duck flavor-wise I've had- even better than Sun Wah, even though you don't get duck fried rice or duck soup with it. The Sesame chicken seems like a pedestrian order but was delicious. The octopus salad stood out, as did any dish with the house-made noodles. The few cocktails we tried we just okay. I had just been to GreenRiver, so my bar was set pretty high on that front and they didn't meet it. I'll definitely be back.

Obviously not a traditional Chinese restaurant while most of the dishes are very novel. It could be a great thing for many people, but personally I can't really accept the blueberry+tomato flavor Wanton, nor the incompletely cooked duck heart. The fermented vegetable was horrible but the waiter was nice enough to get that cancelled. Eggplant dishes was just ok. \n\nThe duck fried rice was nice, and the broccoli beef should be a must-try. The beef was super tender while the broccoli was slight grilled and maintained a crispy texture. I asked for light amount of salt for my last two dishes, so only the last two dishes were perfectly salted.

Big thumbs up on the scallion pancakes, Dan Dan noodles, both the veggie and seafood fried rice, and pecan chicken. The food was delicious. Our table particularly enjoyed the pork fried rice and silver needle noodles with clams and bacon. The service was outstanding. With three of the five at our table observing a GF diet it was great to see a Celiac friendly menu (I hope they post it on their website.) The only problem we had was the many emails it took to coordinate a reservation for a party of 9. Making a reservation really shouldn't be that difficult. We ended up being separated into two tables, which we initially agreed to, but we wish that we would have all been squeezed in at one of the round tables. It may have been a tight squeeze, but it would have made for a better evening for all. We also had one ordering misunderstanding and we didn't get the order of Forbidden Goat until we were finished with dessert so we ended up taking it to go. It was good as leftovers, but I feel that it would have been even better fresh.

And later 'can you Have our waitress come back?' And our string beans arrived at the end of the meal. Delicious! Best dish. But we had no interest in a dessert course of beans.... They were a side--should have come with or between the entrees. None of the wow or deliciousness factor of Girl & the Goat. Great decor. They were out of the pisco to make the cocktail I ordered. We were seated almost immediately (big plus in my book) and while the tables were close together, they were just separated enough not to be distracting. We tried a dish from each category - starters, small plates, rice, entrees, sides. Everything was delicious - beef slap noodles and the pork belly were absolutely amazing. The server was attentive without being annoying, but as per usual with craft cocktails, both rounds of drinks took a long time to arrive after we ordered them. Ultimately, a disappointing visit although the quality of the drinks and food were great. The waitress recommended FAR too much food for two people as the portions were quite generous. However, most dishes were reasonably priced so this would have been less of an issue if several dishes were brought at the same time and we were able to try a little of each. Instead, they dragged out each dish for at least 20-30 minutes leaving us very full after only trying 3 of the 5 dishes we ordered! In the future, I hope they work on their pacing and recommendations to diners.

Very disappointed by Duck Duck Goat. Our reservation was at 6:45 and we weren't seated until 7:35. They apparently had a problem with the A/C, but didn't bother to notify people with reservations. They use a back bar area as a waiting room that can comfortably hold 10-12 people and there were around 30 packed in, which, together with the A/C problem, was a disgusting atmosphere. We never received an apology for the wait. Sadly, the food was just ok and didn't save the night. The bone marrow and short rib dumplings were tasty, but everything else left quite a bit to be desired. The duck egg roll was fairly good, but duck itself was a bit overcooked. The slap noodles with goat sausage and the duck fried rice lacked flavor. I didn't enjoy the numbing effect of the chongqing chicken and the sauce provided to spice up the dish (that the waitress described as 'buffalo') was gross.

We were lucky enough to get an early reservation for the highly anticipated third Stephanie Izard restaurant and it did not disappoint. Every dish was very flavorful and had great spice/sweetness based on the dish. We tried to enjoy one item from each menu subcategory. The crab soup dumplings were piping hot and had great flavor with the crab meat and broth in the dumpling. The duck fried rice with the duck cracklings and a duck egg were delicious and highly recommended. The garlic pea shoots and ramps were a great garlicky palate cleanser from all the rich food and were appreciated. The beef slap noodles were phenomenal. The noodles were long, chewy and freshly made and the ragu of beef throughout, I could have eaten that for days. The red braised pork had thick meaty chunks of pork belly with a good balance of fat to meat as well as skin. The entire dish was covered in a sticky sweet hoisin based sauce that complemented the meat but was a little overdone in it's amount. Finally, the Sichuan-style chicken with chilis was a hot and spicy end to the meal. Beware of the two types of peppers if you are not use to heat as Sichuan peppers will literally nub the inside of your mouth due to their heat so beware. If you like good heat and spice along with your chicken that is not overdone to cancel out the flavor of the food, this is your dish. All in all it was worth the wait and hype to try and as is mentioned on the menu...it is reasonably authentic. We enjoyed every gluttonous minute touring through numerous parts of Asia.

It hurts me to write this review esp bc it's Ms Izzard. \nHere's the lowdown, came here for dim sum and I came out bloated from all the sodium and parched for water. \nThe food is overly salty and greasy so if you're into that type of food, this is the place. Had 6 dishes and the best thing was probably the scallion pancakes (still oily but not to the degree of the other dishes). \nAmbiance, space (love the space between tables unlike girl and the goat) and service were lovely. \nWarning; the food takes a long time to come out. And if one dish comes out too soon, you know it's because it was already sitting in the steamer. Which happened to our char bao, it was overly steamed and soggy. \nSoup dumplings are by far the worst I've ever had in my life. It was pure soy sauce broth. Blech. I had the waitress take it back because it was that horrible. Never done that before. \nGo to Lao Sze Chuan for dim sum. Or Phoenix. Even Imperial Lamian was better (which isn't saying much considering the lack of variety of their menu)

The food is excellent. Like Girl and the Goat, this is one of the hot spots in the city. It is crowded and very noisy. The staff is well trained and the food is wonderful. The blends of seasonings are delughtful. My one complaint lies in the inability of the kitchen to accommodate certain food restrictions. For example, my family and I do not eat pork. There are many pork dishes and only 1 or 2 of them could be made without pork. For example, they serve mu shu pork. We were told that the kitchen could not serve the dish as mu shu chicken. This immediately excluded this and many oher dishes from the menu for us. While we certainly enjoyed the dishes we had, it would be nice if they could accommodate minor changes such as those we requested.

The interior of Duck Duck Goat is heavily concept driven and looks great. The food was solid but nothing blew us away. The Shrimp Toast was the best thing we had. Slap noodles were good and so was the Seafood Fried Rice but neither were that much better than anything you can get in China Town in Chicago or in other cities with larger Chinese populations. The noodles were a bit doughy and the rice was underdone. They call their style Creative Chinese and it was a bit creative but execution of solid simple Chinese dishes was sometimes subpar. Not at all impressive. Good for a young crowd who really doesn't know good food but can be impressed by ingredients unfamiliar to them. I am from Asia and had a wide variety and versions of food across the region and I think two meat balls in a bowl of soy sauce with shredded cabbage is not much of a Lion Head dimsum soup. The food is either salty or tasteless. The Pig Face has the worst dough, the Duck Egg Roll doesn't taste anything, and the spare ribs with bone morrow dumpling is salty. Asian food might not be the most sophisticated but it cannot just be modified in order to impress the market regardless of outcome.

The restaurant was good and had many inventive dishes. \n\nCertain dishes lacked finesse, though, and were needlessly heavy like the noodles. \n\nBeef and broccoli was greatly prepared but the sauce and seasoning composition tasted very westernized. \n\nThe spicy Szechuan chicken was wayy too salty. \n\nPork buns were great and so were the egg rolls. Accompanying sauces for each were strange though. For the pork buns there were no sauces. For the egg roll a bland and strange aioli and another sweet sauce. Both sauces were awful and wouldn't have been great at a western restaurant or Asian \n\nI find this restaurant to be great in terms of ambiance and cocktails. The food is really overrated though and the authenticity of some dishes were spanked out of them. It's important when executing fusion that component parts hold their own by their heritage. A few dishes here fell very flat due to the inability to properly extract each Heritage properly and have them meld together. \n\nI love this restaurant though and see a lot of room for improvement hence the rare review from me.

With the number of Asian food options available in Chicago, the bar of expectations is raised when you tie a name like Stephanie Izard to it. The food was tasty, but forgettable. Small mishaps - like having a delectable sauce but no means of sopping it up (noodles, rice) or soup dumplings that expel before getting to the table -- these are below the bar standards. While the food and our service (all our apps came out at once and we had to request the service to slow down / server could not describe flavors adequately) were below par, the ambience is gorgeous. Would give it another go, only because it's GOAT!

Since this restaurant is so popular (they open at 4:30, and by 5:00 there wasn't an empty table) we had to try it.\nThey have some interesting dishes (try the lionhead meatball soup), which make the experience a very enjoyable one. Since all dishes are supposed to be shared, you get to try about 4 to 5 dishes at a table for 2 (depends on how much you can eat...). But do know that the dishes are not very small...\nService was very good.

Second time going to Duck Duck Goat and again, the food was great and the service was bad. From the hostess to the bartender to our server, everyone seemed pained to be there and entirely uninterested in taking our drink or food orders. We brought friends with us this time and the consensus was the same- we loved the food and wondered why the service was such a departure from everything else. Will be a great option for takeout when they start that.

The food was good and some dishes were unique takes on Asian cuisine however nothing spectacular. Waiting for a Peking Duck for nearly 90 minutes is just unacceptable and the duck was just ok. The bartender/server did however send multiple complimentary appetizers which we appreciated however by the time the duck arrived we were barely hungry after so many appetizers.

Love Stephanie Izard and the Girl and the Goat, but this place left me unsatisfied. The forbidden goat rice was very good, and so were the shrimp and peanut dumplings, but I wasn't blown away. On the downside, the green beans were too salty, and the chicken was good, but all of the spices overwhelmed the senses a little too much. To top it all off, the service staff/kitchen forgot one of our entree dishes (the eggplant and goat), which I was really looking forward to trying. Overall, I think this place needs work.

First time dining here. Had been to little goat and girl and the goat before so I was excited to try. I went during the early afternoon and had their dim sum. Overall, the food was okay. The char siu baos were ok, definitely could tell the pork was better quality than in Chinatown. But together with the bun, it just didn't hit the spot for my taste buds. The xiao long baos (soup dumplings) were probably the worst I've had from anywhere. it came flattened, was stuck to paper, and the meat and soup inside weren't being as flavorful as other restaurants. The duck egg rolls were my boyfriend's favorite. I liked the beef slap noodles. It was very rich and decadent and probably the highlight of everything else. \n\nWill I go back? I will give them the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe I ordered the wrong dishes. The duck fried rice sounds delicious and maybe they'll win me over next time.

We have finally completed the Stephanie Izard trifecta! Let me tell you, it didn't disappoint. I took my boyfriend here to celebrate his 30th birthday. We decided to get a hodge-podge from the menu, a few of my picks and a few of his. I would highly recommend the duck fried rice. Duck egg was cooked perfectly and it was just over-all delicious. Woodfired Char Siu Ribs were also really good (recommend if you are a big rib fan like my boyfriend). \n\nThere's so much we wanted to try but couldn't since it was just the two of us... we hope to be back before Summer is over!

Excellent meal -- fantastic flavors and friendly service. I enjoyed it more than Girl & The Goat. The portions were quite large for the prices, so we felt like we could order many options, including the duck hearts, xiao long bao (better than many in Shanghai, although they are also like $1 for 6 in Shanghai), noodle rolls with cuttlefish (my favorite dish), and red braised pork. The pineapple cake dessert is a must-get, and the cocktail with the duck fat-washed bourbon and plum flavors is a new favorite. Highly recommended.

Terrible service and overrated food. We ordered the beef slap noodles, pork fried rice, and the chicken. The noodles were pretty good, but nothing note worthy. The fried rice was way too greasy and almost too salty to eat. The chicken was deep fried and so hot you could not taste it. Our waitress became offended when she could tell we did not enjoy the chicken dish. Her demeanor completely changed, and she did not bring us the cookies the other tables received at the end of the meal. My experience at duck duck goat was truly a let down, because I was very excited for the meal and had high expectations. I would not recommend this restaurant, and I will not be returning.

I made our reservation for duck duck goat when the restaurant first opened months ago. The earliest I could get a table for two at a reasonable dinner time was just a few days ago on Wednesday 6/8. We arrived right at 7:45PM for our 7:45 reservation for two. The table wasn't ready and we were told we would just be waiting for a table to be cleared. We were escorted to the 'cocktail lounge' which was a small room with a 5 foot long bar. The room was crowded and we couldn't even get to the bar for a drink. We waited a while and finally saw an opening at the bar and ordered some drinks to sip on while we wait. At about 8:30 (45 minutes after our reserved time) we were texted to return to the host stand and finally seated around 8:35-8:40. We received no thanks for waiting and when we got to the table we were given the rundown on recommended dishes to order. We got four plates: crab Rangoon, scallion pancakes, beef and broccoli, and seafood fried rice for the two of us. The Rangoon filling had a horrible consistency - very runny. Scallion pancakes and beef and broccoli were good. Seafood fried rice was OK. Overall wasn't worth the high prices or the two month long wait to get a table and then the subsequent 45min to an hour wait at the restaurant. It's a shame because we went to girl and the goat about 9 months ago and had a fantastic experience with both service and food. I'd recommend skipping duck duck goat and booking girl and the goat instead.

For an Izard restaurant, this was truly disappointing and certainly not worth booking a reservation months in advance. Dim sum and the slap noodles/fried rice were very salty, though not necessarily terrible. I would expect more from a chef the level of Izard. The best part of the meal was the dessert (pineapple cake).\n\n The bigger issue is with service. Our server seemed aloof. She never stopped by to ask if we wanted another drink or to check in with how our meal was. Everything was brought out all at once (which is perhaps just how they do it here), but it made the experience feel rushed. I did not feel welcome. Walking in the restaurant it is beautiful. We were taken back to the bar area which was very cute we spoke with the GM while we waited for our drinks, I told him we were there for my birthday. Cocktails were delicious. Once we got to our table we took the advice of our server and ordered a bunch of different food and my husband told her it was my birthday. The shrimp toast was not authentic, it was covered in mayo, the xiao long bao was disappointing, the slap noodles were amazing but the sauce overpowered them. The dan dan noodles were very good but had way too much meat. We got the hongshao rou and it was 1/3 meat and the rest fat (which some people would love but I'm not a fan of that much fat) The sauce was very strong and definitely needed rice. When we asked our server for rice she told us 'yeah I agree that dish definitely needs rice' but when we ordered it she never suggested we order rice. When we were done with our meal I was hoping for the birthday treat that I had seen someone earlier get but sadly I was disappointed. I have been having Dim Sum and Chinese food all my life in LA, New York, San Francisco, etc. The food was on par with not just a dim sum-like menu but various Chinese cuisine like Peking Duck Crepes, Sichuan Eggplant, etc. Also, sometimes, the menu can be too extensive but this was perfect. I think the chef did an amazing job of picking the signature dishes that can be cooked to precision instead of overloading it with various things. I thought the Char Siu Bao was amazing because the bread was perfect to the Hong Kong white bread. Xiao Long Bao was great. Was impressed by the Sichuan Eggplant...loved the chef's spin on the traditional hot garlic sauce. I cannot say enough about this place. \n\nAlso, don't know how the restaurant knew but got a birthday treat. No one in my party said anything to the restaurant because already had a celebration the night before. All the dishes were great, but our favorites were the eggplant, peking duck, goat ribs, and soup dumplings

Just perfect! Excellent selections of Chinese gone wild, and plenty of goat options to boot. The special goat belly with mandarin pancakes was a huge hit and the beef short rib and bone marrow potstickers are equally unreal.

When I first heard of the restaurant and see that it's by the renown Stephanie Izard, I decided to book it for our friend's birthday dinner. Duck Duck Goat definitely did not disappoint! On entering, I instantly noticed that the restaurant very much resembles restaurants in China and the China market vibes. The decorations were beautiful and ambience inviting. We ordered around 10 dishes to share between 7 of us and it was perfect! The dishes all come in a good portion (you could say Asian portion) while allow us to try many things on the menu. Our favorite were the dumpling dish and the Duck Fried Rice. The other dishes were also outstanding. To add also, the music list was great! It matches the ambience and the vibe of the restaurant. Overall, absolutely amazing experience for an affordable value!

I'm a huge fan of Girl and the Goat, but was frankly disappointed by my experience at Duck Duck Goat. We ordered a total of six different dishes and most of them did not live up to my expectations. The crab rangoons were too bready and fishy (or crabby), the chicken chow fun was okay but the noodles tasted funny, the pork fried rice was very greasy. The cocktails were excellent and the service was too. The other complaint is the seating. Tables packed extremely tightly and having to sit on a low, backless stool was uncomfortable. Perhaps there are some kinks being worked out given how new the restaurant is, but after this experience, I'd rather just go to Girl and the Goat where a good meal is a guarantee.

Having just gotten back from a trip to China, I had good Chinese food on the mind. Duck Duck Goat was a great way to continue my China vacation. The tagline --reasonably authentic Chinese food-- is playful and on point. There are some dishes that are not the traditional standard (e.g., the Shui Zhu Yu), but it was still a good, refreshing, and flavorful take on the dish. My favorite were probably the Xiao Long Bao, which had a fantastic flavor infused into the bun. Other notables were the eggplant and goat sausage. My partner really enjoyed the Ham Sui Gok, which I felt was good, but fairly typical Asian fare. Dessert (the sweet potato ice cream with waffle) was also a great treat; a nice low and slow heat to a dessert dish that you don't normally find.

The space is very cool lots of action in all the different rooms. My duck fried rice with the egg was perfection as well as the duck hearts. We also enjoyed the pot stickers and our noodle dish.

Walking into Duck Duck Goat, I right away loved the ambiance. The colors were bright crimsons with decorative lanterns and tassels hanging throughout. The music was upbeat and created an amazing energy that made you want to stay longer. The food was extremely flavorful. I did not love the potato dish. The dumplings were amazing. The eggplant and goat sausage is a little deceiving, I expected more goat in the dish, but overall it was great.

Absolutely delicious! It was hard to pick just a few things because we wanted to order everything, but all of our dishes were so unique. From the frog legs to the duck egg roll, all the way to the sweet potato ice cream dessert.

We absolutely loved everything we ate! I would recommend going with a larger group so that you can order more food! For apps the soup dumplings, ribs and the crab Rangoon were amazing. I wouldn't do the egg roll again it was just ok. For mains the duck fried rice is the best fried rice any of us had ever had. The octopus cucumber and peanut salad was amazing as were the beef slap noodles, silver noodles and cheong fung xo (this was the favorite at the table). The green beans were also really good and Todd and my brother in law thought the chongqing chicken was the best thing we ate all night. Honestly the food was all delicious! If you save room for dessert, the sweet potato ice cream on the waffle was surprisingly amazing. I would eat here every day if I could!
