About Girl & the Goat

Girl & the Goat opened in 2010 with the goal of serving a family style menu of tasty, bold flavored foods in a fun and lively setting. To enhance the experience we offer a selection of wines from around the world with a focus on small producers, a rotating list of craft beers, and a list of fun cocktails created by our bartenders.

Located at 809 W Randolph, Girl & the Goat was one of the first establishments in the Randolph Restaurant Corridor. We offer a variety of seating choices, including a comfortable lounge, bar seats, standard table seating, and four seats close enough to the kitchen line that you might be asked to help. Girl & the Goat accepts reservations but always welcomes walk-ins, nomads, adventurers, and those of you who don’t like to plan.

Great food and exceptional service. Wait staff were so attentive. Had the cauliflower (our favorite), goat empanadas (okay), wood fired shrimp (amazing), and pork bucatini (would have been great if it weren't soooo salty). Overall we loved it even though the saltiness of the pasta was a bad note to end on. Would definitely go back again.

I was in town visiting and was told I have to try 'Girl & the Goat.' The food was delicious and so were the drinks but the service and staff was not impressive. We had the option of picking reservations from 1015-1045. The hostess was slightly clueless. Seemed as if she was just trying to fit everyone in one area when there was open tables throughout the restaurant. Tables were about 1-2 feet apart. While enjoying our meal (still didn't receive all of our food yet;) we were asked at 1045pm if we wanted another drink because the bar would be closing. The meal felt very rushed from that point on. The manager even turned off the music and turned up the lights around 11pm. There was still plenty of people in the restaurant. Our waiter was cleaning a table (1-2 feet from us!!) and as he is cleaning he proceeded to ask us if we wanted to dessert. We were both very unsettled by that and turned it down. He also gave my friend the wrong drink twice.\n\nFood was delicious but staff did not compare.

Thank you to The Girl and the The Goat staff for fitting us in early despite our later reservation at 7:30pm. This was the first time to your restaurant and we would love to come back. We enjoyed trying various dishes (were ordered about 10). Everyone who served us was friendly and made celebrating my husband's birthday extra special.

This was our second time to the restaurant. The first time we went, I would have given 5 stars on every category. This time the quality of the food was questionable. My salad had pieces of lettuce the size of my hand and was also missing ingredients. We ate kind of late, so maybe the quality goes down as the night goes on. They also need to change up their menu more...the format is weird...it feels like you are eating appetizers all night. They also bring the food out randomly...not in a logical order. I would come back though...the first time we went it was great.

I absolutely loved Girl & The Goat. I had a special occasion dinner there 3 years ago and I wonder why it took me so long to get back! Perhaps a long reservation wait time, but it is absolutely worth it! I've been to Little Goat Diner countless times and love it as well. So I knew I was going to enjoy this dining experience. I was there for a birthday celebration, along with 3 of my closest friends. The 4 of us shared 7 dinner plates and 1 dessert and that was plenty of food...and of course cocktails mixed in there. For you foodies out there, here is what we got: \nBread: It's Gouda (bread was so fresh and warm, and the butter was amazing)\nVeggies: Sautéed Green Beans and Bleu Cheese Sweet Potato Pierogies\nGoats: Confit Goat Belly (whoever came up with the bourbon butter is a genius)\nMeats: Crispy Beef Short Ribs, Wood Oven Roasted Pig Face (the best 'breakfast' type of dish for dinner) and the Crisp Braised Pork Shank (a MUST--the meat fell off the bone and the accompanying sauce was a delightful surprise!)\nDessert: Caramel Corn & Malt Balls\n\nOur top 4 plates were the crisp braised pork shank, the confit goat belly, pig face, and the sautéed green beans. \n\nThis place is always packed and the seating is tight between tables, but not too close that you're hearing the conversation next to you. As a suggestion, I would keep it at most to a party of 4--I'm usually for 'the more the merrier', but in this case the noise level and seating for this many people was perfect. Also, more than the 7 entrees we got would have been too much food for each person to try. \n\nYou cannot go wrong with anything on the menu. Do no think twice, make your reservation!!

This place is wonderful! Service was great. P[eople still coming in with reservations at 10 pm. The room is open concept and can get a bit noisy and has low lighting. Even at the age old age of 50 (Ha!) and needing reading glasses I had no problems. Tapas means sharing small plates and these were perfect. They even brought a small cake with candle to our table for my sisters birthday. Well done!

I have been trying off and on since the G&G first opened to get a reservation. Tried for the heck of it on a Thursday for a Saturday reservation and bingo we were in. For all the hype this place gets, it was every bit as good as the write ups. Small plates or family style however you want to look at it, but either way you order plates and share. Perfect for sharing with four. Deserts are the bomb, get the 'Carmel corn & malt balls'. It's KILLER and the citrus meringue pie is served for a photo shoot.\nI would highly recommend this restaurant as long as noise doesn't bother you because it is a lively crowd in close quarters. Nice job Girl and the Goat, we will return if we can get a reservation........LOL

After hearing such great reviews, we booked this meal for our tenth year anniversary dinner. We were seated at the kitchen bar which was incredible. Our server was friendly, fun, and excellent at his job. The various food runners were informative and polite. The chefs seemed to cook naturally and comfortably. Overall great experience. Our server recommended 3-4 items for our party of 2, and shared his favorites and the most popular dishes. We started with the bacon bread, which was served with lard butter and romesco sauce - very good. We also did the mussels, pig face, and pork shank. While all were delicious, my husband and I both liked the pork shank the best. Great flavor and very tender underneath the crispy skin. We really wanted dessert, but we were stuffed after the first four dishes. While we liked everything, I think a more balance mix of dishes would have left us with more room at the end. Only down fall - tables were so close together. You have to pull the table out to squeeze into the seat and get back out. I'd definitely go back!

Celebrating an anniversary, and what better place than GATG? Everything we had was wonderful: the green beans were extraordinary (and I hate green beans as a rule), char-broiled broccoli ('broccoli trying to be like a steak' -- fantastic), goat empanadas and short ribs. Our server Josh was very helpful and had good suggestions. Cocktails were great too; I recommend the Local 75, a variation on a French 75. Caramel corn and malt balls dessert provided a perfect sweet ending to a wonderful meal. Love the Goat!

Friend recommended this place to me. He really built it up as if this was the place to be. I yelped it and the reviews were through the roof, so I decided to check it out. I ordered the pork shank and the pig face; both meals were simply ok, nothing more than average. There is too much hype around the 'deliciousness' of these meals. Again, it was mediocre and only that. The service however was great. Our waiter was super helpful and very friendly. Out of this experience, the service is what I will remember and not the bland food.

Heard about it for years, finally got to tried it, I like most of the dishes we ordered, and the service was good, they had a guy specialized in going around refilling water, which I really appreciate because I am a huge water drinker and in most restaurants, it is a pain to keep asking for water. They have some unusual things on the menu, like cow tongue and pig face, which I love, but if you're less adventurous, there's lots of normal/regular items you could choose from. The portion is not big, but 2 plates per person should fill you up with a little room for desert. When you first look at the menu, you may think the price is a bit high, considering all the dish is not entree size, but after getting the bill at the end of the meal, I think it is good value for the money, because I have paid much higher price for less tasty food. I will probably come back again for special occasions.

Good restaurant and the food lived up to the hype but way too fast-paced. The tapas kept coming out every couple minutes, with no room in the table for everything. Really really tasty food but the service was subpar. Our server was completely inattentive except for when it came time for the check, which was dropped off before we could even take a bit of dessert and picked up immediately after a card came out (literally stretching across our table and food to pluck it up and say 'thanks have a good nght'; it was bizarre), after which there was no further service, even though we had drinks, full plates of food, etc. For the price and vibe of the restaurant, the service should be a lot better. It felt like service you would expect at a greasy spoon diner.

Service: \nBartender and waiter = friendly, knowledgeable, and great!\nHostess = snotty and unclear (not all of them... there were 3 at that time. Just one of them who was the one who showed us to our table. She should not be a hostess as she was not welcoming at all. I wish the other two showed us to our seat instead).\n\nFood:\nMenu = not as descriptive... needed waiter to truly describe food. I liked that it was divided between veggie, fish, and meat.\nDishes = ordered the chickpeas from veggie menu and pork shank from meat menu. Both dishes were perfect to be shared by two people. Very original flavors... absolutely delicious and unique dishes. Really good food.\n\nDrinks:\nAlcohol = Boondocks Saints was an original drink. Tasted great.\nWater = came in cute glass bottle for the table... but wasn't the most pure tasting water. \n\nAmbience:\nVERY TIGHT FIT! I do not recommend this restaurant for a romantic evening... which is what we went for: to celebrate our wedding anniversary. It's very loud and tables and chairs are extremely close together. Only good if you want to be really social. And it's very loud... you can hear every conversation because you're sitting so close to strangers. Hard to focus on your own conversation without reacting to other people's crazy convos!!! Hard to hear waiter over everybody talking... truly a social mix and mingle kind of place. If you want any privacy, don't go here. If you want a nice social scene, go here.\n\nBathrooms:\nUnique experience. Individualized bathrooms... small rooms with toilet and sink... maybe 6-8 of them. Unisex. Downstairs. Very private... not like their dining area. So, that was weird. I bet a lot of private things happen in those bathrooms lol

My husband and I were visiting Chicago from Portland Oregon and GATG was recommended by locals as well as out of town visitors. What a fantastic experience! We are spoiled in Portland with many amazing, creative and globally inspired restaurant but this topped them all. Everything from the high energy atmosphere to our fabulous server, the entire creative menu and the I-can't-stop-thinking-about desserts! We highly recommend The Girl and the Goat.

Positives: The restaurant space is very nice and feels very open, we had a reservation and were seated promptly, the food is very good and creative and was served with very little wait time between each entrée. The only dish we did not like was the goat and lobster dish. We felt that the flavors of both got overwhelmed by the sauce which we didn't care for. \n\nNegatives: As many other reviewers have commented, the tables are very close together so it does not feel like an intimate dining experience. I think it was worse for us, as a party of two, crammed in between larger parties. Our server was not helpful at all. She did not make any food recommendations and when we asked about specific dishes she could not elaborate about the ingredients or the preparation. We got zero guidance from her on what to order despite the fact that she knew it was our first time there. She also never asked me if I wanted another drink although she did ask my husband. So I drank water for most of my meal. She rarely checked in with us while we were eating and then she delivered the bill before our desserts were even served. We were very polite to her so it was just a mystery why we got the cold shoulder. I will say that the service at the other tables around us seemed much more attentive. We just came away feeling like it was just a good meal, but not the special and intimate dinner that we were so looking forward to. Not sure I would go back. So very disappointing.

It's been a while since I was there but look forward to going again. The only issue for us was we needed more people so we could try more dishes. We were just two. 4 to 6 would be perfect. The plates are not tiny so I couldn't try as many. But all that we tried were fabulous enough to make me want to gather a group next time I can get in. Unfortunately we don't live there all the time so by the time we know we're going I can't get reservations always. Very popular but I'll keep trying, it's worth it

One of the best meals I've had the pleasure of eating! We really enjoyed the variety of options on the menu, and with decently sized portions for sharing plates. We were super impressed with the way they take care to strategically serve your dishes to help you manage your appetite and keep the tastes fresh. The wine and cocktails were delicious and creative too. Faves: goat empanadas, and the short ribs. Also the dessert with the ice cream with magic shell and popcorn, SO GOOD!

They have excellent service and delicious food, though some of the menu items are a bit too exotic for me (cuttlefish, escargot, pig face, etc.). The ice cream and caramel popcorn dessert is an amazing combination of sweet and savory!

The four of us (2 couples) had a wonderful dining experience at Girl & the Goat, and I emphasize the word experience, because it was truly a feast for the palate and the eyes. With 9 dishes shared among us, we savored the creatively flavored meats and vegetables and seafood and imaginative combinations. My favorites were the green beans in fish sauce with cashews, and the calamari bruschetta, but all were terrific. My friend esp. loved the pig face patties with sunny side up egg on top. Service was superb; our waiter took great pains to 'x' out on the menu any dish with seafood or fish sauce, on behalf of one of us who had an allergy to it. Cocktails and wine were top-notch. We had an early reservation, and as the place filled up, conversation became a bit challenging, so prepare to project more than usual...

I took my boyfriend for his birthday. We had been wanting to come here for dinner for the longest time and were really looking forward to it. The food was delicious and unique. Our server just seemed crabby, not friendly, didn't seem to care at all when I said it was his birthday. I wasn't looking for anything other than a nice happy birthday. She took a horrible picture of us because you could tell she was annoyed we were asking her. It was really really loud in the restaurant and hard to have a conversation at all. I'm bummed because we enjoyed the food. We also love Little Goat and go there frequently. Just have to do something about the level of service and how loud it gets in there. If you're going to spend a lot you want an experience that's worth it.

What I didn't enjoy was sitting so close to the other table and how rude the people sitting next us were and the fact the young woman said she worked for the restaurant made it worse. The food at Girl & the Goat was mostly fabulous. We ordered 7 items for 3 people, and left happily full. The empanadas, pierogies, and goat belly were all highlights. The fries were very forgettable, and since they are listed as 'ham fries', I expected more than just some powdered ham over the top. Pacing was an issue: we were fine ordering all at once, but would have liked our vegetables to be delivered early in the meal so we could enjoy them with everything else. Instead, they came out as one of the last two items, when most other food had already been eaten. The fries also came out late in the meal. We were at our table for less than 2 hours in total, yet still found ourselves being rushed out the door - servers clearing every item off the table, and multiple staffers hovering behind us, waiting for us to get up the second our bill was paid.

We arrived 5 minutes before our reservation and we were informed we would have to wait a few minutes passed our reservation. The manager came over and apologized (100% not necessary) and when we arrived at our table (10 minutes after our reservation time) they delivered a complimentary appetizer. My friend and I had dinner at the restaurant on a Tuesday night and had reservations at 9pm. We arrived a little early and realized that the restaurant was quite busy and we would have to wait so i informed the hostess and we waited near the bar. Once we were seated we looked at the menu for awhile unsure of what to order and a gentleman by the name of Victor came over to our table to serve us. He was very dry and monotone. He didn't ask us what was the occasion for coming out to the restaurant or if this had been our first time dining there, which it was. I took it upon myself to tell him this was our first time at the restaurant and he gave a short explanation of the v-f-m letters that were located on the top of the menu. I also told him that it was my friends birthday. In a low monotone voice he said happy birthday. My friend and I didn't really like the fact that he was so unenthusiastic as a server since we were celebrating his birthday or the fact that he wasn't very friendly or outgoing. I decided to watch him and observe him with the four women who were dining to my left and the 4 people dining to my right. He seemed to engage more in conversation with the four older women at the table to my left and he asked them how they were enjoying the food. He came over to our table once and was very short in asking how we were enjoying the food and quickly left. He was only serving 3 tables at the time and we were all next to each other so it wasn't like he was overworked. I've worked in the restaurant industry for 6 years and can honestly say for an upscale restaurant this is the worse service that I have ever experienced. Don't get me wrong, we both enjoyed the food , but at the end of the day customer service is key to having people come back to your establishment and spend money. If the customer service from one individual isn't up to par it makes the entire place of business look bad and can ruins someone's experience.

After hearing so much about the restaurant, not sure it could live up to the hype. First timer, cool but loud atmosphere, very eclectic. Called ahead to inform them our party of four was now two, treated kind of rude, but they said it would still be good to come. Thanks. Excellent wine selection, a little short on beer choices, but probably not that kind of crowd. Appetizer was the wood fired oysters, very average, very overprices. New Orleans may be the only place for oysters!! Enjoyed four small plates, sweet potato pieroges..quite good and flavorful, blackened catfish....with great dirty rice but the fish was just ok, rib shank...outstanding with some great sauces, probably the best item and then the pig face, excellent but a little pricey. Dessert was different and very good which was the popcorn salted caramel. I guess you have to go to see for yourself, not really my thing, but some unusual compilations.

Girl & The Goat is one of our favorite restaurants. The service is amazing, the location and ambiance is perfect. My wife and I have been here three times, and it never disappoints. Every time we plan on going back, I'm afraid that I built it up in my mind more than I should have, but when we're done, I'm equally as impressed as the last time I went. The Chickpea Fritters are always changing and always one of the best things on the menu. Stephanie Izard is always taking modest ingredients and making mouth watering combinations from them. One of the top 10 meals I've ever had. My only complaint was that it feels like a rushed dining experience. Lots of little things, that normally I could overlook, made this dinner less than stellar. We were sat 20 minutes late with no apology or even acknowledgement. Not the end of the world. We were sat at a table directly behind the host stand. I mean I could move my elbow and hit the male host with a slight disposition right in the but cheek. This table is right next to the overflow of bar guests as well. There was a tiny divider where on the other side, bar guests could place their drinks. This proved to be very awkward and invasive. Our server immediately got our order wrong. We ordered the warm shrimp salad and the first thing to come out was smoked oysters? We also mentioned that we might add on the goat belly later and it was brought out anyway. In over an hour, or server only checked in once. Drinks came out fast but were not the best. Food was decent, portions were fair. Overall had higher expectations and maybe that's our fault. These issues may be minimal but it was enough to make us feel bad about choosing to dine here with all of the other great options in Chicago.

My boyfriend and I had a fantastic 1 year anniversary experience at Girl and the Goat! We were seated (unexpectedly) at the chef's table where we got a cozy corner to ourselves seated right in front of the open kitchen. Throughout our meal, we got to watch the cooks make food, and were open to answering any questions we had.\nOur server was also great - full of knowledge and accommodating but not overbearing. We even received two complimentary taster dishes after having deliberated between a few dishes with our server. \nThe restaurant was packed and full of energy. Nice, but not overly stuffy and pretentious. \nOverall, a fantastic experience! Will be back.

Went here on an early Saturday evening for dinner. Kelly was our waitress and went far beyond the typical service. She checked on us a few times throughout but was never overbearing and had great timing. We had some dietary restrictions as well and she was very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu and offering suggestions, even explaining how the kitchen could alter dished to fit our restrictions. The food was also incredible, everyone had a different favorite but enjoyed them all. I will definitely recommend this restaurant as a great option for special dinners or date night. The decor is great, staff is friendly, food is delicious!\n\nA note about cost: It can get a bit pricey if you're not careful. What you get is definitely worth the price for what you get but keep an eye out if you're on a budget, especially if ordering alcohol.

I made a reservation for two on Opentable for 10:30 pm which is fine for us we eat late often and were sightseeing the whole day. We were starving and ready to go - well so was our waiter! We felt completely rushed and could not even enjoy the experience. I understand for a server being stuck there stinks but the restaurant should not take late reservations if their servers are unwilling to give appropriate service. I was so disappointed because this place was highly recommended and the food really was great. We had such wonderful experiences at restaurants in Chicago and this was our last night. I'm glad we had time for the Architectural tour the next day because I would not have wanted our trip to end on that note! I would go back but if there was only late reservations available, I would recommend waiting another day when an early one is available! Granted you could be lucky and not get our waiter!

great food, interesting if you are adventurous palate. Noise level way to high to speak to your dinner companion. It is always crowded and very noisy. Would prefer less noise so you can have a dinner conversation at your table. Also even though we made a reservation, we had to wait a long time to be seated at a table. Hostesses ( a man and a woman) both not friendly at all and a bit condescending to all who approach the hostess podium. In a city where there are many fine restaurants, there are more pleasant places to eat with friendlier service and staff. \nFood unique and good, but service and staff and noise level need improvement.

Girl and the Goat is not to be missed. Absolutely outstanding in every way. The food is simply amazing. The menu takes things that you many not have considered and turns them into a work of art in both appearance and flavor. Taking something like duck tongues and making them something almost magical is a skill that you simply do not find anywhere else.\n\nI would highly recommend the escargot ravioli, the roasted beets, duck tongues and of course any of the goat options that are on the menu. All are wonderful. \n\nThe ambiance of the restaurant is great. Not too bright, lively but still somewhere that you could have a romantic date if you would like. \n\nIf you can score a reservation no matter what time it is you should go. My family makes it a habit to dine at fine restaurants all over the country. We were excited to be able to get a reservation at Girl and the Goat. We should not have been. The menu is pretentious. The food was all excessively salty, and it arrived at odd intervals, so that main dishes came before vegetables, and one main dish came long after everyone else had completed their meal. One of the wait staff continually poured water for us from a bottle on the table, even after we had only taken a sip, and it became intrusive and annoying. The meal was expensive, and had us all wishing we had just gone to our favorite diner. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

I've been to many restaurants that are good, but don't necessarily live up to their hype or price tag. Girl and the Goat blows those places away. At an average of $16 per place, I thought it was a great value for food that really was incredible. We ordered Wood Grilled Broccoli, Chickpea Fritters, Pigface, Goat Loin, Crudo, and an espresso desert. What set Girl and the Goat apart from many other places for me was not just that the Chickpea Fritters were delicious and full of flavors melting in your mouth, but that everything the fritters were plated on top of was also so tasty. Once the fritters were gone I found myself eating forkfulls of the tomatoes and other vegetables that were underneath them. Every aspect of the dish is executed in a way that you feel like you could build an entire meal off of it. We had 4 dishes shared between two people (only one of us had the crudo) and it was plenty of food to leave us stuffed. Would love to go with a bigger group just so I can taste even more of the plates. It was well worth the wait for a reservation.

unique flavors - beet salad w maybe anchovies, a buttery tender sautéed calamari, goat empanadas, good wines to pair, but the table flipping oriented service where diners must order all their small plates at once as though they were set courses sort of betrays the spontaneity of a typical small plate dining experience or the kind of lingering that often occurs over drinks and small plates - this restaurant wants you in and out . go for the the food and you won't be disappointed.

If you're in Chicago, go. It's that simple. I gather that Girl and Goat has become one of those places that people love to take pot shots at. Why? All you get there is food that is so good you'll remember it and want to go back, along with knowledgeable service and specialty cocktails that are actually delicious, not pretentious. If there's a weak link, it's the wine list, but that's basically fine. Just go.

With reservations so hard to score I grabbed a 5:15pm Friday night to celebrate my Wife's birthday. We were seated at one end of the kitchen's serving counter with a direct view into the kitchen staff's work areas. My first reaction was to think I would hate the seats. But I became a convert as we were able to interact with the the staff who proved to be fun and relaxed while they worked. I love to cook, so I also enjoyed the view on some really unique prep and cooking methods. Now, I would try to request these two seats if they are available. Service was outstanding and our waitress was attentive and friendly. She had to act as a coach to us about shared plates, how much to order, house specialties etc..\n\nAnd the food...WOW. The flavors, textures and presentation were amazing. We tried (and would recommend) the taco bread, roasted cauliflower with pine nuts and mint (I could have made a meal out of just that!). Hamachi Crudo, grilled Walter's Chicken, crisp braised pork shank. Every dish was unique and delicious. We also ordered the Wood Oven Roasted Pig Face, and while we both marveled at the flavor, my wife wasn't thrilled with the soft texture. \n\nSo, let's review...outstanding service, lively and upbeat atmosphere, and food that was beautiful and flavorful. We had a great time and considering everything I wrote above we found the pricing to be reasonable. The most ringing endorsement I can share is that we are planning on returning and taking some friends to introduce them to the restaurant. Highly recommended.

A really enjoyable expereince at Girl & The Goat, and I can understand why everyone recommends it. The food was very good, the staff were attentive without being suffocating, and the ambiance was funky and informal. \n\nMy one complaint would be that they ask you to order your full order in one go i.e. they don't want people to have a couple of plates, then order some more again if they were hungry (like at a tapas restaurant). This would have been fine but the plates were quite big so it was difficult to gauge the right amount if it is your first time at the restaurant. The recommended four between two people but after the third plate (To be fair, we did have some bread to start - the Johnny Appleseed plate, in fact. Delicious.) we were pretty much done. It would have been good to have the option to order less and then top up, if necessary. \n\nAll in all, though, this didn't affect the night or dinner enough for it to be a genuine complaint. More just a recommendation.\n\nI would definitely recommend G&TG to anyone heading to Chicago.

After hearing friends talk about this place I had to give it a try. Even when I went at 10 pm it was still packed. This is obviously a very trendy place to go. The decor is a little rustic with wood everywhere, and the lighting was slightly dim to give it a warm feel. Even with reservations it took about 10 minutes to be seated. The service was good, they were very prompt but not overly friendly. The food I would say is excellent. This dishes were all very fresh and flavorful, although after hearing about how good the pig face was I ended up a little disappointed. It was good however it tasted more like spam than anything else. I did not, however, like was how cramped the seating was. I thought some of the tables were too close together. The people next to us were very close, I was expecting a loud atmosphere but I thought this was a little to close to others for a sit down meal, even though the people next to us were very friendly. If you are siting at some of the tables for two with the bench, the table has to be pulled out for the person on the bench side to get in. This was a little awkward but not a huge deal. Overall I would recommend this restaurant but I think it is a little overrated. I'd go back to try more of the menu because the food was very good.

We decided to try this spot out after the great reviews on TripAdvisor. From out of town, so looking for a unique Chicago experience. Fun place to visit, with an eclectic tapa-style menu. Rated as moderately priced, but that was misleading, as based on each tapas price, not an entrée-sized item. Goat was the specialty, but ended up with only one dish, as lots of other interesting choices available.\n\nYou need to have a voice that carries to engage in conversation, typical of new hot-spot locations. Being one who doesn't, conversation was limited unfortunately - not for a romantic couples date. Also, they love keeping your water glass full, so know where the bathroom is (downstairs at front, to left of bar)! Felt rushed, as was busy, which took away from the dining experience as well. But if going for food, not to be disappointed. 8 (9?) tapas + bottle of wine came to $300USD.

As per the title, it's very loud. Not exactly suited for a nice date or special occasion unless it's a bachelor party etc... That said, the food is good. Out of all the dishes we ordered we were only disappointed by the cauliflower which was too salty to the point you didn't know you were eating cauliflower. I do like the Goat theme and highly recommend the liver mousse (pate). Please be aware that this dish is also vegetarian friendly as only the mousse is non-vegetarian and is served in its own container. \n\nOverall, the meal was a good meal. Not the best, but for the price I'd rather go to Mana Food Bar. That said the service was okay and the atmosphere was extremely loud. I literally had to scream to have a conversation. \n\nSo right now the only reason the rating is low isn't because the food is bad or the service is terrible. It's because for a 2.5 month reservation wait, it's really not that great. Other amazing restaurants, like Mana Food Bar serve better food, with better service, for less money and without reservations. Hell, if I want to compare a better restaurant with reservations go to Sepia. \n\nI realize this restaurant is trendy with the chef being on television and James Beard etc... but honestly, the hype is only real for a few of the dishes, otherwise it's another failure of why James Beard has nothing on the Michelin Guide. I really have to stop going to JB recommended restaurants and stick to the Michelin Guide...

Love all their vegetable-based options. The only nit-picky comment is that their previous shishito peppers preparation with some kind of sauce on it was our favorite ever, but the more recent one was a bit bland. The place is really loud, so summertime if you are lucky to grab a spot outside is the best time to eat there.

Food was excellent. They made us come at 4:30pm to get a reservation. There was no one there but we racked up almost $800 including gratuity. They were a bit overzealous with the water refills. I was annoyed because I was looking forward to their green beans but they lathered it in aioli despite that not being listed on the menu

Celebrated a friends birthday, our reservation was at 10:30pm.Wasn't excited about eating so late but I would do it agian in a heartbeat ,everything was done to perfection if you are a foodie this is your place.Had the oysters, pig face, pork shank and goat pate'Loved it all and finished with carmel corn and malt Ice cream!Though it is quite hard to get a table here,it is worth giving it a try and don't give up!!This would be one place to make reservations months or even a year in advance and look forward to counting down the days for a very special experience!

GO HERE. Just do it.\n\nWhen you go, you must order:\n\nSauteed Green Beans - my favorite out of everything we ordered\nCalamari Bruschetta \nRed Fish\nWood Oven Roasted Pig Face\nCrisp Braised Pork Shank\n\nThe ham frites are fabulous but relatively inside the box. We ordered them in case some of the other items failed to satisfy. The goat empanadas were also really good, but like a lot of other yelpers mentioned, I didn't notice a huge difference between these empanadas and others I've had in the past.\n\nMy friends also raved about the drinks! Among the favorites were the Very Old Fashioned and the Boondocks Saints.\n\nFor dessert, get the Caramel Corn & Malt Balls. So weird, but so good.

The restaurant was fabulous. The use of flavors in the food was amazing. I was satisfied with every dish, cocktail and, dessert. Our server was wonderful as well. In fact the server we were met by was great too but then our table server came and I was like 'whoa two great servers in one restaurant?' Which sounds snotty but I mean great servers not good servers or our server was okay they were fantastic. The food was timed well and the water came at a non-intruding interval. If you could only have the dish go with the calamari bruschetta! (close second being the confit which was divine) The only thing I wasn't pleased with was the sandwich eating valet guy.

On every trip to Chicago for the last couple of years, we've tried unsuccessfully to get into Girl & the Goat. Finally, I obtained a reservation one month out for a Monday evening. It was worth the wait, it is not over-hyped. Each dish cooked to perfection. Our server told us that 1 out of 10 of the shishito peppers were hot and unfortunately, I got the HOT one on the very first bite. That was my only regret of the evening. I would not order those again but otherwise, a perfect evening. Chic, casual ambience. Just hope it doesn't take another 2 years to get in again.

I had the Sweet Corn Pierogies, the Wood Grilled Broccoli, the Bucatini, and the Wood Oven Roasted Pigs Face... It honestly could have been from any of those dishes but I felt fine all day and even after dinner but woke up in the night very sick. \n\nHonestly, I would still recommend this restaurant to anyone. Food was creative and delicious. I'd certainly go back with that in mind. However, it was very noisy/crowded. Hard to hear ourselves at our table for four. Also, we were there to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday, and they didn't do a single thing to acknowledge our occasion in any way despite having been let know well in advance and my mentioning it again when I confirmed. That was disappointing. But the food, especially the bread, fish items, and green beans were amazing. We made the reservation months in advance and made quite an occasion of going. It was lovely, but if they'd done something to make my mother feel special I'd have rated it even more highly.

Ever since I heard/read/saw Girl & the Goat on paper and TV a couple of years ago, I've been wanting to go there and eat. Since I live in New York, it hadn't happened until this time when I visited Chicago. It was a last minute trip, so couldn't make reservations ahead of time but decided to walk in anyway. The place was packed for a Tuesday night. I immediately fell in love with the place as soon as I walked in. I love any restaurant that's popping on a Tuesday night with a vibrant bar scene. They must be doing something right. So we sat at the bar since the wait was a little long for a table for a little late dinner. Do you have a problem sitting at the bar and having dinner? Nopes, not at all. \nOrdered quite a lot of food, everything was tasty. Hamachi crudo with pork belly and pig face with sunny side egg up were probably my favorite. Can't go wrong with tasty ass pork and a good sazerac my friends. Bartenders were and attentive, especially the female barteneder (sorry I forgot her name), she was fantastic. Would have loved to say hello to the chef but I'm pretty sure she was in the kitchen like a tireless goat. Thumbs up and I'll be back for some goat and pork goodness.

If you are a meat lover, especially strange meats, this is the place for you otherwise the menu is pretty limited. The flavors are good although heavy on the salt. Part of it is all the hype, we tried for a couple years to get into this place so we had really high expectations and they just were not met. The wines by the glass were really good. A renowned restaurant living on its reputation rather than sustaining its excellence. The food was decently good. The service was quite good. But the thing that tainted the meal and pushed it to the negative side was the pacing. At a place where you pay not just for food, but also an experience, the miscues on integral components of certain dishes and the hurried almost non-stop pace of dishes being served made the experience a disappointing one, especially after the buildup.

I think any restaurant review should include what was eaten:\n\nOysters - Wood Fired\nPan Fried Shishito Peppers-Parmesan. Sesame. Miso \nsweet potato bleu cheese Pierogies - Yuzu-harissa. Apple giardiniera. Caramelized sweet onion sour cream \nSeared Diver Scallops - Delicata squash brandade. Fried brussels sprouts. Pecans. Pomegranate\nGrilled Marinated Pork Belly - Castlefranco. Sauce green. Ground cherries \n\nMy wife and I grabbed a last minute reservation which is crazy hard to do at this awesome restaurant. We have eaten here 3 times and it certainly one of our favorite places to eat and see what new tastes Stephanie has come up with. It certainly didn't disappoint this time. I am a great lover of raw oysters and usually don't like cooked oysters of any kind but the wood fired oysters are incredible. No one rocks the Shishito like they do although many these days are trying. The scallops were very original and oh so good. The pierogies were just ok, wouldn't recommend. Not bad but not very original tasting and the pork belly was good but not outstanding. Sometimes it can get pretty loud in there but great food brings great conversation and so I feel that is a reflection of how good it is! I feel like I hold them to a higher standard because some dishes are so incredible but I will certainly be looking to go back whenever I can. keep it up and thanks!

This restaurant was the toughest reservation to get during a planned visit to Chicago - was checking months out until they finally opened up (I think it was about 2 months out). Even with frequent checking, had to take an early seating (5:15). The food was different but spectacular, the service relaxed and friendly, and the vibe of the place was definitely energetic, bordering on noisy. Expect that may get in the way of them earning a Michelin star, but the food quality certainly does. Will definitely try to get back on subsequent visits to Chicago.

Wow - what an amazing culinary experience. I have tried numerous times to book a reservation when I know I will be in Chicago, but it took a while before I finally secured one! I booked the reservation 2 months in advance and still had a later time slot. That was not a problem though. The menu and food were amazing and unique. Our server was so knowledgeable - really liked her. And the others backed her up too for great service. I was a little shocked at how close the tables were. I definitely was expecting a little more of a romantic vibe in the place. In some spots you got that, but we were sitting so close to our neighbors we didn't. \n\nI would go back if I could get in though - top notch dishes and lots of yummy goat.

I made a reservation for The Girl and the Goat months in advance to ensure my fiancé and I got a table for our anniversary. Upon arrival, we were promptly seated, but in the worst spot possible for a romantic dinner for 2: right on the expo line. I don't mean in a table across from it, I mean literally the same counter, a foot from where servers were coming to get food to take to their tables. I can't fault kitchen staff for shouting. ) They are communicating with each other to help the kitchen run smoothly. ) we say there for maybe 5 minutes before we realized there was no way we could sit there and enjoy ourselves. We asked to be moved, and after about 25 minutes, they found us a table. I understand that it was a busy Sunday night, but it was way too crowded and way to loud in there. The tables are so close together, every time a server comes to pick up a dish or pour wine, you get a butt in your face. So then we ordered. I like the style of how they serve, for sure. I just wish the food had been better!! We paid $9 for a basic beet salad. It was approximately 1 red beet, a cup of greens, and I honestly never saw it tasted any avocado creme fraise. The broccoli was the best part of the meal, and honestly the only dish we enjoyed. The scallops were very basic, as well as the chickpea fritters, and whatever else we got. Maybe the food and atmosphere would be better on a weekday night, but I doubt we will ever go again. It was pretty disappointing to have had such an experience on the night of our anniversary. Luckily we waited a few hours and went out to our favorite sushi/Thai restaurant and had a wonderful time.

We used to live in Chicago and just never made it out to Girl & The Goat, but when we decided to come back for Thanksgiving we knew we had to make reservations! The food exceeded any expectation we could have had. At the end of the meal we had one item still on its way, the calamari, but we had seen a lot of tables getting the pork shank and it looked amazing. I asked our waiter if it was too late to change our last item and he did it happily - even saying the a hank was a much better choice! Boy am I glad we did that - it was one of the best things we've ever had, with the naan, buffalo sauce and ranch - so amazing! Our waiter was exceptional and the whole evening was well with the wait. We will be coming back every year at the holidays!

Given all of the buzz about this restaurant I was expecting a bit more. While the scene was lively and the people watching was great, the food and the service were really just average for restaurants in this price range. Definitely not on my 'must go back to' list.

A must whether you live or are just visiting Chicago. A cool scene with a good upbeat vibe and open layout. The variety of cocktails are unique and handcrafted perfectly. The food selection is varied with something for everyone. The menu leans toward very unique dishes but even the pickiest person could find something here. We had the calamari bruschetta, duck tongue, pork shank and shrimp/crab sautee of some sort. Each dish could stand on its own and we all debated which was the best. Can't wait to return.

The food was nothing particularly imaginative. We tried a few of the pretty popular dishes including the johnny apple cheese, pig face, and green beans among others. There was nothing interesting or particularly tasty about what we tried. The service was also pretty slow that night. Maybe we just have very high standards, but we felt we could do better elsewhere and for a better price at that.

My wife and I have been coming to Girl & the Goat for the past 4 years. We actually counted our visits at the table and this was #12. We were seated at the chefs table by the grill this time. The chefs were immediately engaging and eager to make our experience fun. We let our server, Katie, know that we will be moving to the west coast in a month and this would likely be our last visit for a while. She along with the chefs working in our station made our visit one we will never forget.\n\nWe always over order because we have too many favorites. This time we did the grilled oysters, goat empanadas, cauliflower, green beans, bucatini, pig face, escargot ravioli, and goat belly. Sadly my wife's all-time favorite dish, sugo, is off the menu. \n\nWe will be back when we visit Chicago but very sad to not have this restaurant on our regular list. We both think it is the best in the city.

I had high expectation for G&TG given its popularity, Top Chef pedigree, and long wait list. I was quite disappointed in my dining experience. I am pescatarian, so perhaps my experience would have been better if I had tried their meat dishes. We ordered two of their breads - the jonhnny applecheese and the nutter butter. The breads were the best part of the meal, they were soft and flavorful and came in little pre-sliced loaves with an accompanying spread or tapenade and oil. The cheese bread I would definitely order again. My main was the scallops. Although cooked well, they overly salty (in fact this was an issue with several of their dishes - and I am usually the one at the table that adds salt!), and this overpowered the delicate taste of the scallops. The accompanying squash puree was bland, and the brussel sprouts were so tiny and sparse that I barely recognized them. My dining partner ordered the shisito peppers and they were okay (I am not a big fan of shisito peppers in general, so I may be biased on that account, although my dining partner only ate half of them and did not ask for a doggie bag which is indicative of his opinion of them). We ordered the bittersweet chocolate cake with the shitake-caramel gelato for dessert. The cake had a rich chocolate flavor but it was much more bitter than sweet, and had a slightly sour note to it. The Shitake-caramel gelato felt victim to oversalting, and it was difficult to taste the other flavor profiles because of this. Our service was ok - our waitress was attentive at times, but not consistently - there was a point when she left us for a long period of time unattended and we had to ask for another server to get her attention so that we could order. Overall, I expected a much better dining experience, and G&TG did not live up to its hype. I've had much better meals at Little Goat, its more economical sister.

Because of my allergy to onions 75% of the menu was off limits, although some changes were made to some items to make them tolerable for me . They were as accomodating as they could be. \nI should have checked before we made reservations but our meal was due to a G&G gift card.\nService was great. Noise was such that conversation was difficult.\nAll food was way too salty. Good thing I didn't have high blood pressure or I could have suffered a stroke!\nSauteed green beans were fresh, crisp and a very large portion. Ordered wood grilled broccoli but it was never delivered to our table. Goat Empanadas were a tasty novelty. Calamari bruschetta was good. The bread crust made it almost impossible to cut with the bread knife provided. Grilled Walter's Chicken was sufficient for two but sauce was incredibly salty. Nice selection of affordable wines by the glass. Waitress very knowledgable about menu and wines. Valet parking was $14. Street was one way east so approach from the west.

It was that good. I had a nice view of the open kitchen as well. Support staff were very attentive. After several tries I finally got the reservation at G & the G ....at 4:30pm on a Friday. Arrived ~5 minutes early. Staff herds all early arrivals to the bar area, which has limited seating and limited standing space. It was uncomfortable. After being seated at our table we were told that the dishes are shared and you should order everything at once. OK fine, first dish we ordered was a beet salad. Maybe it was 'locally sourced' beets, but it looked like the same purple beets I buy in a can at home a 1,000 miles away. There was supposed to be anchovies in the beet salad and we did find 2 small pieces. First dish, not impressed. Second dish was octopus , OK but nothing special. Third dish, empanada, also, very ordinary. Fourth dish, pig face. This was the best dish, great taste, but it was really small. As far as the restaurant ambiance goes it was extremely \nloud, conversation was difficult. The seating is very 'close', as one person is seated on a long bench seat along a wall, with the next table seated relatively close nearby. The place is very loud, we had trouble talking across the table, the table next to us adjusted to the loud background by talking even louder, and after a few drinks, the F bombs became an every other word necessity for them. Having worked in the travel industry since 1972 I am familiar with tourist traps and to me the G & the G is nothing more than an expensive, semi-novel tourist trap.

The cauliflower has a nice tang with the pickled peppers, the escargot dumplings (SO TASTY AND DIFF) the short rib had great flavor with the grapefruit and avocado... but was a bit on the dry/crispy side for my liking. Omg where to start!? I've been wanting to try this place for as long as it's been open but of course I needed to wait for the opportune moment when I was in Chicago (thank you work conference!). \n\nI had made reservations three months early and even then the times available were either super early or super late (sign of popularity in my book). \n\nWe arrived at exactly 10pm and were shown to our table immediately. We were lucky and got the 'chef's table' which gave us a front row seat to the open kitchen. Being the Top Chef fan that I am, watching the chefs work the line made me feel like I was deep in the culinary trenches with them too! It truly was a foodie's dream come true. \n\nOur server was sweet, knowledgeable, and was the least bit pushy. Food came out as they were ready but was fine since it's served tapas style and helped pace our intake, ie. we didn't rapidly overstuff our faces. Food was amazing. Each dish different but also worked in union. Ingredients I never would've had together, worked so well. Of course we had to try a goat dish--the goat empanadas were so approachable. I normally despise the gamey taste of goat but this almost tasted like pork and was not tough at all. Our other four dishes included the kohlrabi salad (refreshing), chili shrimp (flavorful), calamari bruschetta (unexpected but yummy combo), and duck tongue (wow!!!!). Dessert was the chocolate cake and I believe I floated up to the stars after the first bite. Talk about explosion of flavors. \n\nAmbience was made up of clubby music with the industrial rustic look. Sort of overdone but I didn't mind it. Bar scene seemed ongoing when we first arrived but petered out by the time our dessert came. Maybe they have good cocktails?\n\nOverall I'd come a million more times and would recommend to everyone!

Our first experience at G&tG was less than wonderful. Our party got food poisoning from undercooked scallops. We were extremely sick for a couple of days. We contacted the restaurant after seeing a doctor to make sure it was food poisoning. When speaking to the restaurant's manager we were 'assured' that no one else reported being sick the evening we were there. The physician said food poisoning can be a one-time occurrence if it is undercooked and does not kill the bacteria. Therefore, other incidences may not have occurred as the other dishes may have been cooked thoroughly. That being said, we were given a gift certificate by a friend and decided to give it another try. We arrived and were seated quickly, but this is when things started to go south. It took more than 15 minutes for a server to come to the table with water and another 15 to place our order. It was early in the evening so although it was busy as usual, the restaurant and its staff weren't slammed. We tried courteously to get a waiter's attention, first by motioning, then by yelling towards the staff as they walked by. Nothing worked - basically because the environment is too 'lively'. We finally had to interrupt the waiter serving the table next to us (whose conversation we could hear the entire time as the tables are too close) to request that a server take our order. This time we ordered a variety of dishes that were recommended to us by the server - believing that he would probably know the most popular dishes ordered or the chef's specialty items. Since we enjoy all types of food, we went with his suggestions. The food came timely once the order was placed, and while it wasn't the worst we've had, it wasn't the best. In every dish there were simply too many flavors competing and over saturating the basic ingredient. In one dish, it was impossible to even determine what the main component was - and it was meat. There are just too many options in the city to give it a third try.

Lived up to the hype, and also to the warnings that it is LOUD in there! Even for a late dinner, the place is packed to the rafters and the bar is bustling. Once we got seated (don't bother coming too early before a reservation-- too busy, and the bar is cozy and crowded) we dug into some small plates, including the miso bread, roasted beets, and an oyster plate. What more can be written about this place? Yes, it's as good as the hype, if not better. It is well worth the hassle to get in. Pure joy and fun.\nWhat I did not know is that on many dishes you can get half orders, which allows you to try more dishes or if you ate not a big eater allows you to order without fear of being unable to finish a dish or waste food. \nStarted with a half order of cauliflower. Food orgasm, ( hence the title). It was incredible. Nothing like the velveta covered cauliflower my mom made me eat as a kid. Who knew cauliflower could taste titis good. Half order was perfect. \nNext up: halibut. If you are a true halibut lover this causes some conflict. The dish is delicious and a bit on the sweet side. So if you are a fish purist, this dish is over prepared. But still delicious. Finished with the butterscotch Budino ( second food orgasm of the night) OMG. Just OMG.\nYes I will fight the crowds to return. No question about it.

I returned for my fifth visit in 3 years and this remains my absolute favorite restaurant in Chicago. I am told there is still a substantial period to gain reservations but twice now I have been fortunate to grab a cancellation when I have been in town. The base menu remains pretty much the same and thankfully so. I have developed my own list of faves. I have entertained different business associates each time and first experiences each. They come away with huge smiles and glowing reviews. The restaurant is a tapas-style menu but the selections, portions, and experience are anything but. Stephanie Izard has a gift mixing flavors and textures that make even something seemingly as simple as broccoli or a pork shank a gastronomical delight. If you have the good fortune to secure a table, you will not leave disappointed. The food is superb. The staff and ambiance are eclectic. The price is right. And the experience is unforgettable. This was our first time and we quite an interesting spot to sit right in front of the open kitchen. We had four dishes for two and the dishes were of reasonable size. All dishes were well presented and executed. The service was surprisingly great and fast. Even on a Wednesday night, the place was packed with people and the noise level was far too high to have a normal conversation. I'd recommend the place rather for a large group of people so that you can order several dishes.

Boisterous, fun group ambience. Nice flavor compilation and each dish offered combinations selected by the servers to compliment each other. One impressive choice was the escargot raviolli could have been overpowered by the bacon but truly wasn't. Squid bruschetta was 1 favorite as our veggie friend wiped the goat mousse bowl clean, but each dish was truly delectable. Wish I had been informed of the H/C restroom as I was using my cane. Other then this minor comment the evening was everything I hoped for. I also purchased a GC for family to come this holiday and posted on FB for friends visiting to experience.

People who greeted us were very nice. We were seated right at our reservation time Server was very pleasant and very helpful explaining the menu as this was our first time. Drinks were good. All food dishes were nothing special. The amount of ingredients (garnishes & Sauces) ran together and there was no way to appreciate the dishes. The goat empanadas could have been chicken for all we know. Walter's chicken was underdone and did not separate from the bones at all. The calamari was rubbery - but the bread and cheese it came on was great. The only dish we all liked was the sweet potato dumpling. Noise level was so loud we could not hear each other. Food was blah. Not sure why it is so popular. Perhaps people just want to be seen at the 'in' place.

Well let me start off by saying the interior was amazing. I loved the layout and design. It was warm yet sleek. For appetizers we got the corn bread and the fried oysters. The two of them were probably my favorite items that we ordered that night. The bread came with two different sauces, so yummy. The oysters were served on curved spoons. Not only did it look cool, it tasted amazing . I ordered the calamari bruschetta and my friend ordered the pig's face. The pig's face was delicious and cooked perfectly. I was taking a stretch by getting the calamari but I really wanted to like it. The ricotta cheese with goat bacon on the bruschetta was good but when I go back I wouldn't order it again. If you really like calamari though I would recommend it. We got two desserts but I can't remember the names exactly! One had a creamy kinda chocolate ice cream with hard shell chocolate on the outside with caramel popcorn and the other was a sesame one. Both were so rich and creamy I would recommend both of them!

This was our second dining experience at Girl and the Goat. While I did not think they could improve on our first meal, I was wrong. Every dish was memorable. We repeated the goat empanadas and bucatini from our first visit and tried 4 new dishes - the hamachi crudo, wood oven roasted pig face, grilled walter's chicken, and the escargot ravioli. Save room for dessert!

I came here to try the roasted pig face and I was not disappointed. I also remember watching Stephanie Izard on Top Chef and I wanted to try her cuisine. The food was creative, tasty, and not expensive. I like to try new things and unusual cuts of meat, so this restaurant was perfect for me. I did manage to get one of my more timid dinner companions to try the roasted pig face, and she declared it the best thing she had eaten during our Chicago vacation. I wish that I still lived in Chicago so that I could come to this restaurant more often. \n\nBy the way, as much as I enjoyed my experience at this restaurant, I enjoyed eating at Ms. Izard's other restaurant, Duck Duck Goat, even more.

Food was delicious! We got seated quickly with a reservation (heard you have to make reservations months ahead but we got lucky). The server was friendly and nice. She didn't pressure us into getting anything more or less. They recommend 2-3 plates for one person and 4-5 plates for 2 people. We ordered the roasted cauliflower, hamachi, pig face, goat loin, and ended with the popcorn dessert. You have to order the entrees all at once and they send it out based on how heavy the food is, which is great! This place was recommended by everyone who has been to Chicago and we definitely had to check this place out when visiting Chicago. Would definitely go again if I go to Chicago again.

Girl and the Goat is a perennial favorite for me and my wife for a date night. We were a little disappointed in the food and service this go around though. It was definitely an off night for the wait staff. They were in the weeds and it showed (being sat at 10:30pm for our 10pm reservation). Food came out sporadically in clusters rather than one at a time like it has been normally. And honestly, none of the new dishes blew us away this time. Girl and the Goat didn't meet it's own high bar this time.

Love this restaurant! One of my favorite in Chicago by far! Food is amazing: they have this unexpected ingredient mix that gets to surprise you in a big way by adding ingredients you would have never imagined that looked good together. Everything we ordered from the menu was great (from the shishito peppers all the way to the pig face!). I'm from Mexico, I came to this restaurant two years ago with a friend and since the first time I came I wanted to revisit here on a date. I finally had the chance to come back here on a date with my boyfriend and the experience was all I was expecting for: excellent and romantic ambiance, great food & wine, best service! Noisy, couldn't hear one another. Tables so close together the couple next to us were in our lap. Only one dish was tasty. The main recommended by the waiter was disgusting. Lamb smothered in lobster, crab and a sweet sticky vanilla sauce. Yuck. Plus waiter did not bring back change, even though requested. He assumed it was his tip. And bar service was no better. Impatient waiter, didn't give me time to peruse the drinks list.

We made our reservation months ago for a 6pm table on a Wednesday. We were held up in traffic and called to say we would be a bit late. When we arrived at 6:20, we were immediately shown to our table. (This is a big plus.) Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. At her suggestion, we ordered 5 things and some bread. We got the first item ( pierogies - fantastic) and the bread (taco bread) very quickly. Then we waited while tables seated after us began to receive their food. Finally we caught our waitress's attention and she went to check. She said there was some 'miscommunication'. Within a very few minutes, our next three items (ham frites, goat empanadas, and roasted cauliflower -- each delicious) arrived pretty much all at once. All the food was excellent and very innovative, wonderful flavors especially the roasted cauliflower and the empanadas. At the end of the meal, they gave us two free desserts -- one because it was our anniversary and the other (we think) to make up for the service mix-up. (This is also a plus - mistakes can happen and they did apologize and fix it as well as they could.) Overall, the food is terrific and we're really glad we went. It was a great meal. But I doubt we'll return because it is so loud that conversation is nearly impossible and because great food with less reservation wait time is available elsewhere.

Of four dishes: cauliflower, duck tongue, octopus and goat loin, only the duck was truly remarkable. The goat was tough and chewy. The octopus had a strong oaky charred flavor that wasn't for me. The PB&J dessert was nice but would be remarkable with the addition of dark chocolate. The portions are small and I'd recommend at least 4 dishes for 2.

All the food is inventive and tasty. My favorite had to be the goat confit with lobster and crab with a vanilla bourbon butter sauce. I stopped talking for a moment because I my tastebuds were so happy they needed a moment. The pig face is also amazing with the cilantro oil. Octopus salad was light and yummy. Goat empanadas with the strawberry topping was an excellent start.\n\nThe spin on Tres Leches cake with the sherbet and pink pepercorn sprinkle was complex and so was the pot de creme made to look like a cappuccino. I had the dessert offered for the first time which was a jello made with chateau de oranac (don't know the exact spelling but something about a cognac they 'accidentally' put grape juice into) with black berries accompanied by sugar-dusted blueberries on a sweet sour cream. Description was odd and old-school-jello-nightmare sounding, but the flavors just came together beautifully.\n\nThat seemed to be the theme. Ryan, our server said the chef just wants to make your mouth happy. So, don't think too hard, just trust that whatever comes out of that kitchen is going to taste amazing and will be cooked absolutely perfectly.

My fiance is a very picky eater and after dinner, he had difficulty picking which dish he liked the best, because they were all so terrific! While the atmosphere was nice, the food did not live up to the hype. Almost everything has a salty and/or vinegary sauce on it. While the menu is interesting, most of the items are overwhelmed by the sauces they put on them, and it is difficult to taste the main feature of the dish. This restaurant definitely lives up to all the hype. I have wanted to eat here for about 5 years, and finally remembered to make a reservation when my fiance and I were coming to town. We had a great surprise: our reservation was for the chef's table. The food here is absolutely unique and amazing- my fiance and I split 5 dishes and sampled 2 desserts, and everything tasted amazing, with unique flavors. We were also full at the end of the meal. The chef's table also provided great conversation with some of the chefs and a unique look at this very well run and well designed restaurant. We ate the cauliflower side dish, goat empanadas, sweet corn pierogies, the renowned pig's face, and johnny applecake bread. We had the PB&J and malt balls desserts (to die for- make sure you save room!) Not only was the environment and the food top shelf, the service was also second to none. Our waitress was very attentive, and when we told her my fiance had some food allergies, she took the time to mark out items on the menu and help us choose things within our dietary restrictions. My wife and I had an awesome time at Girl and the Goat! Our server Alexandra was excellent - informative, energetic and very passionate. The energy of the dining room was electric, and the food to match - between the two of us, we shared 6 plates, 4 cocktails... and our server even brought us a free dessert. Chef Izard has a winner in Girl and the Goat. I'm glad we were able to experience it on our last night in Chicago... 5 STARS!!!

Because it is set up like a tapas/small plate experience, it is a fantastic opportunity to try lots of dishes. Book your table as early as possible since tables fill up fast. Especially delicious was cauliflower, red fish curry, kalbi ribs and PBJ dessert.

This place was absolutely fantastic. I have been to Chicago a bunch of times but had never been here. It was so good we scrapped our last nights reservation to go back here and wait an hour for a table.\n\nIt is just very creative food that you don't find anywhere else, and every single dish we had over two nights was absolutely amazing. The twist that they actually do server goat dishes every night is awesome, and they totally deliver on the farm to table concept.\n\nWhatever you do if you are in Chicago go to this place. And just an FYI, across the street they have a sister place called Little Goat that was just as good for breakfast!

We booked this almost 3 months before coming to Chicago - it's been a must-eat for a long time! Our waitress was great (Julia), very engaging, made great recommendations. She did tell us to do 3-4 dishes, but we got a little overzealous and went with 5 (only there once, had to live it up!). The 5 were ALL amazing, but The Pig's Face (an absolute MUST) was the last dish to arrive and we could barely eat it. Next time would definitely do 3-4 dishes, as they are all insanely rich and flavorful.

Six friends gathered for a scrumptious dinner. We each picked two items, and one (we decided) had to be out of our comfort zone. Each choice was more savory than the next. We decided that our top three were: roasted cauliflower, wood oven roasted pig face, and crisp braised pork shank. Our service was outstanding, thanks for a great evening.

We went last night to have dinner for my boyfriends birthday. The staff was wonderful and friendly. I had made reservations well ahead of time and they gave us seats where we could see them preparing all the meals, it was a blast. Our waitress was really friendly and helpful when picking out dishes. The whole experience was amazing. To top off the night after we paid the waitress brought out and cake topped with ice cream covered in awesomeness with a candle. It was completely unexpected and totally appreciated. They took care of us and made our night special. We recommend this place to everyone and will definetly be going back.

We had a late reservation (8pm and our table was available early) but the buzz inside at G & G was so loud I think we would not have dined there if we couldn't sit outside. It took an extra 20 minutes past our reservation to get a table outside but a lovely night and well worth the wait to be outside and quieter. Our waiter was friendly but I think we all felt unattended to: it took a long time to get our drinks (which were delicious), to come back and grab our order and then our food took a long time to come out. We actually flagged other very lovely staff to help get our food. We all thought maybe they needed more wait staff out there. Our feelings were compounded by it being late and all of us were starving. Some of the food was truly outstanding: the chick pea fritters, the pasta brisket thing and the goat empenadas. AMAZING We had the sea bass and two of us wondered if something had gone wrong with it as to us it tasted a bit rancid. Two of our group found it good so we noted to our waiter it seemed odd to some of us, not sure he registered this in any way. We also had the chicken dish, which was good but nothing to write home about although it sat in a very yummy sauce -- the chicken didn't really absorb these tastes. The sourdough, grape bread was delish. \n\nI've loved the Girl and the Goat in the past (even though I will NEVER order duck tongues again) and the dishes that were great were savory and delicious: mouth watering. But, not sure I'll go back as it is getting colder and I don't think I can take the inside level of noise and lack of attention to us outside.

I was in ChicAgo for one night and Girl and a Goat came as a recommendation from several different people. My friend and I decided to give it a try and we were NOT disappointed! When we were sat, we were given the two seats at the open window to the kitchen. At first, I felt like we were the bad kids getting punished in the corner, but it wound up being the best seat in the house. The chefs ( Chris and Joshua) were hilarious and entertaining. We got to ask them questions all night and watch as food was being prepared. I've never had goat before so was a little hesitant but the goat empanadas were out of this world!!! Try the roasted cauliflower and for dessert the popcorn and malt ball ice cream was to die for!!!

I'm hopping on the Stephanie Izard bandwagon; this was a fantastic dining experience. My girlfriends and I made reservations a month ago and finally had our much anticipated dinner last night. We arrived a little bit early and had cocktails in the lounge area. The classic Aviation was a particular favorite. As a pesca/vegetarian, we shared the chickpea fritters, halibut & a roasted tomato focaccia-like bread. The dishes were small but excellently prepared and presented. We also had a rhubarb dessert, amazing! Our waiter Gary was very knowledgeable and friendly, and he allowed me to sample two white wines before I committed to a glass. My husband and I went to G&tG when we were in Chicago for a single night to see a show. We flew in from Houston, we were exhausted, and debated whether to cancel the reservation at the last second or not. I AM SO GLAD WE DIDN'T. We were greeted by incredibly gracious host staff, our server was THE BEST, so attentive and personable. We ordered: a bottle of Albarino (one of the best we've had), honey sambal brioche (tender, delish bread with the most amazing relish on the side); ham frites (turns out they were not serving them this night because the potatoes were not up to standard--we said absolutely no prob, but they sent out a delicious dish of roasted cauliflower); wood fired halibut (not a joke, I don't eat seafood. I only ordered it because my husband wanted it and I agreed to try it. I proceeded to scrape every last bit out of the bowl. LIFE.CHANGING.FOOD.); beautiful and delicious goat empanadas and of course, the not to be missed pig face. Oh! And the plantain cake for dessert. We left stuffed, but so, so satisfied. I told my husband I wanted to grab a pillow and blanket and live at G&tG. Seriously, from the moment we walked in we knew it was going to be a fantastic experience, and I can't gush enough about the phenomenal service, and of course, the best food experience I've had to date. We travel a lot, but this was hands down my favorite trip to date specifically because of this meal. If you're wondering if it's worth the hype--it's BETTER.

The wait staff noticed and asked if we would like to be moved to a table nearby coming available where we could sit closer together and hear better. We did move and had a very nice dining experience. Due to the design of the restaurant with mostly hard surfaces, it is hard to be heard over all the conversations taking place. Underwhelming! \n\nService: Waited 20 min w/reservations. \nWaiter was really nice & attentive.\n\nBread: Honey brioche - was okay. Salsa jam was kind of odd, I don't think it really fit the bread. GATG bakery is actually really good and their bagels are amazing but this bread was just so-so. \n\nBeets: I hate to preface with this but I'm going to; I've had better homemade beet salads. I don't personally enjoy beets that much but I figured 'hey of course I'll like them here.. I mean come on!' But alas they fell short. My friend who is a a chef (executive at a well known Chicago establishment) cooks me the only mushrooms I'll ever devour completely. I thought Stephanie Izard for sure could do the same thing with beets for me (#hype) - but unfortunately even the salad underneath lacked any real flavor. I wish there was some sort of vinagarette to balance the bitter greens or something. Nope just eh. \n\nGreen beans: Were they really good? Yes. Were they the best green beans I've ever had? No. Flavorful. Good. But that's it... Just good. I've had green beans with fish sauce before so I wasn't surprised or in awe.\n\nSurf and Turf goat belly: The most disappointing dish of the night. The lobster and goat belly were unfortunately not highlighted but drowned in a oily sweet sauce that muddled all the meat and flavors together into something really just blah. I was excited to try goat belly and what a let down. I wish the dish was more simple and let the meats stand on their own. I really didn't understand the oily heavy sweetness. It was too much; a bite or two and I was done.\n\nPig face: Delicous. Best dish of the night, thankfully because after the above three we were beginning to think we were crazy. It brought it up to three stars.\n\nDessert: We sat at the chefs table and watched dessert being prepared- nothing really stuck out to us to actually order it.\n\nWill definitely have to try a second time and more dishes to determine how I feel about this place accurately.

To our surprise again, we got the other chef's table. While we loved the food, the previous experience seemed more personal. We were able to have 1 on 1 conversations with the chef who helped us decide on which plates to order. It should be noted that this meal was much later in the night 10:30 vs. 6:30 so it makes sense that the chef's were already in their flow.

We are quite the foodies and Girl and the Goat met and exceeded that challenge! \n\nThe food was inventive and sumptuously delicious - the hardest and worst part was narrowing down the selection decision to a array of options that wouldn't cause you to explode...\n\nThe staff was also attentive and gracious, and seemed just as happy to have us as we were to be there ... \n\nAll in all, definitely the peak of our Chicago stay!

We were here for a bachelorette and the staff was more than accommodating. The general manager worked within my budget to put together a beautiful menu that was well worth the money spent. The goat empanadas and goat belly were good. The bread was fresh. There were a lot of sweet meets savory flavor combos which were good but kinda odd. Chili butter with jam for the bread was interesting but I kinda felt like they were opposing flavors. Blueberries with the empanadas was weird. When our server came over to take our order wee said we needed just a few more minutes to decide and she did not return to our table for over 10 minutes. She helped several new tables before circling back to us. Seems like she should have taken our order before introducing herself to a huge table of people who had just walked in. We had to sit and wait for her to answer all of their questions about the menu. The server was knowledgable about the menu but she basically raved about everything without giving recommendations. She suggested a wine that we didn't end up liking. A different server gave us the wine and she wasn't even sure if that was the one we had ordered. Since it was recommended by the waitress who was m.i.a., we weren't really sure either. We debated the wine for a while and decided we would just suck it up and drink it since it was recommended. After they poured our wine they put it on ice in a corner of the restaurant where we could not get to it. Our glasses were empty for about 15 minutes and we couldn't get to our wine. This is while we were sitting and waiting for our food (which took forever) and it would have been nice to drink our wine while we waited. The restaurant was insanely loud, we had to lean in to talk every single time. The portions were okay, but not really for the price. The goat was very good, don't get me wrong. But at the end of the meal we felt like we paid a lot for the dinner without much of an experience. The waitress paid more attention to the business looking people. I'm not quite sure why she was so 'busy' since all she did was take orders while different servers gave us our food. We left feeling kinda hungry too.

Interesting and imaginative food, some of which works well, some of which does not. \n\nBut the staff, from hostesses to servers, from manager down to bus boys/water-fillers, were augmentative and/or insulting. \n\nFor example, the server -- out server -- refused to take our order because she hadn't left us yet. The manager asked how we were doing and then refused to hear even a comment about the poor service. The busboy left and empty water bottle on out table -- it was empty when he put it down. \n\nThe food is certainly not worth the insult.

The food was superb, especially the fried clams (only wish there were more served), the pork shank, and the cauliflower. The duck tongue was probably my least favorite, yet it was still good. Girl and Goat seems to inspire controversy and I'm not sure why. I took my son there this past Wednesday and it was one of the best meals I've had in Chicago or anywhere else in the past two years. The service was terrific and not obnoxious. She introduced herself but forced nothing on us. Her one suggestion was an excellent one. The glass of wine I had was not overpriced and it was just right. Our bill, which could have been less, came to $200, with a generous tip. That's not cheap, for sure, but you can do it for less and it was worth every penny. Have the goat. Have whatever fish is on the menu. Have the duck and have a dessert. The scene is lively, without being intrusive. Maybe it's the Top Chef affect that creates too much hype. Whatever. Don't let that get to you. Just go.

This was our first time at the Girl & the Goat and it was definitely as good as the reviews we read on Trip Advisor. The mix of different fresh ingredients and flavors was a work of art. We had the octopus which had large pieces of fresh octopus, white green beans, pistachios, radishes in a mildly spicy Asian sauce. We also tried the halibut, which was our favorite. We finnished with the pork shank which was cooked perfectly. I wish we would have tried the pigface but we were too full. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was trendy and hopping. Six of us went together and ordered a variety of vegetables and a goat leg, which we had ordered in advance. Everything was extraordinary, worth all the wait and hype. Wow is the first thing that comes to mind. This was my first visit there. I have been to Little Goat and love that. The food was amazing, one dish better than the next.\nThe corn that was included in a few of the dishes was amazing. We had kolarabi (sp?) salad, chick pea fritters, a shrimp dish, scallops and short ribs. We also ordered the bread 'sticks'. Everything was delicious. I am not very adventurous when it comes to food so I was a little nervous just going there. I look forward to going again and again. Our waitress was delightful and helpful. The staff was very friendly and efficient. My only complaints are\n the noise level which made it difficult to carry on a conversation and the scallop dish we got for $19 had 1 scallop in it. It was delicious and the pasta in it helped make it hearty but we were disappointed because the scallop was delicious but 1 seemed a bit skimpy. Bottom line - get there, you will not be disappointed!!

It's a shareable menu, so we ordered 5 plates between 2 people. Out of 5 dished our absolute favorite was the roasted cauliflower (it was AMAZING); if the best dish on your menu happens to be a vegetable side, we have a problem. The pricing was reasonable, but the fish and meat dishes we ordered were just not all that great. One bonus...all the hot dishes came out piping hot! Ordered the kohlrabi salad, a good veggie dish but it was madly overdressed. The pork leg shank was really good (stayed piping hot while we picked at it), great dish to try for heavy meat eaters. Overall the service was excellent and it was a nice date night spot, I didn't feel cheated by any means, but I likely won't be back just because I know I can get better tasting food elsewhere.

Girl and the goat is one of my favorite restaurants. The food is unique and delicious and the service is great. My husband and I go for special occasions since it is on the pricier side (but not astronomical--you can get full at a reasonable price, especially if you're smart about what you order). The desserts are outstanding, goat liver mousse is a favorite menu item. Pretty much the only complaint I have is that some of the tables are spaced too close together for comfort. Initially, we were sat at a table which the hostess had to literally pull out in order to reach the booth (think about 8 inches between tables). Some may not mind that, however, and our request to be moved was honored without question so it was an easy remedy. If you're contemplating it, don't hesitate to make a reservation for Girl and the Goat. If you like a little more privacy when dining, perhaps call ahead to see if you can be sat at a more private table.

The halibut was good and one of the persons in our party enjoyed the calamari. The portions are quite small and they run around $17 per dish. They are meant to be shared. The Good:\nI enjoyed every sensation taste on the menu. Unless you are vegan/vegetarian, there is something for everyone here. The servers are very knowledgeable and answer questions in detail. Unless asked otherwise, they will 'course-out' your meal for you to provide the best sequential tasting experience. \nThe Not-So-Good\nWe made a reservation, and were seated about 30 minutes late. It wasn't a huge problem, since we enjoyed a drink at the bar, which was very crowded, but the host came and got us when the table was ready, which was nice. We could sit there an enjoy without having to check in every five minutes. The atmosphere in the main dining area is very cramped and noisy, which can detract from the tasting experience.
