I liked the architectural style of this grand old hotel. The bar service was excellent. The staff was very helpful. The suite was not air conditioned and was somewhat stuffy with the windows closed. With the windows open, this particular suite was susceptible to the noise from the street and the casino. Other suites on the beach, east side would not have the problem of street or casino noise with open windows. Wifi reception on my computer was sporadic and was on a pay-as-you-go basis through Orange.
The rooms were pleasantly decorated, spacious, and the bathroom had a really good shower. We paid extra for the breakfast when we booked. When we checked in this was not mentioned and we had to ask about the breakfast. At first they said we didn't have breakfast included, then they looked it up and acknowledged that it was in fact included. No big problem, but if we hadn't asked we wouldn't have been told where to go or any of the details.
Still one of the very best locations in this part of the Norman seaside, including Deauville. The room on 1st floor was directly located above the dustbin and supply area . Very noisy supplying and discharging started 4:00 a.m.
The location of the hotel. Very easy to check in and out. No reserved parking for hotel guests coming by car. Expensive breakfast.
We came because of Proust and becuase my Father had always wanted to come here. The setting is beautiful. The Hotel does not make enough of its Atrium and the tables are around the edge without a defined area to sit and have coffee or a drink. The Breakfast would have been excellent if the coffee and hot water had been hot. The caftiere was not full so only two cups of coffee possible. The food in the restuarant was abominable. I mentioned this to the Front desk but they said nothing. We have eaten a many of Frances' top restaurants and have been coming to France since the 1950'S. We ate the meal only becuase we had not eaten all day. The food is incredibly expensive and just nonsense. The rooms are showing their age with paint bashed etc.
Very nice and confortable room in a great location The only missing service is clearly a pool!
The service, the quality and variety of the food, the position, and the general feeling of being somewhere special. Nothing
We stayed here because of the Proust connection and were not disappointed. It is a grand old hotel that is absolutely beautiful. Staff was lovely and the breakfast was excellent. It is really, really expensive.
Breakfast was good; the room was comfortable if strangely decorated The fire alarm (practice?) which all but we seemed to ignore.
we had a four star room with fabulous seaviews, but 2 star service throughout the hotel. The hotel history seems to be what the hotel rests on which is not enough and very little attempt is made to enhance the experience. We were left feeling that it was our privelage to stay there and that there was no need to make any effort for the guests. The quality of the room luckily couterbalanced this. However, we would not return.
Courtesy of staff, comfort of facility, and value of money. The design of the rooms is outstanding. Hotel is one of the best I visited recently The choise available at breakfast.
The room was lovely and the restaurant was amazing. The location was a bit off the beaten path.
Very pleasant, relaxing 3 night stay. Very quiet, as our room was located at the back of the hotel, away from the main road. (There were not may other guests staying while we were there.) The location is good if you have a car, both for the city centre and other places of interest close to Caen. Very comfortable clean room, lovely bathroom, excellent shower. Friendly, helpful staff. Breakfast was more than adequate and beautifully presented although limited in variety and probably not worth 15 euros - ours was included in the price. We had lunch in the restaurant on one day and it was a indeed a memorable experience! Definitely worth the money. After the second night, soap and toiletries which we had been using were replaced with new ones, which I thought was very wasteful!
Staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Room was very elegant, modern and tastefully furnished. Breakfast selection was great and perfect for our needs. Superb restaurant. Only one English TV channel, BBC World News. No sports channels or Sky News.
Superb restaurant. The bedroom was very stylish and comfortable. Good car-parking and with easy access to the ports Needed flannels (face-cloths). Coffee making facilities in the room would have been helpful. These were minor imperfections
The bedrooms were well designed and the beds were very comfortable....The restaurant was amazing for dinner with high class french cooking
Externally the hotel is like a factory unit but inside it's an oasis of charm and refinement. The hotel has a famous restaurant which, alas, is closed on Sunday nights.
Best food ever! None
The courteus and cooperative attitude staff, quality of the restaurant, good service, parking Slow, almost unusable WiFi internet in the rooms
Location was convenient, in that it was close to the train and bus stations, but the surrounding area was a bit dull (10-15 minute walk to restaurants and old town)
Very spacious, well located. Perfectly fine for an inexpensive place to sleep. Very friendly staff Very, very cheap feeling furniture. (The cabinet panel covering the dishwasher fell on my ankle when I tried to open it.) I'm also not a fan of bathrooms with no shower enclosure.
Large rooms for France. Recommend the restaurant open 1 hour earlier.
At first we thought it was too far out of the town but it was an easy drive and quieter than a hotel in the town would have been. We liked the attic room tho' s lift would have been nice! Buffet breakfast was good if a bit expensive.. The restaurant was closed on the Sunday which was a nuisance. We had to make do with some food we had in the car as we did not want to go into the town to eat.
Location, facilities, room with balcony, surrounding area.
the pool and reception no
Quite close to town.
Very noisy outside late into the night. Duvet too heavy and therefore too hot
Hotel easy to find clean and tidy rooms staff very helpful No real bad points
Proximity to centre of town terrific. Underground car park very convenient. Easy access to restaurants, shopping and Chateau.
Room (327) facing courtyard-very quiet despite city centre location.Excellent bed & opaque curtains-slept well. The air-conditioning was turned off.No fridge in room.Hot food not replenished at breakfast.
Car Parking was convenient and so was the postion of the hotel. The restuarant was expensive and poor quality by comparison
Welcoming environment in the hotel. Comfortable lobby, nice and friendly service.
location,room,breakfast,room service and staff excelent
friendly staff easy parking cost
Happy that the reception staff spoke English and were helpful in booking taxis and advising re local information. I did not like the fact that I was unable to get any food before 7 p.m. in the hotel or in fact in the town. I had been travelling all day and there was nowhere to eat anything. Even the hotel's room service was not available in the afternoon - not until 7 p.m.
The location was good, and on Sunday morning there was a market outside.
The service overall was predominantly very good, especially at the restaurant. On arrival we came down for a drink after check in, we were kept waiting about 20 minutes before we were able to get a drink, I had to ask her her 3 or 4 times during that period,This was the only blip, the service thereafter was very good from the reception desk.
was wonderful and friendly. Diner was outstanding! too much rain...but I guess you cannot control
Quiet, parking possibility, very good situation
Superb food and service
Outstanding food, excellent staff, wonderful atmosphere, good location. I first stayed here about 15 years ago and the level of service and quality of the food has been maintained with the same level of excellence and care - an outstanding tribute to the dedication and care of the management and staff at Le Dauphin.
Very friendly and helpful hotel staff. Excellent location very close to old city centre, shops and restaurants. Wonderful buffet breakfast. The 'standard' room was a bit on the small side, but ok. We had enough room for the 2 of us.
Excellent location for town of Caen. Good for shopping. Parking a problem. Breakfast not good value for money. Nice hotel overall but for a 4 star rating needs a bit more. Bathroom very sparc with accessories, hair dryer very poor wall mounted. Bar expensive for drinks.
A high standard hotel in an excellent city centre location. Good parking.
Hotel is clean, quiet and has very helpful staff
Simple, efficient, nice view over Houlgate (from some buildings/rooms, not all) No reception service in the evening. The hotel staff left our key and info package for us to pick on arrival locked in a box outside reception with a code unknown to us. Luckly the parking security knew the code and could open the box. If he wasn't there, I do know how we could have known that the key was in that box. Strange system and no information given beforehand.
It was a wonderful, quiet getaway. Not easy to get to if you don't have a car but terrific for walks into town to nice restaurants. Also great to walk from town to town on the beach and to take a nice lunch in other coastal towns. Really overall couldn't have been happier with the experience. And the view was breath taking. Everything great about France was there. Tfhe hotel was experiencing some trouble with water for several days and water use was spotty. Never went without for long but I did have a shower cut short.
The room, the view at the pool, the location, up on a hill with seaview, eventhough it was a little too far to go to the beach by feet. It was a little too bad there wasn't a double bed in the bedroom, instead of the two separated beds.
Cosy, quiet, peaceful, clean and perfectly functional little house. Nice view, nice short walk to restaurants and shops. Good spa center. Price for spa a bit too expensive.
Very quiet setting near the center of town. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The costs of the spa facilities was steep in relation to the room cost.
In all a very nice hotel. The room though small had superb beds, and the bathroom had all the facilities including a bath and shower . It may only have a 2 star rating, but our experience was way above this.
Very convenient for the Ferry Port, clean and with friendly staff Bedrooms are small, some have inadequate windows, and they tended to be difficult to ventilate in hot weather.
Closeness to beach the room was very dark, a cold blue. It was claustrosphic.
it was a basic room with basic service and basic room details. we werer initially told the room would be available at 1.30 pm.So we came back at 2 pm and told the room would not be reay until 3 pm!? Un acceptabe???
The hotel was clean and pleasant and also near the port which was very convenient because we had an early ferry. The only bad point was that the hotel booked us in on my first name therefore they could not find the reservation easily.
Efficient check-in, clean warm room, in great location for ferry travellers
Good location for the ferry port. Overpriced with bathroom in need of refurbishment.Parking charged for three motorcycles in one space
Proximity to port. Quiet hotel, very clean. Front desk staff very friendly and helpful. Restaurant no ambience...waitress bad tempered, carpets very threadbare. Dogs allowed in restaurant.
Ideal for the Port which was reason for my visit. It was a bit pricey to park my motorcycle in the secure car park considering I just put it in a corner not even in a designated bay
the hotel staff was very courteous, quick to respond to my questions. The food was excellent and the wine selection very good. The room was small but I was travelling alone, so it was plenty sufficient, comfortable and clean.
Good location Car park is very difficult to use (very tight entrance, exit and little room).
in the city centre noisy if room on the side of the street
the constant helpfulness and charm of all the staff - they were always there to help. in fact we arrived one day early so had 4 nights and they were able to accommodate us - paid extra and had a deluxe room which was great. nothing at all
Very conveniently located and comfortable room. Excellent breakfast. Helpful staff.
We were only there to sleep a few hours, but it was a nice hotel. Breakfast was nice too. The young man at the desk was incredible! Very difficult to find even with the car navigator, hotel maps, map24 etc. If you don't know Caen, the minute you get in the city, call them on the phone, they speak English perfectly, and they'll guide you in.
The location, and the reception staff went beyond their duties to help us during the strike action.
very comfortable and the duty manager was extremely polite and very helpful very difficult to find even for residents who very kindly offered to escort us. Much clearer directions with greater information particularly about being able to use vehicle on pedestrian access
Facilities, staff and breakfast buffet all excellent. Initial approach to hotel by vehicle was ackward as it required us to drive down a bus/taxi only lane but once we figured that out, everything else was ease. On-site parking is available in a secure underground garage but it is limited so book ahead.
staff where excellent
Spacious room, very friendly staff and secure parking
Staff welcoming and helpful.Have a bit of chip on shoulder as my bank card was used in Oustreham before our arrival in a restaurant in the same town so a bit concerned about security so paid cash for everything. Rooms were cold and heating difficult to set. Coffee mugs really stupid- no handles- burnt fingers unless you wait for cold coffee. Restaurant bit to upmarket for rest of hotel- menu not available in English.
Comfortable modern facilities throughout the hotel. Bedrooms where functional, comfy bed, tea and coffee making facilities, tv. The bathroom was clean with a powerful shower, good size cubicle and complimentary toiletries provided. The only dislike was the mugs in the rooms did not have handles and so were impractical for hot drinks.
Everything, The staff were very friendly. The hotel looks new and everything was very well done. The room was lovely and had every amenity, including tea/coffee making facilities, which is rare in Europe generally. We will definitely stay there again. Absolutely nothing
We thought the rooms, showers, cleanliness were very good, the staff were helpfull and charming . We had chosen the hotel because it had a lift & this helped with the temporary immobility of my husband I felt there could be a place in the room to put ones discarded clothing, as we prefer not to hang things in wardrobes for fear of leaving them behind. We also thought that the menu was overpriced and insubstantial
The hotel is very comfortable. It is located close to the D-Day beaches (Sword Beach is 5-min drive away) and a 15-minute drive to Caen. The restaurant has great food at good prices. Staff are very friendly helpful.
Top quality at reasonable price. Obliging staff and ,although not cheap, very good food. Perfectly located for Caen ferryport.Would happily stay again.
One of the better hotels I have stayed in, it ticked most of the boxes. Clean,Friendly, Helpful, Location etc. The rooms were too hot, the air conditioning unit did not work it continually blew out heat.I switched it off and slept with the window open
The room is in good sizeand internet is perfect no
Friendly staff,excellent location
excellent location, clean and modern and quiet
central location, overlooking a square with trees and flowers
Town Centre Location was very good No parking, however public underground opposite
Proximity to the airport was important, we enjoyed the breakfast at the loby restaurant as well.
Location, modern, clean no
The staff were very helpful and the rooms were cleaned with fresh linen everyday. The hotel is very central and there is a short walk to shops, food, restaurants. Breakfast is reasonably priced and car parking opposite is also reasonably priced for 24hrs. It would have been nice for the hotel to have a restaurant for evening meals and a better bar area. The rooms lacked comfortable seating.
The behavior of the rep was very good. And they can speak English very well. I wish they serve only boiled egg at the breakfast.
Was in the area of Normandy American Cemetery
They were very friendy staff and very comfortable quiet rooms, we had breakfast which was good
Good cooking. The wall between rooms is too thin and noisy neighbours can be disturbing.
staff assistance, location not really
bathrooms need renovation no elevator no survailance of the parking and a sign waiving responsibility for theft out of cars creates an unsafe feeling
Well located to access both caen and Normandy although avoid travelling at rush hour, good food although a little pricy and service was poor Might have been unlucky with the staff on duty but most of them seemed very miserable and not inclined to help
Quiet location. Large(free) car park. Very helpful staff. Excellent buffet breakfast. Easy access to Caen city centre via Twisto tram service. No room safe/mini bar available, but these were very minor when compared to the many postive aspects of the hotel.
Wireless Internet was down two days, as a business that was difficult.
quite in the evenings therefore good for sleeping in peace too quite, too far out of the city centre, although there is a nearby tram station
A great location with easy access to the Memorial Museum and the Normandy beaches. Given the reasonable price, we were pleasantly surprised to find this hotel to be so updated, clean and accommodating. The restaurant was another bonus both for breakfast and dinner.
Free parking, large clean room, and comfortable bed.
The ability to cook in if I so desired. The room was clean and relatively spacious, the bed comfortable, the shower superb. The hotel was too far removed from center city, and wanted to charge me 10 euros simply to give me access to the phone line.
The price, the location, the kitchen facilities No housekeeping during the stay
I loved that it had a kitchenette. The rooms were very clean. The hotel was close to everything without being downtown. The only thing I did not like was the bed. It was suppose to be a double bed but it was actually a bed under a bed.
Very comfortable and quiet no electric kettle or tea cups only problem
Location - finding it was easy and close to bus, tram & shopping. Parking - enough on site. Friendly hotelier with good English. VERY clean! Not spacious, but comfortable. No English TV channels - some English news channels like Sky, CNN or BBC would have been nice. Tiny espresso cups, can't have a 'normal' cup of coffee.
The appartment was very clean although furniture outdated. Concept was good Short checking-in hours - 2 hours on a weekend!
convenience of a kitchen for small meals no laundry facility
The price of the room The room layout
The hotel was fine;however, the staff only worked until 1900 and I arrived late the night of check-in ... but the staff left keys to the room out for me. Not daily room cleaning service.... no fresh towels the second day.... no toilet paper, shampoo, etc....
This was an ideal stay for a one night stop over with the kids (4&6) in the family room.
Pleasant and friendly atmosphere. Safe storage for our bikes. Helpful staff. Our 4th visit there.
It was conviently located in the town near to the castle (although we were only passing through on business). It was also close to some excellent restaurants. Good budget hotel. For some reason it took ages to pay, and the hotel didn't accept American Express (although the receptionist didn't know this). We left before breakfast, so I cannot review it.
Good location near city center and shopping streets. Close to the tram that comes from the train station. Close to the bus stop that goes to the Caen Memorial. It's definitely a budget hotel - nothing fancy. My first room had a weird smell and also the wifi did not work. I was moved to a room on the ground floor which was a bit better.
I liked that I was able to come and go from Hôtel Des Quatrans even late at night. It was also nice to be able to leave my luggage in the lobby before check-in and after check-out.
It was located in the heart of Caen, only a minutes walk from the centre. The bathroom door was a bit strange. The door has a see through glass panel so you could see anybody who just happened to be sat on the toilet!
Rooms were clean and though small and basic, were comfortable and what we expected for two stars. The shower was good. The associated restaurant next door was superb. The breakfast buffet was, again, basic but nice. Our room got the afternoon sun, which might be nice in the colder weather, but was sweltering in the summer heat, without fan or air conditioning.
Ideal location for Central Caen, close to the shops, resturants and nightlife but not so close to interupt the peace and quiet of the hotel, bar was open late and provided a nice atmosphere for us and some wwII vets to have a drink and chat Unable to meet of request for twin rooms but understood for the period
The location of this hotel is very convenient. The bathroom was big, bigger than the room which seemed a bit strange. I think the photos of the room on the Internet do not really reflect the actual quality of the rooms in general. I saw two rooms and both were much shabbier than the photographed room. There was cigarette burns in the bed cover and the bed itself needed replacing. I have stayed in other two star places on my trip and they have been much better than this for the same money. I was disappointed that the hotel information was so misleading.
The hotel is centrally located, with restaurants and shopping close by. We used Caen as a stopover on our way south, and we found the location and town itself convenient. Free parking was a nice perk, as the town seemed quite heavily congested. Rooms were spartan but clean, and beds relatively comfortable. Quite a lot of noise from the bar (we were situated on the ground floor) but this did stop at 10pm. Breakfast buffet small but adequate.
