Staff were excellent. Small room, high bar prices, cold water in the morning.
A beautiful hotel in really lovely surroundings. The spa is fantastic and the breakfast was delicious. Surprisingly one of the pillows in the room was dirty and the rubbish bin in the bathroom had not been emptied. However the good points more than made up for this and I had a wonderful stay.
We had a good room for the price payed, but in addition to the accommodation guests were allowed free access to the spa which meant we had terrific value for our money. Guests are also offered the option of checking out late to enable over-night visitors the chance to use the facilities. I was a little disappointed in the cooked section of the breakfast , but other snacks and afternoon tea purchased at the hotel were excellent.
* Beautiful setting and surroundings * We had a very good room * The was also excellent * We only had breakfast but it was also very good
all good very expensive resturant
The fact that its in the countryside and its tranquil. no
Dinner in the Restaurent I'm afraid that the Cooked Breakfasts tended to be on the cold side. It was very cold outside but some windows were opened never the less. The bathroom shelf was for some reason erected over the Lavatory Basin. To prevent Toothbrushes etc. from falling into the Loo we had to use the Window shelf for our things. Also the shaving light was to one side of my face leaving me to shave partially in the dark. Overall though we liked the Room.
Relaxed yet special
This is an easy going, smart hotel set amidst beautiful English countryside. The gym and spa facilities are state of the art. Highly recommended.
Location Room very basic. Room facilities not as listed so had to ask and some still not available ie trouser press. Leisure facilities extremely expensive.
The Tudor Parlor is a great room. The Tudor Parlor is right above a grandfather clock which chimes very loudly every hour. The restaurant food is average - don't expect gourmet.
Lovely hotel, great atmosphere, nice bar and restaurant. Food was absolutely delicious! Staff friendly. Very noisy. I had read about the noise from the road but thought it would be allright since I am not that difficult but the noise from the road is bad. It's an old building with single glazing on a busy road. Noise from the restaurant below in our bedroom as well. You could almost hear what people were saying. Still, very lovely hotel with great food, drinks, rooms etc. but the noise is there.
The rooms were of a high standard of decor and cleanliness didnt like being told where to sit for breakfast?
Excellent food and a really comfortable room
Historic, friendly, easy to get to, staff very helpful. The food was very good, relaxing, a bit expensive, but worth it.
We were upgraded to a four poster room on arrival. Extremely old and attractive hotel with lots of history. Breakfast was poor and thought it should have been served in the dining room and not in the bar which is ok for a meal in the evening. Hotel is on a reasonably busy road but not really a problem.
Lovely old inn, beautifully presented and furnished. Excellent food and attentive service. None
The friendly staff, the clean rooms, pleasant surroundings.
Friendly and helpful staff, comfortable room, excellent kitchen Not much to do in the village
The bed and bedding were amazing! In fact I meant to enquire about the make of the Duvet and cover, also the pillows! If someone could let me know, I would really appreciate it!
Food and service superb Traffic noise woke us up maybe secondry glazing
An interesting hotel set in the most beautiful countryside. The rooms were far from the A3, & when the new bypass is opened it will have no passing traffic. The hotel was a little run down, but clean and acceptable
In general the staff were outstanding. The manager, Denise was exceptional. A bright and cheerful person as well as helpful. Free wi-fi would have been a real plus. A small refrigerator in the room also would have been a big plus. This is a 2 star hotel so these items are iffy, but perhaps these items might have made it a 3 star????
Good evening meal The carpet didn't look like it had been hoovered very well and the bathroom could have been cleaned better.
Very comfortable. Large room. Friendly informal staff. Brilliant value for money. I got the impression that some of the staff were a little under pressure and not too happy in there job. This was either through poor training or bad communication from the management team to keep staff informed of what they should be doing and there responsibilities and also letting the staff feel appreciated.
We arrived quite late at night and were greeted by the night porter who showed us to our room and it was first class wit all the facilities required and after an exellent breakfast we checked out with no problems .I would recommed the Devils Punchbowl to anyone without hesitation.
At £58 for two people, inclusive of Bed and breakfast, you really can't complain. The room was functional and comfortable, breakfast was fantastic and the hotel is within easy commute of London. We recommend it. The room could do with a little diy but that's all. Great value for money.
Only an overnight stay but a clean room and a nice breakfast was all I wanted and it was what I got. .
Position Hotel in need of renovation
Food was really good Tv only had 4 terestrial channels!
The food we had was excellent. The hotel was warm and there was plenty of hot water.
We really liked the friendly atmosphere and the level of comfort and cleanliness. The restaurant served excellent food and the English breakfast was just what we needed! Overall we had a lovely stay. The only thing I can think of to comment on is my wife's slightly overpriced starter.
Very smart, excellent food.
A clean and modern up grade on an old country pub.Delightfuf reception, wonderful decor. excellent food., the front bar is warm and friendly and used by the locals. the Inn islocated on the road through town & so is subjected to local traffic noise.
Mainly the location. The Spa facilities were quite pleasant. The breakfast was very poor for the price paid. Only two fruits (grapefruit and prunes - not everyone's favourite), by 9.30 am they had run out of croisant (and no apology offered!), toast was grill it yourself on a very ancient toaster which took ages and the fried food was quite fatty. If you wanted a healthy breakfast you were out of luck!
the location and ample free parking, but..(see below).. 1. the whole place could do with a good and thorough clean from the serving display in the restaurant to the lovely but very dusty staircase. Does the place have a housekeeper? Being old is no excuse for it appearing grubby. It could and should sparkle. 2. the room (no 3) was very noisy from the adjacent staircase, corridor and other rooms and especially from the street.3.Breakfast ending at 9am is unreasonably early except perhaps for businesspeople, the plus side is that the staff who, although they had cleared away -at ten past nine were sympathetic and found us some food.
The hotel met my expectations in view of the room charges.Had it been more expensive we would have taken a different view. The staff were effecient and friendly. Our room had been recently refurbished but did not have any personal touches and was rather like staying in a travel lodge which did not meet with the idea that the hotel was in any way Georgian. The reception needs a complete make over and the owners need to decide what the decor is to be as there is not flow to the hotel. There was no sense of identity.
The bed had a nice firm mattress and a bath that filled it very qucikly with hot water. When we arrived at 2.30 pm we asked about bar food we were informed that we could order room service implying we could not order food at the bar at that time. We were told to pay straight away but we were never given a receipt. We were then informed where our room was when we got there it was a twin room that smelt damp with dirty walls. We asked to change rooms initially the receptionist tried telling me that we had booked twin rooms and they had no more rooms left in the hotel. We had not booked a twin room and I had the confirmation slip with me. The receptionist then changed our room to a more acceptable one. However when we went to take a bath there was lots of scum, the sink and taps, tiles were dirty. Bar v small not a tidy tidy area.
Recption and staff were very good at addressing problems, of which I had two, rectified The fire alarm fell while having a bath and the ballast came raining down. On the third night I awoke very cold at 4 30 and ended up ahving a bath, , on returning to the hotel to retire it was mentioned and the duty manager turned the heat up for me and I had a warm nghts sleep. I did try to find the register the next morning it was not visible.
Lovely hotel in the middle of this pintoresque town with free parking facilities and spa (swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi). Clean with no luxury but big and quiet rooms.
bed and shower were great room could do with a repaint/refresh
a comfortable stay in every way
very nice clean room not as near to town as advertised, had to get taxis, nearer a mile and a half than half a mile
Excellent service from the reception manager. Lovely, new "asian" furniture in lounge. Maybe trouble with parking if hotel is full. Twin beds in room 6 - were not quite long enough if you are over 6' Initially there was a discrepancy with cost of room, as manager quoted £75 for stay, but I had written confirmation from email of £65 per night. He had to telephone his boss to check amount to be charged - but it was resolved that I pay amount quoted on email.
Breakfast ok.Service just about adequate. Very noisey from main road.Beds not very comfortable.Staff not very hospitable. No serviettes on the table.
The attentive staff No extra lock on the inside of the door
The hotel was very clean and comfortable Breakfast was unpleasant. Overcooked and cold.
Clean and quiet None
Clean and very convenient for my business trip. Breakfast fine. Blind in the bedroom didn't close so light from the road intrusive. Several labels in bathroom warning of £300 fine if any solids except toilet paper were put down the toilet!
Decor beautiful with spotless rooms and polite service None
Clean and comfortable - generally good value Could do with a shaving mirror in the bathroom
Quiet room; comfortable bed; good shower - plenty of hot water; courteous staff; ideally located for our needs. Draughts from windows - even though they were shut
Staff very friendly and efficient
Friendly staff ,clean and comfortable
The quirky hotel decor
Great Staff magnificent Full English Breakfast Hotel currently being refurbished and some things not working properly. Still value for money though
Good breakfast nothing
lovely bar and lounge area, peaceful and good seating and lighting. Daily papers to read and excellent staff
It was quiet and comfortable Limited parking
Is being refurbished and some things dont work properly. Is good value though
Friendly staff Rooms need totally refurbishing although clean, took 20 minutes to run a bath
Loved the view form room 8. Nice friendly service shower was low for tall people. Would like bottled water in room
The hotel is very comfortable, and the receptionists are very friendly and helpful. No.
The staff is extremely friendly. I arrived on a Sunday evening, and although the restaurant is closed on Sunday evenings, the lady at the reception prepared me some delicious sandwiches ! The rooms are a bit noisy.
Lovely comfortable room with well positioned desk looking out over lawn and woodland. Comfortable bed and good bathroom. Lovely dining areas, nice terrace to sit on...all good. Not really got any. The food wasn't outstanding but it was tasty, speedily served and equivalent to decent pub food. Breakfasts were good.
The warm welcome from Liz was fantastic, I felt like I had stayed at the hotel many times, when in fact it was my first time.
Friendly, obliging and informative staff. Conveniently located to Charterhouse School. Toilets were poorly designed. No hook to hang clothes/towels, no mixer tap for hot/cold water in sink. Also, was unable to get anything to eat on Friday night. We were informed that the restaurant does not operate on weekends. If the restaurant is closed, a 'coffee shop' or snack menu should be available.
Friendly staff, character hotel, fridge in room, nice communal facilities. Drinks in bar expensive.
Free wireless, gym, good breakfast. Nice surroundings and clean room. None.
Very nice and comfortable room, the staff were very friendly indeed and helpful. The room was very cold as there was no heating turned on until I arrived around quarter to eight in the evening and the room didn't warm up at all.
