The lady at the hotel found out that a mistake was done with our booking and that no room for 5 people were available for us. She rapidly found a solution and we got a room for the night. No assurance that our booking is still ok when we arrive at the hotel.
esay to get to, clean and tidy good value breakfast none
the room was clean. there was spare bedding. very easy to check in. liked having the code in place of a key inconvenient that the reception is unavailalbe between 11-17h as would have liked to leave a bag there during the morning.
Simple, central to La Rochelle
The close proximity to the centre of town, the marina and the Aquarium was wonderful, all within walking distance. Room was very clean and good value. Good for an overnight stopover. It was very impersonal, locked out until reception opened at 5pm and then, on check in, was issued with a code number which opened the front door. More like a boarding house as opossed to a hotel. Sensory lights in corridors a little creepy.
Hotel was within walking distance of centre and the fact that it had free parking was a plus for us. Very basic but clean. Receptionist kept answering phone and just asked for name and money up front for stay. No interaction at all.
very basic but cheap and easy walk to la Rochelle and with bars cafes and restaurants within a few steps of hotel as close to university rooms clean and functional but a bit grim
Ocean view was great. Breakfast was pretty good. Bit over-priced. Beach 10 min walk away. Hotel was a little bit run-down. Could be a lot nicer.
staff at the reception are fantastic.. they speak english well to communicate with us. where other hotels we had to try real hard to communicate in french and they didnt even try their english. the staff at the restaurant was pooring, we waited for 40mins and still didnt get no service.. it wasnt busy at all for them.. only 25% tables were taken. they really let the quality of the hotel right down. food wasnt too brillant either.. so we eat out on the next night instead. The branch in Brest airport is better by far in comparision to this one..
Comfortable bed. Clean room. Access to cliff path. Polite manager. Ample parking. Pleasant lawns. Caged swimming pool. Small, hard pillow. Poor breakfast service.Found on Isle de Re web site and annoyed not on Isle de Re as this was why we chose hotel.. Advertised cost of room 100 euros but charged 110. Advertised as room with country view but actual view was big tree and car park. Some guest reviews accurate for some of our experiences.
Family room for up to 5 people - good value for money. Very friendly/helpful staff on reception Family room would be a little small for longer stays
Very pleasant staff and good location if you want to escape from the hustle and bustle of the centre of the town
excellent location - very clean - excellent staff - relaxing and comfortable hotel.
Good to have tea and coffee facilities ~ very welcome. Sadly you couldn't take us last night and we had to stay at the Ibis instead ~ not nearly as good and we won't stay there again ~ at least, not if you can accommodate us!
We thought the view from the room was magnificent. The meals were reasonably priced and good quality. The staff were friendly and helpful. The way the sun shone on the faces of the diners in the evening in the restaurant was a bit unpleasant - might have been nice to have some shades.
Our room was a decent size and we could walk out of our patio doors onto grass at the top of a cliff overlooking the sea (however the tide was out til approx 4pm most days). We were right next to the pool and the staff were very friendly. Very nice beach. We did take a trip to St Martin which is approx half hour drive away and that was beautiful, lots of little bars and restaurants overlooking the marina, definately worth a trip. The location of the hotel spoilt our stay. There wasn't much around. Approx 30 to 40 minutes to the sea front where you would find restaurants, no stand alone bars, just restaurants. It was extremely windy when we went (August 2010) but that may have just been a one-off but overall the hotel was nice and clean and spacious.
the peacefulness the price per night is excessive for room only accomadation
The central location, the helpfulness of the reception staff, the parking facilities. The excellent room which made for a one night stopover. Given the wide range of restaurants in the town the lack of a restaurant in the hotel was not a problem.
Staff very helpful - made excellent 11th hour Saturday dinner reservations, though our first choices were fully booked. Elegant interior setting & rooms at a value price. Hotel at northern edge of old center city: relatively easy entrance & exit by automobile from out of town. No free parking provided: on street parking difficult.
Friendly and helpful staff and excellent decour and buffet breakfast I found it impossible to contact you to make my reservation by telephone but had no problem using your web-site to make the booking
Excellent location for shopping, visiting the old port/town and eating out. Room and bathroom were of a good size and in excellent condition. Staff were at all times friendly and helpful.
A very helpful front desk.
The staff where pleasent and helpful. For the money u pay the hotel should be clean and it was not, when u walked up the stairs there was a smell from the old carpets.
Hotel close to Old Town Both rooms on third floor, no lift Double room very small. Bed hard and 'squeeky'. En suite was separeted from bedroom by a curtain. Shower head had to be held as only in one position. Single room extremely small. No air conditioning. Bedsheet stained
Would highly recommend this hotel . Staff were welcoming, knowledable and v helpful about the region. Got the romantic family room which had lovely balcony . Children loved squeezing their own orange juice in morning. Location perfect .safe and cheap carpark just around the corner. no
Old style French townhouse/hotel. A lot of charm but not everyones cup of tea. Couldnt get satellite tv.
Very good traditional French hotel. Fantastic breakfast, homemade jams ,great patisserie ,good location centre of town but quiet.5 mins walk to seafront .No parking at hotel but secure public parking only a minute away. Would highly recommend(no air con but good old French shutterinhg does the job)
Central location 1 hotel was all locked up when we arrived at 2115,with a phone number to ring on the door.2.breakfast poorly supervised had to ask as milk etc kept running out.
Clean and tidy Room was a bit small for three people
Excellent location. None.
Great location, next to central market but quiet street. Nice older place with updated (but small as usual in France) rooms. Noon checkout time and very good breakfast till 11 a.m.on a Sunday! Nothing, really was great although no elevator or air con could be an issue for some people.
La Rochelle is a great place for a family holiday, and the hotel is well placed to explore the old town and port with beaches nearby. Great restaurants and atmosphere. One problem. Although the hotel staff were friendly the basin in our room was blocked and in spite of asking to fix it a number of times the problem was not resolved. This meant that the basin was unhygienic and often couldn't be used.
Spacious room and en suite. Nice comfortable bed. We were on the fifth floor behind the main hotel building, so it was quiet but we could still see the sea over the rooftops which was lovely. Swimming pool was nice and deep with amazingly comfortable seat shaped lilos. Perfectly located beside the harbour, very close to restaurants, the town and bus and train stations.
The location No
The hotel was very good and the restaurant... would have liked some help with luggage on departure ny mother is 88 and I tweaked my bag lugging the suitcases around to the car.!
Yes, we liked this hotel. It's loceted very good.
Excellent location on the quayside. Polite & helpful staff. Sometimes noisy night club behind hotel.
The location was super. Very close to the harbour and street entertainments at night. We enjoyed the poolside tables for reading etc. There was only one chair in the room - should be two. Breakfast poor value - no muesli, terrible machine coffee, the hot food was awful, marmalade always hidden away. In town, we bought a very good 3 course meal in the evening for less that we paid for the breakfast. Also, when we booked it was advertised as 13 euros, but we were charged 14 on departure.
Location was brilliant-very central but peaceful at the same time. Overlooking the port, close to the train station, aquarium, local amenities. Car rental on your doorstep. Staff very helpful.
The restaurant I didn't know abaut parking in this hotel
the location was too expensive for the rooms offered which were very basic.
It's Ibis, so you know what to expect: clean rooms, small but clean bathroom with shower and bathtub, no extras but the basics are just fine. The restaurant at the hotel itself offered quite mediocre and even poor dishes at medium cost. The staff were nice but I doubted their competence when it came to serving food. When I mentioned part of my dish was clearly overcooked, they just smiled and walked away.
We liked the position, the views and there was plenty of parking space. The buffet for entrees - the spoon handles had fallen into the food.
Quite typical french hotel in nice surroundings ,Good food at reasonable prices No lift to first floor could be difficult for people with large luggage but proprieter would carry cases if desired.
old mid 19th century house, recently refurbished, very good breakfast the restaurant offers a fixed menu if prior reservation is made. no other places to eat in the village
An attractive rural hotel close to a small town with a fine walk along the river The food in the restaurant was a disappointment
We liked the hotel location overlooking beautiful grounds. The hotel has a good, but limited and repetitive menu. Also, we found it difficult to carry cases passed a door at the top of the stairs, which opens over the stairs instead of the landing.
A nicely appointed room, windows that opened wide, lovely large comfortable bed, high quality all-cotton bedlinen, and a superb shower; all very clean and very quiet; free wifi an excellent addition; hotel has off-street parking and the location is ideal for anyone wanting to explore La Rochelle, Saintes, Cognac, or the surrounding region. The food was good, but the set dinner menu at the hotel restaurant was expensive for the limited options it offered; the town has a good bakery for anyone wanting an alternative to the hotel's breakfast, but is without alternate restaurant facilities; that said, there are numerous restaurants in St-Jean-d'Angely, only a few miles away.
Spotlessly clean, well appointed, individual and extremely comfortable and welcoming I did not dislike anything. An excellent little hotel.
The welcome was as warm as the hotel, which in January was very important. We loved this hotel. Nothing.
Ease of location, informality, excellent food, peaceful setting, and genuine welcome extended by everyone we met.
We had a wonderful stay, very nice room, affordable priceshelpfull staff and a good restaurant
Lovely setting. Good welcome. Menu presented to us in English which is always helpful and food was good. Nothing really to see or do in village itself.
The uncomplicated way the check-in and check-out took place
the closeness to the beach
Price of a bottle of water.. 4.40! 18cent in the supermarket!
Closeness to beach No car park
location Breakfast was very poor
Excellent location and friendly staff in a lovely town.
People were helpful, room was very nice and newly redecorated very tastefully.
staff excellant very helpful.Location. Restaurant Food very good, Room decor past sell-by date, small,. outdated fittings
Friendly helpful Staff. Convenient to Beach. Room not soundproof. Noise could be disturbing at times
no restuarant open at weekends
reasonable basic hotel in a good location.
Hotel recently redecorated in chic neutrals, comfortable, clean, very close to port and town centre. Choice of breakfast or just coffee and croissant. Double windows keep out street noise but then stuffy as no aircon. Dodgy hips avoid 3rd floor as no lift.
Good position, easy walk to all sites.Well refurbished, clean and spacious rooms. Near Aquarium with handy parking. Fantastic triple glazing...no sound from outside. Well pleased.
Very good location close to old port and shops/restaurants. The hotel has very recently been refurbished and so is very clean and fresh. Proprietors are friendly and breakfast good value.
The convenient location close to the old section of town and the promonard/port and seaside.
None Over-priced and very noisey at night.
Location, step out the door and you are in the heart of La Rochelle. Parking is well away from hotel, basic rooms and as it is very limited size inside there are no lifts to get to the rooms. If you are in any way restricted climbing stairs then this hotel is definately off your list.
Very good location
Location for ease of access to all areas of the town
Location is fantastic There is a very noisy bar next to the hotel - not the hotel's fault, but noise until 3 / 4am
The location worked beautifully. Staff was friendly. It is very loud at front but needed to keep windows open for ventilation, and the shower water temperature fluctuated dramatically.
Kindly staff, nice location for sightseeing nothing
Excellent and friendly service including late check in and allowing bags to be kept after check out. Clean and recently upgraded , bed very comfortable. Very central, delightful old hotel. None
the welcome arrival is great by giving us such good info about the place and accommodating nothing!!!!!
This was a repeat visit and the staff were very welcoming and helpful. We had a lovely room and the breakfast selection was excellent. not applicable everything was fine
I liked te friendly welcome te breakfast and te blue colourin of decoradtions and i liked te proximity to te railway and bus stations it would advde been nice to adve add tea madkin facilities in te rooms adnd te front steps need ad repair
the staff were very helpful, the hotel is ideally situated to explore La Rochelle and the car boot sale on saturday morning in the adjacent park was full of treasures! Value for money
good location could improve breakfast good secure parkig breakfast
Close to the market place and all cognac factories. And good value for the moiney. Cheap roomprice. Too small room and toiletroom.
Conveniently located between the station and the old town to permit exploation on foot during an enforced overnight stop due to there being no available flight on saturday.
Off road parking for motorcycle. Very friendly staff. Extra charge for motorcyle. Very poor breakfast.
Location Small room
Large rooms, good location, nice terrace and decor.
very spacious no nearby shops for food
Good value. Clean hotel. Friendly staff.
Clear, near to the port, little pool:o) In the centre of comercial zone.
The staff, breakfast, daily changing of towels and bed linen Its quite a bit from La Rochelle and car hire is recommended. The bus service however is more than adequate.
The Pool, the cleanliness of the room and the breakfast all the rest: the sanitary is really small, the kindness of the reception staff was missed, the cleanliness of the surroundings and the location of the Hotel is horrible!
We stayed in this hotel as we had an early morning flight from La Rochelle airport. The rooms are an adequate size for an overnight stay, they are clean. The hotel is located on an industrial estate out La Rochelle. Suitable for our requirements. Value for money.
Our stay was alright was disappointed when the receptionist wouldn't arrange coffee for us not good
The look of the hotel the bathroom
The toilet facilities in that they were in a cubicle all together resulting in a wet toilet after a shower
The breakfast was lovely. Unfortunately it was noisy and we could hear next door on both sides clearly.
Very helpful staff and excellent service. Good in-room facilities. Air conditioning a real bonus. Only limitation was a lack of a safe in reception large enough to take a laptop.
the location was excellent..the room was quite .....a good hotel in a beautiful city, but not for a week room was basic...no wardrobe..compact if not small rooms
Location is the best we have ever tried. In the middle of everything.
Hotel in an excellant position - Ideal for the various boat trips, shops and a lovely harbour location together with all the street entertainment. Unfortunately there was an undesirable fishy smell in the lobby and lift areas which obviously eminates from the fish resteraunt next door.
Very well placed, central hotel with plenty to see and do on the doorstep. Helpful staff, clean rooms (basic but comfortable), booked a triple room and got 2 interconnected doubles for same price which was good. Would book again for city break. Some rooms and shared areas looked dark and pokey.
The excellent service from the hotel sraff.
Freindly staff and a great Brasserie No
Staff were vey helpful the hotel was very clean The food was not to our taste we felt a louge to sit and chat in would be nice
Menu in the restruant was in English. Room was very modern and well presented No hairdryer
The overall experience was good and the staff were very helpful, especially the receptionist. None
Friendly staff. Clean. On a very big, busy roundabout, lots of noise from traffic and restaurant- unable to sleep with window open due to noise and air conditioning broken. Lights outside hotel very bright- kept us awake despite black out curtain. Wifi didn't work.
Friendly, and welcoming More guest facilities. i.e. hairdryer, iron.
Pleasent staff Room not hoovered
The restaurant was excellent and a great atmosphere seemed to prevail throughout the hotel.
It was comfortable and more than adequate. Nothing.
The room was modern and clean, the location was excellent. Where do we start, after staying in a Mecure before I know them to be a great hotel chain to use. However this was not my experience with this one. The rooms aircon was broken, not enough toilet paper and tea facilities were poor. Male resturant staff were rude, unhelpful and very snotty. We decided to eat in the hotel and the food was not value for money and quality was disappointing.
Good service, situation, close to everything, view No
Pleasant, comfortable. Good breakfast.
location was excellent within easy walk of town but quiet room was quite small and finishes were basic
The hotel has recently had a makeover and everything is very clean and new with nice colours and fabrics in the room. It is in a great location 5 min from town centre but quiet in the evenings. Parking is good. Staff very friendly. Nowhere to sit outside unfortunately.
Very comfortable. Pleasant helpful staff. Very convenient location for walking into Old Port and town. Away from the traffic so quiet
Friendly, helpful and efficient staff. Clean and good location. It was a shame about the noise from the building works opposite. Also, the shower door seal leaked which could lead to long-term floor damage.
The staff were helpful and friendly. Having secure parking facilities a great benefit. A standard room with double bed was fine for me as a single occupant. However, for two people I imagine the room size might feel on the small side.
The fact that the hotel is very central to all amenities - enjoyed the breakfasts, although expensive (would book room only next time). Loved being by the harbour and the staff were very friendly. Will return again. Free parking excellent !! Breakfast too expensive.
geographical situation within the city was excellent
Booked for 2 nights online but they only had me down for one and also I telephoned and asked for 3 single beds not a bunk bed! We had a double with bunk bed over not ideal for my sister and myself grrrrrr
Convenient to airport Room was small but cheap - quite noisy from main road
Breakfast was good value Room and bathroom were very small, also there was no lift.
There was a distinct smell of tobacco smoke at times coming through the shower vent into the room (33)
Ok for a brief stay Not good as a base for more than one night
Very clean, very nice staff, comfortable rooms Could do with a kettle in the room along with some cups ?
Going to the nearby sea side, visiting shops in the nearby Carrefour supermarket The check-in computer did not work
Convienience - just right for a night's stopover en route. The hotel was clean staff very helpful and friendly. No restrictions on time of registering. Breakfast more than adequate and the room pleasant and comfortable.
location was good for our visit bed extremley hard
Good stop over for the night' Clean rooms and service.
The upgrade to a saeview, pleasent view and calmness of the hotel
breakfast room / restaurant atmosphere was un relaxed.
The nice location and view over the sea The WIFI system was poor
position, friendly staff ,
Nice hotel with bit of old fashioned character right by the sea. We were given a sea view room although only booked a standard room. Good breakfast. Underground car park. 15 minute walk to restaurants through local park. Convenient to main roads. Friendly French reception and they spoke English better than my French! TV at reception a little noisy.
very friendly staff breakfast good nice walk to restaurants balcony & sunloungers good
Nice location Overhigh prices-super expensive brekfest
The fact that we could get a taxi to get out of there as soon as we arrived! Reception staff rude, family room was the smallest room we had ever stayed in, stuffy and hot, no airco, it stated that it's 10 minutes to town, yes, 10 minutes by taxi, not on foot. Cold and unwelcoming atmosphere. Nothing nearby, would never stay there again.
The view Separate toilet made for a restricted space, would have been better to incorporate it into the bathroom
Location, staff, price, Town of La Rochelle was a good "find". Room size a little cozy by NA standards
Great location. Walking distance to park and 2 restaurants / casino. Clean rooms and comfortable beds. Continental breakfast / buffet was also good. Free parking. Price was very reasonable. Rooms are standard (small) Eutopean style rooms.
We had a lovely room that overlooked the water. The patio was nice for reading under the umbrella
Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights at the beginning of october and had a fantastic time. what a cute little hotel! It's in a perfect location and everything you will want to enjoy on a short city break in la rochelle is literally right around the corner...2minute walk to the vieux port, 20 sec walk to some of la rochelle's best restaurants, 10min walk to place du verdun. room was quite compact but beautifully decorated and a very comfortable bed. the staff were lovely and very welcoming. what I liked most was that everything was immaculately clean, oh and the beautiful rooftop terrace. I would definitely reccommend this wee hotel very highly and encourage anyone going to la rochelle for a short break to stay there! I have very little to complain about here. the only thing I didn't enjoy was that our toilet was in a seperate room to the wash basin/shower room and you have to bend down every time you walk into the bedroom because the entrance is very low.(i'm only 5.1" so I just made it)
Great location ..A little difficult to find...New Hotel very clean and comfortable..Good breakfast and really nice owners..
Easy to find, car park straight outside front door, good value excellent location close to bars restaurants etc but set back in a quiet square.
Excellent breakfast and very friendly and helpful owner. The room was a little small for two people though adequate the a two night stay
The location was very central, staff helpful, good room, breakfast fine coffee / teamaking facilities would improve the stay
Very helpful and friendly owners None
It was clean , Great location .The Hotel is very tastefully done , modern breakfast was available, the staff were very pleasant . The room was to small , no wardrobe , no soap , shower cap or shower gel (although i did ask for a shower gel and got one) , it was noisy .We felt that the room was just to small and for 2 days it was ok but i wouldn`t go for a week or two .
The hotel was small, yet stylish. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful.
Superb location, very friendly family run hotel, crisp, clean, comfortable rooms. A great starting point to enjoy La Rochelle from and we would definitely stay at Un Hotel en Ville again. Highly recommended. Due to location parking is limited but public parking in front of the hotel is available. A consideration rather than a problem as we didn't have problems finding a space each day.
We had a lovely stay at Hotel en Ville- will definitely be back-its 2 minutes from the towers- and in a lovely quiet area too- the best of both worlds. It seems a lot of thought was put in to the decor etc- simple but we really liked it. Only thing I wasnt keen on was the ensuite- sliding door doesnt give a lot of privacy- but this was only a small thing and otherwise we couldn't fault the hotel
