Nothing It was freezing cold when we asked if the heating was going to be turned on we were informed it would come on next week (November) we asked for a portable heater they didn't have any. Room was dirty and horrible. We were booked I. A Superior room. My advice avoid like the plague.
If you are lucky you have a room with a view which is nice, but that's the only positive I can think of. Rooms on the 2nd floor are dark and hardly have daylight. Poor quality of restaurant service, not very clean and rather small rooms, very poor breakfast. This is not a three star hotel; they have stolen their third star and should improve to keep two star. This is rather a guesthouse than a hotel.
Parking was the deal breaker in our case. The breakfast was good, the staff knew English!
The hotel provided us with exactly what we wanted, inexpensive accommodation not too far from Santander. Comfortable and quiet. The uphill walk back from the village of Santillana could be a problem for some elderly people.
Staff friendly and helpful., and good breakfast for class of hotel.Hotel has nice poistion looking over the village and the countryside. Rooms were somewhat tired , and their was no air conditioning, this wasn't a problem in mid september, but could have been an issue in august and july
Location was just perfect, on a hillside overlooking the beautifully preserved Santillana del Mar, and just a few miles from the scenic coastline and a series of lovely beaches. Taking this into account and the height of the season, we considered the bed & breakfast rate to be fair value for money. Not wishing to venture out in the rain, we eat 'in' on our second evening and although the menu was relatively limiting and the restaurant almost deserted, we were very pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the food served. The waiter/barman provided excellent service. Our room smelt a bit of damp - most probably due to poor ventilation in the bathroom, which itself needed a bit of updating. We would have asked for a move had we been there more than the 2 nights. Inspite of check out stated as from 7 am, there was no receptionist on duty before 9 am, so a number of guests like us were left hanging about, despite other staff were in evidence. We may have only been delayed 15 minutes or so but had we been aware, we would have made alternative arrangements the night before.
good value great location
Friendly hotel, free internet access, basic food
Great romantic place to spend some days! Surrounding of Town Santillana was impressing. Also the included breakfast and the free bike rental was a gret service!
The place where it is located is lovely The room was not the same as in the picture. It wasn't bad but It hasn't window, only a skylight that you access by a kind of ladder
Nice hotel, nice people.
clean rooms, great breakfast, friendly staff, great design, Jacuzi! the Jacuzi didnt work and we actually got a call from the front desk telling us to stop using it because there is a drain., we discover that only after we unpacked and filled up the bath. we where not offered any compensation other then switching the room ,which like i said- was already to late for us.
The decor was stylish, the receptionist extremely helpful and we enjoyed a drink on the terrace in the evening. Little light and fresh air in room due to small window.
I toured the town The room I received had only tiny windows and was dark during daytime
Charme.Very quiet. Very nice staff. I really wouldn't like writing anything bad about this nearly perfect hotel, but...there was a long hair in the ham dish at the breakfast buffet.
Very welcoming hotel. Decor simply beautiful and uplifting. Staff were very efficient and caring. I think a restaurant would complete this beautiful hotel. No negatives, only that it would have been really great to have a restaurant on the premises.
It was perfect and a great value, and the breakfast buffet was excellent
Comfortable accommodation, good choice continental breakfast. In a lovely village setting, but don't be misled by the location -- Santilla del mar is not a seaside town
Lovely room, very comfortable. Big old style, extra bed in the room. Lots of space and close to town in park area. Parking available nearby at a cost of 2euro.
The hotel is a short drive from Santander & is very well located , 2 mins walk from Santillana del Mar old town and with plently of free parking. A lovely 17th century building which has been very tastefully converted to provide excellent accomodation. The owners & staff spoke English & couldn`t have been more friendly or helpful. Breakfasts were very good & offered a wide choice. Woken early (5.30am)each morning by rubbish collection--to be fair this is more of a general problem in Spain & does not refer specifically to this hotel.
Lovely location, luxury hotel, helpful staff, very interesting village, only stayed one night, but hope to go back next year. Because of the time of year, November, not many restaurants open in the village in the evening, the hotel itself didn't have a restaurant,. so would go back at a warmer time.
Easy access good safe parking English not spoken
The historic setting
Very comfortable, well furnished, restored hotel. Very helpful and pleasant staff. Noise carrying from other rooms and from kitchen
A beautiful, small, historic hotel with very good staff in the centre of Santillana. We had no dislikes.
An absolutely superb hotel. The staff were charming and helpful. The location is just superb for an off-season break (may be a little touristy in the high season). Beautiful village, beautiful room, public rooms perfect, stylish, comfortable, delightful and quite adequate for size of hotel (just 16 rooms). Bathroom large, spa bath lovely. Breakfast excellent. Lack of restaurant no problem, lots of restaurants in village, though in November many are closed. However, remaining ones included some gems. Within half an hour from Santander, could not recommend more highly. Excellent price.
I liked the situation, the charm and hotel staff the breakfast could be improved
smili,g persons especially in the restaurant; good food and recommendable
Lovely old world charm..lots of character: comfortable and very cosy: good breakfast choice.
Staff attempted to place us in a less expensive Parador stating that it was what Kayak had contracted. I showed them Kayka's e mail and stood my ground and staff relented.
Beautiful hotel. Very helpfull staff. Great Location. Well worth the money.
Splendid accommodations, large room, good amenities (including water pressure) in a historic setting, great location in the heart of the town. The concierge was very nice and helpful. The restaurant staff could not be described as warm and welcoming, and the "special dinner" of regional dishes was served in a very matter-of-fact fashion with no explanation, or interest on the part of the servers. Frankly, if I am fortunate enough to return to this town, I will dine elsewhere.
Although difficult to find in the old town, the hotel was in excellent location to see the town.
The building and setting were wonderful and the room and bathroom were spotless and extremely comfortable. The waitress who was running the breakfast service was abrupt and unhelpful. The ladies who served dinner were pleasant as was the gentleman on reception. The food was served up too quickly with only a couple of minutes between courses but this is probably quite usual in Spain.
the elegance of everything the buffet breakfast was very expensive so i just had pastry and coffee
very pleasant room staff very pleasant if a little cool. lovely village no
It was everything one would expect from a Parador Signs directing one to the hotel are almost non existent leading to having to criss cross the village through very narrow sreets until it is found.
Location, Parking availability. Room was of adequate size. Asked and received balcony. Breakfast was mediocre
Superb location in the centre of the medieval town. Good and convenient parking. Lovely old building, beautifully converted and furnished. Comfortable beds. Luxury bathroom fittings, with multi-outlet shower cubicle. Bathroom water was tepid at best when we arrived mid-afternoon, and barely that at 7.30 the next morning. Desk clerk accepted that this had been the case, but did not apparently deem it worth an apology! Breakfast at 17 euros a head was very expensive for what it was - have had better in Spain at a third of the price..
The building is very nice but the decoration of the rooms is too plain, you could hear the Tv of the room next door at night
The location was excellent and as we had stayed before we were pleased remained charming Nothing
Interesting location and historic building. Although area thronged by tourists Parador was an oasis of calm. Particularly pleasant receptionist on check in. We only had one overnight stop there: longer is needed to explore the area
Its location in the centre of the town. Its location for visits to the sea, other towns and culture sites. The selection of good places to eat. The receptionists. Rather disorganised breakfasts, even though they were self-service. Parking was sometimes difficult even though there was an 'overflow' garage.
The stay was adequate but only 2*, breakfast was good, toast, coffee, juice. Well served and quick.
The hotel was slightly outside of the main town but easy walking distance. A lovely village green was the view from our bedroom and we parked right outside of our room. Breakfast was a bit spartan
The staff were very helpful, the meals were good with a reasonable choice, and water and wine were both supplied at dinner at no extra cost!
Santillana del Mar is a perfect spot for an overnight stay Bathroom was cramped
Staff were welcoming and helpul. Good, quiet location with off road parking available. Close to the interesting centre of town. Breakfast was very basic
The hosts are very friendly and professional; there is free on-site parking; breakfast is generous; the rooms are clean and comfortable. Overall, we had an excellent experience. The bathroom was a little small.
Excellent location, friendly welcome. Excellent value, traditional design, hotel for stopover or longer visit to area with days out.
Very friendly, helpful staff. Very satisfied
The hotel is conveniently located just off one of the main entrance roads to Comillas and it is just a few hundred meters away from the town’s centre. Staff was very kind and helpful. I had a large and very clean room. The free wi-fi connection was excellent. There is also free parking at the hotel which is great if you get to it by car. Breakfast was good. I definitely would stay there again. There was a swimming pool by my room window, at the ground floor, and people bathing there were making a bit of noise. Had to cope with it. But it was hardly a reason why I would not stay there again.
The village was very nice. There were some very nicerestaurants about 5 minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel should not have a 4 star rating. If you want a budget stay in the area it would be OK. The hotel had a restaurant, I am glad we did not use it for dinner. Breakfast was included in the hotel price but was very poor. The coffee was undrinkable and the selection of food available very poor.
The only thing that I like about this hotel is it's central position in the town. I found that the staff were not very friendly, the room was dark and oppressive and the restaurant food left a lot to be desired.
Stayed in this hotel last year with family for 2 nights and returned agin this year for a further 2 nights.
Decent WIFI, big lounge area, free parking, central in Comillas, room nothing special but not bad either TV signal was a bit weak
Not very much. Totally un- appetising micro waved dinner courses which I found un- eatable.
Lovely comfortable room with great view. Good breakfast. Great location 2 minutes from town square. Great base for exploring on foot or by car. In the middle of dairy farming country. The web site shows a swimming pool but when we asked we were directed to the local camp site, but their pool was closed and behind locked gates. On the Friday night there was a disco in the basement which went on to 4am.. Dreadful noise. Had we known about the disco we would not have chosen to stay here. A disco is totally out of character with the location.
Our room had excellent views of the old town center, pastures and hillsides. The morning staff was unfriendly to non-Spanish speakers.
poor room insulation(walls very thin)noise from room above horrendous
the location and the room style the noise from other rooms and the noise coming from the wood stairs
we had one of the rooms on the top floor. It was excellent. Large room and bathroom with exposed stone walls on one side. Lovely view of the valley below. Staff were friendly and helpful. Would go there again The wifi signal was weak in our room but ok when we went to the ground floor
The rapport of price for quality and comfort is hard to beat.
Air conditioning to our room waas cut off at 4.am resujlting in a completely ruined night's sleep - stacks of traffic noise
New hotel, tastefully designed, modern facility, friendly staff, central location to towncenter Santillana-short walk - only 1,5 km to Altamira - can highly recommend this hotel no
There was plenty of car parking space. It was very near Santillana and therefore not too far from Santander for the ferry home. The hotel itself was well furnished. It was very good value for money. All instructions for guests were in Spanish (naturally!) but incomprehensible for us. None of the staff spoke English. The dinner menu was rather limited. A French translation would have been useful for us.
This was our 2nd visit after staying here in Sept 2008. We were very disappointed to be refused dinner in hotel dining room, although they had spare tables. We were turned away and told to walk into Santillana del Mar. I thought hotels had a responsibility to feed residents. We were offended and will never return here.
Good location. Very friendly and efficient staff. Nice room. Good value
The hotel was beautiful, well located about 5 mins walk from the medieval town of Santillana del Mar, with parking which was a huge advantage given the restrictions within the town. There was a fantastic little restaurant across the road, where we had a fantastic meal. The pool area was very pretty and we would have used it for a couple of hours each day to relax at if the weather had allowed. The hotel could do nothing about thisl. We had dinner in the hotel the first night we stayed there. The food left a lot to be desired. It was awful. We did highlight this with the staff before we left.
Pleasant, friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable room, pleasant area with access to historic sites and buildings, proximity to interesting places by the sea
Very good breakfast. Staff very friendly despite language barrier. We could not speak much Spanish but the hotel staff could not speak any other language: French Italian or English. I think this could be improved! The hotel was on a noisy road and the swimming pool was too small.
Location. Character of hotel. We had two rooms but they were a bit far from each other (ground and third floors) - this could have been better planned.
This is a really lovely small hotel. The room was modern, clean, spacious and nicely furnished (although I don't think we had a standard room). Food, both breakfast and dinner were very good. Staff were friendly and eager to help E.G. serving us drinks on the terrace. Not really a bad point - but bear in mind that it's a bit out of the way so you may not want to drive out to eat in the evening. (Dinner available in the hotel with lovely fresh-cooked produce.)
Beautiful facility, helpful staff, great breakfast. Staying here was a very pleasant experience. Jardin de Carrejo is a wonderful getaway for anyone.
Lovely building. Very nice romm. Good staff.
Jose and his two sisters Maria & Chelo who own the hotel treated us like we were family! They showed us around the hotel that was once a stable and the new addition. You think that you are in a castle because the hotel is made of huge stones and all of the antiques that are through the hotel, they even have a lift to get upstairs. NOTHING!
Very friendly stuff. Clean and spacious room.
Rather remoot location. No dining room/restaurant. Came back from site seeing one afternoon and the hotel was locked up. There was only one person working in the entire hotel.
Jose and his sisters were wonderful--so friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this hotel!
Fantastic location in centre of the old village Not easy to find in the car
Rafael was extremely helpful and pleasant both on reception and at breakfast the following morning. Although they don't have a full restaurant, he was helpful with suggestions for dinner and indeed, we had a lovely meal at one of his recommendations Because it is an old building, sound can travel and since there were children above us it could have been a problem. It wasn't because they slept all night but a baby in the hotel could cause difficulty sleeping
I felt that we received a very personal service. All staff that we came into contact with made us feel very welcome, as though they really cared about their guests. The hotel was full of character and our room was delightfully different from an average hotel room. Breakfast was good. Excellent value for money. There aren't any.
Comfortable rooms and sitting area, hospitable and friendly reception , excellent location near beaches , caves and museum sites. Good value and lovely breakfast . We enjoyed our stay and would return again.
Lovely small hotel, full of antique character and in excellent location in historic Santillana. Room also very good and hotel parking a big bonus.
An interesting historic small hotel in a beautiful medieval village. Excellent breakfast and friendly helpful staff. Old house so ear plugs for sleeping a good idea as wooden floors and little sound insolation.
There was actually another hotel I wanted to stay in and decided against it because it was more expensive. I'm so glad I did. This place was fantastic, stunning! The hotel staff were excellent, helpful and friendly. The place has so much beauty and character. I loved the view from my window.
break fast, location, service
Very charming little hotel in the beautiful pueblo Santilliana del mar. rooms are very authentic and i recommend the breakfast from the terrace with very nice views.
We had avery enjoyable stay. The hotel staff were very friendly, breakfast was good the whole ambience was good and was well cared for . We had a nice room with abalcony and cleanliness was excellent. Also free parking! Noisy at times due to creaking floorboards but it is a very old building and you can´t do much about it
It´s a place too cosy!
the staff was very polite and accomodating.the hotel was very clean,we travel with 2 small dogs, the room was very large, outside space very comfortable and in a good position for walking the dogs. Will certainly use this hotel again.Very easy to find and only 30 mins from the ferry. The railway track was very close, with trains running from about 7 am.but not noisy enough to stop us using this hotel again.
We were made most welcome especially by English speaking Juan who looked after us very well. The meals were excellent local cuisine with a wide choice and very reasonably priced along with the wine! The bedroom was simple with en suite and again good value. No. We enjoyed our stay.
Charming and helpful young host. Efficiency of staff. Excellent value. Unprepossessing situation.
Within easy walking distance of the town (5 mins.) Many places of interest to see. Fantastic views from hotel. Excellent breakfast. Hotel perfect but access narrow and steep. Also bar prices in the town are very steep compared with other towns on the Costa Verde.
Our room had a wonderful twin-view tiled balcony overlooking the town, palace, and several churches (very romantic) yet it was only a 5 minute walk to the centre of town ! Room was very clean and warm. Beautiful tiled bathroom. Breakfast was more than 'continental'. Free parking. A little tricky to find on narrow lane but worth it in the end.
good friendly and helpful staff.
The Hotel was convienient, the breakfast was good, as much as you wanted. Price was good for what was on offer. Staff and owners were very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately our room appeared to smell a little damp at times, I think this was due to lack of extractor in the bathroom but unless you intend to spend a lot of time in the room this is not a huge issue.
We had a very nice friendly welcome from the family. The room was airy and bright, with re-furbished bathroom. No aircon but not a major problem. Breakfast was ample with good supply of hot coffee and toast.Very peaceful and relaxing. Difficult location to find with car, and possibly a challenge to anyone with walking difficulties.
