10.0 Excellent
Pros: I VERY rarely leave reviews but the level of service went above and beyond my expectations, beautiful place to stay, amazing facilities gorgeous scenery but what stood out the most was how good the level of service was. Not only are katie and pete the kindest people, they go the extra mile to make your stay as comfortable as possible they are wonderful people! Breakfast is served at 830am but as we had a wedding to attend and had to go at 8am they made exceptions to make sure we had breakfast before the usual breakfast times and i am gobsmacked at how unbelievably kind that was. I would 100% recommend to anybody wanting to stay in the lakes and i would be more than happy to stay again! Thank you Katie and pete for making this experience so stress free and unforgettable.
Cons: Only thing i could suggest improvement on (and it isn't even a big change) is if the water pressure of the shower was stronger, but the positives way the negitive out.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The owners were extremely welcoming, warm and friendly. The location of the B&B was also excellent and the view from the windows is breathtaking. We also appreciated the breakfast (e.g. the tomatoes were so good)
Cons: Everything was excellent. We only have two small tips: (1) the double bed (bedroom 3) could be a little bigger/spacious, (2) in the bathroom, you could provide a small bottle of shampoo and body soap
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Gorgeous homemade breakfast with a large variety (full English, smoked salmon, croissants, fruit, lots of vegetarian options). We had a double lakeside room, the view was very picturesque and tranquil. Excellent facilities (shower, coffee machine, large smart tv, very comfortbale bed). Very near (approx 10 min drive) to the famous town of Keswick and about 5 min walk to bassenwaite lake. The hosts were very friendly, asked where we were heading and gave us helpful information about nearby walks, parking, places to visit, local food and even booked us a table at the local pub.
Cons: When we stayed it was very hot weather so would have been good to have a fan for the night time.

Pros: Breakfast was very nice! Good quality produce. We requested a later checkin which the owner had no issue with, felt very welcome and the room had some lovely little touches.
Cons: Only little improvements but the TV was quite small, was hard to see from the bed. Couldn’t see any communal areas for guest to use (would of been nice as we stayed with another couple)

Pros: All facilities, the only item missing was a bar fridge. Everything else was perfect including parking etc.

Pros: Beautiful building and location. We were overwhelmed by the hospitality we received - nothing was too much trouble. Each morning the breakfast was delicious with a variety of options available to suit all needs. Also there was ample parking available.
Cons: Only very minor side note, as it had been quite hot it was a shame we weren't able to open a couple of the windows but we still had a great time and could not recommend Graysonside more highly.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts thought of everything we could want or need. They were exceptionally helpful. We are open water swimmers and they even rinsed our swimming things and hung them on the line. There was also a room where you could leave wet things. A very nice touch was homemade cake when you came back after a day's swimming - perfect. The bed was very comfortable and nicer than ours back home!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location, great food, amazing hosts (Lyn and Ted)and lovely property. Felt at home here as the hosts provided us with cake, tea and coffee and were very accommodating. Looking forward to staying again in the future.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: An idyllic rural location away from the main Lake District tourist areas further south, but with the same or even better scenic environment for which the Lakes are justly renowned. A 15 minute evening stroll to the local pub, the Kirkstile Inn, along the winding country lanes felt like like a time warp into a pre-industrialised era with the only sounds being the twittering of birds and the bleating of lambs without interruption by a single vehicle. The hosts are charming, the breakfasts bountiful, the rooms comfortable and the location beautiful. What more can I say.
Cons: There was absolutely nothing to dislike (and I'm not easy to please!).
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Delightful property. Spotless and great attention to detail. Wonderful hosts.
Cons: Bed (or memory foam mattress topper?) a little soft for our personal preference.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Hosts very helpful & friendly, great location [short walk from the only pub for miles], fabulous breakfast, comfy room.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Spectacular setting with wonderful views towards peaks surrounding Crummock Water. The valley holds special memories for us and we were delighted to have found such a great base for revisiting the area. Lyn and Ted made us feel very welcome and were really good company. Our room, Grasmoor, was large and comfortable with valley view. Extra touches offering afternoon tea, cake and fresh milk were much appreciated. Breakfast a treat with home-baked bread and healthy choices to complement a full Cumbrian. One of our favourite pubs, the Kirkstile Inn, was just a 10 min walk. Wishing you the best for your plans and the future. We hope to return soon!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great views from the room's windows and the bar.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Food was very good. Location was ideal. Staff were friendly.
Cons: Very little storage in the room - three small draws for clothes and no wardrobe. No storage in the bathroom. We lived out of our suitcases. Swimming pool felt more like a leisure centre, not a spa. We used it once. Advertising boarding all around pool area, dirty floors and poorly maintained walls and outside area where the hot tub is. Very disappointed with this. We ate in the hotel once, excluding breakfast, because the dining area just wasn’t welcoming - always hair or dirty cutlery or old food on or around the tables. Walls and blinds need cleaning.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Clean and pleasant accommodation, very good food, friendly and helpful staff, great location. The children in particular enjoy the swimming pool.

5.0 Okay
Pros: The location was perfect. And the breakfast was delicious.
Cons: A double room with a view of the car park for £150, the room was very musky and had mould around every window and the wallpaper was peeling from the corners and edges, the bathroom was so mouldy especially around the vent and light switch casing, the slanting roof in above the bath/ shower was mouldy. It was incredibly difficult to sleep because of the musky mould, it made it hard to breathe, I have asthma and struggled so much. The chairs were ripped at the arms and terribly uncomfortable. The fly situation was out of control. I understand it’s the countryside but the amount of flies was disgusting and no preventative measure in place a blue ring light to attract and kill, anything! Shortly before checking out I knelt down to tie my boots and there was a small maggot crawling in the carpet! I told the managers/owners and was told they’d never had an issue with that room before. I find that hard to believe.
7.5 Good
Pros: location, food,
Cons: nothing
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Familiar as we’ve stayed there before. Relaxed atmosphere with excellent customer service.
Cons: Nothing to mention. A minor point is that some rooms would benefit from a little redecoration but not at the expense of the character and atmosphere of the property.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Location & quality of staff
Cons: The hotel is well passed its " need to be refurbished date " For well over £100 per day for a week ling stay I did not expect peeling wallpaper. The majority of sockets are for round pin plugs. Modern plugs are not located where they are actually needed. Guests are treated as being far less important than walk in visitors. The dining room is closed to guests wanting an eveniung mal on a Sunday. Being our last day we would have expected to go for a really good meal in the hotel. That was ot what management wanted, so we spend our money on Saturday night at the hotel more appreciative of our £ 80.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: it was lovely- bar is maginicent
Cons: nothing we loved it
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Absolutely excellent accommodation, food and staff.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Staff very helpful. All our questions were answered and added to our enjoyment .
Cons: The kitchen fan below our bedroom Matterdale was very noisy but we did have the windows open to cool the room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Every thing was great cannot wait to go back
Cons: I liked everything
7.5 Good
Cons: The place is infested with so many flys, especially in the breakfast and restaurant areas. It made having meals in the hotel very suspicious of the quality of the food and cleanliness. We will not be going back to the hotel until the management realises why this infestation is so bad.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Pheasant . In particular the staff were extremely helpful and our breakfast and evening meal were delicious.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Spotlessly clean, such comfy beds, lovely friendly staff, delicious breakfast.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: It is a lovely building with great staff and the rooms were exceptionally well equipped, even with a modern low noise fan which was very welcome in the unseasonably hot weather. The location is fantastic for exploring the town and the rest of the lake district.
Cons: I can't possibly think of anything
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The food was great and the owners perfect hosts
Cons: All good
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely breakfast with artisan bread for the toast, expertly cooked, home preserves, fresh juice etc. It's a lovely old building very close to the town centre yet there was no noise issue. Very friendly helpful staff.
Cons: My single room was at the top of the building and only had a velux window, so I couldn't see out. However this was just for one night and it didn't detract from the overall experience. I could have sat in the lounge area if I wanted to, and I only needed my room for sleep and ablutions.
10.0 Excellent

Cons: Nothing

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location in the country
Cons: The reception staff need to be completely re trained very ignorant if they worked for me they would have been fired, the personality of a rottweiller
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were lucky to have a room that was recently renovated which was to a high standard and extremely comfortable. Our friends room had not been refurbished, but was equally as comfortable. The food is of good portions and the staff are attentive. We also had a chat with a lovely lady at the stables adjacent who introduced us to the horses and gave us a bit of history of the building. This is a lovely individual hotel which I am glad we stumbled across on the internet. Highly recommended.
Cons: One very small criticism is the light sensor in the bathroom. I found it a little annoying when relaxing in the wonderful bath.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The hotel & outdoor areas were lovely. We hit on lucky with very sunny day so spent hours in the garden. Food was lovely, small menu but excellent.
Cons: It was a hot day and the rooms were absolutely red hot with no air. Even with the window as wide as possible and curtains drawn, the heat was very intense which made sleeping uncomfortable and no fans were available.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was just what I needed.
Cons: There was not anything.
6.3 Good
Pros: Location was good, nice views from the balcony. Bathroom was nice.
Cons: The hotel could have informed us that there was a weeding taking place at the venue, parking was limited and the two disabled spaces are not what you expect for disabled spaces. The room next door had the TV so loud we ended up having to get a member of staff to have the issue resolved. For the price I would have expected breakfast to be included.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing and super polite stuff. Delicious food one of the best stakes I'm ever have !!! COMPLIMENT TO CHEF ! Very clean and lovely room !!
Cons: We stay only one day!!
7.5 Good
Pros: Lovely big room and massive bathroom. Comfortable beds. Lovely view
Cons: There was a green emergency exit light in the ceiling above the door which lit up the entire room at night when the lights were switched off. I was expecting a lovely dark room with no light pollution, not a room which is brighter than a flat in the centre of London.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff were so helpful since we arrived late due to car breakdown and even let us have late check out to make the most of the room. The view from the balcony was beautiful and the room was lovely!
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Eve ING meal in bar very good.
Cons: Bedroom furniture tired and dated.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very easy check-in. Friendly staff, good location, great food. Plenty of parking.
Cons: Nothing worth mentioning.
7.5 Good
Pros: Yes
Cons: The vent that I could hear from outside the window. I rang reception & the lady I spoke to was very helpful. She said I could have another room.but I would hate the thought of returning and having the original room. This did put me off. I could also hear people outside laughing out loud. Apart from that the new room which was the superior room was excellent. I appreciate the help that you gave while I was staying. The staff I found really helpful and friendly. The lady manager of the restaurant was excellent. She was really helpful and excellent at her job.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was excellent and the room very good, lovely view out to the river. The staff were excellent too.
Cons: nothing to dislike
6.8 Good
Pros: Central Location with easy access to the town centre.
Cons: Parking was a bit of an issue. Also I would have thought that water would have been provided in the rooms so my advice is take your own!! Disappointing really considering the money paid to stay
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Plenty of choice for breakfast, evening meal delicious, exceptionally clean, friendly & helpful staff, sunday newspaper to my door
Cons: Lighting in room was dim, noise from outside extractor fan was too much - prevented afternoon nap on saturday and woke us up too early for a sunday. Drinks in bar expensive
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We loved our room which was very clean and comfortable.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location by the River D erwent
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful riverside hotel just neighboring William Wordsworth’s house and garden, it is really a surprise for us. The bar’s food is fabulous, the young waiter is very hospitable, he has been in Hong Kong.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location is excellent next to the river and within walking distance of all amenities. Reception staff friendly and very helpful. Good selection of food @ breakfast.
Cons: I am nit picking here. Some, not all, of the breakfast staff could have been a bit more tidy e.g hair. The coffee didn't taste freshly brewed, cotton wool in bathroom would have been useful for my wife to remove eye makeup.
5.8 Okay
Pros: view of river from garden. The breakfast was varied and of an excellent standard. Staff serving breakfast were fantastic !
Cons: paid to upgrade to an executive suite as travelling with a baby and wanted more space. The room was small not worth paying more for, very disappointing. Very noisy due to heavy traffic. Reception staff were not particularly helpful when I queried the room. Poor value for money. Also asked about using a microwave to sterilise bottles and told could not use hotel industrial ones and the staff room one was filthy! so advised not to use that. No solution was forthcoming.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Central location
Cons: Clean good facilities
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The staff are fantastic. When we went for food at the restaurant (which was great), the table staff knew my name and room number and was all to happy to add it to the account. From start to finish the whole experience with the facility and staff was fantastic. The only let down was out of the staff’s control as drunken people where wandering the streets and been exceptionally noisy during the early hours of the morning. Yet this didn’t disturb my sleep to much and felt totally relaxed in the room. Will be going back again for sure.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The room was very large and the beds extremely comfy.
Cons: The remote control was missing for the tv.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice decor & atmosphere, friendly staff, great breakfast.
Cons: Uncomfortable bed.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and efficient staff. Lovely old building with lots of character. We had an enormous bedroom. Breakfast was very good with a wide choice of hot food. The evening meal in their steak house was very good.
Cons: The mattresses in room 208 were not very comfortable... A bit lumpy and we really struggled to lock and unlock the room door!!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very accommodating and friendly. We had to ask for a change of room which the staff quickly and efficiently arranged, could not praise the staff enough, very professional. Lovely hotel in central location. Breakfast cooked to order therefore was fresh and hot, all local produce. Hotel provide a permit for free parking, car park is just across the road from hotel. It also allows you to park for free in certain car parks in other local towns.
Cons: Unfortunately our room was to the front of the hotel. There was a lot of noise from people leaving local pubs which went on until 2am. Delivery van then arrived at 7.15am ! . We asked for a change of room for our 2nd night, this was quickly arranged by staff. I would recommend this hotel but I would suggest if you are a light sleeper to request a room in the middle or rear of the hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: The location the hotel was spotless the staff were amazing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Free upgrade to a ground floor executive room. Very professional and friendly staff. Close to loads of pubs, restaurants and take away shops. Parking was professionally handled and they even gave us a fan as it was quite warm and humid in the room. Breakfast was exceptional, not just the usual 'Full English'. Highly recommend this hotel.
Cons: Nothing, it was exceptional!

Cons: Nothing not to like!

Cons: We have stopped here before with no problems but this time the stay was spoiled by a group of young men who came back to the hostel drunk. They played music till 2.30am and where slamming doors till 3am. There are no staff on the premises to prevent this. needless to say we did not have a very good sleep

Pros: 6 Castlegate is an impressive building with a lovely entrance hall and staircase. Our room was very nice - large and light. An extra bonus was free entry to the Leisure centre where we enjoyed a swim. Samantha was friendly and helpful and had provided dairy free for breakfast.
Cons: Because of the location you do have parking at the Leisure centre a little way up the hill - not really a problem though it might be for those with mobility issues.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful welcome, we arrived later than the 7pm normal, they asked us to call 1/2 hour before arriving and gave us a good greeting. Room was ideal and the windows opened (much needed with the warm weather). Bed comfy and plenty of wardrobe space, en-suite was perfect sized. Tv and chairs with a choice of tea/coffees to choose from in your room and the added extra of bottle of water (nice touch). Breakfast was lovely, with lots of choice, setting us up for the day, we needed just a snack at lunchtime. Your own key to get in and out at any time allows to go wherever with no time restrictions. This was a perfect getaway break for the two of us and we loved it, sometimes you are just one of many in a hotel but here you were looked after if you wished and left to please yourself if that is what you wanted. Matthew and Samantha are a lovely couple who are very good at making you feel at home. They deserve all the praise this guest house receives.
Cons: It was ideal no problems

Pros: I spend a whole week here and it was amazing! The owners are the kindest people I've ever met. My room was clean and well presented, all the utilities worked perfectly and the shower was big and very clean too. Now comes the best part: The Breakfast, a delicious, tasty and rich breakfast that overcome all other breakfast I've ever consumed in my many travels. Just the breakfast itself repays all the money spent.
Cons: Absolutly nothing
9.5 Excellent

Pros: The grounds are amazing, the view is incredible from the bar and the staff very polite and helpful.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was excellent. Evening meals were very good, bearing in mind the cost. My wife has a gluten-free diet and the staff went out of their way to make sure she had a good meal too. She especially liked the really nice touch of gluten-free biscuits being put beside the coffee making facilities in our room. What more could you want.
Cons: We didn't pay a lot for the room so obviously didn't expect luxury accommodation. That said, the washbasin was cracked and I think that should be replaced for hygiene reasons.

Cons: Tv only worked intermittently. Toilet difficult flush. Carpet stained.
4.3 Okay
Pros: The fact that Dovenby is close to where we wanted to be. The water was hot and plentiful. Ample car parking
Cons: The carpets on the staircase/landing and bedroom were filthy. The sheets were probably clean but certainly not ironed. The tv did not work. My shower towel had makeup on it. I don’t use makeup. I was given a glass of wine with lipstick round the rim We were asked to leave the bar at 9.50 as the barman wanted to lock up. There was no one in the pub over night There was no breakfast available
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Nice location, easy to fine, not to busy, very nice food

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Quiet rural location. Use of Pub during opening hours
Cons: Some passing traffic noise, but good insulated windows cut most of this out.
5.8 Okay
Pros: Area is very pretty
Cons: Hotel is situated on very busy road, noisy! Never slept from 4.30 am. Very hot couldn’t close windows, as needed air, and heating was on on landing.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Lovely looking pub inside and out with a nice garden to relax in.
Cons: Ate at the pub and it was awful - soggy fish and chips not the best. Room not good for the price, bathroom looked as if it needed a refurbishment and no bath mat provided for shower. TV didn't work. I paid only £4 more the next night at different accommodation and it was impeccable and included breakfast which The Dovenby didn't. Not worth more than £30 a night.
4.5 Okay
Pros: The bathroom was new and the room clean.
Cons: There was an awful smell upstairs where the rooms are. Might have been from the kitchen but was there all the time even after it had closed. Seemed to be a lock in or a party after closing of the pub, this went on till 3am. Because its on the road the noise of the cars keeps you awake.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff were friendly and very helpful. The food was excellent and the location was ideal.
Cons: The shower temperature control was a bit unresponsive but the staff tried to fix it straight away.
