Near the centre of Coimbra, on a hillside just 100 mts. from the University hospital. The Lisbon-Porto motorway provides access to Porto international airport (1 hr.) and Lisbon (2 hrs.). 500 mts. from the citys historical and commercial centre. 3 kms. from the "Portugal dos Pequenitos" attraction park. 15 kms. from the Roman ruins of Conimbriga.
a great location for a visit to Coimbra - breakfast was excellent and room very spacious and in extremely good decorative order,.
The hotel was in a poor position for the town, and it was our experience that the staff did not know the best places to visit in the town, but tried
The location was a little bit far from the central, no free WiFi
The Tryp Coimbra is definitely representative of the Sol Melia chain. A well balanced combination of luxury and fair price. The room was comfortable, very clean and well setup. Due to a confusion, we were initially assigned a room (a group of three adults) that had only two beds. The situation was immediately rectified without us having to return to the front desk. The staff was professional, friendly and capable, reflexive of the level one would expect from a hotel of this level. Only drawback I should warn is that a car or taxi is a must due to the location (I believe public transportation is also an alternative but not practical) if considering sightseeing places such as the university, city center, botanical garden, etc.
Although it is not the hotel's fault, the location is not strategic for visiting Coimbra since one must have a car to get around from such location (in google maps it looks closer but because of the topography of Coimbra it is not in a location one would consider just walking from). However, the location is quite peaceful, safe and more PLEASENT than other hotels closer to the city center.
Great breakfast, clean rooms.
It was one of the nicer hotels in Coimbra
High internet charges. Staff reluctant or unable to provide specific information about facilities in the area
Very large hotel. Location is ok, however lots of business people stay there so would not recommend it for tourists who want to have a relaxed breakfast in the morning.
Very nice and comfortalbe room.
The dining room. The menu was extensive and varied, the food itself was excellent and the staff very efficient.
Location was quite nice
Could replace old blanket with a newer one or even better, with an edredon. It would not hurt to have paper tissue available like most hotels. With the flu seasom peaking with would be nice to have it.
