Pros: We had a wonderful stay at Casa Carvalhal. The beautiful house is located in a pretty small village with several resaurants and is a good base for exploring the area. We were warmly welcomed by Herman and Luc. We stayed in a very comfortable, luxury , clean double room with terrace .There was also a large shared living room at our disposal, where Herman and Luc joinded us for a nice conversation. They were very attentive, with an eye for detail. Breakfast was super with fresh fruits, local cheese and meat, homemade granola and jams. We were here for 3 nights but would have liked to stay longer to view more of the surroundings and enjoy the beautiful garden. Conclusion: if you want, for example, to visit Coimbra or Serra de Lousa with beautiful schist villages, or you like to cycle in a beautiful landscape on the Ecopista do Dao, then Casa Carvahal is highly recommended. Herman and Luc, thank you very much for your hospitality and good care!
Pros: The only think what I can say is perfect. Owners are super simpatics, they have just started this bussiness, but they do it very well. Breakfast is a dream with fresh fruit, fresh orange juise, fresh bread. ect. Coffee is in every variation, actually I had double expresso every morning :D Restaurants and river beaches are in walking distance. We go back next year. If someone likes to make a rest in the middle of the nature, is a perfect choice.
Pros: We were the first guests since change of ownership. Amazing knowledgeable hosts, very clean, large bedroom + private bathroom, common area has relaxing atmosphere with nice fireplace, refined furniture and decor, generous healthy breakfast and top notch coffee.
Pros: Excellent breakfast exceeded expectations with all the right local ingridients for a healthy and tasty breakfast, super clean room and bathrooms, wide and very confortable beds, modern spartan and best of breed construction materials for a cozy and at the same time elegant experience, with state of art tech all around and also super wifi for the kids to check on YouTube or netflix and more than enough for savvy work oriented to be up to date with emails, and all of it extremely well managed by two fantastic hosts.
Cons: Inside the rooms the wooden walls are brand new and still bear an intense smell, which for those who have some allergies or asthma or more sensitive olfact can feel some discomfort
Pros: Impeccable modern facilities, Herman and Luke were brilliant hosts. Can’t recommend it enough!
Pros: It´s a good localion, the owners are very nice, quite helpfull and they will be there for whatver you need. They also keep the house in perfect state and you will find everything perfetc and clean. Breakfast above the average and all natural I strongly advice your staying in this house and location. I will repeat the experience
Cons: I would put more pillows in the room, thicker ones. For me the ones were too thin
Pros: It was an amazing experience, everything was really Nice specially the owners. Very kind. House trully cozy. We Will Come back for sure. 5 stars

Pros: A traditional house in a small village about 6km from Góis. Well equipped kitchen and large sitting room with log fire for guests to use. Also sheltered walled patio area outside. Friendly and helpful owner.
Cons: For us, with only bicycle transport, it was further from the bars and restaurants of Góis than we expected. But the owner organized a taxi for us.
Pros: The owners, the service and good area together to from main road. Tucked away somewhere quiet.
Cons: Bathroom across public areas from bedroom.
Pros: This is a place where you feel like you have broken the visitor-host barrier. This is where you feel like apart of Portugese familiy. Like visiting your Portugese relatives for a while. Respect it guys!
Pros: Substantial and served by great host , fetched us in town when lost !
Cons: Can't reach your feet in the showers
Pros: Stayed in 21 Portuguese lodgings in a month-long bicycle tour. Sotam Country House was the single best place I stayed. Quaint, quiet, excellent service by John, fast wi-fi, great price, and an excellent kitchen. Superb customer service and just a terrific place. Extremely recommended. - Scot

Pros: Our hosts were absolutely amazing, available for any questions, kind and friendly. The house was stunning, well renovated and the location was perfect. It was so peaceful and quiet with a stream passing nearby, we could sit outside and enjoy the scenery all day. Our breakfast was fantastic, arrived in a wicker basket with fresh flowers, just amazing. We loved the coffee, fresh bread rolls, local cheeses and homemade jams, was the perfect start to our day. The house had everything we needed, beds were so comfy and lovely, clean bathrooms with showers. We would love to come back! A big thank you to our hosts for welcoming and looking after us so well!
Cons: It was sometimes hard to get a mobile phone signal and would have been handy if some translations were available! But these are only very small things, and did not detract from our stay - everything else was perfect!
Pros: Dear fellow traveller, there are some facts you ought to know before booking this apartment. One is, that this is a lovely apartment. The owners decorated it with utmost attention to details and it is pretty new. The others are that this is not a two bedroom apartment. It are actually two apartments that are rented separately. One has one bedroom and a bathroom on the top floor and an open kitchen and living room downstairs. The other one we do not know. that the house is far away from everything. Leaving the mountains is - irrespective of the direction - at least a 30 KM drive. If you are after tranquility, this is your place to be. the house is also far away from the internet. The next access point is the restaurant in the next village 3 KM up the mountain. There is hardly any mobile phone reception near the house. the bed is short. I am 194 cm tall and both, head and heel have close contact with either end of the bed. the ground floor ceiling is pretty low, but ok the bedroom has electric heating, the living room only a wood burner. So we did have a good time here and enjoyed the hospitality, the breakfast was made with love, the house was very very clean, there was always enough wood for the oven.
Cons: Price is a bit high
Pros: This is a beautifully refurbished building in a stunning location. The rooms are tastefully decorated, and very comfortable. The breakfast was lovely, lots of choice and delivered by the kind host. For anyone looking for a peaceful, very comfortable stay, this is the oasis of calm that you're looking for.
Cons: Only slight point for improvement, is there should be a bin for rubbish in the kitchenette area.
Pros: We loved the atmosphere, the design, the delicious breakfast and the welcoming staff. We highly recommend, and wish to come back soon!
Cons: It's hard to say, since it was just fantastic. However, it is a bit hard to reach and there is no restaurants in the village --- but it is still really worth the visit, just plan to be there before sunset.
Pros: Great renovation of old schist house with good interior decor ideas. Good that you could do your own self catering. Great terrace with spectacular views. Good breakfast and good housekeeper. Very quiet.
Cons: Not easy to get to - especially in the dark with winding, unlit roads with sheer drops. No dedicated parking. Extremely quiet when we were there - we were the only guests. No information on local attractions, restaurants etc.
With a stay at Quinta da Palmeira - Country House Retreat & Spa in Arganil, you'll be 4.4 mi (7.1 km) from Fraga da Pena Waterfall and 16 mi (25.8 km) from School of Technology and Management of Oliveira do Hospital. Featured amenities include complimentary wired Internet access, a business center, and complimentary newspapers in the lobby. Guests may use a roundtrip airport shuttle for a surcharge, and free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Sooo stylish.
Cons: Sacrificed a little bit of practicality for style. No desk in room. Hard to work.
Pros: The hosts were wonderful - very welcoming. The place is beautiful, as are the rooms (and the linens are gorgeous and impeccably ironed). And I can't say enough positives about the food, both breakfast and the optional dinner. We also enjoyed some fun conversations, both among ourselves and with other guests, in the ground floor lounge. A five-star experience.
Pros: Very nice pool and view!
Cons: Complete lack of intimacy. The rooms overlook the main passage from the car park. So when you lie on the bed, everyone looks and you stare at you. The owner is a bit tense. In the morning, he watched every minute to leave the room in accordance with the time... but apparently there are no crowds and you could wait in the garden by the pool. No atmosphere of hospitality despite the huge potential of the place. Besides, very clean .
Pros: Beautiful location off the beaten track. Luxurious room with lovely views of stunning countryside. Small pool available at all reasonable times. Delicious dinner and breakfast.
Cons: Owner appeared unprepared for total electricity outtage which he said were not infrequent so we were in almost total darkness for one evening with our booked dinner unavailable. There were no alternatives as neighbouring villages were also without power. It was only after an initial refusal followed by strong guest pressure that a perfectly acceptable cold supper was produced by candlelight.
Pros: The setting is very nice and the accommodations are spread out over several buildings. We were there in late September so we ate both dinner and breakfast on the terrace. They have a beautiful pool area with an honor bar and on the lower level of the main house another honor bar witch is well stocked with all sorts of wine, and anything else you may get wish to drink. The main house also has nice public rooms including a living room, the honor bar and pretty dining room. Both the dinner and breakfast were both good but nothing outstanding. If you are looking for a place to break up a drive between Evora and the Douro Valley this is a good choice.
Cons: Nothing was wrong but if you like having a box of tissues in your room then bring it with you as none of the properties we have stayed in provided them.
Pros: Beautiful and immaculate hotel, very accommodating hosts, lovely food. Room very spacious and well-equipped with gorgeous views. Really comfy chairs on terrace outside the room. We were very late arriving and although we had booked dinner, we were allowed to carry that over to the following night (we did call to let them know our flight was delayed). Delicious fresh orange juice at breakfast. Surprise menu different every day and very tasty. We also asked for wine recommendations and all were very good.
Cons: We had water refreshed daily in our room but otherwise had to pay for any more drinks. Fair enough but would have been nice to have access to free water at least throughout.

Pros: Easy to find , in a quite location , bikes park outside under bedroom window . Interesting looking at all the photographs of rally cars from the last thirty years as the hotel is used as a stop in the Rally of Portugal . Breakfast was good , set us up for the day .
Cons: Only a small problem but as it was a twin room we had to slide a bed to one side to access the balcony , would not be a problem if it was a double .
Pros: Great location. Very helpful reception. Great local restaurant. Grilla or similar
Pros: Great breakfast buffet. And girl on reception was trying to be as helpful as possible
Cons: Room heating did not work so the room temp was 17 degrees. Cold enough for the windows to be running with condensation. Beds were uncomfortable. Understaffed. Receptionist was on front desk and looking after the bar on the 2nd floor. Laminate flooring meant you could hear people walking up and down the corridor outside the room.
Pros: Friendly helpful staff. Clean hotel. Good value for money.
Pros: Location. Cleanliness. Staff. Lovely welcome. Excellent value for money. Great bed. Air conditioned and a great breakfast
Cons: Nothing about hotel. However a Grab and Go has opened out the front and friends had a front room which was noisy when night club spilled out and they all congregated on the green in front of hotel

Pros: Cute little family house. We had the house to ourselves, as no one had booked the other rooms. It was clean and comfy. The owners were really friendly and gave us some tips to visit a couple of xist towns nearby.
Pros: We liked how welcome we were made to feel in the small villiage just outside of Gois. Everyone was very helpful and we enjoyed a good night in the local cafe where we met Keen the cafe owner and his family. Mr Eddie, Victor the local builder and Anna the amazing Swiss interpreter made it a lovely stay and if we are ever back in the area we will spend time there again.
Cons: Our first night was very cold as it was the coldest February on record for Portugal apparently, and the dogs fighting in the square first thing in the morning was a little irratating.
Pros: The hosts are so lovely that will make you feel at home!! The house is close to an amazing river beach, right in the mountains where you can get lots of sun and fresh air!

Pros: Really nice accommodation, very clean and comfortable. Josephine is very kind and made us feel like we were at home. Truly recommendable.
Pros: The house was nice
Cons: We did not like the behaviour of the host she received us at the door and did not allow us in until we paid an extra 40 eu for breakfast for a 9 years old child and then proceeded to demand an extra 30 for an 8 years old child when we were leaving completely in acceptable
