This hotel was a good value for the price. The furniture was from the mid 80’s and showed a lot of dings and scratches. We did have a good bit of noise from the other rooms and from outside due to a lot of college students living in the hotel.

Hotel looks great from the street. We were pleasantly surprised by the staff. They were courteous and kind. However, the hotel needs some attention. The hotel is a converted apartment complex. First night, air conditioner froze and refrigerator sprung a water leak. The next morning the water had traveled under the all into the hallway and soaked the carpeting. Second day, the fridge shorted out and spoiled all of our food. However, the air conditioner was on -- thank goodness. Staff replaced the fridge but when we inquired about discount on the room for our food loss and discomfort, the reply was that no one could help us with that. Overall good stay, but could use some reimbursement for troubles. Love Columbia. Beautiful state.

My daughter is going to school in Columbia and I had to drive down and help her move from one apartment to another. We selected The Whitney because it sounded interesting, we got a good deal through Travel Website, and they have a very liberal pet policy (my daughter has a large dog). We rented a two bedroom suite with all the comforts of home - full kitchen, laundy, two bathrooms, living room/dining area and a balcony. The beds were comfortable, the suite was clean, plenty of towels and blankets, both TVs worked, kitchen had all the utensils, glassware, dishes, etc.and the water was hot. My thought is that this was built as a residence hotel, probably with visiting professors in mind. The place could use some new paint and maybe a deep cleaning but we found it just fine for our needs. I would recommend this hotel.

We travel as a family, and my husband has a very restrictive diet. So we actually needed to use the features of the Whitney. Unfortunately, a lot of the features and amenities didn't work. Our iron was broken. The hairdryer in one of the bathrooms was broken. The lighting in both bathrooms was quite bad. The heating elements on the stove were crooked so it was hard to cook because the pans sat on an angle. Some of the pots had burnt on food still stuck to them...LOTS of burnt on food. There was no scrubbing sponge or dishsoap to allow us to clean the pans ourselves. There was only one fork and no spatula. Three plates. Two bowls. The coffee pot leaked all over the counter. The hot water ran out when my husband was showering (third shower of the morning)...completely cold. They have old fashioned door locks on the bedrooms, and my three-year-old son locked himself into one of the bedrooms and couldn't get out. There was no way to unlock the door from the outside, so the hotel staff went...

We booked 20 rooms for my daughter's wedding. The rooms were adequate but could use an update. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The location was perfect. I would recommend this hotel
