Pros: Such a peaceful location, but easy to access lots of walks or other parts of the Lake District. Super comfortable bed, fluffy towels, and locally produced toiletries. Able to order what you wanted from a full english breakfast, or choice of fish, as well as cereals, fruit salad etc provided. A couple of pubs also within walking distance for dinner. No issues with parking. I would definitely stay here again!

9.5 Excellent

Cons: The room was a little small for three people and we only had two towels (just an oversight I am sure)
7.5 Good
Pros: Great breakfast
Cons: There was a slightly musty smell in the room
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The B & B is part of a thriving cafe which serves great food all day. This was brilliant when coming back from a good walk. The cafe closes late afternoon which gave us the opportunity to try the local pubs which are only a stone's throw away. It is so well located for exploring the southern part of the lake District and thankfully quieter than crowded Bowness-on-Windermere. The staff at the B & B cafe were so welcoming, helpful and friendly. Our family suite was exactly what we wanted, being together but with the privacy of our own rooms. Everything we needed was provided for and it was clean and comfortable. Excellent value for money. This is definitely somewhere we shall return to, one of those go to places you are really glad you found.
Cons: Quite simply there wasn't anything we didn't like.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location, very central and the fact that it's a café has it's benefits with home made cakes available! The lady stayed on site to welcome us even though the café had closed we had informed them of a later check in but appreciated her still being there even though she'd clearly had a busy day! The room was nice and clean - just small.
Cons: Room and bathroom was small - but equipped for everything you might need.

9.5 Excellent
Pros: The Staff were all wonderful and couldn't be any more helpful. The Food was very good and they had Theakstons Old Peculiar Ale which you can't go wrong with especially for an Ale drinker. I would highly recommend The Yewdale Inn and will definitely be visiting again
Cons: I'm not a fan of the fixed Shower Head
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff are very friendly and welcoming, the location is amazing, we loved the view of the hills from our bedroom window! The breakfast was delicious, and we enjoyed the dinner we had there also.
Cons: I was disappointed that the staff who went to the 'staff room' in room 1 next to ours didn't have the common sense to be quieter at 11:45pm, this woke us up and it was difficult to get back to sleep. I don't want this to take away the efforts of the other staff members who were so friendly and welcoming and I did expect some noise at night with it being a pub hotel.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were excellent.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The people were so lovely, the room was cute and clean - a perfect stay!
9.5 Excellent

Pros: Pub is in a great location in the heart of Coniston. Excellent staff, good pub food. Our room was at the back and was nice and quiet.

Cons: The room was quite small but we had kind of expected that with booking a small double.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location near Coniston, easy walking distance to the town pier. Beautiful view of the mountains from the big windows in the breakfast room.
Cons: The layout of the place is a little quirky with a corridor from the front door, rooms and breakfast room all leading off this on the ground floor. No actual lounge area, though the breakfast room is available to be used in the evening.

Pros: The location is excellent as a base for visiting the Lakes, right opposite the bus stop and a carpark. The staff were lovely and the breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Holland House cafe next door which I believe is part of the hotel, had coffee and carrot cake to die for!! The bed was very comfortable too
Cons: One slight niggle that I had was that there was a smell of dampness when you entered the room coming from the bathroom, it became quite unnoticeable when you were in the room but that was the only thing really that I could find fault with

Overview Reviews
With a stay at YHA Coniston Coppermines - Hostel in Coniston, you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Hill Top and John Ruskin Museum. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location! Friendly, polite and chatty staff, very welcoming. Comfortable, clean and facilities for what is needed. Will be back for sure! Thank you for a great affordable weekend in my favourite place.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The wonderful and helpful staff!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location to start hikes (many trails starts from there). Love the wood and stone inside the house (old architecture and wooden furniture in dining room and kitchen make amazing atmosphere), so relaxing. Away from the village and distractions. Clean. Friendly people. And so much more!
Cons: I think the only wish I have is that the benches outside could be protected from wind/rain and/or moved into different place. Each time the car is passing in front of them, a blow of dust from the road hits the sitting people. By moving benches next to the View Point in car park, people will have unobstructed view and protection from dusty road. Just a suggestion.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Great location for starting/finishing hikes.
Cons: Poor location for going into town for dinner/beers after hiking. Plus, I just cannot deal with Youth Hostels anymore. It is near impossible to sleep with people snoring, coming in and out of the room at all hours. They should be turned into units ore like a capsule hotel in Japan where it is insulated and quiet.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Fab breakfast, amazing location, lovely staff
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Appeared small but everything we needed was there
Cons: Nothing
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Small Friendly hostel with helpful staff. Attracts people wanting to hike in the area. Small but clean well equipped self catering kitchen.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and interested in what the guests were doing. They had lots of local knowledge.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was fine, Views were great, atmosphere and friendliness were outstanding.
Cons: Lockers were all broken so nowhere to store my laptop and tech I ended up hiring a private room for £39 rather than stay in an 8 room dorm for £13. SO was unnecessarily expensive (please fix the locks on the boxes, get stronger lockable cupboards)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: It was a lovely area, very rural and out in the middle of nowhere. The staff were very friendly and helpful - they let us know about things to do in the area.
Cons: Nothing, we really enjoyed our stay.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Neat clean and tidy room, excellent food both for breakfast and an evening meal . All the staff were friendly , very pleasant and courteous .
Cons: I think a better quality mattress would be a big improvement, ( could feel the spring digging into the hip !)
5.8 Okay
Pros: The staff are very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was reasonable. The room was large
Cons: The room and bathroom where a bit dated and tatty. Found we where locked in and unable to get out of the building until 7:45. Not able to have a cooked breakfast before 8:30
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The service, fantastic menu and food, staff were very polite, the general atmosphere of the quaint hotel and large bedroom
Cons: One of the 3 beds was a bit rough
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Friendly, attentive staff and comfortable room. Also very good central location.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Really nice accomodation, friendly staff, free parking.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfy bed, good sized towels, lovely breakfast.
Cons: Air con or room fan. We could have asked I suppose, but for one night you tend to “make do”.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff were friendly and kind
Cons: Room was quite hot even with window open. A/C units would be great.
7.5 Good
Pros: Easy to find, in the centre of the village. Coniston is not over crowded with tourists, a very pleasant place. Ample flat parking available. We arrived early but our room was available. Dog allowed in the bar but not the breakfast room. Staff offered to set up a table in the bar for breakfast, all good, the dog likes to stay with us. A good cooked breakfast available, plus toast and other bits and bobs, excellent coffee. Bar food was very good. Plenty of real ales on. Lots of outside seating. Everything turned out to be just as we'd hoped. A very enjoyable 2 night stay. I wouldn't take much persuading to stay again :-)
Cons: The only way we could let the dog out first thing in the morning was by going through a fire exit. The door was sprung loaded so you had to be careful not to get locked out. When we commented on this to a member of staff, he suggested keeping the door open with a fire extinguisher. I'm sure the man from HSE would agree with me:- fire extinguishers aren't door-stops, they're for putting fires out :-(
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Food and bar area were fantastic and rooms very clean
Cons: The bed mattress was extremely hard! I had to sleep on a pillow, a topper is needed. Also a fan in the room would be good in hot weather
7.0 Good
Pros: Good location. Friendly staff. Good breakfast but limited content and time
Cons: Room clean/tidy but furniture very tired and shabby, only needs quick fix. Sink taps both loose and dripping, put towel in sink to reduce noise. Noisy pipes when next room used bathroom. Fire alarm at 2.15am, no real guidance from staff, no mention or apology following morning.

A continental breakfast is available daily at the inn. You can play darts at Church House Inn, and the area is popular for hiking.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Amazing inn dating from the 13th or 14th century. This is a real, old-style inn, not the overly-polished, posh boutique hotels of Windermere or Hawkshead. The family is wonderful, with hearty breakfasts and good ales on draught.
Cons: This is a lived-in, old, historical inn, so be ready for that. Low ceilings in the serpentine hallways, the building creaks and there is a touch of dankness: these are good things but worthy of note.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Staff were very friendly and helpful. Superb breakfast. Good local ale.
Cons: This is not a complaint but an observation, after all it's a 14th Century building. The room was a little cramped.
6.3 Good
Pros: the breakfast for excellent quality and well organised.
Cons: room had no windows and no ventilation for air. Bedrooms were very small and contested. Also lights had cobwebs on them not cleaned for weeks I guess. 1 staff attending to guest at the restaurant and same 1 staff hurridly checked us in our room grumpily as though it was a favour done to us. the fact we had already paid 100% on booking.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location was fantastic, views were amazing, only 1 hour 10 mins drive to Scafell Pike for the climb, food was superb, staff were friendly and helpful, room was lovely and very comfortable, would highly recommend for a great stay in the Lake District.
Cons: Nothing it was all fab
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely room, perfect for my family. Children loved the bunk beds. Clean and spacious. Comfy beds. Very welcoming hosts and friendly staff. Great breakfast.
Cons: Tv was slightly too high on the wall to be comfortably viewed. No toiletries in the bathroom.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just far enough outside of Coniston to be away from the crowds, but within easy reach of everything we wanted. Beautiful walks straight from the pub. Good food and a friendly welcome.
7.5 Good
Pros: Location, character of 14th Century Inn. Garden and view lovely. Access to walls and Lake Conistom.
Cons: Staff didn’t know how to cut and serve my grapefruit. Good in the evening limited, expensive and not very good.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: The property has lots of character, it’s a quaint little establishment. Once we’d navigated our way to our room, ducking under a few low beams, the room opened out with a very high ceiling making it very airy. The facilities in the room were as standard with a good shower over the bath (although a light over the Mirror could have helped) We are and drank in the bar area and the food was delicious, along with the breakfast that was served each morning. The owner -Amanda- even delivered sausage sandwiches to our room one morning too (after a 50 Mile run my husband had completed in the early hours) The walk along the old railway was lovely into Coniston too - it took us at strolling pace just under an hour.
Cons: Nothing!!!
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Spacious accommodation in a fantastic Lakes setting
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff were great, family room was lovely but no external window which was a little claustrophobic

Pros: Location
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Staff are great! Very helpful and considerate! definitely will recommend to friends
6.8 Good
Pros: Location is great. Parking good. Building is lovely but it just needs some TLC..
Cons: The hostel is in need of a refurbishment, it's very tired. Showers were poor and taps not working in the bathroom. The kitchen was not up to usual standards of YHA, utensils were left around unclean for 2 days at least and the sinks were not clean. One fridge had a faulty door. Beds were uncomfortable..
8.0 Excellent
Cons: The building is old sit there was a lot of noise from people moving around and fire doors closing etc which was annoying.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: We all was very itchy in the beds not sure if it was bed bugs or washing powder
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Perfect for wee break
8.8 Excellent
Pros: great location and facilities including the bar and restaurant
Cons: Longer opening times for meals in its restaurant.
6.3 Good
Pros: Free parking
Cons: When I first arrived, I had to call as soir was locked and no one was there (6pm) apparently they were short of staff and they left me a note with instruction but no note to be found ! The hostel was really loud maybe part due to a huge group being here to party. Kitchen is very small and was dirty as well as some of the bathroom. The dorm was smelly. It’s a 10/15 minutes walk to downtown
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Great location for a weekend of racing. Staff were very helpful and polite.
The Wilson Arms - Coniston - Building
11
8.7 Excellent (204 reviews)
Overview Reviews
Located in Coniston, The Wilson Arms is close to Coniston Water and Brantwood. Free self parking is available onsite.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Excellent place for fell walking. Excellent beer. Good food and very good staff.
5.8 Okay
Pros: clean room. complimentary toiletries and biscuits.
Cons: The flood light outside the window which was 300kw and lit up the room. the noisy telephone box full of coy carp with water pump that sounded like a huge bath being filled constantly. I completed the booking form to say that I was dinning and then to find that there was no table in the restaurant. I was offered a table in the bar and then shouted at by the owner to move table so some locals could use the table and asked to move to a smaller table that was propping the door to the pub open just as my food arrived. there was no customer service while I dined, The rate only included a continental breakfast which was poor.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The evening meal was excellent as was the beer. The member of staff who served me breakfast couldn’t do enough and was very friendly and helpful. Really enjoyed the breakfast. Would definitely recommend this establishment and will return again.
Cons: This in no way should this be classed as a complaint, but I was staying in room 5 and I found that the lighting in the bathroom was a little dim making it difficult to have a wet shave. It would prove useful to have a small strip light on the wall in order to provide a bright light that would allow one to shave.
6.3 Good
Pros: Location was excellent.
Cons: Size of the Bath room, after taking a shower there’s no room to them get dressed, could not swing a cat.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The food was fabulous and most of the staff were wonderful facilities for dogs were good ie nice walks catered well for dogs
Cons: Our room was on the small side for our dog no table to place cups on or have a game of cards etc no hair dryer no dressing table and noise from people talking outside fairly evident but this was because of window open due to hot weather
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The cooked breakfast was a decent "full English" and already included in the room rate. Location wise, the Wilson Arms is very handy if you want access to the Coniston fells, which was my primary reason for visiting the area
Cons: The main lighting in the bedroom could have been better lumens-wise and the ensuite was a snug fit. Okay from my point of view, as I am relatively skinny, but someone with a bigger frame might have struggled to squeeze in.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Excellent location for walking
Cons: Nothing
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Evening meals were excellent. Fresh bread at breakfast was first class
Cons: Chips were a bit overcooked and scrappy
