Pros: Our second visit to Hotel Montaulbain and it was as comfortable and welcoming as I remember. The rooms are large by European standards and the staff couldn’t be nicer.
Cons: A note for people who find difficulty with stairs. There are no rooms on the ground floor and no lifts, so ask for a room on the 1st floor, if possible.

Pros: Great staff, nice room , good breakfast, classy for a 3 star hotel
Cons: You have to park 3 blocks away at public parking. Hotel is on narrow street, more suitable for those without cars.

Cons: Breakfast was good (the baguette and French cheeses were very tasty), but we expected a bit more variety (ham or salami, cereals, eggs, fruit salad, ...).
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Nice room if a little at altitude, with a shared lounge and toilet/shower. The owner let me park my motorcycle in the garage which was appreciated. Breakfast was excellent. As a bonus, the owner was very knowledgeable about the history of the area and the 1st WW sites to visit. I look forward to a return visit.

Pros: Very hospitable and interesting host. Old but comfortable house like from some movies. Very atmospheric place
Cons: Toilet is outside of room, but bathroom is inside. Very strange :D
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Alain, is a great man to chat to. He has a wealth of knowledge about the area and its history. His wife (apologies I never got her name) is warm and hospitable. The house is within easy walk of the town but on a quiet residential street. The shower and toilet are shared with another room but as they are separate this was never an issue. My only regret is I didn't get to use the swimming pool as the weather was a bit cold!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly host, comfortable beds.
Cons: Nothing, we had a very nice time.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Warm welcome from Alain and his wife. Generous continental breakfast.

Pros: The room was absolutely okay and the price/value is excellent. If you want to visible Verdun city or the Verdun battle field, the location is almost perfect - its only some 10 minute away from the battle field. The owners are both very friendly and accommodating. The whole accommodation is very fimiliar and with shared area. The breakfast is absolutely fanstasic and it is really huge which home-make honey and home-made jam, never had that before in a hotel.
Cons: The breakfast coffee could be a bit stronger, but this is very subjectively.....
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic owners full of warm hospitality. They really enjoyed people in their home. Great breakfast, you won't expect such a big selection of tasty bread, jams etc. There is a fridge for the guests and even the possibility to freeze cold packs. The rooms were large and very clean. We really enjoyed our stay and the many conversions with our hosts. Thanks again!

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly welcome. Character setting with animals and fruit trees. Owner Olivier even booked us a table at a local pizza restaurant and drove us there and back so we didn't have to get back on our motorbikes and could have a beer! Excellent breakfast and a very pleasant stay all round. Well done to our hosts.
Cons: Nothing.
7.9 Good
Pros: Very friendly host. Room was large and comfortable. Excellent traditional breakfast with lovely bread. Close to Verdun battlefield and memorials. A very homely environment - felt like you were staying in someone's home rather than a hotel/apartment.
Cons: No TV in room which didn't bother us but is unusual and may be important for others. Location is not terribly easy to find - tucked away in a little hamlet.

Cons: Sloped ceiling in upstairs bedroom and bath works better for short people but really it was fine.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Comfortable and clean room decorated with taste and full of little details to make you feel at home , not too far from the center, a little more to the railway station (about 20-30 minutes on foot), big beautiful garden where an excellent breakfast (sweet or salted, as you want) is served - but most of all, the owner as Régine is the soul of this place and makes your stay a real treat!! Encore mille mercis Régine de m'avoir permis de voir ce magnifique spectacle Son et Lumière car sans votre aide, j'aurais raté quelque chose de superbe et émouvant...
Cons: Nothing...just note that the bathroom is not in the room itself but your own on the other side of the very short corridor.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Very nice and helpful hosts.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: There was nothing not to like, stayed for five nights, the garden cooking facilities were excellent so good that we did not eat out in a restaurant once during our stay. As a keen Carp fisherman the lake was superb, a small lake with some very big fish. The surrounding area is a reminder of the futility of war the village sits at the bottom of a hill where the original village once sat, destroyed by the biggest underground mine of WW1 detonated by the German Army. The whole area around Verdun has many places to visit the best being the American Memorial (Fantastic views across the Battlefields) The American Cemetery and the French Cemetery and any one of the Forts that formed the front line. Also the Breakfast is very good.
Cons: The weather could have been better but on a holiday to this area there was still plenty of things to see some of them were more moving during the rain as it gave a greater sense of what the men who fought in this area went through.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything perfect! Beautiful place to stay!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: A friendly hostess in a tiny town in the heart of the WWI battlefields. Great value for comfortable accommodations and a very nice and ample breakfast.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful countryside now but Vaquois was the site of a big battle and thousands of lives were lost during the Great War. Discovered this by accident. Today this is tiny village with great views across peaceful countryside.
Cons: The water pressure was not able to tun the shower

Cons: The price is a little high in comparison to other hotels in the area but, is the most superior property in town.

Pros: Excellent value for money, friendly efficient staff made us feel very welcome. Our room was comfortable and clean with a very good shower. The manager recommended a local restaurant not more than a five minute walk which served great food made with local produce.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The management were so friendly and welcoming it was a real delight, the manager spoke very good English which was a real bonus and they made me so welcome this was a pure pleasure, they even managed to get me a table at the French restaurant just up the road at very short notice, could not ask for more
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was ideal for a stop over on our way to Italy. The owner was extremely helpful, the room was clean, the breakfast buffet had a really good selection of food and the hotel was reasonably priced. It's well worth a look around the village as the river is quite scenic and if you're interested in history the American army formed a bridgehead there during the 1st World War.
Cons: I can't really think of anything I didn't like. The only issue was that we stayed on a Monday and only one restaurant in the village was open, but that's hardly the fault of the hotel.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: We were welcomed by the lovely couple that run this hotel. They were concerned that we would need to book a table for dinner at the restaurant 100m up the road. She insisted on phoning them and was clearly pleased that we had got the last booking. We found out why. We had a superb meal at the only place in town! Fasthôtel Le Râle Des Genêts is a modern motel type place with a personal touch! The couple that run the place couldn't do enough for us! The room was clean and bright and parking plentiful. 6.7 Good
Pros: Good breakfast, though coffee thin. Good restaurant in nearby hotel.
Cons: Very fancy shower, but with loose fittings. Wash-basin: blocked waste. No light to shave by. No stand for suitcase, even in double room. No welcome. If the door-bell worked, no-one answered. Front door turned out to be unlocked, so I entered & had to shout for attention. A young girl appeared & showed me to my room. She did not know the time of breakfast, no-one ever told me in 2 days: I had to guess.
6.7 Good

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Our host informed us of the annual outdoor show "Des flammes à la lumière" about World War I and the battle of Verdun. We got tickets and enjoyed the experience tremendously! We would never have seen this show if it were not for our host pointing this out to us.

Pros: Ghislaine is so kind and helpful, she made us feel at home! Her house is very central. The room was cozy and comfortable. Delicious breakfast!
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast we got for some Euro was great! It was a typical French breakfast with several handmade jams. We had it in the dining room of the older house where we could be on our own. We were glad the owner lived in that house cause we arrived later than exected and she did not have a problem with that.
Maison de 1853 - Verdun - Bedroom
11
8.9 Excellent (194 reviews)
7.1 Good
Pros: Great location. Easy walking to center of city. Host was just great, but the place is pretty tough for us. Keep in mind that we are a bit older.
Cons: Place was not what we expected. Unmarked door on a street which was a bit difficult.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast presentation was superb
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Roman was wonderful. He couldn’t do enough to help. When we asked if we could borrow 2plates and knives and forks, he set up a table for us with napkins, water and everything we needed. Breakfast was a feast with much more than we could eat. The position of Maison de 1853 is fantastic. We were able to walk to all of Verdun’s attractions but a car is needed to visit the battlefields and Rememberance Meuseum which is a must.
Cons: Nothing, everything was as stated.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Super cool room, clean and great location.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A very unique accommodation in the private house of the host Charles. Large Rooms. Garden in the backyard. We would come again.
Cons: Blankets could have been thinner. It was quite warm.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Spacious clean rooms, friendly staff. Quiet street, several steps to the centre. Great breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This stop was sensational. At first we were slightly apprehensive until Charles, the owner's son greeted us at the door. It is an absolutely unique stay. If you want corporate then don't go. This place is a little gem in the heart of Verdun. We got to stay in the Tin Tin room which was adorned with Tin Tin figures and posters. The whole house is a gold mine of little unusual treasures and touches. They even let us park our old 2CV citroën in the garage. The breakfast was a quintessential French dinning experience. The table was like a work of art. If you want a slice of eclectic France then book this place. So much thought has been put into this place to make it a 100% unique stop over in Verdun. Both my wife and I loved it.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Quirky, private home which felt very safe and a welcoming home. Good recommendation of restaurant for dinner and lovely breakfast out in the garden. Easy stroll to bars and restaurants. Parking next to the location in local square - nice and safe as overlooked by the police station.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Kind host, charming genuine family home, beautiful building, lovely breakfast
Cons: Nothing
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Good location in centre of Verdun, with easy and free parking. Very comfortable bed. Host Roman was courteous and helpful.
Cons: While accepting this is an old house, doors were very creaky - as our (private) toilet was down the corridor from our room, using it a night would have woken up my husband and possibly other guests!

6.7 Good
Pros: The owners were very pleasant. The breakfast, served in the bedroom was a good continental breakfast with fresh orange juice from home grown oranges and home made jams.
Cons: Our bedroom, "Basile" was really a bit too small; the room next door, "Leone" looked considerably more comfortable. Entry to the rooms was via a nice but tight staircase accessed from what looked like a large tractor shed - very unusual and not very welcoming. The location of the B&B, while only a 10 minute walk to the town centre, was in a run down part of town.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Extremely friendly and helpful and the breakfast was a real added bonus. The room is not overly large, but it's very nicely decorated. The area might look a bit run down but you soon get over that and realise its very safe. The parking was street parking but it was right outside the the front door
Cons: Nothing comes to mind
8.3 Excellent
Cons: It’s on a street that seems quiet but was very noisy at night due to cars going very fast and the windows open right onto the street so there was no way to stay cool with windows open because of the noise Also neither one of us could get on Wi-Fi the entire time

Cons: Slightly difficult staircase to get up to rooms and automatic lighting just a shade off perfect adjustment so light only came on after we had got to first step. Really good lighting as soon as it did come on. Even the large former warehouse area one enters through was spotlessly clean.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: The location is very convenient as a base to visit Verdun batterfield memories. The hosts are very nice, food is well prepared, we enjoined it. Last but not least the cost is ok for the services given.
Cons: Nothing at all. Of course the village itself is not very attractive, but you are not there for it
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were wonderful. They were very friendly and attentive. The food they cooked for us was lovely. It was nice to stay in somebody's home and get an authentic experience rather than just stay in a corporate hotel. It enabled us to meet other french guests.
Cons: I have nothing to complain about. It was excellent value for money.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The family was very friendly and the room was cozy. The dinner and breakfast were amazing! I definitely would recommend the place to everybody.

8.3 Excellent
Pros: On arrival, the girl at the hotel took pity on me and carried my case upstairs. We were asked if we'd like to have dinner/breakfast.. yes. The menu du jour was excellent: gazpacho, home made cheese ravioli in a cauliflower and truffle cream sauce. The choice at breakfast was also good
Cons: We had a room overlooking the place d'Eglise on the second floor: as a "senior citizen" with back problems, it was a long way to carry the cases up/down the spiral staircases. The bed was not the most comfortable, but ok. The biggest problem (and my own fault for not investigating) was the traffic noise.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were very friendly and the food in the restaurant of the hotel was absolutely amazing. If you want to visit Verdun, this is the hotel to book a room in!
6.7 Good
Pros: The atmosphere of an old building - takes you back in time. The staff was kind.
Cons: Hotel room (mine was number 7) a bit out-dated especially the bathroom.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel was rebuilt after the Great War in 1919. It has been carefully looked after and the present owners are a lovely friendly young couple who work really hard to create a welcoming atmosphere. We ate at the restaurant which was tasty local food at a decent price. Situated opposite the church, views are delightful.
Cons: We were two men on a motorbike holiday, so simple single beds were ok, but basic. To be fair we did not see any rooms other than our own so can’t say what they were like. Other than that no downsides.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: Great hotel, with welcoming and helpful hosts. Room was comfortable and had everything needed. We were offered a delicious vegetarian menu which was good value.
Cons: The rooms on the main road are noisy, as lorries do thunder through in the night.. So if possible ask for ones on the front rather than the side of the building.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A beautiful historic hotel with extremely nice owners and a lovely location. Also, dog friendly.
Cons: If you want to eat at the hotel’s restaurant make sure to reserve in advance
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very friendly and helpful owners/staff Nice interior, comfortable rooms and delicious meals. Housepets accepted
Cons: Breakfast is very meagre.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was a beautiful old hotel in the heart of the French Argonne. The couple who owns it are doing a wonderful job on the restoration. We were completely comfortable and looked out our window at the historic village church. We heard the beautiful angelus played on the church bells every evening. A special word for the food: Dinners were excellent, cooked by the owners, and we never wanted to go anywhere else.
6.0 Good
Pros: Rustic character of the hotel, big clean room and bathroom.
Cons: The bed mattress was beyond its use by date (concave). Myself and my partner would gravitate to the center of the bed during the night, due to the shape of the mattress and its lack of support.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Just excellent, the lady was took a real interest in us and our trip,I will definitely be visiting again and will recommend to everyone I know
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Very nice hotel and restaurant with very friendly staff. The village of Marville is exceptional, because the time seems to flow slower than elsewhere. The same is true for the Auberge de Marville. Both have a symbiotic relationship, which is very rare in our fast-paced times.
5.4 Okay
Pros: It was ok for a night stop. Expensive for what it was. Clean other than bedspread.
Cons: Our booking had not been noticed so reception lady was quite stressed. The available room however was in an annex a couple of streets away from main hotel and it looked like an office block conversion. Was quite a surprise as expected to be in hotel shown in the pictures. Bedspread looked grubby.

Pros: Nice hotel, easy to find, good value for money
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hotel is clean, staff friendly, the price was inexpensive. The rooms clean.
Cons: I strongly advise not to eat at the restaurant next to the hotel. High prices and below mediocre food.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: breakfast was great, comprehensive and fresh
6.7 Good
Pros: We got the room and bathroom we requested. The Verdun battle field memorials could not have been much closer.
Cons: We did not need breakfast but the first night we had dinner in the associated restaurant, it was our worse meal and most expensive in the 7 nights we were in France. Luckily we found excellent restaurant open on Tuesday & Wednesday at 1km towards Verdun. Because the reception was locked up most of the time there was no lounge are available.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The room was nicely decorated. Staff was very friendly. Facilities were very clean. It was the first place we've stayed in 9 nights that actually had a TV channel listing so we could easily find English channels.
Cons: The bed was very hard. We did not sleep well.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The location
Cons: Nothing, it was excellent all round
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Good service. Excellent access for someone with limited mobility.
Cons: It met our expectations
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was great!.
Cons: It was hard to find a place to eat for dinner on weekend nights.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was good: the coffee machine made quite good coffee, and there was muesli, juice, yogurt, fresh fruit and fruit cups as well as croissants and other pastry and breads. Rooms were bright and pleasant, large. They have roll-down blinds so you can make the room very dark for sleeping, which is nice. The hotel is in a very quiet area. The location is good, in pretty countryside not far (by car) from all the Verdun sites.
Cons: There did not appear to be air conditioning (we did not need it since the weather was cool, but at times it might be too hot without it).
