Clean comfortable quiet room, convenient for visit. Service in restaurant very un attentive.
Used for a weekend trip. rooms clean and comfortable. Staff were helpful when called upon. Hotel was full but not busy. No on site carparking although just in front and to the rear there were NCP car parks for which there was a 25% discount for hotel users. Bar prices as usual for hotels on the high side. Bar closed early even to residents.
Walking distance to the city centre which was great for nights out, easy to bring a car and have easy access to coast/countryside. Best of city/beach break. Great value for money, very nice hotel. Room cleaners come round very early as there are a mix of people in the hotel. It's Ok for business guests, but those wanting a lie in are woken up.
Close to the shops and restaurants, in walking distance. Cleanliness of the hotel rooms. Pleasant staff.
Staff friendly and helpful to foreigners. Patient and informative. We ordered food from the restaurant to our room but was told to bring our food to our room ourselves which we did. However, we later saw food being delivered to other guests room on the same day at a later time.
Location, close to city centre
Nice and close to the center of town Good Breakfast
Friendly Receptionist and comfortable, well appointed rooms.
Central, cheap, clean, comfortable Being woken by an outrageously loud alarm very early on Sunday morning!!!! And then again about an hour later!!!! We assumed that it was a test of the fire alarm (or false-alarm), but were not given any further information an apology. Also the bar closed very early.
This served our purpose which was a comfortable room and breakfast. The staff were hard working and polite.
The breakfast was very varied and good
Great location for exploring Exeter and it's surrounding areas Inconvenient parking arrangements.
everything was just perfect.
Comfortable bed; polite, friendly staff Towel rail didn't seem to be working, even when I found where to switch it on!
... after a night out we returned to hotel & decided to have a night cap @ bar. The bar man (Andy) was particularly friendly & professional. We had mentioned not having a kettle in the room, which we had thought was odd & in the morning there was a note under the door, explaining that the kettle was kept in a drawer! There are not many staff who would've bothered and we were very impressed by this personal attention to our enquiry, it made all the difference to our stay. All staff were friendly but he was particularly good. The bed was very comfortable. The room was a little tatty & in need of modernising. At first glance we could see that two single beds had been pushed together to make a double (despite having booked a double room), however this wasn't a particularly bad point as it meant the bed was massive! (A valance on the bed would've easily disguised this & not made it so obvious) The price list of food seemed very over priced £12.95 for burger & chips! For that price we would've expected very good food indeed but we were put off eating in the hotel because of the pricing so can not comment on its standards.
Newly decorated room was excellent - beds extremely comfortable Bars and restaurant (both decor and breakfast) did not match quality of rooms
The attention of the front desk personnel was outstanding, courteous and attending to my needs. I arrived late at night and was treated with excellence. The interior layout is complicated and there are insufficient signs to indicate the way to rooms, lifts and escape.
Nice Building, good location Couldnt find my reservation, 1st room we were given had not been cleaned and breakfast poor quality
Friendly staff , clean and good food. A lot of early morning outside noise.
A beautiful building - lovely staircase and stained-glass windows. Very welcoming, friendly staff. Good breakfast. The walls are very thin - could hear every noise from the corridor and next rooms. The car park is very tiny and difficult to get in and out of.
Room Was nice Only ceral and toast for breakfast, served in plastic bowls, plates knifes, spoons
Very clean Room was cold even with heating on (out side was above freezing) breakfast cardboard dishes for cereal and plastic spoons. Duvet not adequate cold during night. No towels in room.
We loved Arlington House, it was a haven in what was a very busy holiday. We spent a month in UK, stayed at 12 hotels, and Arlington House was our favorite. Diana was informative with our queries and always available if needed. we especially liked her generousity with her continental breakfasts. they were just wonderful. and we loved our front room with the view. No
Quiet ,had a good tv.Shower was nice and hot Bed too small and duvet too small, bed used to slide across the vinyl/fake wood floor when you got in it.Advertised with wifi but very weak signal in room and would disconnect continually. No decent pub/ restaurant in walking distance.Had tv at strange angle in room and difficult to view.
Friendly countryside neighbourhood. Good location for trips to South-West England.
The rooms were huge and clean, shower was lovely, breakfast facilities were excellent!!! Would return again!
Clean and comfortable. Newly reburbished room and bathroom. 24 hour snacks! Mainly cereal and toast for breakfast. Scones and cakes also supplied for breakfast. Awkward layout of furniture. Secluded location.
The rooms were nice and spacious and the code-based keysystem was perfect, you could come and you as you pleased. Cooked breakfast would have been nice, but it was ok this way.
We were able to get into the 'hotel' and room by passcode. Availability for the night. Clean, welcoming, warm. . No sign to know where the 'hotel' was. No cooked breakfast..
Friendly owners, nice pub down stairs.
The Silverton Inn is in a charming village 15 minutes drive from Exeter, the last mile is a single track road. It is not ensuite and the breakfast was very basic. The people are quite friendly and it's quiet.
The hotel was situated perfectly for our requirements.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The food was very good. Being in a room above the bar with the windows open it was very noisy until after midnight.
The Breakfast Sharing bathroom facilities with four contractors!!
Welcoming, friendly, helpful, staff. Well supported by the local people. Good food and fine selection of local ales. Possible problem with drains in en suite bathroom of our room, got occasional whiff of same
the food and service no double bed had to have a put up double which was uncomfortable?
Room good size and not cramped whichhad adjoining dressing room between bathroom and bedroom. Closeness to the village whch was compact, excellent range of shops, ideal centre for walking, etc. Staff helpful and very pleasant, would come again. This is not a complaint, but should be born in mind for all hotels: ALL bathrooms should have a rail over the bath to prevent slippage and aid children and elderly people to get in and out of baths safely, even if not disabled. Shower over bath, water extremely hot and with a mixer tap and extended hose/shower, difficult to regulate.
A good hotel, staff that was very pleasant and helpful with excellent food, a nice pub and good wines, what more can you wish? In our first room, although a very nice one with a good view, there was only a bath without shower, also one of the beds was on the soft side..
Very large room, very good steaks, very helpful and friendly staff, very good value for money, in a lovely setting well placed for discovering Dartmoor. The beds were a bit soft and there was no shower, just a bath.
Good atmosphere with open fire good room and friendly staff. Great meal with good choice.
Absolutely loved the room! Had a lovely view out the front, across the church and into distant hills. Large spacious room - with 2 three seater sofas! None - very nice experience
The room is clean and the food is absolutely delicious!! Loved the atmosphere at the bar as well. None really!
Friendliness and helpfulness of staff Quality of the food setting There weren't any
Very nice spacious room. Liked the bar area; good service. No parking. We arrived on a Friday about 11.30 and could find nowhere to park - a bit of a problem as my Husband cannot walk too far. The description of the hotel sugggests that you would have no problem getting a parking space in the public car park - to be sure of this I would suggest arriving after the shops are closed.
The friendly welcome, and good food Room 24 uncomforably hot. Have to sleep with window open and therefore in a draft.
Very good food. Bathroom too small.
The services and staff were excellent in making you welcome and service in the restaurant could not be faulted
The staff were very helpful and the hotel & grounds were well maintained Dinner was not very good
the food was excellent with bright and friendly staff the room was extremely hot
excellent breakfast and good light lunches in comfortable dining area Duvets are too hot, lighter bedding should be available
I liked the friendly, helpfull & efficient staff at the hotel
Cleanliness, quiet Breakfast overpriced
Very convenient for Exeter and for visiting friends in Devon
The hotel was very welcoming and all staff friendly. The room provided comfortable accommadation and the breakfast was delicious. We would have liked to have been able to check in earlier as we were attending a wedding and had to leave early to make sure we didn't lose our room.
Very friendly welcomoing staff, good relaxed atmosphere, good food, comfotable room, good location for city centre.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was was quiet with a good shower. We had an evening meal which was good value and served promptly as was the breakfast which was well cooked and plentiful. The draught beer was very well kept. The carpet in our room was stained in places and there was a strong smell of stale tobacco smoke. In the main reception part of the hotel there was a strong smell of drains, which kept drifting through while we were eating ,this was very unpleasant. We didn't mention it to the staff as we were only there for 1 night and didn't spend much time there.
The breakfast was excellent, cooked to order. Staff were very friendly and curtious. Room was warm and comfortable. The bathroom was cold, not much heating.
location to city centre plus train station. meals were reasonably priced and pub had a friendly atmosphere. nosie late at night and early morning plus no cntral heating. when first arrived room took ages to heat up using air con plus 1 small ineffectual electric heater
Excellent location for city centre, everything within easy walking distance.
Beautiful location and exceptionally quiet country retreat. Charming building & excellent service from all the staff. We also enjoyed the tour of the hotel's vegetable garden by the Head Gardener, who is a great credit to this special hotel. The bedroom furnishings and bathroom are starting to look tired in places. The breakfast lacked a "wow" factor. However, neither of these disappointments spoilt a great stay. Thank you to all the team.
Excellent location for the airport. Very comfortable stay, would definately recommend and stay again.
Really helpful and pleasant staff Wardrobe space
Food was excellent, reasonably priced, home-made and a refreshing change. No time limit on breakfast on a Sunday morning! Lovely room. Staff very helpful, friendly and polite. No bad points
Staff very friendly and helpful Floor in rooom initialy not clean. This was bought to the attention of the staff and an effort was made to rectify this. Not enough natural light in the room.
Really simple on line booking process totally without stress. Knew exactly which room we would be staying in having chosen from those available during the booking process. A thoroughly good stay which really was "what it said on the tin" The breakfast was a feast for even the most ravenous - coffee to die for..! (Just for a pleasant change). Nit picking I know but...... The tv did not have channel itv2 ( on a THURSDAY....my wife is an avid soap watcher.....)
Converted stable block with 4 rooms. Breakfast in the pub next door. Superb power shower.
The food, old pub surroundings and staff were very good. Our toilet leaked and the skylight would have been better with a blackout lining in our room
Very clean well equiped rooms, beds very comfy and very powerful shower. Fairly new conversion in old stables located between Inn and the carpark. Very quiet when we stayed in November staff very welcoming and helpful even though we did not arrive till gone 10 pm
Food excellent as was the service Can think of no bad points
The room was clean and pleasant. We had difficulty finding it with no directions and had to telephone twice for directions. The staff where not really interested and as we used it for the airport we left at 7.30 with no breakfast.
Staff are friendly and the hotel is pleasant
Relaxed surroundings, Great staff
The staff where excellent and where very helpful. The room looks a bit tired and need abit of a makeover The room itself looks old fashion but good value for money
We were not too impressed whent he fire alarm went off at 7am and we could hear our neighbouring room playing thier music very loudly from early in the morning which kept us up. So although comfort and facuilities were more than adequate the nooise control could have been better
By far the best thing about my stay was the breakfast! All the food was locally sourced and the bacon, sausage and eggs were exceptional.
Convienient and quiet
To be honest I found the hotel very old fashioned and in dire need of modernisation. I could not open my bedroom window, one of the curtains was partly off the rail, the tv tuned into CBeebies and not much else, I struggled to get an internet connection from my room and the avocado bathroom had a loose hot tap on the basin. The bar had no atmosphere at all .... there was a tv there but it was not switched on for some reason. There was a strange musty smell about the bar and lounge area. Not sure how the hotel qualifies for its AA 3* rating
Menu and food better than expected
Nothing On entering the bathroom I was confronted by a dirty toilet bowl (without going in to detail). I am not sure the towels had been changed The room was cold and I was unable to heat the room The wifi would not work
Breakfast was very nice, furnishing were very pleasant. Everyone was very nice. As above, not much atmosphere in lounge/bar area.
We stayed there some years ago and it is now much improved Dining room/resturant has yet to be refurbished and is looking 'tired'
The restaurant was improved as was the decorations. Room clean.
staying to visit friends so did not use hotel much. English breakfast expensive.
recently refurbished room, food good, attended family party at the hotel so very convenient for us
Freindly staff,near to town,food good. n/a
Resturant food greaty overpriced and only of average quality
All the meals were very enjoyable but the helpings rather large for us. Availabilty of porridge at breakfast particularly appreciated. Staff very friendly and helpful. Facilities for the civil wedding we attended were excellent.
The food was great, including breakfast. Rooms were spacious and clean. Staff were friendly and helpful on the whole. Having been told that the bar was open, and we could order drinks on arrival, the male member of staff moaned loudly that he 'didn't expect to be making coffee at this time of night'! This made us feel a little awkward!
Location was perfect to break our journey down to cornwall Prices in the restraunt seemed a little on the high side for the average families to cop with .But the bar snack menu was fine and prices werefar more reasonable
Just comfortable.... The meals were a little spartan with portion control..and took a while for them to be served
Shower was hopeless
Good location, friendly staff, good food, warm and comfortable.
They have a nice chef and his cooking is out of this world Recently my new improvements to bar/dinning area Car park too much gravel hurts the bottom of your feet, some rooms are dated but improvements are underway
Comfortable room, courteous staff, clean and functional. Excellant breakfast. The bar was comfortable but the large screen television we found rather intrusive, although we could well be in the minority.
Friendly helpful reception that provided the tourist information we wanted and advice for the cold weather. Very unusually, there were no faults at all in the room! The food was poor and the waiter, though friendly, clearly had no training in customer service. Choice for vegetarians almost non-existent.
I thought the service was exceptional I arrived at nine thirty and asked if there was food available, the staff said kitchen did close at mine thirty but would ask the chef if hecwould wait a few mins, I checked in ordered my food. Not many places would put themselves out like that. It was greatly appreciated and u wouldn't stay anywhere else in. Exeter now and would highly recommend it to my friends.
Easy access to major road system. Pleasant surroundings, very friendly, attentive but not pushy staff, good food nicely presented. The shower curtain didn't prevent water soaking the floor and this left a damp smell in the bathroom.
heating was on
The Rooms were clean, tidy and comfortable and the venue perfect for my trip. Breakfast although good with good service the Sausages were the worst I have eaten.
Very good facilities set in a lovely situation and good accessibility to Exeter
Very nice garden area, staff being very helpful with my toddler son. Excellent choice of food for breakfast A bit pricey ,would have liked to of stayed longer.
Very nice Hotel, we had a ground floor room to the rear of the Hotel which was clean, tidy and furnished to a standard you would expect. There was a wedding the weekend we stayed and was a bit concearned as previous reviews had stated they were not happy with particular aspects. But we had no issues with the wedding party in fact it was greatr to see everyone enjoying thereselves and thier day. We had a mini powercut to our room which knocked out most of the lights apart from one set. This was quickly rectified. To be able to open the patio door would have been nice as this was locked with no key visible.
Helpful and efficient staff. Excellent breakfast. Clean room. Free wi-fi. Hot, high pressured water for shower and bath. The hotel was too hot during our two day stay, even with room radiator off.
Staff very helpful. Free broadband. Very clean Too far to walk into central Exeter
Food, Service Room very hot
Well equipped room and bathroom, very clean, comfortable bed. There was a wedding reception in the hotel first night but we were not at all disturbed by noise. A little far out of town, but bus stop right outside. Would not have mattered at all in fine weather.
the food and the staff but the tv was a bit difficult to get on with
Lovely breakfast, good parking, good access from motorway and into town centre On a main road, shabby and frayed furnishings, most of the grounds were the car park, room similar to a travelodge not a four star ex country house
Restauant food good Room 45 has its headboard against the corridor wall and therefore it was a little noisy. Also there is an air-con/extractor fan operating v. near outside the window (from the restaurant?) This was switched off at about 23.00
Comfortable room and facilities with easy and central access to Exeter city centre. no need for taxis. Staff on check in could have been easier to deal with.
Leaving I specifically confirmed with staff on booking about the availability of parking - this is why I booked your hotel. On arrival there was no parking and this caused me to miss a very important meeting, as well as completely messing up my entire stay.
the rooms were far too hot.
I loved the whole time at Mercure and will recommend your hotel to my friends, lovely atmosphere, great decor and facilities, made use of the pool, jacuzi and sauna. Enjoyed a well presented and tasty meal and will try the breakfast next time.
Breakfast not being included in the room rate
Classy environment, comfortable beds, good staff, excellent breakfast choice, good secure car parking Dinner menu is over-priced but otherwise acceptable.
Very welcoming/ staff very helpful, polite. Very tasteful decor. Food excellent. No
easy parking near Hotel room quality substandard
good clean hotel if a little dated. friendly staff .close to city centre and also exeter quay which was excellent added bonus of free parking prices of drinks and breakfast was a little extortionate
Pleasant place, pleasant staff, pleasant town. We have stayed here before and were glad to return. The necessity of having to use the town car park.
Relaxed, friendly atmosphere. Well kept hotel. Very pleasant indeed. Only let down by breakfast food and service. Breakfast service was extremely poor every mornng. Food under cooked. Raw sausages. A general lack of everything. A real let down for what what was otherwise a lovely break and a pleasant hotel. Please pass on this comment.
Lovely old hotel in a lovely village, we had an excellent value mid-week deal including a very high standard three course meal for us both. Huge room and bed and one of the best full-english breakfasts I've had in a while.
Very comfortable bed. Fresh modern room. Clean. Good food. Some rooms located across the road from the hotel. Which means that the hotel are not aware of guests who are drunk and disturbing others staying in the mews. The design of the mews allows nosie from guests entering and leaving to echo around the building and thus disturb others. Staff unsympathetic to problems.
Nicely appointed rooms, friendly staff Fairly small range of lager beer available - was missing my Stella - nowhere to be found in the village.
It's close location to our friends. My husband has difficulties managing stairs, particularly going down. There appears to be no rooms at ground floor level. I did phone ahead to check..
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms were satisfactory. The restaurant was excellent I would suggest that the water pressure could be improved as the shower was very weak.
A very warm and cosy hotel with an excellent restaurant and comfortable accomodation Lack of free car parking - had to use public car park down the road.
Old world charm Parking was not at the hotel. The restaurant was not open Sunday evening!!
A comfortable hotel with attentive staff, excellent food close proximity to Dartmoor. We had a room close to the main road and it was noisy at times, but we could have moved if we had asked. Next visit we have already discussed with the Manageress and a quieter room would be provided.
