The Bar Harbor Motel isn't fancy, but it's clean, and the staff is extraordinarily friendly and helpful. I would characterize the motel as being great for families, or for hikers looking for a relatively inexpensive place to sleep and a free breakfast before hitting the trails at Acadia National Park. There are not many "creature comforts," but the beds are comfortable and the showers are hot, which is what hikers are really looking for. I would certainly stay there again.
The proximity to the town of Bar Harbor, the cleanliness of the grounds and room, the free morning coffee and the price. The only thing was that one of the bedside lamps did not work properly.
Great location right near Bar Harbor village and the Island Explorer shuttle. Cheap compared with other locations in BH and easy parking. Clean facility and friendly staff. Just keep in mind this is a BUDGET motel, so these are not criticisms just more "what to expect." It's an older and dated facility. It's clean but has a slightly musty smell. Bathrooms are small but serviceable.
We absolutely loved this little motel. It is older, and not luxurious, but they have added little touches that made our stay wonderful. The beds were very comfortable and the pillows were great. Everything was spotless, even if a little old. It was so much more fun and preferable all around to stay here rather than at a chain hotel. The staff, which included the family who owns the motel, was very helpful and friendly. We will be going back next time we get to Bar Harbor. The bedspreads, carpet and chairs could use some refurbishing - but they were clean and not really a big deal!
Pool, location The bed was pretty stiff and the pillows were all down, not very comfortable. Also the TV was super old.
Good location and well-kept building and grounds. Bed was a little uncomfortable. Window in the kitchenette did not have a fully-covering curtain.
Wow, what a find outside of the expensive Bar Harbor. The staff was fabulous and the setting, including a wonderful long nature trail on the property, was tremendous. Very large rooms (some quaint cabins!) with kitchenettes. Only minutes from downtown. The owner recommended a wonderful scenic drive which we would not have know about and recommended a great restaurant downtown for breakfast. We will go back! The shower hot/cold water control was very problematic.
Motel room: large room. Back door to large shared deck. Motel room: did not feel safe- No deadbolt or even chain on doors. Curtains barely covered windows. Very dated and in need of updating. Tiny old bathroom. Dirty carpet.
The location of the Mount Desert Street Motel is fabulous! You can walk anywhere downtown easily and you can access Acadia National Park by car in just a few minutes. It was very quiet and peaceful - a great value considering the great location.
So convenient to downtown! Easy to walk. Quiet location. We would stay again. Cathy the owner was very nice and helpful!
Very clean and very close to everything 5 min drive to downtown town bar harbor A bit small BUT lots to do in the area so only sleeping there was out we could do
From my research most other hotels in the area are more expensive, so we chose this one based on price. It gives you the minimum necessary: a bed, a shower with towels and toiletries, TV and free WIFI. So it did meet our minimum requirements. Just wish it looked nicer. Should this inn be located in another place, I would be worried about safety issues, based on how it looked; but then I saw our neighbors, who were all there as tourists, like us, so that made me feel better. The place looks very old, and it looks like a lot of DIY happened there. The tile on the shower wall looks like it was placed by an amateur, and just the quality of the construction is very poor. Broken window screen, and the windows in general don't close/open well.
