Great Location close to Center of Cotonou
The B&B is located in a well off neighbourhood near to the GIZ and Swiss Development offices as well as close to the German Embassy, so it feels secure for foreigners to walk around without any issues. It is a small B&B run by an older lady who was very friendly and welcoming when I arrived. The room I stayed in was clean and well equipped with AC, a fan, a desk with a chair and a large bed (with a mosquito net over the frame, unlike many other places with AC). Breakfast was pleasant with bread, butter, jam and fresh fruit as well as juice and coffee (nescafé as per usual in Benin). Also, it is within walking distance of the Marché des artisans. I felt really welcome at the B&B where you notice that it is only small (with 3 rooms) in a positive way.
There isn't so much choice of places to eat directly near the hotel (compared to Cadjehoun) but there are still enough places that this isn't really a problem.
I would like to start my review from the fact that I requested an airport pick up taxi at 21:10 but could get out of the airport only at 23:10 and the taxi driver was still waiting for me! The driver had to wait so long, because my luggage as well as the baggage of many people traveling from Istanbul to Cotonue was lost somewhere on the way and never arrived (at least mine did not). I was the only one, who stayed at the hotel at the Christmas eve. Popo, who is taking care of the hotel, speaks very little English, therefore he had to call all the time to the owner, who communicated with me. I would like to thank all people, who tried and helped me to buy some clothes and change money with a very good exchange rate. Bring 50$ and 100$ new banknotes produced after 2009, if you want to have the best exchange rate. At the end I was even offered to stay one night for free, if I wanted to get some news on 26th of December from Turkish Airlines, who lost my luggage. I had to leave, because I booked a room in Ouidah, but it was an unexpectedly pleasant offer. The hotel is very well located in a safe embassy district. My room had a double bed, AC, mosquito net, hot shower, terrace outside, strong internet. One time I wanted to get bananas late in the evening and Popo went to his place and brought 2-3 kg of fresh bananas from his own tree! Absolutely for free! Amazing hospitality!
The bed was a bit hard as in many places in West Africa and breakfast can be improved. You get an African baguette, butter and jam, instant coffee or tea, condensed milk, fresh orange juice and a bowl of fresh pineapple. I was actually full after the breakfast but it misses some variety.
It is a very nice property in a quiet area of Cotonou. It is very conveniently located close to the airport and they can arrange transport to and from the airport. There are also two nice restaurants close by (L'Impala and Maquis de Residence).
You may have some problems to communicate your wishes if you don't speak any French. Communication on this platform is not a problem but the staff did not speak any English during my visit so it had to be sorted out in French and with some communication issues (which was all fine in the end but sometimes a little problematic).
