budget hostel, good location, short walk from Royal Mile, clean room
Good bar, nice outdoor terrasse. Location of the hostel. Too much noice. Too hot in the rooms. Long waiting-time for checiking in.
yes, the huge noise due to the hotel bar just under the rooms....
Location and the bar The staff were not friendly. The room had an innapropriate magazine left in it from, i presume, the last occupant. The shower room did not have the soap dispenser filled (it was empty). The TV stations kept losing reception. T
location there was weird smell in bathroom all the time....
Self catering facilities no free WIFI
Towels were changed daily. Shower and washroom are clean and comfortable. Great breakfast and simple but delicious dinner.
Centrally located, modern hotel. Great bar.
The central location and the cleanliness of the rooms. It was also fairly quiet for a hostel in middle of edinburgh The shower that flooded the bathroom floor, despite turning it the other way as much as poss.
this place is brand new, in heart of the old town and, modern, clean, and overall fantastic.
4 person suite that held the family. Our own bathroom and shower. Fresh and updated. We didn't use the other amenities. Definitely recommend A little loud from some guests using the outdoor Café below our window but not bad.
Very helpful receptionists. A few more signs to the hostels would be good, espec with building work. A tad pricey for student acc.
Great breakfast with lots of choices - at times a little overcrowded, but I was only there at Festival time.Organisation/running of the buffet was excellent. I didnt like the card system for lifts, doors, inner and outer doors ... that was most annoying, and in addition had lots of problems with my card not swiping efficiently - had to return to reception several times - a time waster and you had to walk out in bad weather to get to reception --- I found that quite annoying; either get the system working well or return to good old fashioned keys!! The location was listed as a short walk from Waverley Railway Station ...this is totally incorrect and misleading ...its a very very long walk, and its uphill --- not easy or pleasant if you are dragging a suitcase!
i had to check out in the early hours, and they had a packed lunch ready for me, great value.
Clean, friendly, well situated The last night 2 drunken young men ran through the corridors at 3 am knocking on doors an shouting and singing
We got there late at night and checked in at the Reception Center. Very easy. Rooms are basic dorm rooms. My husband thought the bed was too firm, I thought it was just right. We were a little worried about noise level, but there was no problem at all! Staff very friendly. Short walk to the Royal Mile. If you come out the main entrance and turn right, Arthur's Seat is just in front of you. Breakfast was a buffet and we had no problem finding something that we liked every morning. Pancakes go very fast. We will for sure use this hotel again! We thought we had read here that dinner was every night for 12 pounds but the one night we were too exhausted to eat out and came back, it was not open. It was Easter though so that might have been the reason. I would just check with the reception center on check-in to see if there are any night they are not serving dinner.
could feel the springs in the mattress on the bed.
It was typical student accomodation but in quite a leafy location with great views of Arthur's Seat. Its a small point but there could have been more information about how to access the hall and at what end of the building the room was located. Other residents seem to have had the same problem.
Nice hotel at the university of Edinburgh - relatively cheap, good location for either conferences or visiting Edinburgh in general, decent breakfast, friendly staff, paid internet at room available.
Someone could have told us we needed to bring own sleeping bags and towels wasn't mention in your confirmation of booking
The room is really clean, and the breakfast is nice. The hotel is located about 20min walk from the city centre (waveley train station, Edinburgh castle, etc), which is acceptable. Also there are several bus services to and from the city centre. It may take some time to first-time guests to find their rooms after getting keys from the main reception (maybe some more signs will be of great benefit).
The common kitchen area: it's inviting and well equiped. The 24 hr staff are very helpful and I liked that music streamed in through the open windows at night. Good place to sit and interact with other guests. The location makes all of Edinburgh very accessable. I had a top tier bunk, so two people slept below me and there wasn't much head space left. Shower and bathroom facilities are small and universally shared. Both of these are fine as long as you expect them coming in.
Locations is great, a bit hidden but in close to everything in city centre, and Waverly station. We only came back to sleep in the room for a few hours. Rabbies Tours cafe/bus stop. We only had contact with 2 staff members both spoke spanish, Eduardo and a young lady with dark hair. They were both helpful and accommodating with our luggage. Email response is also quick. Restrooms and showers were okay and clean. The sheets of the beds and cover had stains some dark black stains and small blood stains.
Nice showers and cleaned toilets. Good equiped kitchen for make by yourself dinner. Internet and wi-fi ( pay ). Customers and staff very educated, no noisy, very close to the central bus stop for the airport. Room too small for 4 beds and frozing. No chair,no bed lights, no lockers free, Matrass absolutly no-comfortable: only metals and not insulated with wool or cotton. Orrible sleeping. Why not to buy poliuretan matrass? Economic and easy to clean or change. Breakfast just with bread + margarin + marmelade, coffe/tea and some fruits. Too poor.
To have the very simple room supplied by the kitchen facilities, including the possibility to have a "meeting place" with our companion travelers
Very friendly staff, good location
A great mix of location, price and cleanliness. Not really! Only that they were closing in 2 days (for start of term as uni accommodation) so they didn't have much in terms of snacks etc. for sale.
very convenient location, within walking distance to most attractions. It has a communal kitchen which allowed us to prepare a meal. definitely for those on a budget Room was tiny, barely enough space for the 2 of us. can hear footsteps from people walking along the corridor. but given that the place was budget, its still good value for money.
No cups in kitchen, and no replacement of towels or soap over 5 days
Near the High Street,
the fact that it was in the centre of edinburgh therre was no cooking equipment provided apart from a frying pan
The staff were very helpful, welcoming and pro-active. And the location was amazing! Within minutes of most major fringe venues.
Convenience of locatioin - right in the heart of the city Price was ok, but considering the standard and cleanliness of room (generally ok but sheets were stained) would have expected it to be about 20% less
Warm welcome, close to centre
I was the first guest to ever stay at the hotel, there was absolutely no one else around all night, no staff or guests which made the stay somewhat spooky. The hotel was not yet completely finished so it is difficult to judge how nice it will be at the end. What had bbeen done so far seemed to be carried out to a high standard though and the one member of staff I did meet was very nice.
Nice rooms very clean and well decorated. No lift but only three floors.
Good location - quiet area but walking distance of station and city centre. Chaps working on reception/bar were lovely, friendly, helpful and fun. Nice modern bar and public areas, lovely building, light and airy. V cheap for larger groups. i would only recommend for a really cheap and basic 'somewhere to get your head down' stay based on my experience - the smaller rooms may have been better but didn't see them. One member of staff spoilt if for others (quite 'off-hand'). Carpet in room and floors in bathrooms quite dirty. Some basics missing in larger room, ie no hooks/wardrobes to hang anything, hardly any sockets, no tables or anything to put personal items on. Shower had very little power.Lights in room didn't work after 11.30pm, only floor level 'night lights' would come on which were bright and we had to cover with shoes so we could sleep. The main lights came back on automatically about 8 in the morning....very odd experience!
Hotel has just been refurbished and quality of facilities and decoration is very good. No hot water available at any time during stay. Only bread available at breskfast was moulldy.
The West End Hotel is a fantastic place to stay, I would highly recommend it
Good location, very friendly staff, cooked breakfast. Good value for money. Room will not be tidied up without asking, also you have to ask for fresh towels.
the australian girl in the bar was nice but all the other staff were rude and lazy our room was at the top of the hotel with no lift so we had to climb 74 stairs, the shower was no more than a trickle, we had 2 sachets of coffee in the room for the whole weekend and on the sunday we were asked to make our own tea and toast for breakfast, the room was small and the two single beds in it were tiny, you could barely turn over without falling out
Friendly informative staff. Eye catching modern decor. Backpackers in dormitory rooms and in their night clothes at breakfast. Is this a youth hostel or a quality hotel experience. We were on top floor - the stairs are very demanding with no lift option.
The room was clean and attractive. The advertised free WiFi did not work and the staff was not knowledgeable on its operation. The lack of staff's control over unruly guests.
The location. The lack of heating and parking.
