The hotel projects a rustic and unfussy charm. The dinner in the restaurant (which was well attended by locals) was excellent regional French cooking; the breakfast was simple but good.
Basic but clean
Very friendly staff Poor sound insulation between rooms
The manager running the place was superb, nothing short of that. Friendly, charming, helpful and very efficient. Nothing amiss. Restaurant was superb. Room were cramped but we knew that when we booked. Four cyclists sharing a room was always going to be cozy!
Rooms are a good size with lovely comfortable beds and have duvets. Bathroom are a good size with showers & bath but are a little old fashioned with the decor. The restaurant is excellent and the staff are friendly and accommodating. Excellent car parking. This hotel is truly a little gem and we will have no hesitation in recommending. No Tea/Coffee making facilities in the room. No breakfast available when the restaurant was closed - we could not have breakfast because our stay was a sunday night and the restaurant appears not to open on monday - an alternative of a breakfast tray with a kettle and perhaps a breakfast pastry would have been welcome.
The staff were excellent and the food was excellant The room was basic, but clean and adequate
Location, friendliness of staff, charm Thin walls - we could hear everything said in the next room. Breakfast - great coffee, but overall a very poor value for the money - you're better off at a local café. It's a nice place to stay, but a little expensive for what you get.
Friendly staff and a pleasant rural feel. Breakfast was a little too expensive.
The resaurant attached to the hotel is very good. The rooms were functional, a bit dated but perfectly adequate for a 1 or 2 night stay.
Chilling out on the veranda, had a great meal and lots of local wine for 4 people and it came to less than £100 with all drinks included.
We stayed here because of the Proust connection and were not disappointed. It is a grand old hotel that is absolutely beautiful. Staff was lovely and the breakfast was excellent. It is really, really expensive.
we had a four star room with fabulous seaviews, but 2 star service throughout the hotel. The hotel history seems to be what the hotel rests on which is not enough and very little attempt is made to enhance the experience. We were left feeling that it was our privelage to stay there and that there was no need to make any effort for the guests. The quality of the room luckily couterbalanced this. However, we would not return.
Breakfast was good; the room was comfortable if strangely decorated The fire alarm (practice?) which all but we seemed to ignore.
I liked the architectural style of this grand old hotel. The bar service was excellent. The staff was very helpful. The suite was not air conditioned and was somewhat stuffy with the windows closed. With the windows open, this particular suite was susceptible to the noise from the street and the casino. Other suites on the beach, east side would not have the problem of street or casino noise with open windows. Wifi reception on my computer was sporadic and was on a pay-as-you-go basis through Orange.
Still one of the very best locations in this part of the Norman seaside, including Deauville. The room on 1st floor was directly located above the dustbin and supply area . Very noisy supplying and discharging started 4:00 a.m.
The service, the quality and variety of the food, the position, and the general feeling of being somewhere special. Nothing
The location of the hotel. Very easy to check in and out. No reserved parking for hotel guests coming by car. Expensive breakfast.
Very nice and confortable room in a great location The only missing service is clearly a pool!
The rooms were pleasantly decorated, spacious, and the bathroom had a really good shower. We paid extra for the breakfast when we booked. When we checked in this was not mentioned and we had to ask about the breakfast. At first they said we didn't have breakfast included, then they looked it up and acknowledged that it was in fact included. No big problem, but if we hadn't asked we wouldn't have been told where to go or any of the details.
We came because of Proust and becuase my Father had always wanted to come here. The setting is beautiful. The Hotel does not make enough of its Atrium and the tables are around the edge without a defined area to sit and have coffee or a drink. The Breakfast would have been excellent if the coffee and hot water had been hot. The caftiere was not full so only two cups of coffee possible. The food in the restuarant was abominable. I mentioned this to the Front desk but they said nothing. We have eaten a many of Frances' top restaurants and have been coming to France since the 1950'S. We ate the meal only becuase we had not eaten all day. The food is incredibly expensive and just nonsense. The rooms are showing their age with paint bashed etc.
the pool and reception no
Location, facilities, room with balcony, surrounding area.
At first we thought it was too far out of the town but it was an easy drive and quieter than a hotel in the town would have been. We liked the attic room tho' s lift would have been nice! Buffet breakfast was good if a bit expensive.. The restaurant was closed on the Sunday which was a nuisance. We had to make do with some food we had in the car as we did not want to go into the town to eat.
Quite close to town.
Large rooms for France. Recommend the restaurant open 1 hour earlier.
Cosy, quiet, peaceful, clean and perfectly functional little house. Nice view, nice short walk to restaurants and shops. Good spa center. Price for spa a bit too expensive.
Very quiet setting near the center of town. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The costs of the spa facilities was steep in relation to the room cost.
Simple, efficient, nice view over Houlgate (from some buildings/rooms, not all) No reception service in the evening. The hotel staff left our key and info package for us to pick on arrival locked in a box outside reception with a code unknown to us. Luckly the parking security knew the code and could open the box. If he wasn't there, I do know how we could have known that the key was in that box. Strange system and no information given beforehand.
It was a wonderful, quiet getaway. Not easy to get to if you don't have a car but terrific for walks into town to nice restaurants. Also great to walk from town to town on the beach and to take a nice lunch in other coastal towns. Really overall couldn't have been happier with the experience. And the view was breath taking. Everything great about France was there. Tfhe hotel was experiencing some trouble with water for several days and water use was spotty. Never went without for long but I did have a shower cut short.
The room, the view at the pool, the location, up on a hill with seaview, eventhough it was a little too far to go to the beach by feet. It was a little too bad there wasn't a double bed in the bedroom, instead of the two separated beds.
Location, good quality-price relationship Problem with wireless in the room (I had to go to connect to reception), a little bit old fashioned hotel not luxurious but right and clean for the price paid. Good service at reception desk
The staff were very pleasant and helpful. It was quiet. Comfortable. Nicely decorated. No facilities for making drinks (we British love our tea!)
Extremely good central location in Lisieux. Good sized comfortable rooms and decent facilities. Breakfast was varied and would cater to all tastes.
Close to city centre Rooms in need of updating
Very good overnight stay during our journey south west, 2 rooms booked for mine and my friends family, all 8 of us pleased.
Very central location with plenty of parking space across the road from the hotel Bedroom could do with a bit of redecoration / modernisation
Lisieux is an excellent middle point to visit Normandy- D day beaches, Mt Saint Michel, etc. The Best Western is in the center of this very cute little town and has excellent service and rooms. We loved the three nights we spent there.
We had a lovely light and spacious family room with a large bathroom with bath and shower. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room, quite noisy at night and warm as it is not air conditioned
grande chambre. very agreeable with not expensive price
It was a sunny summer's day but there were no facilities to sit outside in the sun. The (new) garden needs more development to improve its benefit to the hotel. No long mirror in the bedroom.
Your hotel is very lovely with great accomodations. The staff was helpful (and fortunately fluent in English as we are not fluent in French). Our dinner in the dining room was excellent and breakfast the next morning was terrific. Would recommend this hotel to all I know.
An excellent small hotel
Good location - excellent restaurant - efficient service n/a
Existence of lake at the back of the hotel and of a diving cormorant at the lake
The breakfast lounge No elevator - Need to hand carry the luggage to 2nd floor.
the lake so close and nice....
The lakeside location was good but too far to walk in to Pont Eveque for a meal. The room was rather small and the outside of the hotel needs a good tidy up. It seemed a rather tired place and was not as good value for money as our following night at the Hotel Robic, Pontivy.
I arrived very late 5am the next morning but the key and full instructions had been left as arranged by phone earlier
Good evening meal. Polite and friendly staff Slow check in as only one lady at busy bar when we arrived at 8pm Room hot and too many insects to leave windows open - insect mesh blinds would be great.
Room had pleasant views of the lake. Quality holesome food that was good value. Room a little tired with some mould in bathroom around shower. SAT TV only had French channels! Could be made more cheerful with pictures etc.
The quit and simple style no
Good quiet location. The price of the room was quoted at 55 Euro. However because our reservation was through Booking .com for 66 Euro we had to pay this price. Not a good advertisement for your service as it would be better to make a direct reservation
The efficiency and friendliness of the staff no
wonderful staff, great location for St. Therese sites
Hotel meal was very good and staff were friendly and helpful No bad points really
the staff were competent and friendly. it was very central to all the sites
Restaurant very good, though wine was a little expensive for what was offered. Reception staff very obliging. Cleaning staff courteous and did a very good job. Room was tired and shower did not work properly, there were better rooms in the hotel and I would have preferred this option when booking. Hotel was unable to offer a better room on arrival because it was full.
It was obvious the hotel had recently opened ( workmen still on site ) the location is excellent for exploring the Compiegne forest. However basic amenties in the hotel ( coffe tea making in the room ) non existent also very poor local facilities restaurants etc, overall a good basic reasonably priced hotel for business. A few more facilities would make it ideal for a family holiday in the local area. Poor facilities in the room and lack of local restaurants in the town.
The hotel was clean, comfortable and in a lovely place. Breakfast was quite good too. I do not think people should pay for parking although in saying that we couldn't use the car park because of height restrictions.
Good sea view from front rooms of hotel. Rooms clean roomy and pleasant. Long walk back into the main town. No outside sitting area.
We stayed overnight on our way home from holiday. Parking was easy, hotel clean with all expected facilities and breakfast was good.
This is a good hotel ideally located to visit the D-day beaches.
Excellent located with direct access and view to the beach. Spacious and safe garage. Breakfast OK. Friendly staff. A hairdryer in the room and some more towels (only 2 for 2 adults plus small child) would have been convenient, even if we stayed only for one night.
Convenient to visit the beach and Deauville
Good location, friendly atmosphere, rooms spacious and comfortable.
Staff, particularly the girls on reception, were really excellent and welcoming but the show was stolen by Pablo the Maitre de... Pillows
Good parking, comfortable bed, large room, efficient staff.
Our room was spacious and clean. The restaurant was very nice. The grounds were lovely.
An ideal place to recover from a long day of work
Nice, modern and comfortable hotel We had assumed the location was closer to Deauville, but it is out of town so not able to enjoy all that Deauvlle has to offer.
People very friendly and helpful even though we checked in at 1am n/a
Beautiful setting in the country, yet close to everything. Very quiet, good breakfast, enjoyed out stay. Bartender/waiters did not know anything about American drinks,
easy access to near by places of interest. no facility to make tea or coffee in the room.
Pleasant grounds Rolls Royce weekend - lounge/dining areas difficult to use due to large numbers.Used outside facilities as we wanted a quite evening meal. My husband was spoken to rather rudely by another guest when he realised we drive a mercedes & not a Rolls! We were at the hotel on holiday not to be insulted because of the car we drive. It did spoil things a little for us.
Central Hotel with nice clean rooms. Good space for a short stay in this area. The room we had was nice but for small children a sofa bed was adequate but took up all of the downstairs area. This meant an in-out arrangement if we wanted to spend time in our room. No drinks making facilities if we were inside our rooms.
Split level was interesting (lounge and facilities on first level and bed on second), bed was very comfortable, good location. Very friendly helpful bilingual staff. Lavatory did not have a wash basin (it was in a separate room)!
We booked a duplex room for a family of 5. The room was exactly as described - double bed upstairs plus single folding bed. Double sofa-bed downstairs. The hotel was beautifullt refurbished and in a convenient location - short walk to town and short drive to Deauville, Trouville, etc. Breakfast was offered at 12 euros per head - but there are two boulangeries across the road.
Charming building and rooms, great breakfast, helpful friendly staff. Good combination of style and efficiency. Very happy to recommend Only minor niggles - didn't have a cot available, bins too small if you have nappies to throw!
Very attractive room where a very good breakfast was served. Bedroom upstairs from toilet and bathroom. Car park surface unsuitable for motorcycles. Sitting area immediately outside window, frequently occupied by cleaning staff smoking.
Very pleasant experience on all counts. Internet access was gratuit. Parking was secure. property was quiet. Lobby charming. Staff spoke english well which was a huge relief on our first night in france afetr travelling for 24 straight hours.
We chose the hotel because we ha stayed there about 25 years ago on the return leg of a touring hoiliday.....we had called in just by chance and rooms were available............so we decideded to give it another try! The layout and the duplex rooms were fantastic.....very clean and fresh and incredible value......the staff were supurb........thanks very much. No..........but I think that it might be nice to have a fridge in lounge area.
Very clean and tidy. Very spacious room. Great restaurant.
Excellent room, modern facilities, all very clean and warm. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Towels were very small.
Upstairs rooms are duplex style with narrow staricase to sleeping area so could be a problem for some.
very small room, when opening the third bed impossible to get to the bathroom, very unfriendly staff, actually a B&B on the highway for a night's stop over. Maybe acceptable for business travellers
Excellent Value for money
Usual Campanile quality, style, value and helpfulness Hotel has an automated check-in system, which meant that guests were arriving right through the night. Woken at 01:15 with loud bangs and then suffered a constant arrival of people through to 03:30, the rattle of each diesel engine and flurry of slammed doors heralding yet another arrival. Not pleasant. This is a larger (3-storey) building and it's a terrible sound box, easily transmitting noises between rooms. If you want to hear people coming and (quite literally!) going all night, then stay here and enjoy the experience! Never again will we use this hotel, and we will avoid others that have an automated 24-hours check-in system (look for the green kiosk that looks like a cashpoint, next to the main entrance). This is a shame, as the rest of the hotel was good and the staff very helpful.
We stayed here because we had a car and did not want to have to negotiate the streets of the city and also find a place to park. It was in a perfect location for day trips to various spots in the countryside, which is what we did every day. It was very convenient to all the major roads of the region.
Convienient stopover useful to have restuarant on site food not too bad but not what you would get in local restuarant hotel next door considerably cheaper not much less standard. Staff could smile a little more
Breakfast and dinner were good value. The hotel turned out to be on the wrong side of Lisieux for the business my son and I had in Normandy (clearing a house we had sold). So we only stayed one night. It's not the kind of place I would have chosen in other circumstances (like a Travelodge with better food) but the above is the sole reason for moving on.
Clean.Good basic facilities.Quiet. Easy parking. Pleasant restaurant with good simple food.Good to use enroute.
Good overnight accomodation. More of a motel.
