Pros: Very friendly. Went out of their way to accommodate us. Very clean and lovely breakfast.
Pros: The hosts were great, and tried hard to accommodate everything we needed, despite the language barrier! The pool area was lovely. And the separate terrace in our room was an added bonus as we were able to sit outside and come & go through the separate entrance without walking through the house. I Would highly recommend this accommodation to others.

Pros: We stayed in la Menarderie one night travelling through France from the UK. We had a fantastic time, the historic house is beautifully restored. We stayed in the family suite that was very confortable for a family of 4. Set in a quite and wonderful rural landscape we felt very fortunate to spend a night in such a wonderful place.

With a stay at La Poule Verte in Archiac, you'll be in a shopping district, within a 15-minute drive of Les Antilles de Jonzac and Tonnellerie Allary.
Pros: In the centre of the village with parking space opposite the hotel. Nice, spacious rooms with a beautiful and clean bathroom on the hallway, privately for ourselves. Very nice breakfast. Everything is very clean and neat. Beautiful secluded garden with swimming pool. Very nice people that make you feel very wellcome. The surroundings are amazingly beautiful in the cognac region.
Cons: The bed is pretty short. For tall people make inquiries first for the sizes of the different beds.
Pros: The owners are very nice people and willing to give you the best time of your life. The rooms are large, clean and cosy. The breakfast is formidable!
Pros: Pauline and Harry were extremely hospitable and took the time to welcome us and have a chat and drink. Everything was spotlessly clean with beautiful crisp bedding. The pool was a great treat and lovely to have a swim before breakfast. Home made conserves to accompany the delicious French bread, cheese and fruit for our day off to a wonderful start. Really would recommend this chambre d’hote
Cons: No restaurant in the village however Harry advised us that one is opening soon which will be perfect. We did however have a wonderful meal at a nearby restaurant so really wasn’t an issue.
Located in Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire, le bon repos is within a 5-minute drive of St. Mathias Church and Barbezieux Castle. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Good room and bed, easy to find. Good food in restaurant in adjacent building.
Pros: Same as my previous stay, a few days earlier.
Cons: This second visit was on my return to UK. Did notice a slight scent of dog when tying my shoes. The hotel allows pets.
Cons: Not value for money at all. Only one tiny towel each. No toiletries, only small bar of soap. Room fittings were DIY. Looked more like a student hostel than a hotel. No air-con or fan so had to open window. No reception or security as the owner was running restaurant next door. Could not recommend this hotel.
Pros: Easy to find, ample parking, clean very helpful staff.
Cons: Not 24 hour reception, if arriving after 11pm be sure to call ahead. The staff were very accommodating even though I arrived at 1am without calling them ahead.
Pros: Easy to find off the A10. Friendly staff. Basic, Comfortable, quiet rooms. Great restaurant. Safe off road parking for cars. Garage available for motorbikes.
Pros: Great location for a nights stopover heading north or south through France to Spain. Excellent restaurant. Quiet, restful stop.
Cons: Nothing to dislike
Pros: I have tons of food allergies. The owners went all the way to customize my meals. I really appreciate that, I felt pampered!
Pros: Friendly staff . good adjacent restaurant. Proximity to N10.
Pros: The whole experience very pleasant . Staff so helpful food excellent easy parking on site and excellent location. Added to which we left something in our room and were contacted to see if we would like it posted on to us.will certainly use this hotel again.
Cons: Nothing at all.
A stay at La Boule d'Or places you in the heart of Barbezieux-Saint-Hilaire, steps from St. Mathias Church and 5 minutes by foot from Barbezieux Castle. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby and an elevator (lift). Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The staff were splendid. The bedroom large, comfortable, but a bit minimalist and it might have been nice to have better curtains. The code worked well for re-entering late; so no worries there. Good breakfast. Alas, we were only in Barbezieux for the international rugby match between French and zEnglish universities and so did not use it as abase.
Cons: See above: curtains in the bedroom. Did nothing to keep out the light. Fortunately, since we did not get back until 2.00, we slept through unworried!
Pros: Really friendly staff. The hotel is right in the centre of town. It has its own garage. The restaurant was pleasantly busy for a cold March Monday, very good menu, reasonably priced.
Pros: We have stayed at this Logis several times in the past as it is well located for a break on our route from Spain to the UK. Although we have always been impressed with the food, we always found the previous owner to be abrupt and frosty, to put it mildly. However, as soon as we walked into the hotel this year, we knew that something was different. The hotel now has two new owners and the difference is obvious straightaway! Not only have the rooms been redecorated, but the new owners are very warm and friendly and made us feel very welcome. We love the restaurant at the Boule d’Or; the food is superb and if you want to try some excellent French cooking without breaking the bank, this is the place to go. At this time of year, the restaurant tables are set up in the garden (see picture, below). There are a variety of set menus of three courses each (18, 27 and 35 euros) as well as an à la carte menu and a children’s menu for the under 12s. With specialities like oysters, magnet de canard as well as some imaginative starters and incredible desserts, there is something for everyone here. Wines are reasonably priced too! The rooms are fairly basic, but nicely decorated and super clean and the beds are really comfortable. We stayed in a family room, one double bed and two singles for 68 euros a night which was very good value. The buffet breakfast is well-priced at seven euros a head, with tea, hot chocolate or coffee, orange and apple juice, a delicious variety of breads, croissants and cakes along with a selection of jam, honey or marmalade. We met both owners, who took over the hotel just six months ago and judging by the full restaurant, we aren’t the only ones to appreciate the new injection of charm and energy!
Cons: We liked everything!
Located in Birac, Chambres d'hôtes La Cure du Maine Charles is in a rural location, within a 15-minute drive of Le Bain des Dames and St. Mathias Church. Featured amenities include a 24-hour front desk, multilingual staff, and laundry facilities. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: It’s a wonderful old building, full of charm. The location is very remote but works well for weddings at La Vue France.
Cons: It’s worth keeping in mind that the building and facilities are old. There are no ‘mod cons’. This is the charm of the place but may disappoint, if expecting / wanting / needing something newer and cleaner.
Pros: Beautiful old house with a friendly family
Pros: The hotel was lovely so quant and old fashioned but beautiful full of history and French themed.
Pros: Traditional French feel to the property. Family run, definitely a one off.
Cons: Limited facilities nearby e.g. restaurants which isn't really the fault of the owners.
Pros: Very old and interesting house. Lovely people running it but in need of some home comforts. Everything was a little basic and breakfast was minimal...bread and jam ! Very different from other places that we have stayed in in France and difficult to criticise the charming young Italian who runs it however there are one or two basic requirements of a b an b that need to be addressed. I would still return and hope that Lucca takes this review as helpful rather than over critical
Cons: Breakfast poor Nowhere to put anything in the room, No locks on doors
Pros: The charm of a very old but well maintained substantial property.Steeped in history.
Cons: Limited availability of restaurants in the area.
Pros: Lovely country hotel with rural charm and friendly owners on a wonderful location in the middle of vineyards producing grapes for a delicious bio cognac
Located in Jarnac-Champagne, Hôtel Le Relais de Jarnac Champagne is in the historical district, within a 15-minute drive of Tonnellerie Allary and Le Château des Énigmes. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Situated near a lovely wood which was great to walk the dog. The pool looked nice although it was too late to use when we arrived, nice crisp white sheets.
Cons: We arrived at 8.00pm and the restaurant was closed so we couldn't eat and no snacks were available - it would have been nice if even a little sandwich was on offer after our long drive. We were told that we had arrived too late to find anything open nearby. The restaurant had to be booked in advance and the bar was closed too so that was all very disappointing.
Pros: Location was fine, in the middle of village, with good bar/restaurant opposite. Breakfast was adequate, but no staff in attendance
Cons: No staff actually on site
Pros: Fantastic. Excellent. Exceptional. Clean, lovely staff. Excellent food
Pros: A really good hotel with a friendly and helpful proprietor.
Pros: Beautiful village location. Very friendly owners. Great value. Stored my motorcycle in their garage! Great bar with fab food across road. It does not get any better than this. Superb, thank you!

Pros: Clean and tidy. Quiet
Cons: Surly male staff. Females were professional
Pros: A nice evening meal with excellent wine from the tap and a comfortable mattress. The shower had good pressure with lot's of hot water and it was very quiet.
Cons: I was disappointed with breakfast even though it was adequate with the best coffee of the trip, fruit juice, a super croissant and fresh french bread and jam. But the night before's buffet was so good that I expected more.
Pros: Restaurant on site
Cons: Huge lorry stop, very small basic rooms.
Pros: We had a basic but clean room. The bed was comfortable. As we stayed Saturday night there was no noise from the trucks.

Pros: Truck stop in France if it is not good they go out of business
Pros: Does what it says on the tin and shower was amazing!
Pros: Was ill so missed breakfast
Cons: People cooking and having parties in the lorry park
Pros: The food was excellent the room was cold and basic.

Pros: The character of the former mill with surrounding garden convenient location to explore Cognac area.
Cons: Too much noise during the night from passing traffic and from early hours from the staff quarters above iur room.Wines were expensive for not particularly good quality.
Pros: Restaurant, however, was excellent, you wouldn't think it could be the same business.
Cons: The room and general condition of the hotel was extremely poor, decor was well beyond repair - shower room had three different layers of wallpaper all falling off. You wouldn't think you could open the doors to the public
