It was very enjoyable
We loved the romance of the whole hotel, it didn't feel like a hotel. The staff were delightful, there was a little dog there (not sure if he belonged to the owners or another guest) but I miss our dog in Australia, so I appreciated being able to rub his belly. We were here for our honeymoon and had hired a car to see the Tapestry and the landing beaches. Also loads of restaurants and cafes in the town. The Swans and the Ducks swimming in the pond and under the little bridge were devine. The bath tub was deep - there is a shower head, but better off just soaking in the tub. Very clean, and nice facilities. We also booked during off season and got a great deal! After booking I found it was the 'top pick' in my Loney Planet guide to France We did comment to each other that we were pleased to have hired a car to make it easy to pop out for dinner, so would suggest others did the same or investigated alternative transport prior to booking
very hard to find, they need to illuminate their signs at night since they are off on a small side road
the setting we had 3 in a room which was a bit cramped and the extra bed was set up incorrectly and very uncomfortable, extra towels for the 3rd person were not supplied.
Nice and clean room. The nature around the hotel is beautiful with swans in the lake in front of it. Big bathroom. The room was very cold during the night. Not walking distance to Bayeux
The building and grounds. Not too many guests. No resaurant, so we could not find a good excuse to enjoy the building for the evening. The interior of the room was not so good. More like a B&B in the Yorkshire with a tiny television in a huge room and a 30 year old fridge that rattled and splurted all night until I unplugged it.
The surroundings and buildings are beautiful. The staff was nice and the rooms were clean. We stayed in a family room in the converted carriage house or riding stables. The room was two levels which was unique and we felt like we were in a townhouse vs. a hotel room. We would stay here again. We coudln't get the free wifi to work, even after talking to the staff and getting the correct password. The room we stayed in had two levels, lots of stairs and the bathroom set up was awkward. Downstairs is a toilet and sink. Upstairs a shower and two sinks, but no toilet. It wasn't such a big problem that it would stop us from staying here again.
THe location is amazing! 2 mins from centre of Bayeux and perfect spot to explore the D Day landings. THe deal we got from booking.com was almost half then if you went direct with hotel. The seetiing is divine - very countryfied with a lake and swans and ducs and enclosed with tress and manicured lawns. We really enjoyed our stay here. The nest bit was sitting next to the large firplace on sofa drinking delicious red wine!
A delightful and peaceful setting with friendly and helpful staff. You feel like you are deep in the countryside but are in fact in walking distance of all Bayeux's attractions and facilities. The spaceous and modern accommodation for a family of 4 was exactly what we wanted. Parking right outside our room. Breakfast seemed a little expensive. The WiFi was free but a very weak signal, at least in the Annex where we were.
We used the room as a base for travelling. It was clean, plenty of hot water and in pretty surroundings. Also it was a lot nearer to the old town and restaurants than anticipated. The breakfast was over priced - cheaper to go into town and eat. The room was basic but ok to use as a base. Over-priced for what it was.
very friendly staff, spacous, great view
The woman running the hotel was very lovely, but spoke NO english, which made it a bit difficult, but with hand gestures and a lot of nods she made us dinner reservations at a great restaurant. It was very convienient to where we were going. The continental breakfast was fantastic and although it typically starts at 8am, she had it ready for us at 7:30 because we had an early departure; very much appreciated! Our bathtub/shower did not have a shower curtain?!
Hotel staff were very helpful.
Perfectly placed, near the town centre, but also in a quiet location with no disturbance at all during the night. The owners are fantastic and go out of their way to make you feel welcome at all times. Their suggestion for a resturant to enjoy dinner was outstanding and less than a 5 min walk from the hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, and would return again myself if the opportunity arose. Also, car parking was the most secure arrangement I have ever encountered, 100% safe.
We visited the Normandy beaches and stayed at Le Bayeux two nights. The staff was very accommodating and the breakfast was wonderful. I would highly recommend people visiting this beautiful town and region, staying at the Le Bayeux.
Location was outstanding. Easy walking distance to many great restaurants and beautiful sites. Cerainly extremely appreciative of the D-Day Sacrifices and the hotel staff was incredible. My rooms Shower stall was a little tight for me. I am 6' 2" - 210
Very quaint and comfortable. Good location to city sights but not so close as to be busy
We arrived a day early and we were able to stay for that night as well in the same room. Very friendly staff and good value for money. Room was huge - reminded me some what of a school dormitory! Bathroom had a strange odour.
The location was central to the attractions of Bayeux -- the Cathedral, the Bayeux Tapestry, the restaurants. Our family room, #1, was adjacent to the lobby and very noisy as guests came and went.
Loved the location near the D-day beaches; very comfortable beds Hard pillows gave me a headache.
The rooms were clean and very functional and also surprisingly soundproofed considering they are in blocks. Booking in was fast and efficient. We were very disappointed with the main courses of our dinner and also with the service the staff gave. It felt as though we were in a fast-food restaurant being rushed through everything, not a very common experience in France. The food we felt was not at its best (probably microwaved fast freeze products).
the room was very clean and large. It was nice to have hot tea & instant coffee in the room. The staff were very accomodating and helpful. We were given only 1 bath towel (for 2 people!), but of course, did not realize this until the next morning.
Price Clean Room size...very small
Reasonably priced and close to the center of town The walls are very thin so you can hear everything next door
Warm, clean room with good size bathroom. Easy walk to the city and easy to find. Tea and coffee making in the room. Lovely view from the room to the cathedral.
Very close to all venues at Bayeux No need to drive
friendly staff the food!
Good location and really helpful staff. Breakfast really good. Showers great. Staff arranged for rooms at front of Hotel for security of our motorcycles, although the area is secure. Area is really quiet, so a good nights rest guaranteed. Short walk in to town, where there are many restaurants, although some are very busy, so don't leave it too late.Ten minute walk to the Battle of Normandy museum, and British cemetery, these are a must see. Bayeux is a pretty town with lots to see, and is central if you are visiting the D-Day sites, as we were.
The hotel was very clean; the rooms are small, but have everything you need. Sheets are crisp, bed is very comfortable. The front desk people were great - gave us good directions to the tourist sites, and spoke excellent English. This is not a fancy hotel, but if you are looking for a clean place to sleep, easy walking distance to Bayeux, at an excellent price, you can't go wrong.
The convenience to the Normandy Day Landing Sites and the easy access to Normandy in general
A real pleasure. Excellent discovery
This is a very peaceful, quiet country inn, with gardens of very exotic plant life. A visitor should bring a botanical guide to fully appreciate the gardens.
Very nice location, good quality room, nice ambience. Price of the room is at the high end, price of the food/drinks is over the top.
Facilities, service, location, garden Long and expensive dinner
Godd overall quality of hotel and facilities and very good value and high quality restaurant offering . Overpriced for what it offers in terms of 1) Room allocated was not part of main house - - this should be disclosed on booking 2) Location 3) Bar prices are at London/New York 5 Star Levels .
Everthing is doen to ensure you have the best stay possible
Very good staff, nice restaurant, nice pool, had bikes for loan. Room was very, very small. Price was expensive for the quality of accommodation.
The staff were polite and made our stay enjoyable. The setting is rural and peaceful. Need to have bicycles for children rather than adults.
The location was good, the food was well presented and our room was clean and tidy, the facilities were also good thought the price was a little on the high side
the town mattresses were lumpy. carpets were mangy.
good clean and comfortable with good access to local historic interests.Helpful friendly staff. Free parking which is always a bonus and good value for money. What I have come to expect from Novotel and accor in general.
Reception good. Dinner poor, due to cold food and lack of condiments. Car parking good.
Convenient location with free parking, comfortable bed (important), good restaurant No clock in the room
Comfortable bed mattress. Good restaurant. In room kettle & mini fridge (for fresh milk). Would have used pool, if not a cold wet June. Duvet too thick for summer - even with A/C, not enough oblong pillows. Square pillows are uncomfortable.
Hotel grounds and Location were Fantastic. Standard of Bathroom varied between rooms
nice clean room ,comfortable bed, staff helpfull ,sky news bar was a bit of a joke
Frieindliness and courtesy of staff.
Friendly staff, choice of food
The helpfulness of the hotel staff. My husband is in a wheelchair most ot the time and they could not have done more to assist us. We were disappointed by the quality of the food. The menu was rather restricted and was unchanged during our visit. One does expect more by way of excellence when it comes to food in France!
Great localization, good restaurant, nice golf course. The hotel must urgently provide ramps to reach the rooms...was very hard climb the steps with our heavy luggages.
The staff was friendly and the hotel was comfortable. The rooms were a bit too small.
Excellent restaurant and breakfast facilities, attentive and helpful staff
The hotel was modern and welll equipped, the bedding was comfortable and in general the room and facilities were very clean, tidy and quiet. As an American I found the room to be a bit small, especially the bathroom - where the unfortunate placement of a heater made it impossible to sit comfortably on the toilet - but by the standards of the other rooms we had in other hotels on the trip it was reasonably sized. The staff spoke English well, check-in/check-out went quickly and without delay. The restaurant was pleasant, the staff attentive and smooth, the food excellent and the wine superb. As a novice 'overseas' driver I appreciated the excellent signage to the hotel - once we entered Port-en-Bessin the signs led us straight to the hotel. Be aware that the hotel does not have a elevator. If this is an issue make sure to note that you will need a room on the ground floor. My wife requested an iron several times but it never appeared.
Ease of check in, excellent breakfast selections.
Service was great, and access to parking was very good The room was very outdated and worn - smelled stale. For the price (over 100 Euro/night) I expected better.
The welcome and advice from the on arrival was excellent. The room though small was very comfortable. I could not access the internet in the lounge. The Receptionist was far from helpful - she did not want to know. This despit the fact that I needed to connect to confirm ferry times.
The Hotel is based directly on the Golf. The Photos doesnt fit to the real rooms, they are more simple.
spacious grounds we were placed in two separate buildings even though we have younger children.
A nice location and good facility, access to swimming pool and free parking and internet..
Lovely, interesting position right on the fishing harbour and a short walk into the village with plenty of eating places in season though a bit limited out of season. Very clean and modern. Good parking, easy to find. Friendly staff. Air conditioning too noisy, kept me awake at night. We didn't appreciate being woken up at 03.00 am for a false fire alarm, (due we were led to believe to the smoke caused by a member of the night staff burning his supper) and being requested to present ourselves down in the foyer un- nessessarily.
Location close to D-Day memorials, restaurants. The weather.
freindly staff, all staff spoke good English .Parking was good& a nice Breakfast The only negative was no evening meals at the hotel.but plenty of restraunts near by.
We liked the area close to the D-day beaches which we went to see. We were surprised to find there was no restaurant in the hotel.
Location was great. Facility in apparently new and in very good condition. Rooms are spartan, but met our needs. Breakfast was very good. Staff was excellent upon arrival and at departure.
We were welcomed by a happy smiling receptionist who could speak very good english, but was polite enough to put up with my poor french until I came unstuck and she intervened in the nick of time. The hotel had a modern feel with modern decoration which one would not find out of place in a 4 star hotel. The rooms were spacious and clean, again tastefuly decorated and the bathroom shower had a quirky ships cabin design. The breakfast buffet was very good value for money, and the staff in the dining room were polite and friendly. If I were to visit Normandie in the future I would have no qualms about staying in this hotel and would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone. There was no coffee or tea making facilities, and it would have been nice to have had a sauna or steam room.
Very nice property and staff Nothing
room layout was spacious. No
Elegant and conveniently located. Professional staff. Room very luxurious with lovely view. No
Outstanding hotel with exceptional service. Our room was beautifully furnished and overlooked the cathedral and a nice park/river. Centrally located within Bayeux, and an easy walk to shops, restaurants, and the Bayeux tapestry. The owner.
This very charming, well appointed hotel included not only helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly staff but also a workout room, secure fre parking on site, a spacious comfortable twin room with large bathroom providing plenty of counter space. Comfortable It was a little difficult to find even though it was I a superb village location. Watch for signs for the Hotel Churchill. Villa Lara is right next door.
The evening meal was very expensive and although it was O.k it did not warrant the price No lift this should be pointed out at time of booking, for the elderly it is impossible to get to rooms on the third floor
Sophie at reception was welcoming and personable. During our stay, the bar was unavailable due to private parties. This was disappointing as the bar with its large fireplace and frames photos of past celebrities lends this public area considerable charm and ambiance. Also, the breakfast buffet was really just a continenetal breakfast. The egg boiler did not work. The menu in general needs updating.
Great hotel with a sense of history. Great service, great location, very clean rooms, great service.
Beautiful building in a pleasant courtyard setting. The location is excellent for visiting the town with on site parking. Good buffet breakfast. The hotel is faded and desperately requires modernisation. A single, discoloured, plastic, plant in each window box defines the standard. The display of celebrities, who have stayed in the past, demonstrates the fall from grace.
Dining room very good No lift and limited baggage assistance
Staff was friendly and accomodating, and the room was clean. Restaurant on site and easy to walk around town without having an auto. The rooms and beds are small.
The staff were friendly and helpful and the hotel is ideally located for exploring central Normandie by car, and the town of Bayeux on foot. Hotel is tired and not quite up to scratch for the price. "free wi-fi internet", but only in small area by reception desk, does not reach bedrooms. tv is billed as having 15 channels, but only 4 in my room. Very limited supply of hot water. Not enough for a shower. As long as you're used to the quirks of small French hotels it's ok. Not sure what North Americans visiting for the first time would think.
The hotel represented absolutely superb value for money - The staff were pleasant, the rooms were immaculately clean with mini-bars, LCD TVs and the most comfortable bed I've found in a hotel in a long time (and I travel all over the world on business). The bathroom decor was a little dated but more than compensated for by the cleanliness and the quality of the shower. The bar which was bedecked with signed photos of everyone from Prince Charles, Eisenhower, Montgomery and Stirling Moss to Tom Hanks, Lauren Bacall, John Wayne and Spencer Tracey who all stayed at the hotel was excellent and the restaurant was also very, very nice with extremely good, attentive service, akin to a quality London or Parisien restaurant. I cannot fault the hotel at all.
We enjoyed the wonderful experience of the hotel and great food....So close to the battle fields.....
location, history of the hotel for the price, a breakfast should be included. nice bar area but no one at the bar to serve you.
The staff was wonderful. Friendly and helpful. The room was a good size, cleans and tastefully decorated. The bathroom was also a good size.
The price, location and the hotel being very clean, also being able to have a breakfast in the hotel is a plus.
Easy check in, very clean
Ease of free car parking. Convenient to local area. Frequently the electronic key failed to open hotel door and/or the room door which in turn created unnecessary stress when reception wasn't manned.
Quiet location - short walk to excellent restaurant Faulty toilet was not dealt with sympathetically
close to wwII sites.
Room was clean and tidy. No Tea or Coffee making facilities in room. Bathroom was small and diificult to use shower.
As above! Breakfast is very simulary. There at least should be some cheese, baccon and/or ham or an egg. Every morning, there was only some marmalade or honey. It's even better to pay a little bit more, than this! The evening meals in are not from a high quality! Next time we still want to stay in this hotel, but we're gonna have breakfast and have our meal somewere else.
The staff was very helpful and the location worked very well for us. It was a great value and I would recommend it to others. Nothing
The staff was exceptionally helpful! None---just wish there was an elevator
Lovely garden and delightful decor in the breakfast rooms. Friendly staff Why no no shower curtain water goes on floor creating a huge puddle of water and making floor very slippery and potentially dangerous also no grab handles for getting in and out of bath
we were welcomed warmly & they were accommadating with all of our reguests ie booking taxis , booking resturants ect. It was also very convient to town which meant we didnt need to walk far. nothing bad to say.
We liked the location, the staff, the cleanliness and the service. The hotel was located in the center of Normandy and was a great location for touring the area. The staff were very nice and many of them spoke English. The hotel was clean and well kept. The service was excellent. The price was reasonable for a hotel of this size and quality. I would recommend the Hotel d'Argouges as a place to stay. Nothing.
Came in at 13:00 and would not let us check in,,,very upsetting. Breakfast was ok for the money.
Excellent location , a historic building with interesting internal and extrenal features. Good Buffet breakfast Overpriced, Charging for car park.
Great hotel wih beautiful garden & surroundings, great central location
A very attractive building with a lovely breakfast area and the staff were very helpful in booking another hotel for the next city on our trip.
Very central and within easy walking distance of the town. The shower in the bathroom was useless.
The staff was delightful and helpful.
convenience to the centre of bayeux and all its attractions The rooms on the top floor under the roof had very limited headroom and were claustrophobic, especialy as the two of us are tall
24hr restaurant, very near to the parking, tapestry etc Room not as good as it looks on the net, tight. No elevator (3 floors). Wifi did not work.
Very nice hotel, price was what attracted me but once there I appreciated the resturant hours, we could eat when we were hungry.
Room was nice and clean - staff understood English and was courteous & attentive - adjoining indoor/outdoor restaurant was convenient - cost was very affordable. Would definitely frequent again Street parking is metered during the day (0900-1900) with 2 hour maximums - free public parking is located quite a distance away but was filled to capacity
The hotel is in an excellent location, near D-Day tour departure points, The cathedral and the Bayeux Tapestry. Excellent service.
Very centrally situated One of the bedrooms had a defective light & the kitchen outlet fan smells came into the room. However, a change of rooms was promptly organised.
Excellent hotel in central Bayeux. Very good staff, good restaurant. Sink in one of the rooms had no plug and the water would only run if you held in a button
Hotel clean, great location, and fair price. Staff was good too. Room was just fair. a bit rundown- no elevator
Stayed three nights, very pleased with our holiday vacation at the Hotel Reine Mathilde. The room is very clean and comfortable. The restaurant has good food and excellent breakfast. The hotel staff is very helpful and friendly. I would definately stay here again in the future, it is an excellent hotel, the best one we stayed in during our vacation. None.
The convenience to all the places of interest that we were interested in, ie normandy landings etc
It's location and it's breakfast - super
Very friendly and helpful staff. Location was superb.
Friendliness of staff, centre of town, easy parking, fair price, excellent ambience & decorations all good.
The cheerful and helpful staff. Needs some updating (carpets).
Staff spoke excellent English and were extremely helpful and accommodating. Hotel is located in the centre of Bayeaux therefore convenient for shopping, restaurants and local places of interest. Although in the centre the location is very quiet. No road runs past the hotel. Has excellent local free public parking which is right next to the hotel which makes the carrying of bags and suitcases easy. The hotel did not serve an evening meal.
Charming & quaint. No elevators but staff personally carried our bags up to 3rd floor. Everyone friendly & helpful. Booking was a breeze. Located right on the main street in the heart of everything in the village. Woke up to the amazing weekly street market in progress right in front of the hotel. Flowers, vegetables, breads, cheeses, meats, fish, crafts, even a magician with magic tricks for the young ones. Best of all (which we didn't know) we could have walked to the hotel from the train station! Had we known, we'd not have had to wait at the station 25 minutes for a five minute cab ride!!!! So for those with rolling cases, be advised you can stroll to the Churchill on your own in only a few minutes. Loved this place. Near to everything & the hop on, hop off train is within a few minutes walk to see the whole village.
Free Wi-fi Expensive breakfast
We were 3 ladies traveling thoughout Normandy. We had rented a car and were driving from town to town. I found Hotel Churchill on Fodors.com on the France forum . I am so glad we booked there. Everything was wonderful - especially the staff. Danielle - worked the night shift and was so incredible helpful and friendly - as were all the other staff - he just happened to be the one we saw the most. He went out of his way to help us with changing a booking for another hotel and to check on getting gas for our car - which there was a shortage of while we were traveling. We just want him to know how much we appreciated him.. The lady in the gift shop was also wonderful. Thank you for a great stay!!!!
location - friendliness and helpfulness of staff - historic decorations
The location of the Churchill hotel was excellent for our touring of Normandy. The staff was great, always friendly and helpful.
Friendly helpful welcoming staff, convenient location, clean comfortable hotel, nice breakfast, interesting photos of d Day and liberation Being in the middle of the old town, some noise did echo through the passage way in the evening occasionally.
Very romantic setting and beautiful antiques with old Parisian charm. Enjoyed our hostess and her daughter very much. Used a lot of sign language as we speak very little French. Price for only rolls and coffee are high. Room needs re-wallpapering, carpeting but is very charming. Grounds need sprucing up a bit.
Very pleased with room - spacious. Attractive, pleasant staff. Initial reception - had to pay before taking room because clerk not there next day.
We were the only people in the hotel for 3 out of 4 days including no staff - . Breakfast was 8.30 which is quite late. Continuous every 2 minutes toilet cistern noise. Insistment by manager on us staying or paying for an extra night even though we gave her staff the required 48 hours notice. Poor value unfortunately.
The woman at the check in desk was rude and not helpful. The hotel was great.
The location and the surrounding villages were AMAZING. The staff was very helpful and the friendliest we came across on our trip. I would highly recommend this location. We stayed out of season due to a family members wedding timeframe. $80 plus a night was a little high for that time of year with only a grocery store open two villages to the north.
Concept good, maybe best in the Summertime. It´s a beautiful aerea, and a lot to see. It was too cold in the hotelroom to be able to get the clothes dried (2.-5.9.) when washing. I thought the Hotel was close to Omaha Beach (looking at Google Earth). My suggestion: Bicycles would have been a good Idea to see the local aerea.
The location right next to Colleville American cemetary is perfect. Right in the middle of all the historical Normandy battle sights. The WiFi was only available in the Hotel bar which seemed to open in the evenings sparatically. It was only available after typing a 35 number PIN (not kidding) into your computer which I think is silly. There is no else around that hotel to steal bandwidth.
The hotel is a dream. Staff are excellent, the room was beautifull and the food an experience not to be missed. Spa facilities are great. We have stayed in a number of similar hotels in France, this is the best by a mile.
The location was wonderful. The hotel and grounds were beautiful.
I have eaten a dinner. But from a objective point of my experience, its quality was very bad and restaurant staff's services was bad, too.
We enjoyed the ambiance and the staff were all very helpful. Thank you for a delightful stay.
Beautiful building and the landscaping was very pretty - friendly staff and very helpful. Loved the location. Winding staircase - some cobwebs in bathroom and bedroom. Breakfast certainly not worth the price. I wonder also who stays in the very nice rooms that are displayed in your brochure, it wasn't us.
Outstanding staff and restaurant. Beautiful French chateau located close to Normandy invasion beach and battle sites. From arrival to departure the chateau staff was very pleasant and extremely helpful. No, everything was great.
Delicious dinner, very nice room, friendly staff.
The food was fantastic! Two of the best meals in my life! The wait staff were welcoming to those of us with limited linguistic skills in French, The hotel staff were very helpful. The grounds were beautiful. Idyllic setting. The beds might have been less lumpy.
The facility is beautiful everything one would imagine for a Country side Chateau, the people were great and the food and wine were expensive but worth every cent. I would easily stay there again. I can't think of anything, the location was excellent
