Pros: A lovely Olde world feel.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast was delicious, exceeded my expectations.. Cosy fireplace,,,
Cons: Standing shower would b easier, although I enjoyed the bath.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were phenomenal, food was amazing and great that you provide dinner as well (was SUCH a lifesave on my first night there). Room size is great, the little postcard on the bed is SUCH a nice touch - really lovely
Cons: The only 2 complaints that I have are 1. RE the fireplace - SUCH an amazing touch, and since it was freezing, I was very excited about this. Had a great experience with the fire on the first night, however on the 2nd day 1. They didn't provide all the materials to start the fire again (additional flint, newspaper etc) 2. The chimney was obviously blocked, so when I came out the bathroom after a shower, the room was THICK with smoke (i was on my way to a wedding, so landed up smelling like a woodfire and my clothers & hair smelled the day after as well) The result was also that that room was fereeeezing that night, because the teeny oil heater provided in the room, while a great touch) is definitely not enough to heat the huge room (room size was phenomenal, waking up from cold in the night was not so much) 2. I was informed that the house locked up at night so was told that I could use the remote on my keys would grant me access to the property after hours (as mentioned earlier, i was at a wedding that evening). I got back around 11 and to my dismay the remote didn't work. I tried multiple times to call the 2 numbers on the key chains and even tried hooting once or twice (I didn't want to be excessive for fear of waking the other residents). Thank GOODNESS some of the wedding party were also staying in the cottages and after about 25 mins of being stuck on the road, i managed to get a hold of someone who provided me with a code to get in to the gate. I was seriously worried i would have to drive down to howick to find somewhere to stay or sleep in my car. So that was really not great. Very apologetic at reception the next day, but it might be an idea to test your remotes before handing them out, or provide your guests with the gate code or emergency number in case something like this happens again.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The suite had a stunning view over the valley and an extra comfy bed. Sadly we could not get the fire started - no kindling and wood not completely dry. The coffee tray was a big disappointment - lots of coffee, tea and even hot chocolate - but only two sachets of milk and no rusks
Cons: Some of the little - but important - things like really inadequate, poorly placed plug points and adapters and too small towels ...

Exceptionally friendly and professional service, great attention to detail and well equipped rooms - complete with a kettle, cold water jug, coffee, tea, biscuits, sweets, heaters and even flowers. Beautiful traditional decor and a cosy homely feel. Excellent food at the bistro, fantastic breakfast. The well-kept gardens and gorgeous views from the hill tops close-by add even more value. Would love to come back.

The location is perfect lots to do around the area if you wanted to. the rooms were beautiful, spacious and fully equipped, every unit has its own fire place with we loved.
Cons: We loved everything, except that the pool was a bit cold, I blame winter for that lol, but if I could ask for anything, it would be a heated pool :-)

Howick is within 15 minutes' drive.
5.0 Okay
Pros: The fresh flowers in the room were lovely... but that's about it.
Cons: The bed is old and I could feel the springs by the second night. The furniture is very uncomfortable, maybe consider a couch instead of the wooden benches with cushions. The big disappointment was not being informed of much needed renovations going on. I never would have booked if I was told this. We are on holiday and so expect peace and quiet. We didn't complete our stay and found somewhere more suitable for the remainder of our holiday. Also the manager didn't seem to know the area well enough, we asked for recommendations on things to do and restaurants to visit and he could not help. A clearer pathway to the room would be nice. Maybe some pebbles and lighting for night time? Walking through wet long grass was not pleasant and coming in after dinner in the dark was not fun!
9.5 Excellent

Cons: Shower wasn't great. Wasn't really a shower, just a bath with a hand held.
8.0 Excellent

Cons: Nothing to complain about, really!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: It's peaceful and well kept. Victor is the sweet man who welcomed us with a smile, assisted with everything and made sure our stay was perfect.
Cons: We didn't have a microwave in our house so it was bit difficult as the place was cold.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Loved the history of the building. Enjoyed visiting the graveyard next door. Very convenient location in the heart of the meander. Very comfy, large bed with warm duvet. Victor was very helpful.
Cons: The couch was extremely uncomfortable and the fireplace didn’t draw the smoke properly - we had to open a window. Could’ve done with plumper pillows.

Cons: No suggestions.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Not our first stay nor our last.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Good central location for visiting the Midlands meander. The chalet is cozy, spacious, and well-equipped with essentials. Value for money accommodation.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Location, staff and atmosphere was fantastic.
Cons: The bathroom facility in our units were not adequate. These days a shower unit is a must have. And when a shower unit is available, it must function well.
6.3 Good
Pros: Location and grounds
Cons: Cottage was very cold and globes in lamps did not work Only one bathroom with bath definitely needs to be updated.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The river is beautiful. There is a pool which many midlands places don't have. Friendly staff. The rooms are very charming, and old worldly. The kitchen was well stocked and fully functional.
Cons: The queen size bed (cottage 1) is in need of replacement.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Stunning location, beautiful surroundings, lovely historic buildings!
Cons: Wifi connectivity could improve
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We booked the entire charming manor house. It offers an ideal setting for family and friends who like some personal privacy but are keen on spending time together. The beds are really comfortable. We loved the spacious rooms and fireplaces. The area offers a lot with a cool mix of activities, nice restourants and country living.
Cons: Very poor WiFi signal. The cellular signal is also bad. It is okay to argue againt connectivity when in a wonderful place like the Midlands but the kids will most likely drive you a bit crazy. The accommodation is not cheap. Little extras like fire lighters, milk, more tea towels etc will go a long way as there are no supermarkets close by. The noisy floors and shared living areas are not ideal when just booking a single room in the manor house.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The tranquility and the fact that you don't even see your nearest neighbour, so very private.
Cons: We went to the restaurant, which I know is not connected to the accomodation but we didn't feel like driving anywhere and the option was given to us. My rump steak of R155 was tough as old boots and full of gristle. Good on the manager for not charging me but it put a bad spin on wanting to eat there again. I feel perhaps the chef needs to be able tell a bad steak full of gristle from a good one.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: This was the best place ver. We enjoyed the sounds of water from the waterfall. The cleaning of our room was always diligent and it is a very safe space. Very homely!
Cons: Nothing!! Except consider putting wifi boosters in the rooms

5.0 Okay
Pros: the venue is a very beautiful farm. it was quiet and had wonderful birds. The owner mike was very charming and helpful. I feel sorry to have to submit such a bad review.
Cons: It was the dirtiest most delapidated place i have ever had the misfortune to stay in, the bed was previously slept in, it had marks on the sheets and hairs on the pillow. the rooms smelled musty, there were plants growing through the windows and there were spiders and dust everywhere. We battled to sleep with the stale smell and the fear of spiders crawling on us (one actually did) we couldn't wait to leave. it needs to be closed down and revamped and given a major spring clean
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Mike's place is wonderful! Clean, friendly and very comfortable. Mike is a fantastic host always wanting to assist in any way. This accommodation really feels like home away from home and highly recommended for anyone wanting accommodation in the beautiful Balgowan valley.p
