10.0 Excellent
Pros: Biggest surprise of the whole vacation. We just booked something along the way and didn't even look at pictures or anything else prior to our arrival. The road turned smaller and smaller and in the middle of nowhere we arrived at the Kilchrenan Inn. An older looking building with a nice seating area in the front. We walked into a very nice restaurant and bar area and were greeted promptly and very friendly and brought to our room right away. Everything brand new renovated, very spacious, clean and cozy with a perfectly done bathroom and everything you need plus more. I want to mention the coffee machine as well as the water kettle with integrated filter - both of them are very rare finds in accommodations in Great Britain. The WLAN is a bit difficult but sufficient to stream some movies. I believe it works better when you complete the registration process but we just spent one night, so we didn't follow up on this. There was no TV in the room - not that we would have needed it, but we noticed it. We spend the evening at the bar and enjoyed the time there and were really disappointed that we just booked one night and already had a follow up hotel booked. We definitely would have stayed much longer if we could have. As the Inn is still pretty new we are wishing all the best for the future. If we are back in the area one day we will come back for sure.

Pros: No frills. Clean and functional. Nice balcony for alfresco dining looking down towards Loch Awe.
Cons: No leisure facilities at the hotel.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Perfect accommodations in a very remote area
Cons: If you don’t want to eat there, other options are not necessarily nearby but food was very good.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Great restaurant attached. Rooms were very modern with a lovely outlook to the Loch. Considered parking for the accommodation areas given the property is on a hillside - direct access to the rooms if needed.
Cons: Nothing really - we loved our stay. Some people might find the entry on a shared deck not private enough but we were fine with it - more space if we wanted to use it and say hi to neighbours!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything, food very good, staff excellent, they couldn't do enough for us and good knowledge of the local area, we also had a very comfortable clean room.
Cons: We loved it all.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location, good food, brand new self-catering lodges with balcony overlooking the loch. A great find.
Cons: Wifi didn't seem to work in the lodges. Menu a little restricted if you were staying several nights, but for a short stay it was great
7.0 Good
Pros: The shower was superb. The scenery around fantastic and food in the attached Inn was superb. The place was well equipped; just not for 4 people.
Cons: The apartment is advertised for up to 4 adults but it was kitted out for 2; there were only 2 seats at the table and 2 seats on the decking. The sofa bed, which you have to use if more than 2 people, is very uncomfortable and in the front room where the traffic from the road is very loud. We were only given 3 towels and despite mentioning a couple of times a 4th never appeared.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast (especially cooked) was very nice.
Cons: We stayed in a disabled room and the bathroom was not so good
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Nice location. Friendly staff. Room was fine.
Cons: Overall quite clean, but mirrors were not clean. A small thing, but very visible. No tea towels in kitchen.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Stunning location - Boat Shed we were lucky to be there overlooking the loch and the mountains Helpful friendly staff pleasant but not over familiar Delicious food especially the venison at dinner
Cons: Short staff for dinner made it very slow which spoilt the evening a little as we were tired from travelling Maintenance of the Boat shed bathroom and windows needed
9.3 Excellent
Pros: It took me a long time to complete this review because I couldn't decide whether the disappointment that I paid extra for a Loch View room where I could barely see the Loch outweighed the overall experience of staying at the hotel at all. Overall I guess it was a positive experience as everything else was top notch. I enjoyed being able to play the piano in the drawing room (I'm a trained pianist) and the piano was well tuned and maintained. The drawing room overlooked the Loch beautifully.
Cons: I was very disappointed by the Loch View. Yes, there's no doubt that a tiny corner of the Loch was visible from one of my windows, but it wasn't really a Loch "View". Having paid extra for the View - this was the only disappointing thing.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place beautiful lovely helpful staff
Cons: A little run down
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful location. Great bedroom with superb view over the Loch. Excellent dinner and breakfast. Also lovely pub at the end of the road - great food and beer
Cons: Plumbing was a bit old - but so's the hotel so not too unexpected

Pros: I enjoyed walking around the property, the location is just stunning.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic restaurant, house and staff
7.0 Good
Pros: Quite possibly the most beautiful hotel in the most beautiful location I have ever seen. It really is idyllic. Filled with sumptuous antique pieces and elegant decor, the staff effortlessly made us feel at home and as if nothing was too much trouble. It was glamorous yet relaxed. I am not exaggerating, it is stunning. The grounds are magical and the food was sensational too. I’m so happy we booked, the photos do not quite do it justice.

Pros: Excellent My wife is a vegetarian and our host cooked a breakfast for her, the location is remote but that is how we like it, It is a good central base for visiting Argyll
Cons: No real complaints all was good.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had the king size room at the back of the house and the storage place for clothing was impressive. The sound of the little stream at the back of the house was so peaceful. And the en-suite was superb. We loved that we were able to relax due to the beautiful and tranquil surroundings of the cottage. Our host Graham was great at engaging conversation with himself and with other guests at breakfast and was very informative of places to visit. We thouroughly enjoyed our stay.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: A cosy little house in country side with very friendly host. We received good tips for our travel from him.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Another place somewhere in the highlands, not too far from some tourist highlights (Oban/Mull/Historic sites of Kilmartin) . The host is very friendly and a source of excellent ideas of what to do in the area. Also good to get a digital detox, sine the internet connection is somewhat slow if exisiting at all, as we have seen in many places in Scottland.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Quite possibly the best BnB we have stayed at! Graham is an amazing host, cooks an excellent breakfast and made our stay absolutely perfect! The babbling river behind the house and the fresh air resulted in the best sleep we have ever had. Inveraray is only 15 minutes away, giving you plenty of options to choose from for dinner or coffee. There is great amount of things to do and see within a 30-40 minute radius, which makes this BnB perfectly located. We cannot recommend this place enough!

Pros: Our room and en suite were huge! Also extremely quiet despite there being other couples staying here - and dogs! We were made to feel very welcome, as was our dog.
Cons: A couple of dusty corners and bath plug, but otherwise spot on!

The Taynuilt Inn - Taynuilt

8.1 Excellent (218 reviews)
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice Inn and very good breakfast. Wifi is good and the staff is very friendly.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The manager and the serving staff were very nice
6.8 Good
Pros: Young, friendly and helpful staff. Atmospheric building. Excellent evening meals and breakfast
Cons: A beer garden would be good.
6.8 Good
Pros: We where quite dissapointed that our £108 room didn’t have a television.... we were moved to another room but the standard of this room want good -the window was painted shut so no way of getting any fresh air, the main ceiling light, cupboard light and bathroom light were not working -making it quite hard to go to the loo!!! I don’t think I would use this hotel again not good value for money... the food was lovely and so were the staff...
Cons: Not a very high standard... see above
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The room was spacious and comfortable. Nice breakfast, though you have to pre order everything.
Cons: The Inn is under new ownership and is being updated after been empty for some time. The television wasn't working without the internet which was getting sorted the day after we stayed. I couldn't get the internet through the tv to work , so that wasn't good, but should be all sorted now. Could do with a couple of chairs in the room.
9.5 Excellent
Pros: Location and ample parking. The bar area is gorgeous and dinner was absolutely delicious. I wished I wasn't so full do I could have had dessert! Lovely touches like tunnocks teacakes in the bedroom and Scottish fine toiletries. I really think you get a lot for your money here! I paid £80 for a king room ensuite with breakfast here but £50 for 2 beds in a hostel dorm in the Highlands the next night!
Cons: The bathrooms are dated but I think will be renovated soon. The haggis and black pudding at breakfast shouldn't be included as it would put tourists off if its the first time they try it! I know it's a free breakfast but there's plenty on the plate to not need it. The rest if it was delicious though.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location and friendliness of serving staff.
Cons: The breakfast was not as expected. Some items were over cooked and some undercooked. It would be good if baked beans were on the menu too. Patio of the bedroom we had needs a bit of tender love and care and it would make a big difference. Please also note an extension lead is needed for the kettle. These are all things that are easily rectified and the place would be a lot more desirable.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The pub and bar downstairs have a great feel to them, it’s been done up really nicely and the staff are fantastic.
Cons: It’s right on the road so you can hear the traffic from the bedrooms at the front. The bathrooms haven’t been done up yet, I think it’s a work in progress, so the shower is a little dated.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Bedding exceptional, bed comfortable, staff helpful. Nothing too much trouble.
Cons: Poor ventilation.

Cons: Welcome poor and misinformed. Didn’t offer to carry bags upstairs to room yet saw him helping other guests with their luggage. Television didn’t work. If I was supposed to ask to have it switched on no-one told me that when checking in. Meal was poor. Couldn’t eat the beef. 175ml glass of wine = £13 full bottle was £28. Waitress even told me that the bottle was better value. I had to point out to her that a full bottle was too much for me! No-one asked me about my stay.left the restaurant when no staff were there but they could clearly see that the beef had only one bite out of it!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff of the hotel was lovely and kind. The hotel itself is situated in the middle of nature and it has a fantastic view of the Loch Awe. The hotel is so romantic and perfect for couples.

Pros: Staff very good As requested they put 2 rooms together

8.8 Excellent
Pros: The staff were very friendly and the room was clean.
Cons: There was music playing downstairs until midnight possibly even longer (no clock in the room to check) and it began again about 6.30/7am. When playing this is VERY loud in room 53. It sounds as if the music is in the room. Not a great sleep due to this. The beds are also very uncomfy and very noisy. If annoying in the room rolled over all 3 of us were awake. No plug sockets near bed.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: I did not like anything about this hotel. It was so dated and the staff were so unhelpful it made my stay uncomfortable. The food was atrocious and was all frozen and heated up.
Cons: The hotel had a horrible damp smell throughout. The room and bathroom had a really bad damp smell. The food was atrocious and the staff didn’t appear to care or have any customer service experience.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Staff member at breakfast was pleasant. Cooked breakfast was good and appeared freshly cooked. Good selection at the continental buffet. Area is lovely but not sure if any rooms can provide"mountain views" advertised.
Cons: Staff when checking in obviously didn't want to be there. No information given on where breakfast is, pointed to a board for WiFi/meal times/check out times. When enquiring about eating a late supper where given a uncertain time of a long wait. Also told nearest other option was Oban. Actually another hotel around 3 miles away, where we ended up eating. Walls are thin and can hear room next door and above talking Floor above was exceptionally creaky and woke us up through the night When asked how our stay was when checking out were told it's an old building and when emphasised how extreme it was were met a shrug and a smile. Car parking is limited and appears to be taken up by plant tunnels.
2.5 Mediocre
Pros: The road out
Cons: The staff were not friendly and quite rude The smell was so stale which got worse the closer you got to your room which was appalling bad The noise level was so bad we didn't sleep you could hear the people upstairs using the bathroom and more We had a cooked breakfast in the morning which was about enough for a toddler and when we made toast to have with this were very rudely told that toast was from the continental breakfast and would cost us an additional £5:95
6.8 Good
Pros: Friendly staff
Cons: Extremely dated hotel and lacking facilities in the room. Bed sheets and towels had damp smell and bed was very uncomfortable .Guests in a room near us were smoking cannabis so we had to be moved rooms as the smell was unbearable . Cooked Breakfast was inedible.
