Friendly, informal, lovely bright airy spacious rooms. Hostess attended to our needs without being overbearing.
This family run B&B style country house was a thoroughly enjoyable experience with extremely friendly staff who did everything to make our visit a pleasant one. We could find no faults at all and would definitely come back. All our needs were catered for, we were very lucky to find such a great place.
Made to feel very welcome. Very convenient for Ayrshire coast, getting up to Glasgow.
The owner of the Lodge could not do enough for you. After a long journey she was happy to provide a glass of wine and a snack. Very helpful and would highly recommend this place to all my friends Finding the place was difficult as the Sat Nav took us to a different address. Make sure you put in the name of the road. We rang for derections and the ower was again very helpful
The scottish hospitality. The owner was very friendly and obliging. couldnt be more helpful. The room was very clean and comfortable, fresh towels every day.Light refreshments were left for us in our room every day. A real home from home.
the staff was really sympathic and helpfull
Everyone was very welcoming and helpful. Overall a very friendly atmosphere.
Staff were lovely, very helpful. Staff went above and beyond what I would call 'the call of duty'. We stayed for a wedding and was in a rush getting changed, hence we left a bit of a mess. Our room was clean and tidy when we arrived back late in the evening. Was very unexpected but much appreciated. Children under 14's are not allowed. However, I fully appreciate and support this idea due to the fact that there have been some families that just don't respect the property or appreciate the hard work that goes into running a B&B
Very friendly, helpfull, knowledge of the area was good could,nt be any more helpfull.room was very clean, truely recomend personaly would prefer ensuite but hotelier and the large private shower and bathroom made up for this.
It was very difficult to find it, address is not clear, no indication on the road.
Friendly staff and central location. Very noisy both inside and out. We had revellers shouting outside our window till way past midnight. No Continental breakfast as advertised. We had to hang around for breakfast as there was nobody there ( until we went to find someone)
It was clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly Lack of efficiency - day of booking wrong; meals very slow; noisy being above a pub
Very friendly family run hotel. Just newly refurbished-very fresh. Rooms not big but adequate. Food very good and tasty. Ideal for one or two nights but I would like more room space for staying longer.
Staff very friendly and helpful, food good. All newly refurbished and comfortable We were in room 2, it was very cold even with the heating up full! Nothing worse!
The hotel was definitely at the wrong end of Castle Douglas with a young and rowdy clientele who went out to smoke - directly under my room. No double glazing. After closing time a group came back and were shouting on the green opposite until 2.45 a.m.
The staff were friendly, the food was very good and the room was clean and comfy
Staff could not be more helpful Expensive
friendliness and helpfulness of staff the rooms could be warmer
we were at a wedding at the hotel
Great staff. Very welcoming and friendly. Clean and good location. Road a little noisy and flood lights left on all night with light curtains.
The staff was very friendly and helpful Very outdated and grungy. Needs lots of work. Because of the bar downstairs very loud. Till 11:30
I was well looked after by a staff who are capable, friendly and helpful. The food was excellent home cooking and the service was always good. The bars are also good with firendly staff.
Extractor fan sounds like a routemaster bus on tickover. Disapointing breakfast
Basically Nothing. However, a nice local hotel patron carried our bags to our room, he was not an employee of the hotel. The hotel had no extra staff to help us. This is the worst hotel we have stayed in, in years. It should have cost 15-25 GBP, instead of 78 GPB. This hotel was more expensive than a 4 Star B&B & none of the quality. Our Twin bedroom was very small with sink in the bedroom. Very little to no heat in the room from a radiator-had to boil water for warmth.Bathroom had toilet & shower, was so small could not pull-up your clothes after using the toilet, bathroom so cold we could not take a shower.Phone in room did not work.Break- fast options were skimpy/ basic.Breakfast room was cold also. The Staff were not happy with their jobs & it showed. They had one person running the hotel per shift, plus kitchen help. This hotel should be closed. It is a 1 Star hotel, not a 3 Star.
O.K. - used the shower with was fine. Needs cushons for the chairs in the room.
Friendly, convivial and accomodating hotel. Having arrived at lunch time and then found our room, the room was freezing cold and we were told the heating was on a timer and would not come on till 5pm. To be fair, we were then given a fan heater.
Comfortable bar location and good food. No problems encountered.
Very convenient location on the main street. Glad we had a nice quiet room at back of the hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. Gave us bacon sandwiches 'to go', because we had an early start and would miss breakfast. Room decor was old-fashioned and a bit tatty. Pink bathroom suite with green carpet! Had to walk around under the shower to get wet. Spiral staircase a bit awkward when carrying luggage.
Staff were probably the friendliest we have ever met! Tv had one channel working
The room was clean and comfortable Indifferent service and very poor (burnt) breakfast
Very friendly Hotel, good breakfast, rooms basic but clean plenty of fresh towels. Stayed in Room 3 unfortunately outside there was a type of air conditioning unit directly under the bedroom window running most of the night bit of a nuisance even with the window shut.
Beautiful location, warm welcome, excellent dinner, warm comfortable room.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent Location. Comfortable room with wonderful views (room 10). Great Food. Great bar. The hook on the back of the ensuite shower room door was falling off. Toilet rolls weren't replenished. Entrance porch & receptionists area was very tired and gave a wrong first impression of the hotel. There seemed to be a strong smell of stale cigarrette smoke in the corridor where our room was.
The overall standard of hotel, friendly staff, and excellent meals N/A
The beautiful romantic location and the excellent staff. Nothing
The spaciousness of the bedroom The bed matress was uncomfortable - the springs could be felt through the cover.
hotel needs a major amount of money spent on it. Very faded. Beds were awful. Breakfast totally awful.
Scenery and character Slightly lacking on choice at breakfast and chairs in room not ideal for back support
Rural location but near a town. Nice building. Leak at top of window was dripping. Was reported but no action taken.
It was comfortable, clean, restful and good value for money. Breakfast was excellent and the staff, although slightly formal, were very helpful. I did not consider that some of the comments I saw in the original booking info were justified. The static menu, same every night and the vegetables were really uninspiring. A little imagination with the veg would help a lot.
food was nice the room was fine and the staff were helpful.
We booked the cross keys because of its location and good reviews and we were not disappointed. Its a gem.Building itself full of character and the proprietor and staff all very welcoming and good company.Room very comfortable and a bar with a nice atmosphere serving both residents and locals. The food could not be faulted with a substantial breakfast to set you up for the day and a good choice of evening meals of excellent quality and quantity.Although New Galloway itself is somewhat quiet it is an excellent base from which to explore the area.We really enjoyed our stay
Helpfull and friendly staff. Good food. Relaxed atmosphere.
Friendly hotel, which is well presented and well run. Food was very good as was the atmosphere in the public bar.
The combination of hotel, restaurant and pub,-all in one building,in an atmosphere of history.Excellent food!
very hospitable bar no car parking
Homely atmosphere and comfortable Very expensiev for the facilities provided, breakfast not served after 10am, no late check-in, hotel manager locks the door at midnight - this hotel is only suitable for people who rise early in the morning and head to bed after a drink in the attached bar around 11pm.
Friendly helpful staff, food delicious and generous portions Would have liked to have a lounge room where guests could relax rather than just stay in the room or the bar
Newly renovated, spotlessly clean, helpful staff. Low sloping ceilings made room feel slightly claustrophobic. No shaver point in bathroom.
food was excellent, fresh and well cooked. Good menu. Sunday breakfast is too late with the dining room not opening until 8.30 am. We had to go out for a walk before breakfast to kill time. Also there was nobody about so we couldn't even check out and pay! Most people (especially bird watchers) want to be away early, so this was frustrating and would prevent us from returning. Even a 'help yourself' cereal table with a toaster and tea/coffee would have sufficed. Four couples ended up just sitting in the dining room at 8.15 am waiting for someone to appear as they had long journeys to complete and wanted to be away.
