The rooms are quiet and spacious The Reception staff where always dour, never cheerfull and no houmour
Breakfast buffet was excellent, location ideal for city visit with kids. Very courteous staff. Hotel restaurant was also very accommodating to our little ones at dinnertime. Our bed was comprised of two singles put together. Oddly, the beds had wheels and there was no way to attach them together or stop the wheels from rolling. Consequently, with a small child between us, it was difficult to keep him from slipping between the two without keeping on one mattress or the other, largely defeating the purpose of the "larger" bed!
Comfort of room very good
Staff were attentive, friendly and professional.
large rooms big soft bed easy to find 5minutes on tram 1 from railway station
Staff were friendly and helpful and spoke flawless English, without exception. Hotel decor in corridors was a bit gloomy - all grey walls.
as good as always has beengood location, good rooms, good staff
hotel is excellent located to visit Gent. -shower needs badly a thermostatic regulated valve. -touristic info on Gent available at the hotel is poor
mooi hotel, goede locatie midden in het centrum!! Mooie schone kamers en vriendelijk personeel.
Location excellent, beds good, smart lobby. This place was dissapointing, huge spacious wide corridors led to average sized rooms, why? Rooms were designed in rather cold unwelcoming style, showers poor, really bad and really expensive cocktails, overpriced breakfast. My advice? Go stay at the Marriot, its cheaper and much nicer overall!
Our reservation was confirmed and when we arrived at 10 p.m. the hotel manager informed us that the hotel is full and refused to accomodate us referring to a problem with computer program. Hard to believe it could be at Marriot Hotel!!! We had to spend the night looking for another hotel.
very pleassant open entrance of the parking
Just about everything -- the Poppi bar, the room, the hotel's architecture, the location, the staff, the food. And what a Mojito! The only thing that we disliked is the elevator that takes you to the Parking Garage. You need to press 2 buttons to get to the correct level, and I often had to try this 3 times to get it right. A 2 star elevator in a 5 star hotel. But, otherwise, the hotel was fantastic.
Nice and clean rooms. excellent location in the historical centre of Gent. The price for the room is extra ordinary and an extra pay of 23,-€ per person per night for an ordinary breakfast buffet is to high. There was nothing what excuses the price in comparision to other hotels.
Location of the hotel. Limited capacity of breakfast facilities on a busy weekend.
Hotel stuff is very good. Location & design of hotel are outstanding.
The central location for wonderful walks exploring this extremely pretty city.
Great hotel and the staff are very helpfull and a lovely comfortable hotel
Excellent quality of bed and bedding. Nice touch of pillow spray appreciated. I have used this hotel over the years and like to see familiar staff at check-in and restaurant management.
The staff were friendly, breakfast was excellent and the hotel room was comfortable. Good location.
No smoking hotel - Dog Friendly Restaurant standard was poor with cheap ingrediants poorly prepared and overpriced - evening buffet appeared to consist of left over finger buffet offerrings from the day's conferences/business meetings. Difficut to approach by car other than using Jcn 14 of E40 - Ghent itself was dirty, smelly and appears to be a centre for stag/hen all day drinking.
I liked it's location, it's right next door to the Flanders Expo where I was going for I Love Techno so was very convienient and it's also very close to the tram. I also really liked the hotel staff they were very helpful and friendly. The connected internet or the wireless didn't work in the room.
I don't like the rooms with a window to : the restaurant :(
The stuff are very nice. The Buffet breakfast is excellent. The Dinner restaurant has a quite limited selection of food.
I must admit I liked the fact that it is one of those rare hotels left in that it contains smoking rooms. I have not come across one in a long time and it was a real pleasure to be able to relax, smoke and not be dictated to. Thank you Holiday Inn, Ghent.
A nice and relaxed atmosfere
Bathroom tiles were quite dirty; they cleaned them after we complained. The carpet needed cleaning,
Great really good staff
Interesting hotel building interior. Clean, quiet and comfortable room. Excellent breakfast. Peerless staff. Secure parking. Gloomy hotel building interior. Room a little too small and difficult to access (on third floor with no elevator because it's a scheduled historic building). The stairs are dangerous - especially the bottom step which looks like it's part of the floor (I fell and so did at least one other guest). Next time I will stay at a brighter, more accessible and safer hotel closer to the city centre. Hopefully its staff will be just as good.
Excellent hotel, with pleasant and helpful staff in a quiet and authentic place just 10 minutes walking distance from the city centre. Quick connection to the highway and parking place available. Free wireless internet, a spacious room and a great breakfast.
Very pleasant stay - would come back
Nice traditional design in an historical house. Personalized welcome A lot of stairs for older travellers. Room to room noise insulation limitted.
We had a wonderful stay, hotel close to centre, staff friendly, breakfast excellent, room comfortable. It would have been nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room, room at front of hotel so lot of traffic noise in morning, Towels supplied did not match comfort of the room
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful. On check-in Martin gave us a map and a booklet on Ghent. He spent time with us showing us where to visit and how to get there and recommended restaurants, cafes and places of interest to us. Our room was fabulous and lived up to the description on the web site. We will definitely go back and already I have recommended it to friends and work collegues.
very nice, location, service, great room
It is a very nice old-style building. There is free WIFI. Don't choose the standard rooms. They're on the top of the building and very low (2.30m). Because there is no elevator you also have to walk almost 80 stairs. It is not possible to look out of the windows (4 Velux) in a normal position. It is difficult to get or to keep the room cool in summertime. Choose the more Luxury rooms (as i did the the first time): they certainly deserve a 10!
A very interesting house with impressive period features Needs a lot of work to bring it up to the comfort standards people would expect. Lack of carpets in rooms and stairways meant there was a lot of noise at night.
It was quite different and the refurbishment was interesting and the owner were trying hard to keep the building as it would have been. The owners were very friendly and welcoming The floorboards creaked at lot, but we were told and the owner advised residents of this.
Spacious room with luxury bathroom. Hotel situated on canal side in historic centre, but quiet. Generous choice at breakfast. Staff aimed to helpful, but did not know about current diversion of nearest tram service due to road works.
If you want to visit the center of Gent the location of this hotel is perfect. The children can even have a swim on one of the rooftops when it's nice weather. The way to our room wasn't very nice; through the lobby and a hallway, then outside at the back, down an outside stairs, across the entrance of the parking garage, up in an elevator.
Very friendly and accommodating staff, small quiet hotel. Perfect location, beautiful clean and luxurious rooms.
Very nice hotel. Great big room with canal view. The staff was was very friendly.
The room was large with very modern styling. It had plenty of storage space and the enormous bed was extremely comfortable. The breakfast was beautifully presented with a wide range of choice from the buffet. All staff were very friendly. No complaints whatsoever.
Toprooms have superb view
Having stayed here before what I can stay is I feel very, very comfortble when I stay here. The rooms are excellent and the staff are all extremely friendly. The hotel is close to the centre and very good restaurants are to be found within a five minute radius. All in all a fine place to stay.
Very comfortable and modern room
It's a new and supernice hotel located very centrally. The staff is extremely helpfull.
Fantastic Breakfast in a pleasant room. room was a bit cramped
Handy to town centre and good quality hotel
i love the location the most. the hotel is really nice located by the canel which is nice. everything is great, but the toilet i can smell pee pee which ruin everthing.
Comfortable hotel close proximity to the centre, modern facilities ideal for the business trip. Staff very helpful when problems were reported. Lack of attention to detail, the wifi system gave problems as did the door entry system. The lift failed but no messages on each floor to advise guests.
Cool rustic room in a hotel with more modern rooms too. Good sized bathroom. Nearby all the things I wanted to see but not on a main road so it was quiet. My room as pretty cool but a bit dark.
The location is excelent. The room we stayd in was in touch with the room of the cleaness (it even had a door conecting booth rooms). So, early in the moorning we couldn´t sleep with the noise of the hotel staff!! Not pleasant, this room should not be rented to anyone!!
Nice location, comfortable, clean room and facilities. Good and generous breakfast although we missed it a couple days due to poor communication at the front desk. We arrived in Ghent very late 11 PM. Reception desk was confused and sent us to the wrong room. It was occupied by naked people who were busy on the bed when we walked in. Amusing for us but very embarrassing for the hotel clerk. He compensated with free beer and apologies. In the excitement he forgot to tell us the breakfast area was located on the 3rd floor. We missed breakfast the first 2 mornings. Another minor irritation was the same dirty coffee cup was left in the room for 3 days, while the bed and everything else was cleaned up. Despite the small gaffes the staff were mostly friendly and helpful and the hotel was nice. We would stay here again.
I liked the location, the modern style and the breakfast room on the roof. Staying for only one night I felt the room was a bit dark and dismal looking onto some parked cars and not one of the better rooms.Because the weather was very miserable I would have liked the ability/ choice to have had more lights on if I wanted them would have been useful. I would have liked to have been able to check in before 4pm.
Good position close to the centre. Very friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable spacious room and excellent breakfast.
The situation of the rooms with view on the water. To expensive for the quality of the room.
Excellent location, very modern. Sound proofing between rooms not good. Room 2.20 is to be avoided as the breadfast room outside portion is right above it, and from 7.30 am people scrape chairs around and one can hear people talking as if they are in the room...! Probably any other room is excellent!
the restaurant was an unexpected suprise the food there was excellent
The river location was excellent We were aksed to check out at 10 am (1 hour earlier than normal) as a "football team were checking in that day". Should that have made our stay shorter ??
Very nice surrounding, quiet, charming hotel. Better place to stay compare to city hotels and it is not far.
The hotel is in a lovely setting and has a very nice ambiance. The walls are very thin and you can hear everything that your neighbours do in their room or on the hallway.
Good atmosphere, cultivated lokation and enviroment, breakfast exellent
Old country style building nicely located along the river. Gourmet restaurant is the main force of this hotel. For those traveling without car will have difficulty to get to this hotel by public transport. Taxi from Gent could be quite expensive.
The location is superb. Rooms are nbot too big - at least ours - but furnished with taste. The noise was a serious problem. Doors and walls are not well insulated and a lot of noise coming from people returning or leaving their rooms. We could almost understand the conversation of the neighbours from our room. Whilst the location and set-up is very pleasant and recommendable, I would hesitate to send anyone because of the noise in the rooms.
Very good standard of food in the brasserie. This was busy with locals using it for dinner. Hotel not busy, given an upgrade in room. Quiet location yet easy access from motorway. Friendly staff and English spoken.
Asa always - very pleasant staff and lovely hotel. In the weekends - they need more staff to help at the busy breakfast time, but he did his best.
the bed was really big and room too.
Good location and comfortable. Difficult to find due to road closures, parking under the hotel not easy.
The hotel is convenient for the centre and is in easy walking distance of the main sites of Ghent Check in time is advertised as being 14.00 however, we arrived at 15.45 and our room was not ready,
The location is great. The hotel is right in the center of the city and almost everything you will want to see is within walking distance. The hotel is clean and well kept. It's an international chain and lacks charm.
Central location. Bog-standard, somewhat dirty hotel with unhelpful staff. Impossible to get to by car!!! Don't even try... I parked 100m from the hotel but it took me 1/2 hour to get to the parking, by which time the receptionist had let the car park fill up- despite knowing I was on my way.
the location was perfect the atmosphere in the hotel was not so cosy
The location was excellent, it was in the old part of the town & was in a beautiful location with the Christmas market just at the side of it. the tourist infomation is 100m (away) and the main tram stop is 200m (approx) away. the breakfast was first class with a selection of a continental or more fimiliar english style breakfast (eggs, bacon, sausages) this hotel is in a perfect location for seeing all the attractions of the city.it was clean and comfortable. they also offer free use of a sauna and steamroom.
Really helpful and friendly staff. Clean and comfortable. Will definatly be staying at this hotel again. Quite difficult to find hotel parking due to one way systems and pedestrian streets but hotel staff were brilliant with directions.
Central location The bathroom floor and shower base needed a real scrub with bleach, they were dirty and moldy. The breakfast cost 18 euros each which we didnt want to spend so went to the nearby Pain Quotidien for a delicious fresh and much cheaper breakfast. Parking was also impossible as the streets are blocked with roadworks and pedestrian zones, so our GPS took a long time to help us locate the hotel. I think the hotel owners/website should include a map of how to best navigate the city. Too expensive for an ordinary and basic room.
Good hotel in excellent location. Ghent is gorgeous and will be even better when it's finished. Easy stroll to all the main tourist sights and brilliant bars.
Hotel convenient for the station and on tram route into city centre. Pleasant staff, excellent room and great breakfast. We could find no fault with this hotel
Excellent Design on rooms and breakfast area
The location of the hotel is in the city center. The size of the superior room is quiet big. There is no parking inform of the hotel, you need to walk to next street were hotel uses its parking space. The bars dose not offer any snacks or dishes at the evening, so no food. The bathroom facilities can be better for 4 star hotel.
Comfortable room and friendly service Restaurant was closed
Nh hotels typically have a certain style which I prefer over other hotels which have often the "american" touch or following the 'french/accor" formula. So does the one in Gent.
The room was not very clean. Under the bed was dust balls and it was obvious that it was not vacumed in about 4 weeks. The 3 level really did not smell very well. The front office staff was very friendly and helpfull. But I think the cleaning staff is very lazy.
mini bar was not well equipped, area was terrible, in the suite are not even 2 chairs
Spacious and comfortable rooms, pleasanr staff who gave map and information about seeing Ghent. Close to Railway Station which made travelling to other places in Belgium convenient.
Staff were helpful, accommodation and food were of a good standard, close enough to city center to walk to easily, without noise of being right in the centre
late check out on Sunday. very clean. close to train station. a little far from the city center.
Location, Helpfull staff No Air-Con
The Hotel staff were very nice and the apartment was spacious, comfortable and clean and was conveniently located for the city centre with onsite parking if required.
Very friendly staff
the staff is very helpful, and the room is very spacious. We also have a complete kitchen when we could make a cup of tea or coffee, which is very relaxing after a day trip. The breakfast is good.
We stayed as a party of 8 and everyone of us enjoyed our stay with your help in booking us a taxi to the velodrome which was very much appreciated. nice to have a television with english speaking programmes. Lack of of coffee or tea in the room although all facilities were provided to make same
The size of rooms. I didn't realize there was a living room and a bedroom until after we checked in. I was reassured that the complimentary breakfast ended at 10 am by the front desk staff at least twice. Breakfast actually ends at 9 and we missed it by 15 minutes. I was pretty disappointed since we factored the breakfast into our budget. The woman in the restaurant was nice and gave us coffee and croissants, but everything else had already been consumed.
The room is very clean, easily accessible, the arrangement of the room is very good. No!
Location. Very helpful stuff. Good restaurant and breakfest. Nice size of room. Spacious parking area. Bathroom can be mordenized.
the hotel appartment concept the cleaning
It was very comfortable to have an apartment with the extra room rather than just a hotel room.
Free parking, easy access and clean The No Smoking room had a strong smell of smoke.....
The old townhouse had been very well restored with lots of design features. The junior suite was large and well equipped and the shower was amazing. The location could not have been better. Wasn't too pleased with having to remove shoes at the front door and the communal breakfast around one table was a bit awkward.
We stayed in the "modern" room and it was comfortable, clean, and relaxing. The continental breakfast was substantial and delicious. The hosts were friendly and welcoming.
Friendly owners, nice breakfest and although the house is located at a busy crossroad, very good noise reduction Be aware you might go up long stairs (might be a problem for elderly people or with much luggage
Owner is really kind, room is clean . location is very nice there are mosquitos in the room. I killed at least 10 which are full of blood
Very central location, very clean and has own face. Maybe one thing - I don't think it is good idea to have a'communal' breakfast at the one big table...
A very friendly welcoming place, with great attention to detail in the individually designed rooms. Parking included, as well as free wireless - both good plus points for me. Its location within Gent is excellent
Cleaness and no noice Breakfast coffee
window above the room-door towards the court that could not be darkened - and the court was illuminated all night, worn kingsize-mattress with a gradiant towards the middle
location, ease of booking, reasonable pricing The staff was not overly friendly. They did not do anything wrong but only did what was strictly necessary. Did not give a warm feeling.
The location nearby the towncentre. Not easy to find from outside
I got a great deal on the booking website, and was very happy with the service and breakfast and room, all very good, and a good location in old town Gent. receptionist did not smile once when booking us in or asking questions.
My first room (no 1) was terrible. I changed rooms and that room (447) was absolutely perfect. Night porte was very friendly 1) Lobby dirty (cigarettes in flower pots etc. beer tins in the garden 2) People smoking just outside the hotel 3) Room airco did not work. Room about 27 degrees celcius. So I had to change rooms 4) terrible music in the lobby and in the bar. The same music went on and on and on. It was clear to me that hotel management was not on top of things.
Central location. Very quiet. The drain on the shower was defective so the bathroom flooded.
Excellent location. Really good breakfasts. Very comfortable room.
Excellent hotel, very close to centre. Very relaxing atmosphere, lovely staff.
The room was beautiful and very modern. Very quiet--the new part of the hotel is in a building about a block away from the original building and is set back from the street. The 15:00 check in time is very strict and the place to leave your bags is out in the open and not very well supervised. Anyone could walk in from the street and take a bag, the front desk wasn't always staffed. This is tough on travelers relying on public transportation. Breakfast was quite expensive (€21 per person for a buffet) so we opted to find food on our own. Unfortunately, very little is open before 11:00, so finding your own breakfast is difficult.
the spa facilities were absolutly amazing. the designing is eyeblowing and so fun, the room feels friendly and we wont mind a house like this for us :) the indoor pool room was too cold to get in it. the jacuzzi was also a little cold. The host leaves there and it feels a little awkward to walk around while he's always there(he was somewhat inappropriate)
A stunning design hotel with exceptional attention to detail. The host and owner was very welcoming, laid-back and accomodating, it was like staying with a friend who owned a multi-million euro apartment with pool and spa facilities. Our room was comfortable and quiet, we actually slept in too long in the morning! I would recommend a taxi over public transport to get into town.
Pool was great for laps. Jacuzzi very relaxing. Room very big. I slept very well. It was a bit far from town. But can be reached by tram 1 (then walk for 20 minutes) or the buses 76, 77 and 78. Pretty frequent during the day. Otherwise taxi from downtown costs less than 20 euros.
Host was very nice and helpful. Room was ideal. It was further from the city centre than I had expected. Not advisable location if you do not have a car
A fantastic oasis ! Modern design, yet very cozy and comfortable with just four units. One just has to have time for the swimming pool, sauna, steam bath and jacuzzi. A very fine breakfast too !! Close to the freeway but still quiet. We walked to the bus and took the tram to downtown.
A hotel that is quite different from almost anywhere else you have ever stayed
Wonderful stay in 18th century mansion. Exquisite design, close to historic city center. Rococo dining room a must see.
Hotel Verhaegen is a beautiful hotel, decorated with love! The guys who run it are very friendly and polite.
The service was smooth, friendly, and attentive. The stay felt like a visit with family. The decor was a mix of antique and modern, which gave a welcoming feel. The Internet service was excellent, the furniture comfortable, and the hotel mascot, Zenobio, a big friendly dog, was a happy welcoming party!
A beautiful hotel. The owners, both interior designers, have created a beautiful space in which to enjoy a restful stay. The bedroom was an excellent size, beautifully equipped and the bed the most comfortable we have ever slept on. The breakfast was served in a beautiful dining room in a fine dining manner. Fantastic coffee, pastries and cooked breakfast. A very enoyable stay. Pricey but definitely worth it.
Special and pacefull place in the historical center. Really a charme hotel
The roo was absolutely amazing as was the whole place. The garden in the back is one of Ghent's hidden gems. It really felt like a you were in a country farmhouse. A very grand country farmhouse.
This is the nicest hotel we have stayed in - the beauty of the place, and all its details, are very special, and we felt very welcome. The location is excellent too - if you want a stay to remember, this is the place.
We liked everything. The friendliness, incredibly helpful people who couldn't do enough for you. And the most elegant hotel we have stayed in. And the restaurant recommended by our hosts, just round the corner, was outstanding - the coeur d'artichaut.
Beautiful decor and soft bed. Room very quiet. Lovely Staff. Stairs, Great location to town and attractions, but street not the most attractive
