The staff member who booked us in, and who also seemed to do everything else, was very friendly & helpful. It's a lovely building but the interior is in need of a refurb. We actually have stayed there before a few years ago, and the rooms are looking 'worn' & 'drab' which is a shame as it used to be a nice hotel.
Price My stay was not very good, you could here every noise from the room next door. was very off putting.
staff was extremely helpful.Pleasant surrounding and very peaceful. Good value for the money. Abit shabby, could do with updating. The walk in shower that we had requested was very small and had a very large step up, which are daughter who we were travelling with who has mobility problems then couldn't use. that was a bit disappointing.
was a nice place, the first member of staff we met was helpful and arrived with a smile, was a nice building in a good location but could do with updating again could do with updating as rooms were a little dingy, everything worked in the room but on checking out other guests were complaining. the staff that checked me out seemed to only be interested in finishing the transaction and getting you out the door, a smile would have been nice. also wasn't to happy that there was only one towel and no hair drier.
A pleasant location Lack of dining facilities (Despite menus in room and signs outside advertising the restaurant) and milk for making drinks in room almost two months out of date.
Lovely position and could be a lovely hotel We had stayed here 2 years ago and understood from the web site that it had been refurbished but it hadn't. Everything was clean but the rooms were shabby
excellent breakfast Not really
The old style building and the woodland setting The shower was very mouldy. The bed was old and lumpy
Nothing Very basic and dated room carpets dirty and stained. Cigerette burns on bedspread. Ensuite old, mouldy and unclean.
All staff were extremely friendly and I was made to feel a welcome guest
Linda, the breakfast chef went out of her way to be helpful. The location was ideal for our needs. Desperately in need of refurbishment. Probably OK for housing the homeless.
Food was excellent. There was no cold water in the rooms
It appears the Hotel is being run down. The resteraunt was terrible and should be avoided at all costs
Staff are really pleasant & helpful
Friendly, helpful staff. Good value. It says on Booking.com that there is free wifi throughout the the hotel but actually we could only access it in the Lobby. Breakfast was included in the rate but we missed it because they had cleared away by 9am.
Comfy and homely. Away from traffic. All very pleasent
Non-smoking part of hotel with newer rooms was great. We had one room in this end. Smoking end was fine for decor and OK for smokers!! I was put in a smokers room. I asked to be changed as it stank of smoke but was told no. The receptionist said that it was not a smokers room although there was an ashtray by the bed and it smelt terrible. He said that as no-one had been in it for 2 days it was fine. Next doors radio and alarm went off 5 times during the night. The wall was only thin and I thought it was in my room as it was so loud. Had a terrible night!
The service was excellent. Staff were helpful, friendly and attentive. Very good breakfast with healthy options and choice of fruit, fruit juices, cereal as well as English breakfast. Chef was kind enough to find Earl Grey teabags for our room as well. I reported a broken bedside lamp which was not mended.
The staff were very friendly and willing to joke around whilst being extremely efficient and eager to help. They went out of their way to do things for me, and did them very well. I had read online reviews from 2005 which said the hotel was grotty, etc., but either people have incredibly exacting standards or they have had refurbishment because the room looked just fine to me. 3 stars is entirely appropriate, I think.
being left to our own devices and not being troubled un-necessarily by staff.
Have stayed there many times, it is convenient for the railway station and Halifax centre, some rooms are better and quieter than others, but the hotel is usually ok.
Reception staff very good. Breakfast staff bored and the whole breakfast experience was shoddy. This left a bad feeling after an otherwise very good stay.
Staff were overall very friendly. Location next to train station ideal for people arriving late. Food in the restaurant bar was good quality, although the choice was fairly limited. Hotel is in a fairly old building so there was no double glazing in the room and there was some noise from roads and neighbouring buildings.
The hotel was comfortable and clean with a gteat view just outside the front door. A gteat place to rest your head from beautiful Yorkshire sightseeing. The menu available in the bar was very limited and did not change day to day. It would have been good to have a couple of vegetarian options.
The staff there were very friendly and helpfull.
The location was perfect, across from train station. The place was attractive and reasonably priced in the market. There was no access to the internet, and the hotel staff were uninformed about where such access could be found. Also, there was minimal information about local community services.
The staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were dated but clean and functional.
Staff helpfull food good There was nothing I did not like at the hotel
We wanted a hotel within walkling distance from theatre and restaurants that was affordable and comfortable. This hotel ticked all the boxes. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast plentyful and good. Room clean and tidy. Price excellent. Would recommend it if you want to stay in town for a quick overnight stay.
The rooms were comfortable The food was not cheap and the bar was expensive for the area. Breakfast was also expensive.
Nice room interior and country location Floor boards overhead very noisy when people moved around in the room above sufficiently so to wake you up, noisy loud guests or even owners/staff I am not sure who returning past midnight making a lot of noise in the corridors and then walking about a lot upstairs creaking the really noisy floors.
24 hour service available, friendliness of staff
Wifi is poor at best. I would rather pay for Internet access and have a decent connection
Blakes bar was very nice and it was good to have use of the pool next door and towels supplied. not really no.
Clean Room , convenient location for my business requirements
Friendly staff, superb room, easy access and parking
good clean, stylish hotel. very good restaurant. lovely staff.
Value for money, access to the spa. Too noisy, with noise coming up from a private function and then noise from the next door room and corridors. No place in the communal areas for children (play room or just a safe area).
My wife and I were visiting our relatives in Dodworth and so your Hotel was very convenient. The breakfast buffet selection was excellent. 1.--Regretably, there was insufficent staff on duty in the dining room for Sunday breakfast as there were a large number of wedding guests who stayed overnight. This did cause a slight hiatus.--2.Our room 211,appeared to have thin walls as we could hear our neighbours (a family) in 212.They were not excessively noisy either.
helpful staff, lovely and warm on a freezing weekend, comfey beds, and central to city. no bar, but reccommended great real ale pub 5mins walk away.
The staff were extremely helpful, polite, and welcoming on every level. the rooms were very warm and very clean, and we had an excellent nights sleep. The breakfasts were freshly cooked to order and there was plenty of variety. The hotel was very close to the town centre.
Hotel needed some TLC around the edges but staff very helpful. Good value. Furrniture in the room needed updating.
The staff were very welcoming and helpful eg we were able to leave our luggage and pick it up later. The room was clean, quiet and pleasant and the facilities good. Nothing...all good
Good breakfast, excellent staff, clean and comfortable room. No bar or lounge.
Pleasant staff, comfortable room. Good breakfast, good price. Central location None
I found the cambridge lodge to be in great location, staff friendly and room very clean and comfortable
Very central, friendly staff. Comfy room. None whatsoever
The staff were excellent, made sure everything was to our satisfaction. Nothing
Attentive and eager to please staff. Good breakfast Central location makes for easy walking to town centre Some aspects of cleaning.
every thing worked and the staff were very pleasant and nice to deal with
convenience third party taxi called by hotel did not know where the hotel was nor my very local destination.
The staff were most pleasant and helpful and the meals were well presented and of good quality.
The hotel was clean and very comfortable.Ideal situation for peace and quiet in the countryside.Well situated for a visit to the Kirklees Railway Limited menu. The same menu each day.Not a wide choice of food. However, the meals were delicious and well presented.
Everything was wonderful. My room which was in the main building was absolutely delightful with a fabulous view. The general atmosphere of the hotel was peaceful and lovely and staff were helpful and friendly. Couldn't fault it at all and wish I'd been able to stay longer.
Nice grounds Breakfast cold be better, was cold and little left,
We went to see a concert in holmfirth
setting/quality of food/price
In a lovely country atmosphere, excellent grounds, ease of distance to motorway, average food.
Excellent food in resturant good breakfast very attentive staff pleasant grounds Do not book the lake view rooms these are in a seperate converted "barn" you will think you are in a travel lodge.
No complaints at all None
the staff were friendly and welcoming and also the rooms were of a excellent standard i would definatelly stop there again.
the staff were extremely helpful
Easy to reach from M1, good location for Wakefield. Very well appointed room and bathroom, very clean. Seemed short staffed at reception during early evening. Had to wait to check in.
cleanliness & helpfullness of staff
We have stayed at this hotel before so we knew what to expect. As before the staff were very friendly and welcoming and the service excellent. The overall cleanliness of the hotel is very good and the meals, breakfast and dinner, were very good. Nothing is perfect but we had no complaints or dislikes.
Hnady for the motorway, clean and well presented.
type of room for the amount of money
The room was very clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and polite and I had a most enjoyable breakfast great poached eggs! I didn't enjoy the evening meal that I ordered expected fresh veg and not frozen.
Overall, were impressed by hotel facilities and staff,as well as standard of food Were unable to take lunch when we arrived at 12pm ,and were directed to a Sainsburys cafe one mile away by a staff member - not blaming girl at reception who was very pleasant and apologetic, but surely lunch at lunchtime,in a hotel is `par for the course?`
Close to amenities but quiet. Friendly and helpful staff at reception and at meal times. Overall, a pleasant stay.
easy to use, accesable, nice surroundings, older pub on the front is appealing.
The friendliness of all the staff and nothing was too much trouble for them, comfort & cleanliness of the room. The only thing was as we didn't drive to the hotel we had to walk on muddy grass to get round the barrier to get in and out.
Proximity to bar and restaurant. Next door to park with lovely trees. Very easy walk to city centre and retail park. Easy bus journey to Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
receptionist very helpful as were breakfast staff. not sure the scrambled eggs were freshly scambled at breakfast
Great breakfast and very friendly hosts. Good views and fresh clean air.
Lovely feel to the hotel. You feel very welcome as soon as you arrive.
bathroom very poor. flush did not clear toilet
We really appreciated the friendly, attentive service. The views from our room and other areas of the hotel were beautiful. Breakfast and lunch were delicious and very reasonably priced. It was our last stop before leaving England ( we originally picked it for it's close proximity to Manchester Airport... 30 minutes away ) and were more than pleased with our choice. It was raining very heavily the morning of our flight, leaving Manchester 9pm, and we didn't know where we were going to fill in the time, the little country drive and leisurely walk we had planned was out of the question. The owners very kindly came to our aid by offering us, at no extra charge, use of the room and facilities until we were ready to leave for the airport.
Staff very friendly, Bar, lounge, and restaurant areas nicely decorated and comfortable. Excellent views all around. Rooms were on the small side.
Exceptionally clean and very comfortable. Delicious food. We were looked after very well.
Felt at home - while we enjoyed being away.
Warm relaxed atmosphere and excellent service and the whole place was very clean. Owners and staff very friendly. The best full English breakfast we've ever had! We will definately stay there again. Nothing
I was truly amazed that the people were extremely friendly. They went out of their way to ensure our stay at Glossop was a memorable one.
Friendly helpful staff and good food. Car parking is a problem in the evenings when there is an event on at the hotel.
well appointed room, restaurant food was good and well priced
Food was far better than expected. I am a somewhat jaded business traveller. Nothing
service limited menu.
Friendly I did not like the fact that you woken up at 8.00am in the morning by a very loud bell which we thought was a fire alarm.
Beautiful park within walking distance. Nice sunny bar area. The furniture in the bar area has been thick of dust on both my visits.
The staff made you feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble.
The quietness, the friendly but courtious staff, & the breakfasts .Can't coment on other meals as didn't have dinner.
The helpfulness of staff, particularly Rosie on reception who helped with all our queries including finding a postcode for the earlsheaton cemetry where my father's parents were burried and a soft broom for me to brush the snow off the car - she is a credit to the hotel. The toilet in our room had been used and not flushed before our arrival. The hotel restaurant was somewhat cold and impersonal although the food and service was fine.
The courtesy and helpfulness of staff. Availability of meals. Comfort of bedrooms. Warmth in cold weather.
The location to my family who live in Wakefield, The very helpful staff, and the cooked breakfast!! The low level bed,and the shower not being a proper closed unit.
location and pub attached nothing
rooms were very clean and good value for money. Food in restaurant was good and entertainment in the bar was great. Staff very friendly Slight musty smell from bathroom
The ease of use, stayin as a Wedding Guest
Free wi-fi, friendly staff, good prices, good breakfast. It was clean and everything worked.
Cleaniness of the room. There was an issue with some of the services in my room. However, i was moved to another room where everything was more than acceptable. For the price of the rooms, a wider selction of TV could be available rather than just freeview channels i.e; sky or cable
The reception staff were consistently helpful and the location was very convenient. The booking system utterly failed to synchronise with the hotel, I had four separate bookings over four weeks, when I had to postpone these before I attended the system was unwieldy and in effective. Then when it came to checking in my details were never to hand and always had to be searched out. I only finally managed to cancel a spurious booking once I was at the hotel. Excellent staff, dreadful booking system. As such I would not presently recommend the hotel because of the booking system and it's lack of synchonisation with the hotel.
The Staff were very friendly and the room was excellent for size and comfort The resteraunt attached to the hotel had very below average food so the evening meal and breakfast was very poor
Room was clean and nicely set out, friendly staff both on reception & in the bar area. nothing
Not very busy No hairdryer in room
very enjoyable i would visit again
Breakfast was excellent however there is no need to charge a supplement for cooked breakfast We arrived at 9 pm - it was a struggle to get food at this time. Also we had requested twin beds but got a double however it was changed after about a half hour- last thing you need after a long day
Very helpful staff, especially with regard to children, great food. Unimaginative room, small bathroom.
The gardens of the hotel, beautiful sank garden, excellent food and the coffee, very poor and thin and we mentioned this to the manager
Had an excellent dinner in the restaurant, lovely food and good wine choice. Also the bed was larger than in most hotels and very comfy too. Bathroom was a bit small, and had no window or extractor so got quite humid/wet.
The location and ambience of Holdsworth House, the Millienium garden and the peaceful setting. The staff were courteous and very helpful, but unobtrusive. No comments
Staff were extremely helpful, polite and professional, a real credit to the hotel. Quite cold in the rooms, heating didn't appear to be working. Bathroom was quite tired in appearance.
Pretty good but the food was pretentious and not quite there. The Chef needs to be told to the simple things well and let the food speak not the menu.
Friendly and helpful statt, who went out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our stay.
I have stayed at Holdsworth House a couple of times now - it is a great place made more special by the staff, all of which are very friendly and helpful.
The attitude/approach of the staff.
The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and comfortable.
friendly cheerful staff. Easy access to town
Friendly staff and clean room. No sandwiches available despite being advertised. Cramped dining room. Bar not open on the evenings despite being told otherwise.
Convenient,quiet & good value
The staff were really fiendly, and the room was large, spotless and extremely good value. The breakfast was huge, and as much as anyone could want. Service was top notch. Will defintely stay here again if we are in the area.
We liked the location and the relaxed welcoming atmosphere of Stanley View Guest House. Staff were also very helpful with advice about local cultural attractions and events which we would not have known about otherwise.
Quite quiet and easy axcess
The hospitality of the owner and staff Nothing
The pool, spa and gym facilities were good. The function food was excellent and unusually for such gatherings it was served hot. Both receptionists were efficient and friendly. One of our group rang the hotel five times in the week leading up to our stay to book spa/beauty treatments but the phone was not answered. A booking lost I'm afraid
Nothing in particular Place is dated
The attractive atmosphere linked with the helpfulness of the staff and reasonably priced 'extras' led me to feel I was in a more expensive hotel than I would normally choose for an overnight stay.
gym pool food was not up to standard
Food in restaurant was not value for money
Hotel was ok overall, but evening meal was not particularly good considering the price also my cooked breakfast in the morning came swimming in fat.
clean and comfy , good location , friendly
the leisure facilities
nice pool and gym the bed was very squeaky, when i raised this with staff they just laughed...never been one for sharing my bed with sooty and sweep! Restaurant stuff were rude and ignorant, the fact that i was in jeans clearly meant that i wasn't good enough for their 'posh' restaurant. avoid at all costs...
Comfortable accomodation Meal in main resteraunt considered very expensive for small portions served. I did not enjoy or finish the meal and personnally would have preferred some homecooking options such as steak pie etc..
The size of the room was brilliant and very clean, breakfast was also very good, quality of the food was excellent
The staff in this hotel were absolutely excellent, dinner was superb Room quaint, very clean but pretty basic
Good sized rooms. Good food. Friendly staff
Dinner was excelent and room was very comfortable. Staff very attentive and helpful Small TV only having terrestrial chanels
There was no shaver socket, only 1 hand towel and 1 bath towel for 2 people, no glasses, no hairdrier, just 1 teabag each and breakfast was only just adequate. Not at all good value for money.
convenient for the purpose of my trip at a reasonably good price, especially with the breakfast which was excellent value No lift - to get to bedroom I had to lug bags up the stairs 2 floors. Doors were not marked - difficult to know where toilets/conference room were from bedroom. Not told where to go for breakfast.
Beautiful setting Noise control and inability to control guests behaviour. Cold water when I arrived because I assume all used up the wedding guests. Reception not very welcoming.
The breakfast 1No toilet rolls2No heating during very cold snap3Poor room standard
Friendly, attentive & efficient staff, excellent food, good location Bathroom needed some updating and re-organising all other aspects of accommodation well up to good standard
Very friendly welcome, and a change of room was no problem. Good food. A nice mix of old and contemporary.
