About Disney Cruise Line

For a family-oriented experience, the Disney Cruise Line is hard to beat. Its four ships are proud to wave the Disney flag, and offer all the magic and adventure that come with the name. Disney cruises, which follow a number of routes around the Caribbean and Baja Peninsula, are squarely targeted at the family market, and are perfect for kids - whether young or just young at heart. These voyages are short - a maximum of 7 nights - and usually depart from Port Canaveral, a short hop from Mickey's home in Orlando, Florida. The journeys visit different areas in the Caribbean: the Bahamas is a popular destination, and various ships also drop anchor at Cozumel, Mexico, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Falmouth, Jamaica. Shore excursions (known as Port Adventures) include adventurous activities like snorkeling, horseback riding, and zip-lining through the jungle. In Nassau, Bahamas, kids will even get the chance to swim with dolphins. All Caribbean journeys have one stop in common, though: they always dock at Castaway Cay, Disney's privately-owned 1,000-acre island. There are several beaches to enjoy, and Disney characters are in attendance for meet and greet sessions. Snorkeling, parasailing and feeding stingrays are among the excursions on offer. The island is largely undeveloped, so its lush tropical greenery is the perfect setting to live out Robinson Crusoe fantasies.

Disney's ships do not offer casinos, as the onboard atmosphere is decidedly family-friendly. The enchanting Broadway-quality shows are based on Disney musicals, and the pool areas have plenty to offer kids, with a 200-ft Mickey water slide and a sprinkler tub for the youngest visitors. Although prices don't vary much between the four ships, there is something to recommend the two flagships, Dream and Fantasy: passengers can enjoy a wild ride on the AquaDuck, the world's only onboard water coaster. Mom and Dad can escape by heading to the adults-only spa and the "After Hours" area, featuring a sports pub and dance club, among other entertainment. There are plenty of activities to keep kids and teens entertained, and family groups are offered two-way radios when they board, so it's easy to stay in touch. Youngsters from 3 months to 17 years will have something to keep them busy, making a Disney cruise the ideal choice for a family vacation.

Disney's staterooms are another example of the family-friendly design. Even the standard cabins are more spacious than many other cruise lines, and all cabins can hold four people, through thoughtful use of fold-out furniture. Most staterooms have bathtubs and toilets in separate rooms, which should keep family disputes to a minimum. The cabins are full of magic for the kids, with hidden Disney artwork dotted around the room. Most enchanting of all is the Magic Porthole, a cleverly-disguised LCD screen which shows Disney characters and the occasional pirate ship outside the cabins. This thoughtful touch adds an exciting hint of magic to inside cabins, meaning that every stateroom on the ship gets a view for the kids to admire.

The oldest ship in the fleet, Disney Magic, celebrated its maiden voyage in 1998, while the most recent, Disney Fantasy, dates back to 2011. All four ships offer a number of different cabin choices, including deluxe suites with walk-in closets, a wet bar and rain showers. The decor on the ships is classy, with secret Disney touches that passengers might not notice at first glance. Onboard restaurants offer different cuisine options, including French, Italian and Caribbean. If they need a break, Mom and Dad can also escape to an adults-only restaurant, safe in the knowledge that the little ones are in the experienced hands of Disney professionals.

Cruise Ships of Disney Cruise Line

Disney Dream

Part of the Disney Cruise fleet, Disney Dream promises a magical adventure on the high seas. Built in 2011, the 1,115-ft ship can accommodate a total of 4,000 passengers, with a crew of 1,458 over 14 passenger decks.

Disney Dream offers short, three or four-night cruises to the Bahamas. Cruises begin in Orlando and visit Nassau, stopping off at Disney's privately-owned Castaway Cay Island on the way back to Florida.

As one might expect, a voyage on Disney Dream is all about the entertainment. Passengers can watch Broadway-standard live shows in the Walt Disney Theatre and first-run Disney movies. There's plenty to keep the kids happy, including the Oceaneer Club with a Star Wars-themed play space. The ship has three pools, one of which is adults-only, and 14 dining options, including fine dining, cafes, and room service. Disney characters can sometimes be seen wandering the decks, adding a touch of magic to the voyage.

Disney Dream has 199 outside cabins and 150 inside cabins. 31 of the cabins are wheelchair-accessible. The finest suites include a whirlpool tub, wet bar and two bathrooms with rain shower, and all staterooms come equipped with a flat screen TV, refrigerator, full-length mirror, and individual climate control, plus hidden Disney decor surprises for the kids!

Disney Fantasy

The 130,000-ton Disney Fantasy is the perfect setting for bringing kids' dreams to life. Ideal for families, this ship, which can carry up to 3,950 passengers, has plenty on offer to keep adults and kids happy cruising around the Caribbean. There are several routes available on Disney Fantasy, all starting and ending in Port Canaveral, near Mickey Mouse's home in Orlando. Choose different options for seven nights of fun, sailing around the Caribbean.

Disney Fantasy offers both Eastern and Western Caribbean routes, the former visiting St. Maarten and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the latter stopping in Cozumel, Mexico, and Falmouth, Jamaica. Before returning to Florida, all routes drop anchor at Castaway Cay, Disney's privately-owned island, which offers 1,000 acres of barely-developed natural splendor where passengers can enjoy re-enacting their favorite Pirates of the Caribbean moments.

Disney Fantasy has 150 inside cabins and 199 outside cabins. 13 cabins are wheelchair-accessible. The Standard Staterooms can sleep up to four guests, and come equipped with 22" LCD flat screen TV, full-length mirror, refrigerator, safe, hairdryer and individual climate control. A privacy curtain can divide the room in two, making it ideal for family groups. The exciting Magic Porthole is a cleverly disguised LCD monitor through which guests might see a Disney character or a pirate ship pass by.

While adults relax in the child-free spa or adults-only pool, the kids can enjoy awesome entertainment, including wild rides on the AquaDuck, the first-ever "water coaster" built on a ship. There are also live Disney musical performances, fireworks displays at night, shops and decadent dining options for a family cruise with something for every age.
