Pros: Lovely setting, friendly helpful staff, comfortable room, excellent food and beer. Everything was perfect.
My only regret with this hotel was my stay was too short. This was my first trip to Europe. A mother/daughter trip to my Mother's home town. The hotel and everyone there is extremely friendly. I wish I would have gotten the girl's name who worked in the office. She was always, always there night and day for anything we needed help with. Our first night there we had dinner, I had the rib eye steak which was tender and delicious. My daughter had the mussels which were served with a spoon we found out why with the first taste of the broth. Our room was in the newer section which did require walking up stairs but there were not that many. There is a great court yard with tables and chairs and lavender plants on the tables. Anyone who wants to experience what I feel is a true English pub will find it here. Wonderful friendly people both customers and the staff. I read reviews about the noise from the pub and never heard a bit. Absolutely no problem sleeping at night the rooms have the softest beds with nice clean sheets and great comforters. The Inn in centrally located with shops and restaurants within walking distance. Many are good but none matched those mussels!! I stayed in Paris before coming to The Globe and in London after. Nothing came close to the relaxing time we had at The Globe. My intention is to return next year for an extended stay. This town is immaculate just like the inn. There is a wonderful walking path called I believe the Goat Path beautiful full of wild flowers. My suggestion is that you review the town on You Tube to see how wonderful it is then pick The Globe to stay in if you want to have a terrific, relaxing time.
Pros: Everything was wonderful. The staff went out of their way to provide anything we needed. We blew a fuse using our hair dryer and within minutes they fixed it. We stayed in the new section where there are stairs and the took our bags up and down.
Cons: Nothing. The food was excellent, the service was amazing, and the pub was warm and friendly. The room was large, soft beds, huge bathroom with double sinks and lost of space for all the items two women need and perfectly clean.
When presented with our hotel bill at checkout on 20th August my wife noticed that a charge for a breakfast had been omitted from the bill total. She then tried to settle the 317 pounds bill with an American Bankamerica Visa card but the desk staff were unable to process her card for an unexplained reason. I also offered my own Bankamerica Visa card and also a Citibank Mastercard. Neither could be processed. The only suggestion the desk clerk offered was advice to my wife to go and find a local ATM and draw out cash (at her expense and inconvenience)to settle the bill which she then went off to do. While she was finding an ATM I offered my American Express card as another alternative and this card was processed and the bill settled. While this was happening the bar manager behind the front desk was more interested in sorting out a printer problem than helping his colleague aid us visitors to settle our bill using our credit cards. This problem was especially annoying given that (a) the staff seemed completely unable (and unwilling) to find a way to solve the problem and (b) the omitted breakfast charge remained on our bill through all this nonsense and(c) after that day my wife and I used the same cards hundreds of times in other British, Greek and French establishments of various sizes over a five week period without one hitch. I find it amazing that in 2013 an hotel seems to be using previous century automation and that front office staff lack the knowledge and experience to complete a simple transaction and solve what should not be a problem.
Cons: At checkout my wife tried to settle the bill with an American Bankamerica Visa card but the staff were unable to process her card for an unexplained reason. I also offered my own Bankamerica Visa card + a Citibank Mastercard. Neither could be processed.
