Friendly staff, beautiful room, cable TV, plenty of tea and coffee. Fantastic Cooked breakfast. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.
Need a car to access hotel & local amenities.
breakfast and friendly staff
Charming, comfortable and spotlessly clean rooms. a warm and friendly welcome. a really personal experience and a breath of fresh air from a chain hotel. None
Rated as 4* which was reflected in our experience, quiet, relaxing, comfortable, excellent breakfast served at customers requested time.
A totally excellent hotel, super room, lovely location and the best breakfast by far! Friendly and helpful staff. Recommend it to everyone. There are no bad points.
Clean,and very welcoming
Service was excellent, food excellent, the owers excellent.the peace and quite was out of this world,so if this is what you want this is the place to stay.
fantastic customer service, very clean and comfortable rooms brilliant home cooked breakfast would very much reccommend.
The breakfast was very good, my room was clean and extremely spacious and the owner was very friendly, cheerful and helpful - he went out of his way to get me a taxi to take me for my evening meal. I had a very comfortable night and would recommend Homelye Farm Courtyards. It was also very good value for money.
We had a superiour double room and it was fab, it was like having a small apartment to ourselves. The room was clean and well presented with everthing we needed. Staff were friendly. Breakfast was great with a really good selection to choose from. There was a large car park so parking is not a problem. Was not able to spend more time there.
To much road noise
It was an excellent place to explore historic Thaxted from whence my mother and her family came. The restaurant menu was a bit restricted for someone on a renal diet.
Location to my business
Excellent staff. Very attentive. Good size comfortable room. No food after 9:00pm. Room too hot even with window wide open.
Friendly and very helpful staff. The relaxed atmosphere in the bar/dining area. The size of the double bed in room 8. The hotel is situated on the main road through the village which got noisy quite early in the morning.
not much really room very cramped poor breakfast arrangements
Very friendly welcoming staff, excellent food and good ambience
the atmosphere, the people where very nice.rooms were exellent, also the pub.and the town was nice
the room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was very nice
Only one-night stay - as we had wedding to go to nearby on the Saturday evening - but found it to be a pleasant, friendly hotel to stay in. No
Almost nothing The staff, the noise in the room
OK facilities. Smell in bathroom (room 218); location and traffic noise not wonderful.
location good, well preserved old building
The general old world appearance and decor none
Staff are excellent. Oldest hotel in England. Quaint. Excellent Restaurant. Excellent Bathroom and lots hot water. No smoking rooms were all in modern extension not the historic building and the bedroom decor was tired. TV did not work properly.
Staff were very friendly and helpful
the old atmosphere
was there one night only , room was warm which was good. breakfast was too expensive.
The total service was excellent.
Not Much to like. Karoke on a Sunday night until about 1am on Monday morning. Could not park my car, could not get to my room, could not get to sleep.
Helpfulness of the staff in providing a heater for my room, breakfast was good Room a little chilly - particularly the ensuite
The lady on reception was very good During the evenining the guy behind the bar obviously had a problem about something, we heard him swearing then he went outside and had 2 cigarettes. Later that evening the bar was very busy and the same guy said he could not serve me because there were no glasses. I stood there waiting, he then said to me why are you staring at me I have already told you I have np glasses. Another member of staff came over and served me, no problems. He spoilt was was a good stay at the Bull.
Very relaxed atmosphere Noisy disco (?)
Staff were really helpful and friendly- great breakfast options :) Picky yes, but I would have liked a proper shower. Couldn't get the attachment on the bath to a decent temperature.
Central location in small town. Very quaint. Staff very helpful when asked for local advice on shopping and transport on to a wedding we were attending nearby -we asked about taxis and within a couple of minutes Chris came back and said taxi booked and would collect us from back door car park. Also said no problem for us to sit and have coffee while we waited.
Good food and excellant service.
clean and comfortable room, nice pub downstairs I hit my head quite painfully. But that was my own fault ;)
The food was terrific, great value for money, lovely location, and contrary to previous comments - there is a car park! Some staff were V.unfriendly, bathrooms dated with no shower curtain and no frosted glass/curtains over window!
the staff were great and great food we were quoted £39 online but at check out payed £55
Relaxing, good facilities and standard of hotel.
Excellent facilities, well laid out room Had to ask for a remote for TV, but was supplied very promptly
Sky sports in the room Well kept room Well kept hotel Nice surroundings They could have been a bar menu
very relaxing and enjoyable not enough time to do a lot more in the time we spemt there
At 1:45 am the radiator in the room woke us up making such a loud drilling noise for about 20 minutes. The morning breakfast was not very nice the beacon and sausages were over cooked and bland and we had to serch for someone to top our coffee up
very polite and coutious staff. Room cleanliness bar food cold be improved.
The hotel staff. We were impressed by the check-in staff on reception, the evening duty manager & service staff at breakfast. All were welcoming, helpful, charming and very well trained. Proximity to the event we were attending at Layer Marney Tower.
The facility and the faculties were awesome . Nothing
Food in resturant Busy with corporate event all weekend
Have stayed several times, it is a suitable location for my requirements Could do with a fridge in the room
Quick service Bathroom decor is a little dated and te location isnt highlighted too well in the surrounding area
It was comfortable and warm. It was extremely noisey on a Monday evening because of a regular band practice. No one was made aware of this. It was so loud that you couldn't stay in your room because of the noise and vibration.
Well, It is the first time I live in a hotel with almost 500 years history. The room is a little small...
Price, breakfast Noise
The old fashioned style and age of the surroundings. The Ghost waking us up.
It's location, it is on the high street and could not possibly be any closer to town even if they tried! Nothing
There was no hot water in the shower
Nice Helpful Staff, nice clean enviroment Menu choise a bit limited,
Location Room over the High Street, too much noise!
the decor of rooms noise outside at night
Everything the staff were lovely and polite as was the cleaners the room was nice clean and tidy
service and breakfast were lovely bedrooms needed redecorating..
There was nothing I liked about the hotel it was unclean and disgusting.
We were going to a wedding at the castle so the location was perfect. Plus having the bar next door for food & drink worked well. We thought the hotel was way over priced for the size & comfort of the room.
This Hotel is situated within easy walking distance of a very popular Wedding Venue which was the pupose of our stay. Check in was simple, we stayed in room number 2 which overlooked the road & houses opposite so there was some traffic noise. It was clean, had a sink in the corner & a full length mirror. The shower room was clean & functional though the carpet was a bit threadbare. We found the included continental breakfast of cereal, juice, tea/coffee, toast & preserves ample. should you be extra hungry then the full English did look good but will cost an extra £6. All in all it served it's purpose. The only reccommendation we would make is TAKE A TORCH as there is no street lighting for the walk back & it was pitch black! Thread bare carpet in bathroom would not cost much to replace with some Vinyl Cusion floor.
The room was pleasantly peaceful, well-maintained and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful.
Good camra pub with very friendly staff and owner. Good breakfast. Bed was most uncomfortable & lumpy !
The friendliness of the manager and the location of hotel were excellent
Worst hotel I have stayed in, please avoid. Room was filthy, bed very uncomfortable, shower fittings hanging off the wall. I do not usually write reviews, but please avoid.
Nice and quiet, friendly area Bathroom a bit small
Was treated with very good maner room was nice overall very good value None
Landlord was very friendly and helpful - breakfast was amazing - delightfully offbeat but wonderful experience - would recommend to anyone who was open to something a bit different. Room was a tad small by Australian standards but not by English ones. Linen and towels were clean as was room.
Dirty , room lacked essentials, very grotty place as a whole Dirty room lacked essentials very grotty place
The landlord was very friendly and made me most welcome. The room was not particularly clean. I did not feel it had been properly prepared; little things like the toilet roll only being about a quarter left. The shower was also barely better than a trickle
The friendly atmosphere and and good quality breakfast.
comfort and friendliness. decor a bit jaded in bedrooms
very large comfortable room
The old worlde feel about the building and yet easy to park car there and just a couple of miles down the road the town of Sudbury None
a very comfortable stay. good food, good position The drink prices were very high
Very good for the price
Excellent hotel, could not believe the size of our room or should I say suite. Very olde worlde which we do love, four poster bed (very romantic), large bathroom, little hamper with tea/coffee etc inside! The suite had everything we could wish for and more. Only bad point I can really say is that the televisions need to be more modern and slightly bigger as it was hard to view the tv from the four poster bed, but was it a problem...NO Not at all.
the authenticity of the venue & made to feel very welcome somewhat slow service for both evening meal & breakfst
polite staff. Hotel and area very picturesque. Noisy as there was a wedding going on. Music could be heard everywhere in the hotel and the bass could be heard in our room.
Good price - very comfy bed
The friendly atmosphere, the breakfast, and the fact that nothing was too much trouble for the owner.
The proprietors and staff were very friendly and helpful. Made you feel very welcome. The busy carpets!
Very proffessional and personal service, was made very welcome.
Friendly atmosphere, comfortable, good service and food None
I would recommend Harwood to anyone wanting a relaxed, enjoyable stay with wonderful welcome and very supportive hosts. The food was first class.
warm, friendly hosts who could not do enough for us, spotless rooms and relaxed atmosphere n/a
Very nice B&B very close to Stansted Airport with friendly helpful staff and a fabulous full English breakfast. Set in a pretty village with village green and duck pond! Lots of restaurants nearby for dinner - spoilt for choice.
Very good breakfast. Owners are very helpful. Rooms are clean and comfortable.
Lovely house with seperate entrance to rooms being able to come and go as you pleased. Extremely friendly helpful staff- very child friendly. Amazing cooked breakfast. Lovely large garden and ability to check in early was extremely helpful. Very comfy beds and extremely quiet- a great nights sleep!
It was a lovely guest house with character, a lovely garden delicious breakfast, and clean rooms
Staff were very friendly and the room was extremely comfortable and very good value for money. Several items on the food menu were unavailable.
Comfortable bed Poor full English breakfast. Looking ahead to the end of this more-than-4- questions review I notice that you entreat us not to make any complaints. Why include this question which asks if there is anything we did not like about the hotel???
Check in/out efficient. Breakfast not included in room rate. Directions in confirmation not precise as car park diffficult to locate,
Nice friendly bar, comfortable and well-appointed room.
Happy people. I was told by you to book car parking space a week ahead. Waste of time and phoe-call. If I want to stay at a particular Hotel, why should an agency be involved. I do not like it!
Location was good - car parking adequate -Staff friendly and helpful Management is new and inexperienced. My booking stressed we wanted a twin room - we got a double and Management inferred it was my or your fault -not theirs ! . Would not recommend hotel until another 6 months has gone by when Management will , hopefully , have learned from their mistakes
It was the most convenient hotel I could find for the venue of the wedding I was going to. It also had extended bar hours for guests & a helpful night porter. The breakfasts weren't that special and I wouldn't call a choice of either smoked salmon & scrambled eggs or baked beans on toast a "full English"!
The queit and privacy of the rooms. The lunch time meal we had purchased was below our expectations.
The lobby was awesome and the staff were friendly.
Very good food in the resaurant The entrance to the bedroom building is in very poor condition
The welcome of the staff I was made to feel welcome in all areas, and you felt the staff enjoyed their role rather than just being at work.
Very pleasant stay albeit for one night only. Quiet location which was impressive.
room size and ease of access to colchester utd football ground(taxi £10) breakfast is a set price £13.95 alittle bit out of most peoples range
Very nice breakfast. Charges for internet, it should be wireless and provided for free.
The lovely breakfasts Nothing
Helpfull staff Bathroom not really clean , specifically the bathroom floor was dirty on arrival
After a long journey in the fog, it was lovely to have room service meal (from a well-mannered and lively steward), rest, relax and watch the rugby on tv! N/A
The staff were really frendly. The breakfast had a nice variety and tasted very good N/A
Facilities and cleanliness of hotel. Ability to hear Essex girl antics in adjoining room
The gentleman was very helpful at reception-went out of his way to assist me.
We booked into The Plough Inn because we were over in Newmarket for the racing and wanted to stay somewhere that looked welcoming and traditional, and we found that the rooms were large and comfortable, the breakfast was a full traditional English with locally sourced produce that was brilliant, and we booked into the restaurant for our evening meal the night before and had an excellent meal with first class, friendly service.
I loved the location set in the countryside. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was really nice. Liked the decoration in pub and atmosphere. The temperature was too hot in the hallway were the rooms to stay were. In the shower there were other peoples hair stuck on the wall where it hadn't been cleaned properly. Bed wasn't that comfortable. Thought it was quite expensive to stay for the room and facilities we got. Would say a price of 60 per night is alot more realistic than 85 per night. This was because the room was very small and ensuite very small. Travel inns are bigger and cheaper.
Everything was really nice. The staff very helpful and polite Nothing. It was all very good
The staff were very friendly and the room was clean and comfortable.the views all around the hotel were of uninterrupted countryside
It was a lovely place to stay in peaceful surroundings and with nice views. The owners were welcoming and friendly and the restaurant menu was varied and to a very high standard. We could not fault our stay and would certainly stay there again.
Fantastic location with excellent views Price wise it did not compare well with comparable B & Bs. Shou be around £50
Friendly and welcoming atmosphere
cleanliness and pleasant staff
the food was great, the staff were great, The place was relaxing. Would go and stay again.
The spaciousness of the accommodation for three people was outstanding, and the fact that it was self contained suited us admirably. The welcome tray was most generous. This was maybe surpassed by the breakfast which was of "gourmet" standard. Beautiful house, garden and village. Our only misgiving was that we were not able to stay longer.
Excellent food, good decor , helpful staff
I liked the walled garden and the food was of a high quality We had one robe, one bath sheet but there were two of us! The person who showed us to our room noted this fact but did nothing to rectify it - although this is a very small thing to comment on!
What a suoer hotel. Truly relaxing, great food, dinner and breakfast. Friendly helpful staff. Geat views. A must if you are in the area.
the service was excellent , the hotel comfortable and well placed and the food was good
very comfortable room/bathroom - with space the bar furniture could do with being reorganised
The staff were extremely approachable, friendly, kind and nothing was too much trouble. Thr room was spacious and clean. There was a relaxed and calm atmosphere to the hotel and especially the room. Very stylish decor which included classy and tasteful furniture. The food was exceptional. I have sat here for almost an hour and I can honestly say I can't find a fault with the hotel, room, food, staff or location.
everything, particularly the staff
Great location. Lots of character
Fantastic food - especially the 3 course breakfast Room was modern and clean - particularly liked the bathroom
This is not a hotel but a busy noisy bar and restaurant. Anyone wanting a quiet weekend should be warned not to book. A rock concert on the green was not known about by the staff and should also have been warned about. Traffic noise. Hot stuffy room with local drunks outside until 12pm.Pictures suggest idyllic rural setting. Reality on edge off two roads. The booking system for breakfast and paper did not seem to work.
location bathroom/shower in a poor state. food expensive
Leaving it in the morning! No wine list, no choice of red wine, limited menu, unattentive staff, 'cold' decor, tables not laid correctly, no offer of breakfast in the morning, no soap in the bathroom, noise from the road.
Clean rooms. Location close to Stansted Airport and free parking. poor sound insulation between rooms - rooms and corridors were noisy very early in morning with people leaving for early flights
People there were so friendly and in the end of the day that's what matters
I think it´s a confortable and quiet hotel close to Stanted airport. I would like that the hotel had wi-ffi inside rooms.
Perfectly located for departures from Stansted when you do not want to start your journey from home in the early hours. Some traffic noise but we knew that was possible when we booked. Convenience was the point of our stay & economy of parking whilst abroad.
Airport shuttle bus service for £4 per person Cracked sink and Toilet Control broken in the bathroom very bad image. Reported to reception
i had a hotel which would be not far from Stansted airport and together near London, as i had my dad visiting me. before he left England i wanted to take him to show London. hotel location was perfect for what we wanted to do. i liked the staff -all young and very friendly people. food in hotel restaurant was delicious. and me, my dad and my so felt like at home.
Very close to Stansted airport with shuttle service (fee), so good when you have to catch an early plane.
arrived late left very early but liked the easy parking and access to airport
There was a lot of mould around the bath which needs resealing
Rooms were lovely Having boked into our room , we went down for dinner ,waited to be called in for the sitting , only to be told that the resturant staff did not know that were were staying ??? 20 tables empty , but we had to go back to reception to sort it out. No one said sorry !!! we were made to feel very small ! staff very snobish .
Good room, good food, attentive staff. Very enjoyable.
Very attractive and characterful hotel; comfortable and friendly; excellent service.
Very friendly bar staff There was no hot water in my room. This was mentioned to the receptionist who said that they were having problems. Not the answer I expected!!!
The fact that the menu says 24 hours room service available but it was only true for a very limited choice of meals.
the hotel has its own charm and has very professional staff even some at a young age! parking away over the road was not secured ie gates, camera etc
The service of the staff was excellent. The position in the town was good. The unasked for free upgrade was fantastic. The resturant first class. Look forward to staying there again.
The idea was to have a break from the real world and it managed to just that for us!! It wasn't long enough!!!
The idea of staying in such an old timbered building, however reconstructed it may be. I thought the dinner menu was not varied enough, though the quality of the cooking was pretty good.
