A traditional Japanese ryokan surrounded by the warmth of wood and offering a relaxing atmosphere with the River Kuma running just beside. Please enjoy seasonally changing scenery, and relax and forget about daily.
Pros: This is an historic property, in a beautiful old building with real wood floors, appointments and furniture. Okami (wife of owner) was very welcoming and accommodating.
Cons: Men's onsen in afternoon could have been larger. No outdoor onsens.
Pros: Good onsen, good view, big room, good location, nice and friendly staff, prompt response by email, understanding and helpful, good breakfast, I like the tofu very much
Pros: This ryokan accommodation was absolutely amazing. We got lost on our way from the station and the owner came to fetch us at the station 21.30 at night! They even took us back the next morning. It was the most amazing place and the Japanese breakfast was as delicious as it was beautifully presented. The owner and staff really went the extra mile to make our visit one of the highlights of our Japan trip! I cannot recommend it highly enough!
Pros: Really amazing experience. Delicious food- if you want a true ryokan night away this is the destination.
Pros: We loved the authentic riokan experience: original steaming hot onsens, the beautiful Japanese garden, the traditional panels and decor, the tatami mats, the hand made tofu for breakfast and so on. We also appreciated Satomi's vibrant and engaging personality. She happily addressed our questions and even drove us to the train station. A wonderful hostess.
Cons: Nothing. But one must be prepared for the reality of a riokan experience!
Pros: A historical buildings compound with stunning river view. The onsen water is so good and even drinkable. Food is excellent as usual. Actually, you can choose different meal for dinner by paying some more, especially if you want to stay for more than a night.
Cons: I stayed in the same room as I did last year. It was obviously aged and worn in some places. But it was still a lovely and comfortable place.
Pros: This is a traditional, charming ryokan. You will feel as if you have step back in time. The service is friendly and helpful.
Cons: We had a bug in the room. This is not surprising because the ryokan is next to a river. The owner does spray the establishment once a month. They were super helpful in getting the insect out. Do not let this deter your booking with this ryokan. I am sure our experience is once in a million.
Pros: Staff were friendly & always welcoming
Cons: If onsen bigger & outdoor would be perfect
Pros: Room was lovely, service was warm and welcoming, classic style, Onsen water left my skin so soft! Great location, generous breakfast, staff kind and helpful with some English
Cons: No complaints. The hotel is old and sometimes show it's age, but usually with charm and grace.
With a stay at Hitoyoshi Mori no Hall Lady's Inn – Caters to Women in Hitoyoshi, you'll be just steps from Hitoyoshi Onsen and Yuyama Onsen. Featured amenities include coffee/tea in a common area, microwave in a common area, and refrigerator in a common area. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: This is an amazing hotel running by a local couple. To be honest, I prefer to call it a home for the female tourists rather a hotel. The couple is so kind and considerate to me providing a free ride to the remote Natsume Yuujinchou spots. They also drove me to the Hitoyoshi IC bus stop after checking out which is quite convenient to my trip. The location is close to the main train station (5 minutes walk distance ). The room and the shared dining room, toilet, shower room are clean and neat. The breakfast prepared the lady owner is awesome. The hotel also provides free coupon to a hot spring nearby. I will stay in this hotel again definitely if I revisit Hitoyoshi. This is a hotel with my high recommendation to all female tourists. 家一般的旅店，强烈推荐给女性朋友。
Pros: Big and comfortable room, the service is terrific good!
Cons: Need to climb up stair with luggage, it is understandable though.
Pros: Conveniently located, a very easy 2-3 minute walk from the JR station. There are convenience stores and restaurants within the area. Most of the main attractions in Hitoyoshi are located within walking distance. The owners are absolutely wonderful people and are very friendly and helpful, going out of their way to help me access certain locations that I couldn't reach easily by public transport by driving me personally, and giving me recommendations for restaurants and attractions in the area. The breakfast was also delicious, and they provided me with a free coupon for one of the baths nearby. The room is cleaned daily and they provide towels and most toiletries for free as well. They get quite a lot of foreign visitors staying here, so they can communicate well using English.
Pros: The hosts were extremely hospitable and generous. They drove us around for sightseeing and they cleaned the accommodation everyday. The extra touches - like the cute pajamas, the scented body wash, the complementary drinks - made this an amazing place to stay. There is a very homey feeling to Morino Hall, especially because it's in the quaint town of Hitoyoshi. The rooms are spacious and comfortable - definitely worth the money. I would love to stay here again if given the chance.
Cons: It would've been great if there was an iron.
Pros: Everthing is excellent.Good location, only 3-5minutes away the station. Delicious breakfast and nice service. I arrived at 9.30pm. and they waited for me, which was really nice. Grandpa also drives me to Natsume’s friend book scenes. Anyway, fantastic!
Pros: Hitoyoshi Morinohall is a lovely place to stay if you're travelling around the area. It's just a short walk from the station and there are a couple convenience stores and a coin laundry nearby. The owners are friendly and kind, and went above and beyond my expectations. They really made me feel welcome and I wouldn't have been able to see some of the things I did without their help. The shared living space including the shower and toilets are cleaned daily and the rooms are comfortable (with many electrical outlets in case you have a lot to charge like I did).
Cons: There wasn't anything that I didn't like!
Pros: The location of Morinohall Ladies Inn is perfect. The couple who live on the premise couldn't have been friendlier and more caring. It felt like we were visiting family. Our room was comfortable. We were given coupons to visit the public onsen a few minutes walk away. It was the hottest we experienced in Japan (42º C). Since we wanted to have sushi that night they recommended a place nearby that was very local. Nothing was in English, even the numerals on the menu.
Cons: The weather ! It rained the whole time and even though Hitoyoshi is a perfect town to cycle around we will have to have that fun the next visit.
Pros: Very helpful and kind! We were moved by the hospitality. (When we checked out in the morning there was big rain, the owner of the hotel went to the station himself to ask about the latest train information. Luckily there were trains just a little bit late. Then sent us to the station.) Easy to find. 5 minutes walk from the train station. Had a happy time there. No communication problem. Totally exceeded expectation. Perfect place for holiday in Hitoyoshi! Have been to Japan many times. This was the best place to stay! Thanks again to the hosts! Wish we meet again.

Located in Nishimorokata, GOKURAKU ONSEN TAKUMI NO YADO is within a 10-minute drive of Ojibaru Park and Sano Shrine. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: - the hosts were absolutely lovely, very warm and inviting, facilities were great, gave you a real insight into the Ryokan world and an onsen experience. All very clean and comfortable.
Cons: - as much as I appreciated the authenticity with everything in Japanese, it may be helpful to translate information booklet and restaurant menu to assist international guests.
Pros: The Onsen is particularly great for the quality of the water and the excellence of the bathing installations.
Pros: Everything was amazing. The ladies there were delightful and exceedingly polite as ever, the baths were wonderful and the food was incredible. So happy to have been able to come back here.
Pros: The onsen is great (gender separated), with a sauna and 4 different baths (cold to scalding) including an open-air hot sulfur bath which you can enjoy until 10pm. The staff is very nice, and we really enjoyed their smiles and kindness. Be aware that no one speaks english and all the information is in Japanese (including the menus). The lady who welcomed us luckily used a translator so we could still communicate a bit. The countryside around is very nice and peaceful. Breakfast is good (japanese breakfast).
Cons: The place boasts free wifi but it was not working at all when we were there, and NTT Docomo 3G roaming was not available there either: we felt a bit remote, which may be good, but also a little cumbersome when you are trying to plan your day or to get the GPS direction to the nearest ATM... We had dinner at the restaurant, the food is a bit pricey and not as excellent as what we tasted in Aso mountains, but still fairly good.
Pros: Served with vegetables of the season. Choice of ingredients and taste were healthy and well proportioned. Volume of food and salt were well balanced. You can feel the taste of the ingredients!
Cons: Wish we can have an indoor bathroom.
Pros: The staff were really nice. The room was great. The food at the restaurant was delicious. The private onsen was excellent and the public onsen/bathroom was great with 4 baths including an outdoor one. Keep in mind that it's a little remote and slightly pricey but you definitely get what you pay for.
Pros: We are probably not the best to judge how authentic a japanese ryokan is but this is probably the most unfiltered japanese experience that we made on our journey. The rooms were great, food was delicious, the onsen was just amazing and the staff was really nice! However I recommend everyone considering a stay to at least learn some japanese basics. But the staff speaks some english and together with our (very rudimentary) japanese we were able to figure out everything!

Featured amenities include luggage storage, a safe deposit box at the front desk, and an elevator. A train station pick-up service is provided at no charge, and free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The room is spacious with a magnificent view. Floor heating in the washing room was so tendering. As I would like to have a beef BBQ , I only have breakfast in this Hotel and it was good. The room provided with a safe and an air purifier. Since it was not near to the rail or bus station, the Hotel was so kind to drive me to the station when I checked out.
Cons: I accommodated one night each in this and the adjacent hotel. The facilities were far better than that with the adjacent one. Certainly, it also charged a lot more. When I checked out, the staff gave a small bag of souvenir to another guest. I don't know the reason why I got not if being I did not take dinner in the Hotel.
Pros: Perfect service including the car parking. Half board included a perfect dinner and an extensive breakfast buffet.
Pros: Love the sea view and restaurants set up... nice dinning area and we are treated as VIP with attendance attend to our needs in a private room
Pros: breakfast buffet was nice. The dinner setting was also fine. It seems like it was renovated.
Cons: if they had paid attention to the finer details. we stayed in two rooms. only one had coffee. no toilet amenities except for a toothbrush. the balcony river view was nice. unfortunately, not their fault, it faces a hospital across the river.
Pros: Location is very very convenience. The fact that it is located adjacent to a swift flowing river it generates very pleasant and relaxing ambient for vacation. The onsen is superb. Meals and service are great. Decoration and layout comes with typical Japanese serenity. Going around neighboring streets you can find numerous first class eating outlet for delicious meal and for a drink. Perfect.
Pros: Located in a lovely and quiet rural town, Hitoyoshi. This place is easily the best accomodation of our family week long trip. Though it's not cheap, the services and amenities they provided are well worth the amount they charged. We arrived early and had time for a quick walk around the ryokan, along the gently flowed river which is nice and relaxing. The dinner and breakfast were delicious and in large portions. The room is spacious. The onsen bath is also fantastic, better than many places we had stayed.
Cons: Nothing, really!
Pros: Dinner is super delicious. The onsen in room is very fantastic. The staff all are very nice.
Cons: Breakfast just so so. The bed is really too small though room is very clean and comfortable.
Pros: Nice staff with good English Very nice Hot spring
Pros: Great food, good Onsen and clean
Cons: Crowded during breakfast

Pros: Nice Hot Spring Hotel. Very nice staff. We stayed in a "Japanese" room with a nice view of the river. Good airconditioning and comfortable futons on the tatami mats. The hot spring in the hotel was very nice. Not so big but the water was the perfect temperature and had a silky feel. The staff were very accomodating. We missed the morning bathing time by a few minutes, but the staff allowed us to sneak in late.
Cons: No shower in the room - had to go to first floor hot spring. No outside bath.
Pros: wonderful experience, nice people and food, big and beautiful guest room, great onsen!
Pros: Free bicycle provided！！Soy source 啊说啊gift！！soooooo nice！！
Pros: Staff very polite, the lady boss even go around during dinner to chat with guests. She smartly uses phone to translate to communicate with us. Very nice dinner provided. Must try half board.
Pros: Excellent service from the owner, who greeted us at dinner. Our waitress was very hospitable too. They don't speak much English but made every effort to treat guests. Complimentary pick-up and drop-off at the station was nice too.
Cons: Walls of the indoor bath seems a bit dirty. Fridge in our room looks antiquated.
3 minutes' drive from the Hitoyoshi Interchange and Hitoyoshi Station. Situated in a prime location, only 5 minutes' walk from downtown Hitoyoshi. Low-cost Western-style rooms with internet connections for business travelers and Japanese-style rooms for tourists are both available. Loads of fun plans to choose from!
Pros: Reading the review score we were skeptical , but pleasantly surprised. There was some refurbishing going on but as far as Ryokan experience goes this was great . Hot bath a little dated but great plus for the price ! Quiet nights sleep & in great area , feels like being in Kyoto in surrounding streets . No water views but hey when sun goes down , well you get the picture.
Cons: All good , better then we expected good size room & comfortable, all you need for sight seeing after busy day.
Pros: It was my first time to stay at a traditional ryokan, and the small touches were really lovely. They set up the futons for you and provide you with tea and sweets in your room. I also liked going to the onsite onsen. There are also a lot of eateries in the area.
Cons: It seems like they are in the process of renovating. The in-room bathrooms are showing a little age.
Pros: We should have opt for the meal. In the end, we have to walk out to a yakiniku restaurant about 10mins away from our place. It was a quiet town and we used it as a stopover for our return leg to Kumamoto—Fukuoka. And wake up early and head to the famous Unagi restaurant (http://www.uemura-unagi.com/) in Hitoyoshi for breakfast!
Pros: 1. Hospitable, warm and nice staff, informing me the upcoming carnival activity inside the city (I know before that but its good that the staff do inform) 2. Check-in time can be very late (Not many traditional Ryokan can do so) 3. Room is spacious and clean, equipped with a modern air-con 4. The onsen is a good quality one with different type of water baths available 5. Pick-up from Hitoyoshi IC / Hitoyoshi Station is available upon prior request
Cons: 1. No elevator (given this is a traditional Ryokan I cannot mark this as a con but just a reminder) 2. The TV inside room is a 15" LCD model, making the screen small compared to the large room 3. Location of the Ryokan is at the middle of the old town district, which you probably visit anyway for your day trip in Hitoyoshi, just bare in mind it is a 15-minute walk from Hitoyoshi Station to here
Cons: Cleaning service was not enough. parking lot was too small.
We urge you to come and spend slow-moving and leisurely relaxing time at our Yunomoto hot spring which was established by the first Eiden Enjuin temple in 1784.
Pros: The room is big enough to put 5 luggages
Cons: it is disappointed that we can't order dinner when we arrive, need to book in advance
Pros: The room is very small and no bathroom inside

Pros: Staffs are friendly, easy to check-in and check-out. Cleaning is asked whether it's needed if you live more than one night. Breakfast is easy to access on 2F and totally Japanese style. Rooms are very clean.
Cons: A little bit dark in the room. No central light. Price is little bit expensive (￥7020/night, breakfast included) as the hotel is in Hitoyoshi. The breakfast is in Japanese style so most of them are cold.
