Just returned home from an 8 night stay at Dene's gh. Average daily rate of $50 a bargain for services rendered as John & Hamish were punctual with answering emails before arrival & helpful during my stay as a leisure tourist. Single room with shared bathroom overlooked small garden with flowers even though it was still winter with low temperatures near the freezing mark. Bed small but comfy with nice soft comforter & extra blanket if needed. Tiny tv had 5 channels with bbc & skytv providing plenty of local news & sports coverage. Sink in room quite functional & cleaned daily with upstairs shower room having adjustable spray & nice temperature adjustments. Unfortunately the drain was slow & water at bottom of small shower stall took a few minutes to completely empty. No washclothes provided so bring your own! My bath & hand towels were not changed daily but guests can find clean ones if they look hard enough! Cleaning staff an issue as owner had to vacuum under bed after I discovered balls of dust resulting in hay fever alergy of itchy eyes! John mentioned that good cleaning folks hard to find in Edinburgh! As far as location the Lothian bus lines 23 & 27 run quite regularly right around the corner & take less than 10 minutes to Princes street or the Botanical gardens. Decent selection of eateries & a laundramat within 1 block of the gh. Breakfast selection was decent with good hot cookie selection of sausage, choice of cooked eggs, potatoe, bacon, toast & jams. Coffee or tea also provided.
Charming staff and a beautiful house in a convenient location. Nothing seems to be too much trouble...
breakfast, atmosphere, cleaness, very nice staff shower - one on the floor (although very clean), not a 24 hours reception
Helpfull staff who let me get on with what I need to do but where there when you needed them... Many thanks to the young lady who kept bringing me coffee. Rubbish tea making facilities
The hotel was in a charming old victorian house just north of Edinburgh city centre. The rooms were excellent value for the price, and the staff were absolutely fantastic! n/a
Free wifi. Firstly, wifi was not available in my room (although it is stated that Wifi is available in some rooms and is free of charge.) Would be nice if Wifi was extended to all rooms. Secondly, the service was not so good. I had to ask for the receipt a few times before they gave it to me.
Dene Guest House was extremely well-located in Edinburgh's New Town, about a 10 minute from the bus/tram to the airport, Princes Street (the high street of New Town) and maybe a 15 minute walk to the old city (castle, royal mile, etc.). The single room was small, as is to be expected, but very well-maintained - and there was a sink in the room, which was an unexpected luxury. All the staff were very nice and accommodating, and Simone was easy to contact in advance and afterwards by email for everything I needed. I was there an entire week and had no complaints at all.
Location was great, walking distance from the city centre but not disturbed by late night bars and clubs. Good rooms - I had a single ensuite room at the top of the building which was small but perfect for a weekend stay. My friends shared a twin room which did not have ensuite facilities but they were very comfortable and the communal bathroom was good.
Friendly staff and good breakfast.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Nice breakfast. Good value for your money.
Gorgeous room Distance from the station may be correct, but we did not know the slope, long slope down to the hotel. So you have to go up long slope to the station.
Staff friendly I had to pay before leaving. I had thought you gutys had taken my money. Please make sure I have not paid twice!!!!Thom Cross
good central location at reasonable price hotel room had not been cleaned properly - the floor was dirty, the covers on the bed had a large stain (sheets were clean), there was no soap or hairdryer as specified.
The location's not bad, it's about a fifteen minute walk from the center of Edinburgh. The staff is friendly, too. The rooms are a bit small and while I was there my shower only spewed out scolding hot water, also there were these little black bugs that crawled all around the bathroom.
good for the value.breakfast was ok.the staff were ok.the room was bit noisy because of facing to the road.the room was less clean.
Relax Guest House is located near the City Centre The room was not clean which was a shame, as I liked my stay there
We were greeted very nicely. The man who greeted us even looked up some information on the web for us and was very friendly. The man who served us breakfast was also very nice and helpful. The location was great. Very handy so we could walk everywhere we wanted to go. Nice neighbourhood too. It was a little expensive, but that may have been the going Edinburgh rate, plus it was in a nice area. The hotels were much cheaper elsewhere in Scotland.
Friendly staff, clean environment
I liked the cozy atmosphere the staff created. The internet connection was excellent. The room was not tidy, very small, people were very noisy.
Quiet and fit for purpose
The single rom was small and dark and it felt like being a servant below stairs. No natural light could get into the room. Didnt; even realise that it was a nice day outside. I agree with the comment that it is not a hotel but a guesthouse charging hotel prices, Also I had wanted to cancel but was told it was within the Fireworks season but they did not start until the night I left.
Excellent staff in reception and breakfast provision. Warm room. No hanging space in cupboards, only a metal rod attached to wall. Room was rather small.
Relaxed, friendly atmosphere at the Inverleith. Great location for all the attractions of Edinburgh & Leith. Good breakfast. Having booked back in January (& paid 1 night as a deposit), I was very suprised when without any forewarning the other 2 nights fee was taken a month BEFORE my stay! If my Credit Card had been near its limit, I could have gone into debit & incurred extra fees.
Very accessible to City
On the ball staff room "felt" cramped, partly because of basement space and access to the bathroom. It was perhaps "feeling", including getting to the room, as much as reality.
location bathroom very cramped, bar closing early
very close to the center of Edinburgh. Staff very helpful
Good bus service, not far from hotel. Close to Botanical Garden Breakfast not hot enough.
Staff were so friendly! A really cosy, relaxed atmosphere, lovely room - really well turned out with nice hot chocolate as well as tea, coffee, biscuits etc. Very accommodating when I needed to leave a bag the next day also.
Very pleasant and helpful staff. Good breakfast Very small bathroom and shower room
Exactly as expected from the reviews with great management and a good breakfest and only a 5 minute walk into th centre of Endinburgh ,
recieved a warm friendly welcome from the manageress and the bed was very comfortable the member of staff serving breakfast was not very friendly and quite brusque
The bed was really comfortable and the staff were very helpful and polite. The situation was great for access to the city and yet quiet enough to get a good night's sleep.
Good welcome, convenient location, good value, attentive service. Room was so hot we couldn't sleep well. Also very dark although this was not a big problem. Ensuite bathroom tiny.
The atmosphere were so fantastic, and the hospitality from the host were excellent. I can only recommend this for others who are going to Edingburgh
Service was absolutely brilliant not one bit
Very nice folks at the hotel. Very warm and very helpful.
Lovely staff, good location, good breakfast. No shower facilities only a tiny soap.
