Location and closeness to the Yorkshire Moors, and general comfort of the room Lack of car parking space, and the menu could have contained more options
Location,ambience,breakfast. parking a little awkward
Friendly, helpful staff, good menu with good quality of food and service.
I thought the entire staff was excellent. They were very accomodating in our change of plans. The location was excellent.
the room we had at the duke of wellington was clean and tidy and pleasantly decorated, likewise the bathroom the bar menu was not as extensive as expected, but it was november and it may have been slimmed down , being out of season but apart from that it was ok
A friendly, clean and welcomming experience, you can relax and enjoy the good beers and food or be more adventurous in the surrounding countryside,a good base for touring.
boutique style newly decorated room. food
Very clean accommodation with good quality bedding, towels etc. Good breakfast and evening meals at reasonable prices. Friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again. En suite room a little on the small side.
Friendly staff and a beautiful setting, the room was very clean and well equipted and also nicely decorated. The evening menu was a little limited.
Can't fault it, very clean throughout, welcoming, friendly and helpful staff.Nice rural location. Easily accessible to main road to the north, yet only a few minutes drive south to the beautiful Yorkshire Moors. A very relaxing stay.
The apartment was clean and large Very unchild proof, our todler was pulling wires, emptying kitchen cupboards and banging her head on the glass coffee table which had a big chip in the corner!. Very uncomfortable beds, chairs and sofa'S. You have to book the swimming pool and we weren't told this until we came to go swimming and then had to go the following day. Breakfast was very average and you had either a choice of a hot or cold drink and everywhere else offers both. Continental breakfast was past its best fruit, stale croissants, happy shopper yoghurt and cereal - nothing great at all! We were thoroughly disappointed with everything. Although the staff were friendly and the apartment was clean
We were expecting a family room but ended up with a 4 bedroomed house which was perfect for our family House wasn't ready on time. House was a little "tatty"
Location and friendliness of staff
Central location near all good restaurants and pubs and harbour - very impressed with standard of accomodation and ammenaties offered really enjoyed the private swimming pool and sauna great fun No shower, no hairdryer, plug sockets a long way from mirrors very important for getting ready to go out with friends ans family !
The helpfulness of the staff during our brief stay and there willingness to go out of there way to help us.
Generally excellent. Appts spacious and excellent facilities. Pool out of order. This was a big factor in booking as we were keen to use. Could do with a shower, even if its just over the bath.
Staff helpful and friendly rooms very clean Did feel it was a little mean not letting customers who had paid for bed & breakfast have a cereal and orange juice if they so wished without paying extra. We were not bothered but did hear other people complain to each other about it.
Centrally located, close to amenities, Quiet area Could have been cleaner, had to request tea towels at breakfast the next day, could do with higher tog duvets
Good location, pleasant staff son loved the scaletrix track available to hire
The Hotel was only a 2-star but good value for money and exceptionally clean, and the room we had was very spacious. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only fault I can find is that the shower in room 9 was not very good, the water was very slow in coming out of the taps to have a bath and the shower is not very efficient. Could do with being more powerful.
The staff were very friendlyand the room we stayed in was very clean and tidy, Altogether a very pleasant stay. Some of the corridors leading to the rooms could do with decorating as first impressions were not good, but when we arrived at the rooms themselves, they were fine.
The restaurant served superb food. The room facilities were a little dated, but great bathroom
We had a good twin room on the ground floor with outside space to sit. There was plenty of space and a good bathroom, but no shower and poor lighting. We booked two rooms, one of which was a single. That one was on the top floor and we were on the ground.
location, gardens & parking
the staff were well trained and friendly the homely feeling the hotel gave encourages me to recommend this hotel to good people
The staff were very attentive and made our stay very enjoyable. Shame about the owners attitudes, not very pleasant people. Bit of a let down
Rhe room and en suite were disappointing as was the decor of the bedroom wing.
nothing really Very cheap furniture, no pillowcases on arrival, breakfast awful
The facilities were excellent, but the upgrade was even better and the room was very homely and spacious. Nothing
the room was large enough to spread out with comfortable chairs. Access to Sky tv was good and Tea and coffee facilities were appreciated
A bed/breakfast type hotel. Accomodation ok. Far enough from the centre of Whitby to have a quiet break. 10 min walk to harbour.
The way we were left alone for our stay, knowing that the staff were available if required, it was great.
The fact it was a totally NO SMOKING hotel was great. And it was well situated and very clean, all the staff we met were very friendly, we shall definately be going back. Could have done with more parking for guest`s but not a real problem.
Very clean and comfortable accomodation. Very good, well prepared food for breakfast. Too much to eat.
The cleanliness and the freshly cooked breakfast.
We liked that it was 'non smoking' N/A
firendly staff Shower poor. No breakfast after 9.00am
the room was fab and the view breath taking liked everything
Room was nice Room outlooked onto cricket field ,we understood it would have sea view.no shelve in bathroom to put toiletries on ,and bin was to small .
Pleasant staff, homely feel, comfortable and situation to the beach and town. There was nothing to dislike
The staff were friendly, the location was good, parking was available the bed wasn't comfortable, the full English breakfast was not very big
The warm welcome on arrivel and the freindliness of evrybody . the cleanliness and the meals were delicious . overall it was an excellent weekend nothing at all
Staff very good and Hotel Situation Very small room but ok for one night
The position, right on the cliffs was great. The staff were all very friendly and helpful, and being able to bring our dog was very important to us. Room a little small
Comfortable and quiet room looked and felt as it if had been recently upgraded. Very clean with very nice bathroom and good quality towels. Quiet situation but within easy walk of town centre. Only a very small point. We asked for a sea view if possible but our room only had a side view which according to the hotel's price list should have been cheaper than what we paid. It didn't seem worth quibbling at the time as everything else was very good and we were only staying one night.
Just the right distance from town, comfortable, clean, quiet and the breakfast was perfectly cooked. The staff came over as rather cold and unfriendly. We've stayed in a three star round the corner from here previously but couldn't get in as it was fully booked [speaks volumes], that is the one we would choose to return to.
View of sea to the front and view of cricket match from the room. Loved the room and bathroom decor Bit further out of the town than I'd imagined.
clean comfortable excellent food Slight aged smell downstairs
Staff were very friendly, the room was comfortable and the breakfast was excellent
Excellent food in restaurant, well presented and prompt service.
Very enjoyable stay, friendly effecient staff. Excellent food, great location for visiting the North York Moors and James Herriot country.
Staff were nice. Cottage had lovely bed and nice facilities. Not a bad price £75 per night. No internet. Wifi would not connect to internet for anyone! Lasagna was awful and expensive. Portions were small. Sofa was like concrete. The kitchen and living area of cottage was very basic. Parking is very tight and limited.
Was a little apprehensive at first as we booked this hotel as it was the only one in the area that would allow us to stay one night only at a price that was reasonable, rather than on reviews, but we were pleasantly surprised, staff were very friendly, rooms were clean and my daughter and her boyfriend were celebrating a birthday were very impressed with the romm in the roof, very spacious, however the best thing was the food we had a evening meal which was one of the best we have had for a good while, as an ex chef am very hard to please but oh boy! fantastic food, good service and reasonable price. would stay there again. nothing
food was very good Hotel and room did not look anything like the pictures. WC did not flush, and not fixed during our 4 day stay. Would Not recommend
Although a relatively small jhotel staff were all very friendly and efficient. breakfast was superb!
the peace and quiet - good food and pleasant people
The Hotel is very well located for touring North Yorkshire. Staff are friendly and keen to please. The Hotel is well managed and brings together visitors and locals in a cosy bar lounge which we found relaxing. When the hotel is busy with meals - it is a well respected restaurant - it can be difficult parking in the spaces allocated at the front of the hotel and at the rear.
Friendliness and efficiency of the large team of staff. Good food at most times of the day. Easy-going atmosphere.
Friendly staff and relaxed atmosphere N/A
It pays to check reviews before booking and the reviews of Elford House were spot on. Expect a clean fresh room and a sparkling ensuite. The views of Whitby Abbey are a bonus. This B&B is handy to touring routes in and out of Whitby. Car parking on site is another big plus so you can leave your car and walk everywhere in Whitby (within minutes). Good location for visiting the North Yorkshire Moors and the steam railway. Good location for Staithes, Goathland, even Scarborough. Take your hiking boots!
Clean and friendly. Parking not enough for number of rooms. Bathroom very small for size of room. Continental breakfast ok. Rather expensive for just room and continental breakfast.
Nothing. Asked for a room with a view, put in the attic.Had to climb on the bed to see the view through a small window. No carpet, just a rug and lino, woodchip wallpaper very bland.Bathroom door would not close.Bathroom to small. No freeview or wifi, needed a telescope to watch T.V. No day room, breakfast rubbish Value for money nil.
Privacy and comfort, good continental breakfast provided to room.
The room was lovely and big, and it was spotlessly clean. It was a good base for experiencing Whitby. The breakfast was very very tasty and had an added bonus of being delivered to our room. The bed was a small double despite the size of the room. The exposed floor boards looked lovely but meant we were constantly disturbed by the noise of people talking in other rooms and their TV's. Our TV was also very small for the size of the room, only a problem if you wanted a night in.
Easy walk to town The Bed and the floors. The bed was very uncomfortable and the floors, while clean, were noisy. Fortunatel there was no one upstairs otherwise it would have been very noisy
The breakfast was a mini-feast! The staff were friendly and helpful, the room and facilities all very clean and tidy - would highly recommend. The walk up the hill from the centre of town!
The breakfast brought to the room is a lovely idea. Very beautifully decorated rooms too. The small double room is small! It was the only one free when we booked, but I'd say it's really only suitable for one person. No wardrobe etc etc Saying that, the staff did offer to move us to a bigger one on the last night, and all the rooms are clean and nicely presented.
Easy to find Wierd breakfast system, I much prefer to be asked what I would like rather than it being forced upon me. were are healthy eaters, full fat milk and tinned fruit isnt exactly what we were was expecting Shower/ensuite was tiny for the size of the room not a 4 star rating
The friendliness of the staff The location of the hotel is at the top af a quite substancial hill heading out from the town centre
Very hospitable, weekend parking available, good location and a filling, well cooked breakfast. Front of house lower room has noticeable noise from traffic but to be expected considering position of the room and in a house with such original features. However, would book and use again.
very friendly and breakfasts were excellent difficult to park during the week
The breakfasts were excellent very friendly management spotlessly clean and fairly priced. Good ground floor room for an elderly couple or someone with restricted movement.
Friendly, helpful staff. Great location. Wonderful breakfast
The freindly, helpfull owner. Parking is a problem and the available space, first come first served, is in a rather dirty back alley.
Very warm welcome, excellent advice about Whitby. Very good position in town, every effort made to help with parking. Very good choice and quality of breakfast. Spacious room with nice view over the park and a sitting area. Our only surprise was a lack of a towel rail in the very nicely fitted en-suite shower room.
Very friendly .. would stay here again for sure! Loved the breakfast
Very friendly, great location, very tidy, and crackin' breakfast! Ceiling a but low for me (I'm 6' 2") but I adapted.
A very warm and friendly b&B. I would definitely go back again. The booking site did not make it clear that full payment would not be taken from my credit card. This led to some confusion and embarrassment when checking out because we almost left without paying! Please, please make sure this is crystal clear on your website.
The room size and the freshly cooked breakfast. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. Close to the centre of Whitby. The bathroom was a bit small but adequate.
Breakfast was excellent - wife enjoyed salmon alternative. Bedroom window cracked and didn't fully close (November). Restaurant mentioned on sign outside but not active, but not offered in literature.
freindly staff, very helpfull, good breakfast all in all great stay the double bed seemed very small, the shower head was broken.
Good breakfast Room was very run down , no heating, unable to take a shower.
the wonderful breakfasts !!! n/a
The hotel was better kept than any other 400 year old place I have ever stayed before. Despite the bitter cold and snow outside and the fact this is a grade 2 listed building with single glazing, the bedrooms were warm and the beds very comfortable. The service and full English breakfast could only be described as excellent. A very nice stay we will be back!!
the friendlyness of the owners and staff no i have to say everything was 1st class
lovely old building. very comfortable. Contrary to other reviews we had no problem with the car park. It has 10 spaces for a ten roomed hotel. It may get tight if people have more than 1 car I suppose. only the local pub for evening meal if you didn't want to drive, and the pub's no food on Mondays.
Friendly welcome helpful staff nice village location, but still close to Whitry
Not much Quality of breakfast. Cheap brands of products used, food not very hot, instant coffee rather than fresh coffee used - a total disaster.
While not located in Whitby itself it had a pleasant walk via paddocks and bushland into Whitby, plus there was a regular bus service running till late. But the friendliness, ease and willingness to help of the family owners was great. The breakfasts were a bit too generous, and just plain good. And, it was very reasonably priced. It was a great hotel, so I have nothing to add in this area
We enjoyed the fact that it was very clean, comfortable and there was everything to make our stay very enjoyable. Also with it being away from the centre of Whitby it was very quiet with lovely views over the goft course and bay and we shall certainly consider a return visit.
Easy to book on-line. Friendly staff. Bright, clean, spacious room & en- suite. Good location. Car Park was almost full on return from town in evening
Customer service excellent as was the food and the comfort and cleanliness of the rooms
The staf were all friendly and helpful. Food (both evening meal and breakfast) wer good. Rooms 6 and 7 are over the bar area and are noisy until closing time. Only rooms near the reception receive wireles internet access - room 7 doesn't.
Comfortable , friendly helpful staff , lovely , reasonably priced food and a nice location for walking in the country
Great stay friendly and efficient staff excellent food in restaurant.
Arrived 20.00hr and left 07.00hr the staff made us welcome even though my son and I had been marshaling on a rally all day.lovely log fire in the bar area and excellent meal.we were leaving early next morning so staff had left toaster and cereal out in bar area for US.1st class service all round
Staff made us feel very welcome and the small problem that arose was dealt with quickly and efficiently
Pleasant and quiet location. Staff friendly an efficient.Good food Twin room slightly on small side but otherwise good
Didn't really stay long enough to comment - arrived late one night and left early next morning. Liked the beer - Black Sheep real ale. Menu looked good but arrived too late to try it out. Breakfast didn't start till 8.30 am. We needed to leave early, so they did provide a basic fruit juice, cereal, toast and kettle breakfast, though no discount on the B&B price for it. Shower power was very low. Our twin room was noisy - above the bar and didn't quiten down until the bar closed - OK for us as we were late - other rooms may be OK.
Beautiful location, quiet, comfortable and relaxed. Helpful and friendly staff. Good food. N/A
A good hotel with excellent staff. None
Excellent food and service, hotel recently refurbished to a high standard. Fabulous views. No real ale in the bar.
Generally a good value hotel with good service and an obliging staff
The position of the hotel was beautiful. The staff were without exception very cheerful and helpful. The room in the new block was excellant and very large with beautiful views overlooking the golf course and coast.
Excellent facilities for golf and central for making day trips in the area.
Position - Nice restaurant - Friendly staff Garden view means looking up a steep gradient which could do with some landscaping
Better than expected for the price. ~Good service and room comforts. Hotel is very badly signposted - very hard to find, especially on dark rainy nights!
the room vas very nice with a subperb view the room had cobwebs around one of the lights
Great food. Fantastic staff. Lovely views. No
The executive rooms are of a basic design but clean and fresh/new. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel is relatively isolated so a quite night is assured. Hotel restaurant food again is elementary but cooked well and very edible. I arrived late for breakfast (restaurant closes at 9 am week days) and staff still serve me with a smile. The view across the North Sea is to die for and the area is 'safe'. A great location for walking if you have the time. I visit the area for my work 9 miles away and will certainly use this hotel again.
Very Clean, staff serving meals and drinks very courteous. Food excellent. Shower stopped working.
A lovely place to stay, very relaxing and pleasurable None
Waiting staff in desperate need of training
Excellent location, good food and a reasonable price.
Found the bedroom a little cold and the beds appeared to be two singles together rather than a double and were slightly at different levels.
The setting is wonderful, the restaurant and menu very good, traditional pub facilities and bar. Relaxing and enjoyable Staff helpful and friendly NO
Excellent food, friendly service and a reminder to the opposition that fair value in a real hostelry counts more than gimmicks. NO
Ideal position for touring round the moors and easy to reach Whitby especially by train from Danby None
The room and adjoining bathroom were very well decorated, well equipped and spacious - we had 2 extra beds in there to accommodate our children and it didn't feel cramped. Breakfast very good indeed. Lovely views and would very much recommend as centre for walking or touring. No bad points
Food, friendliness of staff and location Central heating a little unpredictable
Excellent Room and facilities, Peaceful and quite. I would definatley reccomend the hotel to any of my friend, One of the best i have stopped in.
Staff at hotel were very helpful at dealing with request regarding some medicine that needed to be refrigerated. Nothing serious. One one day the room wasn't completely checked (short of face cloths in bathroom).
The food was excellent, the staff were very friendly, luxurious touches in the room and the bar was very cosy and welcoming. Just what we were looking for.
Clean, friendly, excellent restaurant, cannot fault it! Cannot think of anything!
Friendly and helpful staff, excellent food, the very comfortable room and the log fires were so welcoming on a cold winters day.
The bathroom was lovely, nice big bath and good shower. The wine list is more for the wine expert and very expensive, could do with some cheaper choices for the average person!
Th restaurant is awesome. Room very comfortable, Staff very attentive. WiFi chargeable in rooms, should be free for this price per night.
If we had known about the exelent food we would have dined there the first night and planned our holiday differently.
The staff are very helpful and the rooms are good. The detached sitting room/games room is a good idea
stayed at the hotel for two nights with friends, the rooms were comfortable with a good size bathrooms well equiped and lovely hot towels. Breakfast was great with a good choice. We ate in the restaurant on the first night and the food was good apart from one main course the chicken dish was a little bland. Would suggest that the rooms in the hotel are much better value than the rooms in the new annexe.
The room was very comfortable and well furnished. The staff were very accomodating. Amazing breakfast too!!
Very comfortable room and excellent facilities. Friendly owner and staff. Made to feel very welcome.
The room was fresh and comfortable, very quiet and peaceful. I also liked the deck area outside which would be very pleasant in spring/summer. Signposting is very poor, also the reception area is inadequate and unwelcoming. As the room only had a shower and no bath, a complementary shower cap would have been appreciated.
The most comfortable bed I think I have ever slept in, friendly welcome, very good breakfast, great location....it has it all! No bad points
Very friendly owners and up to date and clean room. Breakfast was great and the B&B gave a very homely feeling. Thank you for a great stay!
Very plesant stay, friendly and made to feel very welcome Only the weather
Excellent family friendly accomadation we liked it all
Excellent accomodation None
Good family run buisness, much needed when you take your kids. None
Peace, quite and comfort. A excellent breakfast. Directions on the lane to the hotel could have been more noticeable. The lateness of check in
