Pros: We enjoyed one night in Kamberg. Great restaurant on the premises which is essential as this is in a very remote and beautiful part of the Drakensberg mountains. Best shower of our trip! Bruce, the manager, was very helpful and engaging. We highly recommend this lodge and would definitely stay again!
Pros: We had a lovely dinner and breakfast. Bruce was very accomodating. We had a very comofrtable stay and were cosy and warm. Looking forward to going back again. THANKS !
Cons: Only thing needed was coffee mugs .
Pros: The hosts were very friendly, the room clean, functional with one of the best showers we had in SA and the breakfast complete. Absolutely good value for money. And the view... that's how you'd like to begin and end your day very day.
Pros: The owers were extremely accommodating especially when faced with challenges ie: injured chef and a fully book weekend. I absolute adore the units. I cant wait to go back!! The food, incredible. You guys are awesome.
Cons: That we didnt think to stay longer
Pros: The owner was exceptionaly nice and made me feel welcome.
Pros: Everything was fantastic, we had a super relaxing stay and will definately be going back in the near future... Bruce was an awesome host....
Cons: More options for breakfast ie croissants, rolls, cereal for kids
Pros: The cottages are spacious and have everything you need. The food at the restaurant is very good, and a group of 12 of us received our dinner in extraordinarily good time. Michelle is hard working and extremely pleasant, all day long. Bruce clearly has a passion for excellence .
Cons: I wasn't delighted with the breakfast. There was more than enough, but unimaginative. I believe that for the same cost to them, they can come up with something more exciting.
Pros: The rooms are new and very comfortable. The mountain views are as described, and the countryside is awesome. The management team are friendly and hands on and attend to queries quickly. The evenings in the bar and getting to know a number of the other guests is memorable thanks to Bruce's warm hospitality.
Cons: Most rooms are not self catering but have a fridge and kettle. A micro-wave oven and a few plates and cutlery would help.
Pros: Set in the countryside, with cabins and facilities sheltered by trees. Breathtaking views. Tranquil setting. Pool looked good (not used). Breakfast was good. Good bar area. Dinner choice limited as property was about to shut down for a couple of weeks. No alternative nearby. Bruce the manager was very polite, friendly and informative.
Cons: Terribly potholed roads and stoney dirt track to get to the property (not the property’s fault). Our satnav took us to the wrong destination (Mooi River about 70km away). The property on booking.com is listed as“Kamberg Mountain Shadows”, but local signs say “Mountain Shadows”, be sure to use “Mountain Shadows” in your satnav to get to the right place! It would be helpful to have property direction signs on the way (especially in Rosetta) if possible. WiFi was terrible, but Bruce the manager explained he is having it checked. Our room was rather hot, but no air con or fans were provided.
Pros: Bruce was an excellent host. He was very accommodating and gave accurate and helpful advice about what we could do in the area. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and in an idyllic setting. The breakfasts were cooked and presented with pride; they were delicious.
With garden views, Knackered Swan B&B is situated in Rev Estates and has a restaurant, a shared lounge, bar, garden and terrace. Complimentary WiFi is offered. There is a private bathroom with shower and a hairdryer in each unit, along with free toiletries. Guests at the bed and breakfast can enjoy a à la carte or a Full English/Irish breakfast. Hiking and fishing can be enjoyed nearby. Portage Waterfall is 18 km from Knackered Swan B&B. The nearest airport is Pietermaritzburg Airport, 97 km from the accommodation.
Pros: The location is in a quiet area. The Hosts were very friendly and the food provided was very good. They unfortunately had to deal with a big storm the evening we were there with the power going out but they did have a generator. The area is rural and the scenery beautiful and relaxing.
Cons: The road is Pot Holed so care should be taken in traveling. As this is in the countryside there are no street lights so suggest you arrive before dusk.
Pros: Laura is a good host.
Cons: Unfortunately, that day and night the wind was blowing over the neighbouring pig farm in our direction...
Pros: Laura and Clem were (are) exceptional hosts, very accommodating, helpful, friendly. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and the room was very comfortable and cosy. And the accommodation is ideally located, not far from the Drakensberg mountains.
Pros: Very pleasant experience. Exceptional level of service from the owner, even catering to our vegan needs. Breakfast is generous. Best fruit salad I've had. Rooms are comfy. Shared TV room is cosy. Location is 44km to Giants castle and 36km to Nottingham Road
Cons: Road to the accommodation has many potholes
Pros: The staff were warm and welcoming - huge tasty breakfasts - clean!! Great views of the mountains
Pros: Its exactly the home away from home. Comfortable. Very helping and welcoming owners
Cons: Nothing bad except the terrifying dogs, maybe if they may be locked during the day and let out after hours.
Pros: The place is perfectly situated as it is close to the famous tourists attractions.
Cons: A small television set in the room. It is sometimes too cold to stay in the sitting room or we want to watch a few tv programmes while in bed.
Pros: The breakfast was lovely, the room was very comfortable with a lovely view.
Pros: The breakfast was okay
Cons: It would have been more appropriate if TV facilities are installed in the bedrooms..
Pros: Very good and friendly
With a stay at Qambathi Mountain Lodge in Elandskop, you'll be in the mountains, within a 10-minute drive of Drakensberg Mountains and uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park. Featured amenities include dry cleaning/laundry services, multilingual staff, and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Everything especially food
Pros: The staff were outstanding and did their best.
Cons: We stayed at the self catering lodge and were very disappointed to find only one bathroom. Shower had water problems. The facilities in the cottage were less that expectation based on the price charged. Someone who cleaned the cottage enjoyed chewing gum and left a chewed piece on the bedside table the first day after we arrived - it stayed there for our 3 night visit. As this was one of many bookings made about 6 months ago we could not remember if the dinner and breakfast were included in our payment, we inquired on arrival and no one was sure but thought that it was, so we had dinner the first night. The next morning we were told that the dinner was not included and that the cost of the meal that we had had was R 400.00 per person - no drinks were included. Although the food was quite nice the value was way below R 400.00. When I complained the charge was dropped to R 300.00 per person - still way above what one would have expected. My observations are based on the fact that we have been involved with lodges [worked at, managed and owned] for many years and the standard for this one was well below what we would expect - other than the two ladies that we met who really tried their best. We would not recommend Qambathi to any of our friends.
Pros: Our room was spacious, clean and with a fantastic view on the mountains. Breakfast, lunch and dinner were homemade cooked by an excellent chef. Great wines as well! The new owners Steven and Nadia did truly all they could to make us, as their first visitors, feel comfortable and at home! This lodge has such a great potential!
Cons: We were the first visitors for the new owners. There were some things that need attention, which the owners know and are working on.
Cons: The cottage is poorly equipped and run down... Does not fit the lodge. The water is brown -
Pros: Dinner was superb.
Cons: There was an issue with hot water in our room. We had to bathe in another room. I think the property should have ensured that everything was in order prior to our arrival.
Pros: Very quiet location in a natural setting with wildlife on your doorstep. All facilities were nice & clean, & breakfast was just great.
Pros: The setting is really beautiful, with zebras and horses roaming around in the reserve. It is very peaceful. The "house" we were booked in, was very spacious. Good quality bed linen made for very good sleeping, and we also appreciated the good quality bathroom towels. The décor is quite fitting for the setting, although antiquated. The kitchen area is well equipped with significant amount of pots and pans, but very limited crockery.
Cons: We expected the facility to have a restaurant or offer food - either as breakfast or dinner. There is no restaurant or eating venue close by, and there is no information provided up front on the need to cater for yourself. We were thus completely unprepared. We would gladly have spent more money if there was provision made for breakfast. For the price paid, we expected more.
Pros: The place is unique ... rooms are great ... artwork awesome .. the food superb ... it can only get better ...
Cons: Poor network and cellphone connection ...
