The food in the restaurant was excellent and the room was clean and comfortable with excellent facilities. N/A
The room and hotel where fantastic
The bed was to die for, food fantastic, great location and ambiance. Highly recommended as a great weekend retreat. The shower was disappointing. Always prefer a glass screen to a clingy shower curtain.
Rooms were clean, warm & had full amenities incl iron. No lift & no help with luggage for disabled. In fact there was a staff lift which could have been offered but was only mentioned as we were leaving.
The hotel was very luxurious and the staff were incedibly friendly and helpful. The location is great. There is plenty of parking. I liked the selling point of the dog on the bed. Of course Sam came home with us. I will be staying there again in the future.I have recommended the hotel, and my friend is going next month. Nothing we didn't like
Comfort, cleanliness, great staff and in a superb location Great food and service in a pleasant restaurant but most ladies sat and ate with cardigans on or jackets over their shoulders as it was mid Jan,cold outside, but no or little heating was on in the public areas
Interior design and standard of room N/A
Great position just on the lakeside. - Responsive General Manager.
Mainly relax!!look around the sites Parking
The finish and the comfort of the rooms and the quality of the breakfast. The service at dinner was slow but the food was good when it came.
The whole experience was welcoming, relaxing, and comfortable. The staff were excellent, and the hotel itself was a lovely retreat. N/A
Pleasant atmosphere, lovely room, very efficient staff.
Excellent location in beautiful, quiet Grasmere. Lovely grounds. Staff attentive without being overbearing. Superior room did not have double glazing, and no ventilation / extraction in the bathroom. Windows suffered from condensation, and signs that mouldy surfaces had been painted over. We were told that the hotel had recently been sold, and that the new owners were investing which sounds positive. Beds and pillows too soft for our liking.
A lovely clean room in plea\sant surroundings I was surprised that there was no tea & coffee making facilities in the room considering the cost. I would have prefered to pay a little extra and have breakfast included.
The garden the extractor didn't work in the bathroom, nor did the light. The room was too hot and above the kitchen which was noisy and resulted in lots of flies in the room. The delivery vans unloading under our room were a constant nuisance. The toiletries were not topped up, I had to ask for my canapes before dinner when everyone else had theirs brought to them as a matter of course. There was no flower
Most of everything. The staff could be more nice and helpfull.
I enjoyed staying in the room, it was very clean and comfortable. I didn't like the fact that there wasn't a kettle in the room.
Quality of food was very good. Although a lot of choice on the menu for dinner, (7on each course) it was exactly the same menu each night so got rather boring when staying four nights and I had exhausted the dishes I liked by the 3rd night!! Also no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms. Our room also needed modernising-very dated decor.
the hotel is very central for walking .the staff are excellent very clean but a bit worn round the edges eg carpets on corridors. no complaints
Friendly and helpful staff, a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Attentive service. The bed in an executive double room was not very comfortable.
The spa bath, the furniture in the room. Extremely comfortable bed. Great breakfast. Very friendly and helpful staff. The room was too hot even with the window open! it would have been good to have herbal teas in the room.
The room was excellent and very spacious, with a lovely bathroom. The whole hotel was very clean and the staff were friendly and welcoming.
Beautiful rooms, beautiful setting, very relaxing
Everything about the hotel was perfect, in a really stunning village. Thankyou for a great stay. Will be back
The bathroom, the location and the breakfast were outstanding! My partner and I found the beds to be uncomfortable and it was very hot on the third second floor, even with the heat turned off.
very high standard of accomodation very conveniant whats not to like
The quality of the decor and furnishing was excellent and the centrall location in Grasmere was perfect. Please write at least 15 words Lack of table seating for breakfast.
The Hotel was very comfortable for us and welcoming to our dog. The hot tub was great after a long walk out on the hills. The breakfasts were very good with a wide variety of choice both hot and cold. The Hotel lived up to its Organic billing.
we wanted a quiet relaxing break for a couple of days and we got it. The hotel is very clean and the room and bathroom was fabulous. The buffet breakfast was great...a nice change from the typical fry up that you usually get in hotels. WE liked teh self service idea of it all and were able to relax in teh comfy sofa's eat our breakfast and relax with the paper
The room was stylish and very comfortable, with excellent en suite facilities. Check in at the restaurant next door was fast and convenient as we arrived late evening. We were upgraded to a superior room at no extra charge as they were not busy. Thankyou None
I liked the way the whole place was decorated and furnished. It had everything you would need for a short break. Nothing
The hotel is very clean and beautifully furnished in a modern style. It is a place where you are expected to be capable of looking after yourself, as befits anyone visiting the mountains. People who complain about climbing stairs have no business in Ambleside! Tea and coffee making facilities have been added to the rooms, as well as the coffee maker on the landing; the bedding was pure cotton; the mattress in our room was indeed memory foam. The top floor has outstanding views towards the mountains. We will definitely stay here again. This is a hotel for people who are independent minded and don't need 'looking after'. We are walkers, arrived on foot, no need to complain about walking to a car park! The downside of being centrally located is the nightlife and sound from the local hostelries. Pay your money and take your choice. We were very contented, enjoyed being in the centre of town, and enjoyed finding our own breakfast in the morning.
Room was very cosy and cute. Small, but very well decorated. Free coffee/ tea was nice. Staff was distant / detached. They were efficient and I don't have any complaints about them, but I didn't feel particularly welcomed to the hotel.
The hotel in general was good and the majority of the staff helpful and pleasant the rooms were clean and well equipped. The lack of somewhere to eat after 10pm other than room service. The wardrobe space was a little small but was ok for a weekend stay. Our room key would not open the room door one evening when we returned to the hotel after midnight and we could not find any staff at reception for 20 mins to open the door. The prices for dining and the bar prices were a little high
The room was furnished to a high standard and the location is excellent for visits to the local sights in Ambleside The room is just that, a room. When my girlfriend and I visited it was cold outside. I did not anticipate this being a problem but the room was very cold and the tiny heater in the corner did little to help. The room was also situated next to a single glazed window and on a Friday night it became very noisy and disturbed our nights sleep. I feel like if the window had been double glazed the room would have been significantly warmer and considerably quieter. We were provided with tokens for hot drinks but the hot drink machine was out of milk whilst we stayed. Finally the rubbish we generated was not collected despite being collected into a bag for their convenience and placed outside the door.
room was very well decorated and bed was very comfortable en-suite facillity was very noisy when toilets are flushed, taps ran and shower on.
Lovely room in a fantastic part of the country. None
it was good price, very central. comfortabke and clean it was great!!
Comfortable accommodation and in a great location. We liked the complimentary tokens for the coffee machine! Our welcome was a bit rushed.
Friendly, clean & tidy, good location to the town & outlying area None
excellent location and lovely room staff very friendly
I found the hotel to be charming with a good level of comfort. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The bed was a little lumpy.
Traditional family run guest house in excellent location close to centre of Ambleside. All of the staff were friendly and helpful during our 3 night stay. Good selection on breakfast menu with sensible portions, all well prepared. Good sized bedroom advertised as twin but actually a single and double bed, decorated in traditional style. Modern, well- equiped shower ensuite. Squeaky mattress
Very friendly and welcoming. Helpful information about local walks. Warm and relaxing to come back to after a day's walking n/a
Very helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Well situated hotel for exploring Ambleside and surrounding areas. Standard room was not very big and decor was old fashioned.
Breakfast,Interest and helpfuless of Staff,Comfy Bed, Colour of bathroom suite!
The hotel was in a very convenient place for the centre of Ambleside. The breakfasts were excellent and the staff very friendly and helpful. we stayed in a "luxury room" which was just a standard looking room but with a four poster bed.
Location & accommodation Very small breakfast
Staff were very friendly and food was good No lean towels, room was very cold, toilet paper not replaced, no satelite tv as advertised
The rooms are really comfortable and very clean.Breakfast is first class and the people who run the business are really friendly and helpful Nothing
Friendly, clean, great location and the breakfast will keep you going all day.Fantastic !!
Restaurants and facilitys
My partner and I both thought that the hotel and its surroundings where brilliant, you really felt like you where somewhere very calming. We thought that the site was clean and tidy and the layout was great. We would definately like to return to langdale for a longer break.
Excellent facilities, especially with children, very comfortable room and friendly staff. Fantastic location for walking and pubs!
This a beautiful hotel set in wonderful surroundings. The rooms are luxurious and are individually decorated. The spa is very relaxing and everything is spotlessly clean. We ate in the Terrace restaurant in the evening and the food was excellent. All the hotel staff were very friendly. We had a wonderful relaxing stay and hope to go again sometime.
Supremely comfortable bed - wanted to take it home with me! All pretty good actually - great location, superb breakfast and nice sports facilities. Lots of kids, but then it was half term!
The quality of all the staff who were excellent in every respect; they could not do enough for you and seemed motivated and happy. Some noisy children in the leisure area were annoying but nothing more; have made the hotel aware of this.
I liked the fact that there were so many facilities at our disposal if we chose to use them, As it was, we were blessed with amazing weather and I did not swim as much as I had anticipated; when I did, I thought th pool. jacuzzi, steam room etc were wonderful.
We have stayed at numerous luxury hotel's in the lake district, but nothing compared to Langdale. The food, waiter service, facilities, and whole complex is outstanding. Can't wait to return. N/A
food room very dark and did not have any view
the location and the leisure centre facilities. there was no pool table
Right from the start we felt cosy and welcome, experiencing true Lakes hospitality. Dene - thanks so much for all the tips and map drawings, we had an absolutely fantastic time! Wouldn't be the same without these local tips. Room was very nice and had a homely feel. Location was also perfect for us - right in the heart of the Lake District. And the cherry on top was the magnificent view from the breakfast room. Oh yes - and the breakfast was very satisfying, providing enough fuel for climbing those hills during the day! Overall - superb! If I could rate 6 stars, I would ...
The room was very tidy and we especailly liked the large comfy bed, fantastic views from the bay window and a great breakfast
The location of the hotel and the comfort and privacy of the hideaway rooms Nothing
Quiet and comfortable No telephone in the room
location, standard of facilities, service
Location, scenery, Friendly hospitallity, the unique style and setting of the hotel
Hide away rooms are a brilliant design
Lovely room and comfortable bed, helpful staff
Pleasant comfortable small hotel. Excellent furnishings in keeping with Victorian age of building
The staff were all very friendly and made our stay very enjoyable
The. cleanliness was first class, the breeakfast beautiful Nothing
friendly staff, comfortable room, perfect location
the swimming pool, the breakfast, the room
Kippers on the menu for breakfast
the breakfast was excellent
I enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and the excellent leisure facilities I was in room 219 and the bed was not long enogh
The friendly relaxed atmosphere. We have been staying at the Salutation for several years and it is nice to see familiar faces amongst the staff. The rooms on the road can be affected by road noise and noise from the pub opposite
Very friendly staff, well maintained facilities.
Excellent breakfast, staff were very good, location is ideal for access to the Lakes. Following the "no smoking " legislation, smokers stand at the front door making for an unpleasant experience as you access the hotel. If you stay in room 105 and like to have an open window then be prepared for a smoking experience as the smoke rises from the front door!
Location in town centre. Easy access to lake and public transport. Hotel's own car park facilities. Excellent breakfasts. Rooms were clean and comfortable but the decor and furniture was a little dated.
peace and quiet
Quiet, friendly, great location
The location is amazing, fantastic views, nice and remote - no mobile reception.
Friendly and helpful staff, relaxed atmosphere, good food
Really comfortable bed with quality bedding. Efficiency and pleasantness of the staff. Food in the Walker's Bar was disappointing, would like a better quality alternative to standard dinner, though the latter was excellent
Bathroom and toilet were spacious, bright and clean. Bedroom, for a superior room, was small, windows rattled all night,no toilet roll holderdirty towel from previous guest left on rack, non english speaking staff in abundance, breakfast was a little ilke a cattle market, overall, well below what I would expect of a top quality hotel
The lounge, position, rooms, atmosphere Gourmet
The staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. The food was excellent either for casual or more formal dining.
position and views from the hotel and good food restaurant expensive but the bar menu was varied and good value
flat screen tv not good value, breakfast was disappointing, as were limited choice of bar meals with no fresh veg or salad available. We paid for a premier room but got a room with a very limited view when the other aspects had fell views!
Wonderful charming inn, with extremely kind owners. Breakfast was delicious! We also enjoyed sitting by the fire in the evening.
Very good quality food for breakfast. Spacious, comfortable public arrears, with welcoming log fire. Internet access available.Friendly and welcoming staff. Country pub serving good beer and wholesome evening meals 1min walk away. Beautiful countryside accessible on foot from the front door. We found our double room a bit cramped.
The lounge fire was lit at night and the smell of peat was really nice. The dining room was large and we had a table to ourselves . I would prefer self serve on breakfast starters ie cereal and fruit juice
I liked the location, the log fire, the first class English Breakfast which really set me up for the day ahead, the friendliness of the management, the decor and the spotless manner in which the guest house was kept - Oh, and the value for money! I had a small single room - just a little bit too small for a big chap, but I was, after all, staying in a 300 year old cottage! My private bathroom was well equipped but I would have preferred en suite facilities.
relaxed cosey setting excellent breakfast nothing
The position of the hotel was excellent and the room was clean and modern,if a little small.Overall we had a nice stay. We only had breakfast on one of the mornings we stayed but found it a bit disappointing in its lack of choice and we were very disappointed by the sausages- a nice local choice instead of bog standard would have been nice!!!!
Everything from food to cleanliness and the staff were excellent. If I had to say one bad thing it would be the menu was not too varied. But ideal fro our short stay.
Delay in travelling meant we were late in arriving so being able to check in at 11.15 was helpful. Check in staff member was extremely helpful, advising on where could find food late at night etc. room was very clean, warm and comfortable. Breakfast was good and staff helpful. Just a minor downside was the loud music from the bar below but we were told that it closed at midnight so we were aware that it wasn't going to be playing for too long.
Excellent hotel, location in the middle of the village. Hotel spotless, room's spacious and the bathrooms and very modern. Bar very friendly and reasonably priced. Excellent breakfast! Would highly recommend a stay here.
Comfortable, clean, good sized room. Noise from the bar below.
The loction of the Hotel was great. The rooms were very clean and very comfortable and well presented. Breakfast was very good. We did have one complaint which the staff dealt with very well and did sort out for us. It was very tight to get in to the parking area and depending on how busy the hotel is you might not get a space. Also we did get our car blocked in one morning which ment we had to try and find the owner to let us out. It did say there is a busy Bar but with it being called a hotel we assumed it was mainley for the hotel uses. This is not the case. It is a very loud and popular bar with the locals. We were on the first floor of the hotel and could hear the music and talking till gone midnight on the friday. The floor in the room was also vibrating to the music. We did complain about this in the morning and got moved to the forth floor for the second night which was great and we heard nothing that night. You have to book in at the bar as there is no reception which was a bit awkward.
Our room was on the third floor and had lovely views across ambleside town, the room was cosy and very clean and the breakfast was the best we have had in the lakes hotels we have stayed in,our thanks to all the staff who made our stay a welcome one.we would not hesitate in booking again. nothing to report, maybe wi fi would of been helpful
Accomodation and breakfasts The stairs to the top floor
Room clean, with very little outside noise and refurbed not so long ago. the Hotel supplied car parking was not available. Location of reception area for hotel.
Very good value for money and very good location - would stay there again without any doubt. N/A
The place was comfortable, immaculate and tastefully done out and in a great position. Staff were friendly and the breakfast was great.
Very friendly staff and excellent location in the town. Nothing
The staff were very pleasant and friendly. It was centrally located so easy access for all the amenities in Ambleside. Not all the time, but on occassion, the heating wasn`t always on and therefore the room was a little on the cold side. I must emphsise that this was on the odd occassion, not all the while.
Friendly and helpfull staff. Position and convenience of The Gables. There was a fault with the fire alarm on the 22nd Oct which didn't give quite the relaxing break we expected. Going off at 0030hr ish and again two hours later, left us awake awaiting the next interruption to our sleep. I think an apology and maybe a discount for that night would have been in order.
Central to the town shopping. Able to do walks from the hotel without using the car. View over the bowling, tennis and mini golf to the front and fells to the rear. None
Excellent facilities in quiet side street, drying room for wet gear, V.comfortable bedroom, large variety of foods for breakfast, (delicious bacon, sausage, etc and plenty of it). Welcoming atmosphere and helpful staff. Limited parking spaces.
Very friendly staff. Clean, comfortable, well-appointed rooms. Great location and a magnificent inclusive breakfast. Wifi won't reach all rooms but is available free in common areas. Car parking is limited but convenient alternatives are available.
The staff were very earnet to thier work. We find that they enjoy to take care of their guests, even their dog and the child. We had great time to stay at The Gables. If wevist the Lake District again we never gorget tostay at The Gables. And I believe that more people enjoy the stay there. None
Excellent Hotel located in a great position. The owners were very welcoming and helpful. Lovely room and a hearty breakfast with a good selection. Overall a great choice. None at all. We would definately stay again.
