Pros: Location and quietness.
Cons: No heating. Room is a bit cold and humid.
Pros: We were welcomed by a very friendly host and hostess. They were able to provide a gluten and lactose free breakfast. The cosy bedroom felt homy. Quiet place to stay. We enjoyed the jacuzzi.
Cons: We enjoyed the breakfast. There's an elaborate buffet. I would however prefer to have a more limited choice of really good and fresh products.
Pros: Breakfast was excellent the hosts were very friendly and helpful. We even bought there home made honey. As we were staying extra nights the host said we could use the pool anytime, which was very much appreciated.
Pros: This was a quaint little b&b in the country side and outskirts of Valenciennes. From the moment we arrived the owner was very helpful and made us feel welcomed and relaxed. The rooms are very comfortable and nicely decor'd. The b&b is best accessed by car if you want to make the 6k journey into Valenciennes or take in the gorgeous countryside. The breakfast was delicious and included fresh local produce. Highly recommend this place.
Pros: This is a fabulous place to stay, great hosts, beautiful accommodation, nice pool and facilities. If you're thinking of booking don't hesitate you won't regret it.
Pros: Breakfast Stylish room
Cons: Spare blanket for queen bad would be nice. Otherwise everything was great
Pros: Would be better to not wait 'til 5 pm to enter
Cons: see above
Pros: I didn't have breakfast but the owner had kindly wrapped some mini pastries for me.
Located in Maresches, Hermitage Henry is a 1-minute drive from Avesnois Regional Nature Park and 9 minutes from Musee des Beaux-Arts. Featured amenities include complimentary newspapers in the lobby and luggage storage. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Where do I start, this was the biggest surprise! The house was amazing and our rooms too, all differently decorated with eclectic furnishing and lighting, the latter all different throughout the house. The house is set in beautiful grounds surrounded by unbroken countryside with places to sit out in the evening with a drink and enjoy the views. Dianne and Frederik were great hosts who were around if we needed them but not intrusive. Breakfast was good quality everything and very enjoyable. There are common rooms guests can use with tea and coffee facilities. This chamber d’hotes would give any 5* Hotel a run for their money!
Cons: Nothing, nothing, nothing,
Pros: Very nice, calm house. The owners have very good advice about the best restaurants. Big garden with local wildlife, like rabbits and partridges. Breakfast is about the best you get in France! They even offer different types of cheese (which is very uncommon in France)!
Pros: Hosts Diane and Frédéric are great. They know lots about the area and what is going on. We enjoyed talking with them and learning about Valenciennes. They have done a beautiful job on renovating an old character home.
Cons: I can't imagine this stay having been any better, but people should be aware that it is not possible to walk to restaurants for dinner. You will need a car or bicycles. One day we got dinner from the grocery store in Préseau and ate in the back yard of Hermitage Henry -- very pleasant!
Pros: The manor house was tastefully renovated and our room very clean and comfortable. All set in a peaceful beautiful rural environment.
Cons: Nice breakfast but short on coffee
Pros: Huge mansion. Huge room and bathroom. Very nice hosts
Pros: Very nice hosts, stunning house and very quiet location but not far from Le Quesnoy. Beautifully decorated with some great pop art on the walls
Cons: It was perfect
Pros: The house was amazing. There was ample, secure parking. Breakfast was good with good quality food. Hosts were friendly and helpful.
Cons: It would have been nice to have had a kettle in our room instead of in a central location.
Featuring a garden and a shared lounge, Watt'Home provides homestay accommodation in Valenciennes with free WiFi and city views. It is located 300 metres from Fine Arts museum and features luggage storage space. The guest room has a flat-screen TV with cable channels. For an extra charge, guests at the homestay can enjoy a continental or a à la carte breakfast. If you would like to discover the area, golfing is possible in the surroundings. Popular points of interest near Watt'Home include Valenciennes Town Hall, Centre Place d'Armes Shopping Centre and Le Phenix Performance Hall. The nearest airport is Lille, 51 km from the accommodation, and the property offers a paid airport shuttle service.
Pros: The lady who welcomed us and helped us through our stay was delightful, and made us feel so at home. The house is amazing, the room was beautifully decorated and the bathroom was stunning (bath salts are worth a go, wife said they were lovely). Great stay and will defo book there again.
Cons: Nothing ....lovely stay
Pros: Fabulous room. Very quiet and comfortable despite being on the ground floor and facing the road. Room is huge, as is the bathroom, with a large comfortable bed. I'm ashamed to say I didn't ask the name of the lovely lady who gave us such a warm welcome - her English, though basic, is sufficient and so so much better than my appalling schoolboy French. Breakfast was generous by French b&b standards, and included a good selection of cold meats and wonderful cheeses as well as the obligatory bread, croissants and jam. We don't really go for sweet breakfasts so this was a very welcome addition. It is served one of 3 large adjoining rooms that form the dining and lounge areas for the other (long term) guests. The fireplaces and decor in these rooms (along with the staircase and trompe-l'oeil in the grand entrance lobby) are worth the price of the breakfast alone, and need to be seen to be believed. There is only one b&b room here so you will be eating alone. A great place to stay, we loved it! I'll leave you to your own opinions of Valenciennes which sadly we found utterly charmless. Don't stay here on Sunday night if you expect to find restaurants open in the evening.
Cons: Shower was in a bath (although the bathroom itself was fantastic), it's a big step in and out if, like me, you are not as young and mobile as you once were.
Pros: The hotel is located a little outside of the city centre of Valenciennes in a very beautiful house, also occupied by some elder people and students (I was told this, but I never saw them). The room is very private and comfortable. Very nice reception, I felt at home immediately. Will come back again!
Cons: Nothing, really.
Pros: My stay at Watt’home was splendid! Even though I was only there for one night, it provided excellent facilities in a romantically historic building. The staff were very kind, electing to give me a small tour of the home and despite a small language barrier, we’re extremely accommodating and answered my questions as best as they could. I assume that I am also considerably younger than their average guest, but I was still treated with respect which I am very grateful for.
Pros: This is a real gem of a place to stay. If you like something a little different then this is the place for you Lovely lady in charge
Pros: The location was great and the decor and room facilities good.
Cons: The property is actually a home for 6 elderly ladies which is not made clear on the website. Whilst the hosts were friendly and the room lovely this did feel a bit strange and as though you were being intrusive. Very unique accommodation stay but cannot fault the hosts.
Located in Valenciennes, Le Grand Duc is in a rural location, within a 15-minute drive of Musee des Beaux-Arts and Avesnois Regional Nature Park. Free self parking is available onsite.
Cons: Would have liked a tea/coffee maker in the room
Pros: very nice breakfast in a beautiful table, with the green garden out of the window.
Pros: Good size room and bathroom
Cons: No restaurant or bar as stated on the web site. Central heating pipes creaked and ticked during the night and woke us up. Very expensive with not even a kettle or bottle of water in the room for refreshments.
Pros: If you have a reason to go to Anzin near Valenciennes then this is a great place to stay - comfortable room, friendly welcome and a boutique feel to the place with an eclectic style. If the weather is good, an excellent garden is available.
Cons: Nothing to mention.
Pros: Great place to stay, great atmosphere, great host and staff. Spacious room and bathroom. Definitely would come back if in Valenciennes again.
Cons: With no air conditioning room can be warm. But in all fairness AC is not very common in France.
Pros: Lovely staff and a beautiful building.
Pros: Our car broke down on our journey to the Grand Duc. Philip went out of his way to accommodate us late into the evening and assist us with communicating/translating with our breakdown company. The accommodation is very comfortable with the biggest bed I've ever slept in. There is a lovely outdoor area, and very impressive entrance. I especially liked the eclectic interior design. Would highly recommend to anybody wanting to stay in this region of France.
Located in Vicq, Secret d'une nuit is within a 15-minute drive of Musee des Beaux-Arts and Avesnois Regional Nature Park. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Katie - the owner - is excellent and very friendly!!!
Pros: The hospitality and original decor. The animals were also wonderful!
Pros: It has a spa and pool but the weather was to cool for me to use the pool. It has farm scenery and church views from the back area. My room had a little goldfish in the bedroom unique.

Pros: Clean and great staff
Pros: very friendly staff, good breakfast with enough options and good croissants :) Rooms are very big for one person, it is a bit strange, that the toilet is a single room without a sink, so to wash your hands you have to go and change rooms. on the other hand, if you are 2, then it is probably nice to have a separate toilet. clean and had all i needed.
Pros: Great location and clean, nice staff
Cons: No all good
Cons: No onsite parking.

Cons: As with most hotels the duvets are too thick for summer
Pros: Room, location & Casino
Cons: Everything ok
Pros: The breakfast was good but the only hot food available had meat in it.
Cons: There could have been more coffee in the room. Everything else was great.
Pros: The staff were really friendly and helpful. The breakfast had a good selection I wish it had a few hot things like eggs or sausage or bacon etc..
Cons: Not enough coffee or tea in the room, could only make 1 cup between 2 people.
Pros: Fabulous building and gardens
Pros: Beautiful location and building. Excellent breakfast. Fantastic staff.
Cons: Nothing to dislike!
Pros: The only member of staff was very courteous staff.
Cons: No restaurant, although booking.com information stated “restaurant closed on Sunday” toilet was dangerously loose on the floor. Grounds were stunning but in need of attention. No one to take monies in morning, so left not knowing cost. Loverly lady serving breakfast seen cleaning toilets during service

Pros: A very old building with lots of character. We only stayed 1 night which was not enough. Restaurant serves very good meals.
Pros: Very friendly staff.
Cons: We had dinner at the Auberge and it was too much money for the experience. Escargots were very disappointing (not much was done with the remark I made). I would have expect better. The room was smelly and the bed was hard.
Pros: an unusual old hotel with indivualised and excellent room with huge en suite bathroom, good food in the restaurant
Pros: Very beautiful historic building, spacious rooms, helpful staff, great restaurant on the premises.
Cons: We had very strange and old (old-fashioned?) furniture in our room
Welcome to the ibis budget Petite-Forêt hotel (formerly Etap Hotel)! An economy hotel located on the outskirts of Valenciennes: essential comfort at a budget price. Take the smart option and stay in a modern, newly designed Cocoon room, which can accommod ate up to 4 persons. This hotel also has a room for business meetings.
Pros: Comfy bed, was given an extra pillow on request
Cons: Room was very hot and no net curtain to stop flying insects coming in when window open.
Pros: The personnel was very friendly. The rooms were very clean snd simple. Coffee and fruits were very good!
Pros: Good location for a stop over, big retail park nearby, huge hypermarket within walking distance
Cons: It was warm during our stay.. no Aircon so had to have the window open with noise from nearby motorway and side roads. Part of the hotel is currently (summer 2019) being used as a military base for army personnel, so we shared the breakfast room with around 40 french soldiers. Apparently they are there following the terror attacks in Paris and subsequent links to Belgium.
Pros: Service was great, staff was super kind and helpful, breakfast was good, rooms and common areas were clean. Location is convenient with nearby restaurants and shopping center. As a stop over hotel it's great place and can be recommended.
Cons: 2nd floor rooms are simply too hot in summer. With open windows and activities going on till late night it's difficult to sleep. Everything else was great.

Pros: Very friendly staff! They told us about the things to see/ to do and gave us the food specialties from Valenciennes. There was no parking space in front of the hotel so they told us were we could park. The hotel was very good located and quit during the night. Clean rooms.
Cons: The breakfast was basic, but it's a 2 stars hotel, so you couldn't not expect more, it was oké.
Pros: The location was excellent and the lady receptionist was friendly.
Cons: Parking was a problem as we arrived on a Saturday afternoon
Pros: The property met all our expectations and was clean and comfortable.
Cons: The staircase was steep.
Pros: Comfortable bed - another pillow would have been good. Location very good for town centre.
Cons: Walls paper thin - next door early telephone call heard - shower noise - fusty lower floor hallway. Tap in sink in shower room too high water easily splashed over. Parking pays to and limited to side streets if hotel one full.
Cons: Very limited parking possibilities
Pros: The location, the size of the room, clean room and a warm welcome!
Cons: The breakfast (9 euro’s) was to expensive and not really good. The scrambled eggs looked really horrible, the cheese was old and the coffee wasn’t warm. We had to pay the full amount for our 11 year old.
Pros: I ate the continental breakfast that was included on the second morning- it was good value for money I had eaten breakfast out the previous morning and it cost more for less food than the hotel offered
Cons: I found the room structure to be poky with awkward construction of toilet and bathroom in the entrance. the key system for the door lock was difficult to master and it often took a while to get into the room
Pros: Very help full staff
Cons: A little hard to find in a small town

Pros: The breakfast was good and they have a car park. The staff were friendly and spoke English. The beer was good but expensive.
Cons: The room was very basic, almost austere. No tea or coffee making facilities. The location was in a run down area. It was very expensive for what it was. I will not go to an Ibis again.
Pros: It was okay for the money although we have had better value on this trip
Cons: It wasn't actually it's own hotel as advertised, it was the top floors of an ibis. Other guests bathrooms could be heard late into the small hours as could doors slamming Other guests smoking under our balcony was awful. Website said parking but we were charged 5 euro without prior notice of a charge.
Pros: Lovely staff, booked us a taxi.
Cons: Would have liked some hot food at breakfast. No eegs

Doesn't look like much from the outside, but the rooms are quite comfortable, very affordable and the staff were super friendly. Parking is also available in the interior courtyard. Small city grocery store right across the street.
