The decor and cleanliness of the guest rooms and the public rooms particularly the dining room. The friendliness and courtesy of all the staff Nothing
Location to my business meetings
Seemed to be a small family run hotel and staff were very friendly.
The breakfast, closeness to a local pub, quietness, but most of all that they accept dogs.. Even the executive rooms are rather small as are the T.V's.
5th time of staying - which says it all NA
The food was excellent The rooms/furniture was old and dated
The hotel was very easy to find. My room was well decorated and spotlessly clean. The food in the restaurant was excellent, and all of the staff were friendly and helpful. Very impressed!
The staff were first class, friendly and hospitable. Even though there was a wedding reception taking place at the time we were there they made sure that we were well taken care of. The food was excellent. The hotel has a warm hospitable feel about it. The executive double was a bit on the small side.
The helpfullness and friendliness of the staff
Polite friendly staff. No problem with serving breakfast a little earlier than advertised on Sunday morning. Thermostat was set rather high so had rather a hot night.
Well sound-proofed between rooms and from outside noise. The lack of a bedsheet meant I couldn't adjust my temperature - too hot under the duvet and too cold with it turned down.
rooms were very comfortable, staff were great, very helpful only that we did not have a car with us, there was no where to eat other than the servicestation where we had to eat sandwiches all weekend! no bar reastaurant in the area, this was not pointed out, also a taxi wouldnt come to take us anywhere, i had to ring someone i had only just met to come and pick us up when we checked out, the staff were very helpful though.
Very convenient to the 2 places I was going--Westonbirt and Slimbridge, and easily accessible from the M5 .
It was perfect for purpose - in and out whilst on business trip. I would be happy to use it again on such an occasion
Recetionist changed our room to better meet our needs Nil. Only point for improvement is to give the travel advice on the website on the booking confirmation as access when not accessing the hotel from the norrthbound motorway meant having to go through a no entry sign which other vehicles were seen to ingnore.
It was a good base for our stay and would use it again The only problem was somebody had been smoking in the room we were given and putting the tabs down the sink. This was brought to the staffs attention since we had asked for a non smoking room
The helpfulness of the staff No extra blanket in the room and it was a very cold night
It was close to The Ryder Cup venue at Celtic Manor
Efficient friendly service, a basic hotel but everything worked as it should.
Ease of booking and simplicity!
The Staff, service and the food were excellant.
Quiet location. Comfortable beds and well equipped bathroom. Excellent breakfast.
Staff friendly bar food was ok came very quickly and open until a convienent time. Room itself was a good size .breakfast was good with plenty of choice. The room was cold as was the bathroom, eventually found the heater in the bathroom and the one in the room took quite a while to warm the big area, just glad it wasnt the middle of winter, the underneath of the sink unit could have done with a clean the cobwebs were hanging and looked like they had been there for sometime(
Nice buffet breakfast. Staff friendly and efficient. Good quality biscuits with the tea/coffee making facilities in the room. We stayed here 3 years ago in a room at the back of the hotel and it was quiet. This time our room was at the front of the hotel and didn't have double glazed windows so we could hear traffic noise from the a38. Walls a little thin too, as we could hear next door's tv and shower.
Excellent food. Very peaceful and pleasant atmosphere. Only one chair in a double room with two occupants. Sunday morning breakfast turned out to be self service, rather than the very pleasant waitress on Saturday, and the hotel was fairly busy, so not quite the relaxing experience we had in mind.
Staff very helpfull Our room smelt of smoke, but the hotel receptionist found us another room without any fuss.
The accommodation was comfortable and the tv worked.
Excellent rooms, very comfortable with everything you could need. Friendly staff, good atmosphere. Very good breakfast. Excellant value for money.
We chose this hotel entirely for the location as we had a wedding to attend and visited friends and family over the 4 days therefore the proximity to Gloucester, Dursley, Kingswood and Berkeley was the only criteria. We were disappointed that we only had a normal-size double bed, Premier Inns have king-sized beds at a lower price so I would expect bigger beds in this day and age at most hotels
Excellent food, breakfast good variation and evening meal very good value for money. Room very pleasant.
The overall atmosphere of the castle hotel, the beautiful garden and the kind and polite staff. I liked the interior design and had enough amenity goods in the bathroom. Food was also good. Ceiling was low, but I found it no problem (I am short).
staff pleasant, room comfortable, food good, the building itself historic and beautiful - the reason we went there!
Being a castle, the stay at the hotel was a unique experience, especially sleeping in a beautiful four-poster bed. Our room had lovely views out of the high mullioned windows of the gardens, walls and church beyond and we were impressed with thoughtful little touches such as the complimentary decantor of sherry, sweets and biscuits. The brocaded furnishings, panelling, wide, crackling fires, tapestries and portraits around the hotel were in keeping with the history of the castle and enhanced the atmosphere, as did the subtle lighting and classical music played discreetly in the dining-room. The food was delicious, the wine superb and the staff, without exception, friendly and attentive. A unique, memorable experience! Many thanks. No. It was one of the best places I've ever stayed and very special because it was an actual castle, with an interesting history.
Food was excellent. Washroom facilities were excellent. Grounds were beautiful, lots of places to take pictures. It was no better than a 3 star hotel with a fancy facade.
Being a taxi driver I have both delivered your guests and collected them for many years. They all spoke very well of the hotel, especially the Americans. Everyting about our stay was perfect, but my pocket now seriously hurts! The price!
The history that I knew of before hand was fascinating. More historical information was displayed in the Beauford room which added to the ambiance. I liked everything and thaought it was the most beautiful hotel ever. Nothing, everything was perfect everyone was very nice and very professional.
very comfortable, kindness
The history of the castle was fascinating, the service and food received was exceptional, this was a highlight of our UK visit, which was to see grandchildren but this was a highlight. Nothing
The setting of the Hotel in a Castle gave a romantic setting for a Valentine stay. The evening meal was excellent. I thought the TV in the room was too old for a Hotel of that quality and a discreet flat screen TV would have been better than a large old style set. I thought the breakfast did not come up to the quality of the evening meal and could have been obtained anywhere.
Free bucket of driving range ball or a free round of golf on the 9 hole par 3 course was nice
Friendly & efficient service
Boiler alarm went off at 5 am had to phone reception to turn it off this whole process took 25 mins. Organised an early breakfast 11 day in advance then on the day was told that breakfast would not be available early
It was a very attractive location. All was very pleasant and well presented. The room was well appointed and comfortable. Having missed the sign about checking in at the golf club, the hotel felt very unwelcoming, with no information on the door as to how to get in.
Friendly welcome, relaxed feel, lovely meal. If you usually stay Travelinn, Ibis etc.. stay here same-ish cost but far better and a golf course & driving range to boot. Breakfast from 07:30 could have done with 07:00 but not a major concern
Enjoyed a great game of golf, very good food and a friendly service.
comfy, spacious room. peaceful location
Noise from golfers at 0700 in the morning teeing off as my room was by 1st tee.
It was convenient for Thornbury where I attended a family social function in the Centre and did not want to use my car because of drinking. It was someway from the road if walking but on the otherhand it meant it was very quiet
Peace and quiet, friendly Limited menu
Staff, food and location
This is the second time we have stayed here and we were not disapointed, still the same level of comfort,, location is ideal for Gloucester shopping and we love the pool. Maybe next time we will try the Gym!
good spa facilities Have stayed here many times but has gone downhill, tired room, shocking breakfast in the room, and very poor food in the Moreton's restaurant. Some staff v good some v bad.
grounds and building Three weddings in two nights involved overcrowding and unacceptable noise at night
excellent food, good service, staff willing to help when required, overall one of the best hotels we have stayed in and will stay again. could do with a little more signs to reception, as we got lost several times and met others that were lost.
Visited Bath and the Cheddar Gorge Food could have been better but for the price we paid very reasonable
The surrounding area was absolutely beautiful. The inside of the hotel was very well done and felt very relaxed. I loved all the nooks and different paths going round the hotel which led you to explore the hotel. Unfortunately the gym was very hot - made it almost unbearable for me to work out. I think the changing rooms could also do with a revamp. Separate ladies showers would be nice.
A very impressive hotel, beautiful surroundings and grounds. Standard of food was superb. We stayed in a standard room just away from the main hotel building but the standard room was like an executive room in some other hotels I have stayed at, spacious, clean and warm. We stayed db&b and ate in the Morton Restaurant the menu did have supplements I have to say, but they were not in my opinion excessive, especially considering the standard of the food. Prices were expensive in the bar, and on a par with the Portsmouth Gunwharf - about £10 for a lager and large wine. But unless you really want to drink to excess, considering the standard of the hotel then not too bad really, and certain a little cheaper than some in London. The only other small issue that was quickly rectified was the incorrect billing, but mistakes happen and obviously for you to check before leaving. We really enjoyed our stay and we will definately return again in the near future. This has to be one of my favourite hotels in the Cotswold.
The building and layout, Orangery serving breakfast, the grounds. Room where too hot, perhaps some instruction as to how to turn down/off heating.
