It was in a good location Very spartan for 150 CHF a night
Nice hotel and rooms.
Nice staff, good food. On a busy main road and lots of traffic noise late into night meant we didn't get a lot of sleep. Also bar terrace was directly below our room so noise from patrons was very loud.
Free secure motorcycle parking, good breakfast and dinner
Staff were very welcoming and helpful Lack of car parking
everything, the road was closed, so we arrived at 12 midnight, they did not mind waiting up for us and also made us something to eat and drinks, rooms where great, highly recomended to anyone
The hotel staff were very friendly and thankfully spoke good english as my german is poor. We stayed in an apartment which is located a short distance away to the rear of the hotel, with its own underground car parking space. You can then use the hotel restaurant if required.
We felt extremely welcomed, the owner and staff were very kind and accommodating. These people know how to look after their customers. On arrival there was a problem with the room, it wasn't the type we had booked. They went to great lengths to give us different options and make sure we were happy with it. The food they offer is superb, made with local produce and you can taste the difference. We would have stayed a few more days if it wasn't so expensive. For this reason during this trip we spent most of our holidays in France and Italy and kept our stay in Switzerland to the minimum.
It was a disaster. My wife and I drove on the very steep mountain, narrow roads and its very far from the autobahn.Very disappointed won't stay there again.Accommodation was poor with regard to the cost we paid.
Nice location, friendly staff, good restaurant. Good value for money.
The quality of the food at dinner and that's it. Poor breakfast. Poor wellness facilities. Only 2 staff, one of which only speaks Italian and is not very friendly. Too expensive for the location (far from everything) and the quality of the rooms.
Great service, great views, and some of the best food we've ever had! After an epic day cycling through some high passes in freezing blizzards, this guest house was a godsend. Seriously, the restaurant was superb with great views of the mountains, and subtle flavours that are difficult to find these days. Delicious! We took the spa room, and though it didn't have a view it was clean and comfortable with a nice big jacuzzi that wasn't too noisy in its operation, and very soothing on our tired legs. The buffet breakfast was a simple continental affair with several types of bread, cereal, fruit, cold meats and cheese, and boiled eggs. All in all a beautiful little guest house with the restaurant being the highlight.
Hotel is sited in beautiful mountainous area, Room with jaccusi was good although there were 3 flights of stairs to climb with no lift to transport heavy cases. Room had one small window with no view. Restaurant was disorganised staff forgetting our drinks with the meal. We felt the Italian food was expensive here; Breakfast was no different.
To sleep for one night
The Chalet is unbelievably gorgeous, set in the most beautiful surroundings with very helpful friendly staff, delicious food (even as a vegetarian!) we absolutely loved it and are trying to think of an excuse to go back! The bedroom was a bit disappointing in that the 'double' was a twin and the standard was really that of a european travel lodge. We were in a 'silver' room which didn't seem particularly nice. We were obviously paying for the setting rather than the room.
Everything! The staff was wonderful. Our room was perfect. For a weekend getaway, away from everything hectic, this place is perfect. And the restaurant has amazing food! Can't think of anything!
The service at the hotel is excellent. The room was small but comfortable with an amazing view of the mountains. The breakfast could be better, the selection was extremely limited.
Beautiful location with mountains surrounding the village that the hotel was located in. Limited breakfast.
wellness area Poor breakfast, Italian speaking staff mainly, no TV, radio in the room, hotel far from everything
We have stayed here twice now, en route to Italy. The hotel is not far from the motorway but feels remote in a pretty mountain village. The staff are always charming and anxious to please.
its a family business and of course the politness and service we received from the owner A coffee or tea facility in the room, before someone goes down for breakfast. Also parking facilities, althougth owner allowed us to park in his private space. There were no signs at all on the road for the hotel, nobody around in the evening to ask and so difficult to find
During our stay at Defanti, we liked the service the most. As we had called in to be later, the staf didn't hesitate to stay and wait for us to arrive. Even after having arrived they served us drinks from the bar. We're very satisfied and have planned to use the hotel more often in the future. no
Very friendly and good staff. Clean rooms, good breakfast and dinner.
It was pretty average stop-over for the money. You didn't feel very welcome by the staff. But nothing to really complain about, it just wasn't a hotel you would make a point of going back to..
The staff were so helpful, warm and interesting--it's been owned by four generations! The food was good as well. The room was a little small but it worked.
A small and ancient family business with a hotel, restaurant, grocery and gas station. Perfect for overnight stay. Simple but good menu for about Euro 25,At the back of the hotel no disturbance of the trains going by in the front ( at about 200 meters). No elevator. With 3 floors. Beds, especially 3rd bed not big for adults.
quick assess to the hotel fron highway, we used the hotel as transit hotel on our way to Italy. Simple hotel but nice atmosphere
Size of the hotel (quite small), pleasant family atmosphere, comfortable room with quite big bathroom (need not be the case in all rooms!). Somewhat noisy environment (railway, local road, motorway nearby). It's no surprise, considering the location in a narrow spectacular valley with all the traffic up and down San Gottardo. When you shut the window, however, the room is quiet enough.
Excellent value for money. Owner couple is extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean. Adjacent gas station owened by same fellow carries benzin at a reasonable price. Town has absolutely nothing to offer. Its a pitstop to break the journey. I was a bit skeptical about room facing busy railway tracks across the street from prior reviews but this really is not an issue since windows eliminate 80% of sound when shut.
cheap and basic but very clean. welcoming family staff and excellent food close to small train line
Location, excellent food, frienbliness of the owners. None
Very friendly family and the son spoke english so good. Delicious food also!! A little noisy, because the motorway and the railway are near.
The Owners and operators were very friendly and helpful. Both the hotel and the restaurant were spotless. The restaurant food and service were great!
Good for a short stay, easy to find and parking on site. Basic, slightly dated but clean and comfortable. Staff were helpful. Food is locally sourced and very fresh - would definately recommend the hand-made pasta!
Very friendly people and a very clean room! Only 7 km after the Gotthard tunnel. Good stay during the trip to Italy.
It's a family hotel and the staff are friendly, helpful and thoughtful. Food was good and the house merlot was excellent. it's a simple hotel so don't expect anything particulalry snazzy. But as an overnight it's great.
Kindness of staff. They don't want to sell, but to give you a pleasant stay (and dinner). No.
The staff was friendly and the hotel was clean. If you purchase the 5 franc breakfast, be aware that it is bread and coffee.
Ideal location at bottom of Gotthard Pass. Directly opposite the station. Hotel was a bit utilitarian and with laminate floors throughout was very noisy. The disco attached to the hotel played loud music that reverberated through the room until 3am. Inconsiderate and noisy guests returning to rooms after the disco kept us awake until 4am.
Location bed was hard and uncomfortable
Ideal travel trough Hotel, located immediatly next to Gothard Tunnel
Optimal position for a stop-over during long trip. Right services for your money. Too many flies in the breakfast room.
the family room was huge and the staff were friendly and helpfull. The on site pizza restteraunt served great food
The hotel is in a good location if your traveling to Italy as we were (its right at the southern exit of the gothard tunnel),although no English was spoken it wasnt a problem, the propierters were very friendly.Nice resteraunt and bar. The end fell off the bed when we walked into the room. The breakfast was basic but plentyful
Very close to train station, but room was not noisy. Large size room and bathroom. Staff have limited or no English
The restaurant was very good for dinner. The beds were very squeaky every time someone rolled over you would be awakened by the squeak.
It was adequate no
Efficient service. Good. fairly priced, restaurant and bar.
The attention to detail in the room- it was old but things like tissues, slippers, etc were good. The view was very good. The room was very small & I could hear other guests walking around in their rooms, and the hotel was difficult to find.
I especially liked the very friendly, personal, familiar and helpful way of the reception personnel. The view from the room and terrasse was gorgeous and the pool was nice. I didn't like the old furnishing (seventies style) in the room.
Day view, night view, nature, city and country in one place.
Fantastic view on the Lago Maggiore, free shuttle service to downtown, very friendly service
Excellent view, wonderful location. You should get this hotel if you like a family style with rustic ambiance and like to eat what hunters bring back from expeditions. We were tired and wanted a light dinner. The food card was extremely expensive and when we inquired about a cheap, simple food that was not listed on the card you could see how the waiter was angry and getting pretty unfriendly. Personally I found the food card pretty uninteresting.
Balcony, excellent view of lake. Courteous staff. Good breakfast and nice dinners.
Lake view in the night It's good 2kms away from the city.
Lake view, very clean, staff courtesy, swimming pool Small room
Excellent Panoramic View, Nice Balkony, friendly stuff, breakfast is also good. Very small Bathroom, very expensive Swisscom WLAN
Caring and nice staff to ensure I get the best out of my stay. Very good food at the restaurant and breakfast with fresh bred. Fantastic view on the lake from the rooms (with balcony) and the swimming pool. In the nice and typical village of Brione sopra Minusio. Quiet environment. Comfortable bed. Room furniture would need to be replaced for more style.
Complete Hotel seemed to be renovated recently. Old details where nicely kept into the new designs.
Small, but very clean room. Very good breakfast. Fabulous location. Staff was courteous but a bit cold. Price seemed a bit high.
Set in a lovely village the Hotel is beautifully decorated with flowers. The room was spacious and very clean We were the only couple in the hotel that night and due to energy savings the interior lights in halls and passage ways were unlit as they were on timed switches. A light in the entrance hall /reception would have been better.
Staff is excellent, went out of their way to assist us with a non hotel related issue. Internet access was good. Scenery was excellent in the area and from the hotel. Rooms were quiet. Architecture and hotel decor was excellent. Food menu was good. Food was pretty expensive, however, I do not have a comparison to reference with other hotels in the area.
The hotel felt very cozy and warm and the hIstorical significance was appealing to me. The restaurant was excellent and offered wonderful local and regional specialties. Breakfast was also great, very generous. Free wifi was definitely appreciated. Professional staff. No.
Location excellent. Nice room, shower & toilt facilities. Restaurant & check-in staff were very helpful Noi Internet. Breakfast variety lacking.
we had a room with balcony which had very good views of the mountains
It is comparatively cheap The staff could be friendlier
The friendly staff and the good food served at their restaurant.
Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent value for money. Rooms well equipped and very clean.
Friendly helpful staff, convenient location. Perfectly satisfactory stay. Pity about the massive construction site across the road, but this did not inconvenience us.
Rooms were clean, good location. Old, shower in the bedroom, food not excellent and limited choice at breakfast.
The hotel was well placed to explore the mountains, we were on motorcycles, the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful.
Clean, correct. OK for a one-night stopover. Breakfast not great.
The Hotel was basic but comfortable. Restaurant good.
Location great, staff nice, good atmosphere. I think our room was over thkitchen and there was a very noisy compressor running all night,(freezer, drinks chiller?) which was a pain as otherwise a good place. Sadly we were driving through from Italy to uk so wanted our sleep badly and this would stop me going again.
The staff were pleasant and competent and also eager to please. Clean and well kept simple rooms offered good value for the money.
Very good service, nice room
Absolutely terrific staff: friendly, enthusiastic, energetic. Excellent restaurant -- both a regular menu and a pizzeria are available, and the food at both was very good. That's especially commendable given how far off the beaten track the village of Olivone is. The breakfast buffet was a bit meager -- but then again, the village is far enough off the beaten track that organizing something more extensive may not be possible at 7 o'clock in the morning.
The very helpful staff and the excellent food. The mattresses were to old and soggy (soft). Had are bad back ache.
Very friendly and helpful owner/manager. We hadn't realised this part of Switzerland was Italian speaking so we had no phrase book and he went out of his way to help us with this. Dinner was lovely and authentic - you could watch your pizza being made if you wished to. More by luck than design, the TV channel selection inc England v Russia playing soccer on the night we stayed. Location of hotel is in a very picturesque valley in the Alps. Continental breakfast selection was good and you could eat and drink as much as you wanted to and fresh supplies were constantly brought to the table. N/A - we anticipate returning.
Very friendly stuff. Comfortable beds.
The view from the hotel was excellent, the staff were very helpfull, room was extremely clean with a very comfortable bed & the breakfast was very relaxed with a good selection of breakfast dishes. No, everything was more than satisfactory.
Friendly staff, quiet and clean rooms. Not luxury but good value for money. Breakfast was ok
Spacious room, clean smart furnishings, mountain views, helpful and friendly staff
very good location near St. Gottardo Tunnel. Warm room with excellent shower. Ok breakfast with fresh bread (sunday morning) and possible to have breakfast from 7.30pm Had to pay with cash. Credit card not excepted. Fortunately we had the euros. also did not like that Hotel waas removed from bookings.com website which neccesitated a telephone call to ensure booking was secure.
Easy to find, good location Hotel is very simple, I'd rather say it is 2 stars than 3 - you have minimum what is needed and it's fine, but it is definetely not 3 stars hotel
