Pros: A very good breakfast and a fabulous surrounding. A super friendly host.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I can only subscribe to everything nice that has been written by other travellers. Comfort is of great standard, cleanliness without fault and breakfast one of the best I have ever tasted, anywhere in the world! Also noteworthy: the existence of a wall lift for wheelchairs, very discreetly integrated in a tasteful interior decoration.
Cons: Nothing to do with the accomodation itself, but fellow travellers should be aware that there are no restaurants close by (although there are a few very good ones at a nearby village!) and that, although the house is situated at the bottom of a deadend street, they can take the car through the medieval gate at the entrance of the village and drive (carefully) till a small parking lot just in front. Useful to know, in case of heavy lugagge!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Tania, our hostess, the location, the breakfast, the bed, the shower. I all seriousness this accommodation is superior in every way. Tania was amazing and the breakfasts were huge and tasty. Parking was steps away from the front door. We will speak of this stay for years to come and probably measure future stays against this one. Thanks Tania.
Cons: N/a

Pros: This is a unique property in a more remote area. We stopped here so we could take a nighttime tour of the famous Foz Coa rock art with the guest house owner, who is a licensed guide. And don't miss the breakfast, absolutely delicious! (The home made jams are just fantastic!) Free parking in front of the house.
Cons: The bed was a bit narrow, but we declined a free upgrade in a room with a larger one suggested by the owner at arrival.

Cons: Sensor automatic light in the bathroom cannot be turned off - too bright suddenly when one goes to the bathroom at night.

Pros: Very efficient and professionally-run. Good recommendations for local restaurants.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful place... old Monastery converted to Hotel/Guesthouse. We rented the largest house and it was very nice indeed.! Antique furnishings, views of grazing cows..! A place one wants to stay longer... Bigger bedroom had aircon..which was nice. Very quiet. Good breakfast in a gorgeous setting.! Recommended.
Cons: No food service... but nearest small town has plenty of choices. Bathroom could use some attention/upgrade. Always a shower for ones backside [bidet] but hardly one for the rest of ones body.!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great (though remote) location, brilliant for walking in Faia Brava and on the long distance Coa Valley trail. Very nice facilities, great pool. They are preparing a beautiful short walking trail to a nearby viewing point (I saw a golden eagle above the village, and you can hear nightingales and red-necked night jars from within the village!). The staff tell me they are building a restaurant / indoor communal area which I'm sure will enhance things further. Charming old village. A few dogs around to bark occasionally, depending which bit of complex you're in, but that seems standard in Portugal! Good luck to this enterprising project.
Cons: Currently it's 20km or so to a restaurant, but they are changing this. When they complete their restaurant it will have a great view and be a perfect place to relax. I will come back!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The stone work and village are amazing
Cons: Wifi was only available in reception
10.0 Excellent
Pros: If you want to stay in real Portugal village , but with comfort - this is the place. Only few people live in the village, so no shops or restaurants. In the morning you could see real rural life. We will come back!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Cidadelhe is a pictoresque stone village with beautiful surrounding landscape. The family that runs the hotel is the perfect host, always making sure we're comfortable and have everything we need. Large and pleasant swimming pool. Very quiet. Price/quality difficult to beat in Portugal. Very complete breakfast served at budget price. The hosts have a sound knowledge of the region and can advice on best visits and trackings. We're a Portuguese-Dutch family of five; the children specially enjoyed the one-week stay. Spotting wild horses nearby, all the hours spent at the pool and the kindness of these hosts will be remembered. Obrigado!
Cons: The interior decoration of the rooms could have more elements of the region and sort of landscape. It could be a hotel/hostel room anywhere in any small town and not an accommodation that reflects its surroundings.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The hosts were very friendly and helpful!!! We didn't realise there was a swimming pool, which was so exciting as it was 38 degrees when we were there. The village has to be seen to be believed, stunning and I'm sure very much in the up once the restoration is complete. It was very romantic and with so much history - everything is made of solid granite. They just opened a new museum there for the pallium made in 1707- see Jose saramago, journey to Portugal.
Cons: At the moment there are no shops / bars in the village so you need to bring everything with you. It's quite a drive from the nearby town so this takes some planning, however the roads are fine and the area is beautiful to drive though. There is a fridge and a microwave that you can use at the property. Google maps tried to send us to Pinhel, but the property is in Cidadelhe so watch out for this.

9.6 Excellent
Pros: The people
8.8 Excellent
Pros: This is the second time we have stayed here and it still impresses us, i have brought motorcycling friends here for the past two years and they all have rated this place as there new favourite, it is lke going back to a forgotten time where everything is in slow motion, if you like the modern world this probably wont suit you, but if you want the real old Portugal with a castle on your door step then this is for you.the owner's dont speak much english but we communicated with good old fashioned gestures and hand signals, they organised a taxi for two nights to get us to the next town for dinner which was excellent and great value.
Cons: We all agreed that this place is a hidden gem and should not be improved or altered, we had no complaints or faults and thought it was fantastic.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The warm welcome by the hosts, the beautiful setting.
Cons: The room was cold in spite a a big pile of covers but the setting, the warm fire in the sitting room, and the most generous hosts made it all worthwhile!

Pros: We stayed in the T0 apartment. Modern small apartment with well furnished kitchenette. Nice bathroom. The setting is very nice with olive trees and farm animals in front of the apartment. The farm is very well kept .The village of Pinhel is very close by car.
Cons: Do not expect special hospitality when you arrive. We waited 10 minutes outside the gate although we phoned twice to indicate our arrival hours. Our apartment had not been previously heated nor aired (which is not nice in the winter peak). The bed for our child had not been prepared although we paid an extra of 20 euros/night). During the day it was not possible to visit the farm (the gates seemed to be closed to further sections announced in the description of the farm). No breakfast and no cleaning services for 105 euros a night is not a good value for money.
