Delightful Inn in small German town with real Old World charm, and very friendly and helpful staff/owner. This hotel is along the old main street, which is a narrow cobble street. Very infrequent car traffic so road noise is minimal. Behind are the well-forested surrounding hills. A self-serve breakfast with various breads/buns, jams, and sliced cold meats was delicious. I was concerned that my room directly above the restaurant part of the hotel would be noisy, but I didn't hear anything from below, nor did I notice any smoking odors. Much less expensive and roomier than the large hotel on the hill (10 minutes) where my conference took place.
The hotel is not an upscale experience which is one of its charms. It has the feel of an old large inn/ski lodge in the center of town. The rooms are large and have lovely views of the beautiful surrounding Thuringian Forest in addition to the sound of a stream sluicing by. The buffet breakfast was good though not as vast and varied as some we enjoyed on our trip. The walk from the rail station is a bit of a hike with luggage, though the trainride to Friedrichroda is lovely and fun. The area is loaded with hiking opportunities. The hotel is a good deal for the money and the staff very friendly.
the friendly service rooms did not seem to be non-smoking
We wanted a few days away with our granddaughter from Berlin and found the Deutscher Hof excellent. Very comforable with friendly staff.
