outstanding appearance of the hotel (which is actually the village itself), excellent customer service, staff is attentive to every detail, nice restaurant, perfect and very cosy breakfast, gourmet project overall
The authenticity of the restoration of this ancient poor mountaintop town. This was not a Hollywood version of what it should have been like, but rather a respectful approach to restoring enough of the town to make it habitable for 21st century sensibilities. No.
MAGICAL. This place is like going back in time in Abruzzo, fascinating restoration of an ancient way of life with a working fireplace in your room and yet radient heat in the ancient-seeming tile floors - diffused electric lighting supplemented by candles, a lovely medieval village to expolore, castles and mountains at your door - so lovely. Be sure to eat in their restaurant at night - authentic hand-made food, excellent wines and a knowledgable staff proud to share their offerings with you. The furnishings are all quite authentic - the beds are snug and comfortable but there was no snug comfy chair to sit in while watching the fire ( this kind of furnishing not authentic to the period) but only small hard very authentic ladder-back chairs. I ended up improvising with a bed pillow on the radient-heated tile.
Hotel is located amid the National Parks of Abruzzo with surrounding scenes superior to filming locations in "The Sound of Music" (Salzburg area). Medieval town partially restored with attention to minimal and true historical character but an overlay of unpretentious elegance. Staff is over-the-top friendly and helpful in genuine way. Room is rustic but ultra-modern in toilet/tub plumbing etc. Bed is large but you need to like a very firm mattress. Many details stay true to local, historical character from the artisan foods served to the shampoo provided. A once in a lifetime experience.
Excellent staff in a unique location. Not like any other hotel as it is spread around the town. Like living in a former time.At night the village is yours. The restaurant is very good. It is more an experience than a hotel stay. The rooms are dark in keeping with the theme. A little more lighting would be good. Not for everybody - the disabled would not cope.Relatively expensive.
Only one hotel in L'Aquila on booking at this time. There were no meat products or eggs for breakfast. Rooms should also be cleaned under the beds.
Clean room & a decent size, hotel easy to locate on ss17 just off the autostrada. Restaurant waiter service good. Cafe bar good. Bedroom chilly because heating didn't work, despite several reports to staff. Restaurant evening meal poor quality & over-priced.
Very friendly family owned hotel on the outskirts of L'Aquila so very quiet. Thought the red room which we stayed in was a bit over the top - made the room very dark - but very comfortable.
Unexpected swimming pool! Also Excellent food, at an unbelievable price. 45Euro for 2 people, eating 3 courses with aperitifs, wine and liqeuers. Accommodation was separate from the main building like a motel. Each room has its own access.
The hotel was on the main road. If you are traveling around the national park it is very convenient place to stop by. The staffs are very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a room in a new part of the hotel. It was very new and clean but decolation was a bit like a cheap motel.
Hotel staff very friendly. The breakfast was very good and by far the best presented of all the places we stayed (10 in total). We ate in the restaurant at night and can recommend the antipasti. The room was dark and therefore probably only suitable for a short stay.
Good bus links to city, Staff polite and helpful. Could use a better bar.
Quiet location, friendly staff. The hotel manager went out of his way to make sure I got everything I needed. I was annoyed by a fly in my room, but I guess that's part of italian summer...
The owner and his staff took great care of us. Very helpful and spoiling us with a superb breakfast.
The management and staff were very friendly, helpful, and hospitable. The restaurant was very informal but the food was excellent. The usual, typical continental breakfast was improved by the beautifully presented fresh fruit salad, and of course, the coffee was excellent. We were given suggestions of routes to tour and given a comprehensive booklet of the area. Would return to this hotel. The hotel is quite a long way from L'Aquilla, about 10 mins drive and was quite difficult to find; the sat. nav in the car would not accept the address. We entered the name of the next village which is San Vittorino to get on the right road and succeeded then.
Friendly welcome, and a large room. Both breakfast and evening meals were excellent.
quiet, very friendly staff, location Actually, the hotel is not in L'Aquila, as expected. Could not locate the hotel with GPS and people in L'Aquila did not know about it.
Great position for exploring area. Reception staff very good. Blackout blind/shutter great for blocking sun out bedroom. Lacked tea/coffee facilities in room. Hotel very quiet, but other guest that checked in put in room next to ours which gave us some noise, easily avoided.
Stayed the week before the earthquake, thoughts are with the lovely people of this town
Friendly staff Worst breakfast ever...they had run out of bread. When I asked to speak to the manager they said he was in Rome, so was the owner! Fruit basket in buffet contained rotten fruit, which according to the waitress, was due to the central heating!
Proximity to central L'Aquila, car-parking facilities, lack of noise particularly at night, and very friendly and obliging staff No real bar, other than at reception, which encouraged us to go out in the evening, every evening. Otherwise no real complaints
Location easy to find. Aircon room comfortable. Good breakfast. We were told that because of the earthquake that dinner was limited. We were offered a salmon starter and shown a sea bass for main course. No prices were offered. We asked for these but were given no reply. When our bill came we had been charged 96 euros for the sea bass. This was wholly unacceptable and a total rip off. Beware!!
Clean,Friendly service, Reasonably priced, car parking close to entrance and lifts to floors Not particularly easy to locate if as we are English tourers
Convenient: close to superstada and not far from centro storico. On site parking.
The room, the staff, breakfast. l missed to have dinner there, because l could not find any restaurants in the city. l liked everything!
Good breakfast. One staff member was very rude and judged us upon arrival. However not all staff were as judgemental.
great location. Staff were friendly and helpful.
extremely nice staff! very helpful and friendly. we had a small room but it offered a spectacular view on the mountains
Very accomodating staff, lovely people, excellent breakfast Room a bit smaller than hoped for
Good location for city centre. Helpful staff.
Good breakfast, if the town ever reopens the hotel is in a great position, at the moment it's a 4km walk from the railway station over priced
Prompt friendly service..helpful staff L'aquila was a ghost town closed off by the army because of the earthquake so life not normal in the town, but it was interesting to see devastation.
Nice hotel in a "ghost" town. Only building which is still open after the earthquake in April. All shops/ restaurants in the neighborhood are closed.
nice hotel in excellent location. highly recommend.
It was incredible. The manager called me within 10 minutes of my booking to find out about my room preferences. The apartment was in a restored 15th-century building, completely decorated by local artisans. Even the china and light fixtures were hand made. Modern bath, shower, robe, etc. Warm bread and pastries were brought to your door in the a.m. with the paper. You had your own refrigerator in your mini-kitchen which the hotel supplied with fresh milk and water. Definitely a 4-star hotel for a great price! No.
Beautifully designed apartment with many luxurious features. The most comfortable bed and pillows of our trip! It was so good to have a kitchen with a cooker, hob, fridge, cooking utensils and a kettle. Rodolfo and Diana were so helpful and friendly. We were recommended Cristina's Restaurant for dinner (5 minutes walk) and it was excellent. TV reception was very poor on most channels. A CD player or radio in the apartment would be a good addition. There was internet access to play music but this was an extra cost.
easy parking for the location; good rooms lack of breakfast selection and bar selection could be improved
Convenient location, excellent breakfast. Clean, comfortable room. There were parties that disrupted my stay as these are held directly above the rooms. The hotel did compensate me when I complained.
The friendliness of all the staff, and the excellent design - the loft bedroom was perect for our family of three.
Excellent stylish young hotel in a great location, with a very good restaurant. Very attentive and helpful manager - who is prepared to help arrange rides for hikers in the Abruzzi mountains.
I stayed with my wife at the hotel from 14 to 17 August 2008. It is very good located in the beatuful town L'Aquila. Thanks to the staff there is warm and friendly atmosphere. I woul like to note especially the careful attitude to his work of Luigi at the reception desk. Thank you.
The staff was extremely attentive and hospitable. I would stongly recommend this hotel. The room was very clean No
excellent location along the highway Rome-Pescara; many facilities; quiet and relaxing position. the restaurant may look too design and cold for the location but breakfast was excellent.
The restaurant side attached to the hotel had excellent food. We ate there often. The breakfast left much to be desired.
Spacious rooms, clean and with all facilities - serviceminded reception - situated central in the village - good parking facilities. No english speaking staff in restaurant - rather high noice level from bar next to restaurant - necessary to take credit card away instead of billing by the table (within sight!)
Wonderful staff, great food, nightly entertainment, very clean and nice rooms. Next to the Pescara rivers. Excellent location in the small town of Popoli in Abruzzo. Even though it's essentially the only hotel in this small town, the hotel still strives to do it's best!
Beautiful place to stay
the room we get was excelent and very clean.staff was helpful very poor breakfast. no facilities
clean, friendly atmosphere although they advertised they were English speaking, they were not
Owner/staff very courteous and helpful; parking Internet access spotty - no printer for guests
Central to what i needed and on site car parking. Front counter staff very helpful. Wi-fi only in foyer and not in rooms.
the breakfast no
A very friendly atmosphere from the personel and very good food both at the lunch and dinner
Extremely helpful and friendly staff.
The front desk staff were extremely helpful and unfailingly courteous. The hotel was pleasant and quite quiet despite being on a busy street. My sons were assisted with using the internet, and treated courteously despite being children. We did not have to make requests on their behalf; this was much appreciated. Breakfast was excellent. Hotel Lory represented very good value for money overall The only down side was an ongoing battle to obtain sufficient large towels and toilet paper. Shower cubicles were very small and a little slippery. Car park was often overfull. Tea and coffee making facilcites in the room would have been appreciated.
