The 10 best hotels in Fort Myers

Discover the top hotels of fabulous Fort Myers, hand-picked by Florida experts Simon and Susan Veness.
Simon & Susan Veness
December 6, 2023

Thomas Edison was among the first tourists to take a shine to Fort Myers, way back in 1885. It soon brought Henry Ford to town, too, giving this lovely Southeast Florida hideaway a celebrity cachet long before anyone thought of celebrity cachet. Given that these two giants of industry thought this was an ideal spot for winter visits, it seemed inevitable Fort Myers would go on to attract a wide selection of high-quality hotels. Not only that, as the area’s tourism reputation grew, the city’s influence also expanded to encompass the surrounding areas of Fort Myers Beach, Cape Coral, and the barrier islands of Captiva and Sanibel, creating a niche appeal for luxury resorts. That trend for deluxe vacation experiences has only strengthened in the 21st century, and we are delighted because it allows us to present some genuine hotel highlights for this area, with a tantalizing top 10 best hotels in Fort Meyers.

1.

Marriott Sanibel Harbour Resort & Spa

Address:

17260 Harbour Pointe Drive

Price:

$246-763/night

Impressive, beautiful and feature-packed are just four words we typically use about the eye-catching Marriott Sanibel Harbour Resort & Spa, while most guests usually just go “wow!” The idyllic location, set among 85 acres of lush, tropical landscape on the Punta Rassa peninsula with views across the bay to Captiva and Sanibel, is the first clue a special experience awaits guests here.
The second clue is the glittering 11-story main building and its wealth of activities. With five full-dining choices, the dining is another standout feature, from upscale Courtside Steakhouse to Charley’s Cabana Bay, as is the heavenly pampering of The Spa at Sanibel Harbour.
This is also somewhere that revels in the outdoors, with a wide array of water sports on hand, as well as hiking, bicycle rentals, and kayaking. The 347 rooms and suites complete an overall package that still makes us go “wow!” too.

2.

Luminary Hotel & Co., Autograph Collection

Address:

2200 Edwards Drive

Price:

$240-1136/night

Once you get used to the strange name of this distinctive Marriott Autograph Collection hotel, which pays homage to the historic luminaries like Thomas Edison and Henry Ford who left their mark on the city, everything quickly falls into place. Original, sleek, and inventive, the hotel occupies a prime site in the downtown’s River District, with extensive views over the Caloosahatchee River.
With a fresh, contemporary take on hotel design and ethos, the Luminary uses story-telling and high-quality features – like the stylish fourth floor pool and innovative rooms and suites – to create an upscale environment of real 21st century splendor. The crowning glory is literally the crowing glory, however.
The Beacon Social Drinkery is the 12th-floor rooftop bar and lounge that offers hand-crafted cocktails, craft beers, and fine wines, along with small-plate delicacies and a gorgeous, wide-ranging vista that sets the seal on a scintillating hotel experience.

3.

Edison Beach House

Address:

830 Estero Boulevard

Price:

$52-454/night

We’ve said it before, but it’s worth repeating: simplicity can be luxury if it’s done well. At Edison Beach House, it is done extremely well. With its ideal oceanfront location on Fort Myers Beach, the Edison commands beachy perfection, with the kind of dreamy sea views that usually grace the cover of glossy travel magazines.
Each of the 24 recently remodeled deluxe suites provide that perfect ocean panorama, as well as full kitchens with all modern conveniences, all set inside a five-story edifice that is furnished in old-world Florida charm. Other standout features include the sleek pool deck that offers a commanding view of the beach, free Wi-Fi, and parking.
If you’re looking to get the best of Fort Myers Beach, the Edison is only a short stroll from the Fort Myers Fishing Pier and bustling Times Square, with its array of restaurants and boutique shops.

4.

Gullwing Beach Resort

Address:

6620 Estero Boulevard

Price:

$284-1990/night

For sheer spaciousness and indulgent condo-style suites, Gullwing Beach Resort is already a great option. When you then add in the extra elements such as the idyllic beachfront location – on the lower half of Fort Myers Beach but still within a short distance of popular features such as Lovers Key State Park and the island’s Times Square – a tennis court and elegant swimming pool, this is truly a tropical paradise.
The suites are configured in one, two and three-bedroom options to appeal to families and couples alike, and we think they also make for a particularly romantic retreat. A generous balcony is matched by plenty of living space, and luxurious bathrooms that have all undergone recent renovations.
On top of that, if you’re not into doing the cooking on any evening, we highly recommend the scenic setting of nearby Matanzas on the Bay for some of the best local seafood.

5.

Tiki On The Beach

Address:

4360 Estero Boulevard

It’s tempting just to list the litany of five-star reviews of Tiki On The Beach to underline its luxury hotel appeal on Fort Myers Beach, but that would be to short-change future guests of the full depth and breadth of the resort’s vacation perfection.
Situated right on the glittering seven miles of white sands that make up Fort Myers Beach, but set slightly apart from the barrier island’s downtown hustle-bustle for a totally peaceful tropical idyll, this is an exercise in pure feet-in-the-sand vacation relaxation.
With only 11 rooms split between two low-rise buildings, there is a proper individual touch to each one, ensuring that features such as the covered patio, ceiling fans, masses of living space, and well-equipped kitchens really shine.
When you’re ready to join in the island life, the shops and restaurants of Times Square and the lively downtown are only a few minutes’ drive away.

6.

The Lighthouse Resort Inn & Suites

Address:

1051 5th Street

Price:

$71-1815/night

Ideal location? Check. Gorgeous, tropically-themed rooms? Check. World Famous Tiki Bar? Yes, the Lighthouse Resort Inn & Suites has got that, too. In fact, the Tiki Bar is genuinely a local celebrity, along Fort Myers Beach, earning a Restaurant Guru award in 2021.
It all fits in beautifully with the resort’s situation right on the Times Square entertainment district of the island, providing a focal point for guests beside one of the two seasonally heated pools, but also just a short, 70-yard stroll to the beach.
The eight different room varieties offer configurations for families and couples alike, with light, bright decor and super-comfy beds, plus full kitchens.
The nearby Yucatan Beach Stand offers classic island fare for breakfast, lunch. and dinner daily – with both indoor and al fresco dining. Our tip here is to save room for dessert, with various home-made specialties daily.

7.

The Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village

Address:

5951 Silver King Boulevard

Price:

$199-1210/night

If you’re looking for that unique resort retreat that offers a genuine slice of Florida as well as a true luxurious touch, seek out the Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village. This magnificent 19-story edifice is the cornerstone of a deluxe development of resort, shops and marina.
Situated on the tip of the Cape Coral peninsula, adjacent to Matlacha Pass National Wildlife Refuge and with views across to the barrier islands, this sleek tower boasts a terrific range of facilities and creature comforts – most notably daily yoga classes, two-hour bike rentals, multiple swimming pools, and two superb restaurants.
Don’t miss the delicious seafood of Marker 92 Waterfront Bar & Bistro in particular, with its elegant indoor dining room and outdoor terrace. It is all crowned by sumptuous rooms, featuring the signature Westin Heavenly® Bed, rich bath amenities, and the essential private balcony for enjoying the superb nightly sunsets.

8.

DoubleTree by Hilton Fort Myers at Bell Tower Shops

The bright and breezy Bell Tower Shops in south Fort Myers have become a major lifestyle destination in recent years, boasting the likes of Dave & Buster’s arcade and bar, Regal movie theater, upscale Fresh Market supermarket, and bevy of restaurants.
Also firmly in this rich mix of big-city style is the Crowne Plaza hotel, a distinguished name on the Bell Tower line and a superb choice for that weekend away or retail therapy vacation. It is only a 10-minute drive to lovely Cape Coral and 15 minutes to Fort Myers Beach to provide a nice contrast as well as that essential beach vibe.
Rooms are beautifully furnished and packed with amenities such as refrigerators, large-screen TVs, and free Wi-Fi. The bathrooms feature walk-in showers, while the hotel also features an open-air pool, and a fitness center.

9.

Island Inn

Address:

3111 West Gulf Drive

Price:

$384-769/night

No visit to the Fort Myers area is complete without some time on blissful, secluded Sanibel Island. This tropical hideaway has been a low-rise but upscale gem for more than 100 years, and nowhere epitomizes it more than the boutique Island Inn.
This fully-refurbished luxury suites offering features 550 feet of pristine beachfront to provide the essential Sanibel occupation of beach-combing for shells. That’s only the start of a rich catalog of blissful island opportunities that also include bicycle, kayak, and paddle board rentals, along with barbecue grills spread throughout the property and free beach umbrellas.
The real key to the Island Inn, in our opinion, is the dazzling array of 49 all-new suites that go the extra mile for creature comforts such as full kitchens, private balconies, and gorgeous soft furnishings. Also popular as a wedding venue, the Inn remains a grand Florida experience on a small scale.

10.

Drury Inn & Suites Fort Myers Airport FGCU

Address:

9950 University Plaza Drive

Price:

$142-290/night

The Fort Myers location of the blossoming Drury Inn brand arrived in 2017, just in time to feed the city’s boom in aviation and education from the establishment of JetBlue Park at the airport and the growing recruitment of Florida Gulf Coast University.
Conveniently situated just off the pivotal coastal route of I-75 and Gulf Coast Town Center, the inn is also a value for money, considering the free continental breakfast, indoor swimming pool with hot tub, fitness center, and airport shuttle.
The premium facilities continue with wonderfully comfortable rooms that feature a refrigerator and microwave, while the suites add a furnished living area that is a boon for business folks.
And, while the Inn is primarily geared towards I-75 travelers and college associates, it is barely a 20-minute drive to Fort Myers Beach and a chance to indulge in that luxurious beachfront vibe.
