Excellent setting, beautiful building & gardens Rooms should be modernized
Very nice location We arrived at 9.30 pm, we said to receptionist that we would like to have the dinner in 30 minutes, we check in in the room and after 30 minutes come back to restaurant but...it was closed. Why didn't you say that the restaurant were closed in 30 minutes?
the atmosphere, historic building, the surrounding, the place the palace If we take into consideration the general European standard it doesn't meet the expectations of a 5 stars rather a 3 stars hotel If we compare to the Portugal standard it fits to a 4 stars hotel
The hotel is set in a great location and IT IS A PALACE. Also the restaurants provide excellent food at a reasonable price that I would travel for. The room itself was not anywhere near 5 star quality and was dissapointing. Old, tired, spacious, yes, but luxurious it was not.
Historic hotel in a spectacular natural setting with walking trails and gardens. The restaurant is excellent. Better signage on the walking trails and providing a better map of the surrounding parkland to guests would be helpful.
Nothing Does not smell good, furniture not changed since years, not well maintained hotel, absolutely not reached 5 stars standard
We loved it all but very expensive. Weknew that going in.
Fantastic situation and beautiful building. Where were the staff?
The peace and quiet and beautiful surroundings
Imposing hotel which has kept many of its early 20C features but provides modern standards of comfort in rooms and spa. Hotel is obviously dependent on business conferences at this time of year (autumn). Pity the lido is no longer in use - perhaps seasonal?
The setting is extremely good and the project to refurbish the hotel has been a great success.
I loved the food, it was excellent . The wine also was very good i didn't like the service and the pool closed
Its a nice and quiet hotel for a weekend retreat.
Fabulous place-a dream would love to return
It's a very beautiful building, with lots of old details still visible. Dinner was a 5* experience, my compliments to the waiters and chef. The indoor swimming pool and spa facilities were very nice as the outdoor one was already closed when we stayed there. The wooden floors made it noisy; you could hear the upstairs neighbour walk around and you would hear people passing by in the hallway. The indoor spa facilities could be improved by providing things like scrub salt and turning on all the facilities (sauna) during opening hours. Dinner wasn't only a 5* experience in service, but unfortunately also in price, compared to regular portuguese restaurants.
The hotel is fabulous and has a lot of potential but the inexperienced staff (or poorly trained) who do not pay attention to small details do not allow it to reach its full potential. The young lady on reception had NO customer service skills nor did the maitre D in the restaraunt. The food was good almost gourmet but the presentation, lack of vegetables and service down graded it. The champagne we ordered arrived in our room at 11.30
location, historical building with renovated rooms Breakfast should definitely start at least at 7 in the morning. Having to wait on the door for breakfast until 8 is not ideal
Nice hotel, recently refurbished, now with modern room amenities but having maintained the historical spirit of the public spaces It was empty ... no athmosphere. Probably only a few (less than 10, I would think) rooms occupied.
Beautiful palace, confortable rooms, good breakfast, very frienly personel
The informal atmosphere, friendly staff and location of the hotel made it an excellent centre for our stay
It is a charming hotel with an olympic swiming pool with plenty of entertainment for kids but also for adults. The charm of the past may be seen as old fashion for some people. I thought a bottle of water was offered each day, but only the first one is offered.
Cleanliness, kindness of staff and hotel location. Due to the huge amount of guests, the breakfast service wasn't the best.
It was a big hotel, the rooms were spaceous and clean. The swimming pool outside didn't have any water in it.
Children playroom Swiminmg pools Breakfast
Booking.com claim this hotel is about 12 miles from Coimbra. This is simply not the case its about 22 miles away by car. Really poorly located. Rip off prices
confortable beds, quite, nice surroundings door lock did not seem to be secure
Hotel cleanliness and food was very good. Very nice employees. The floor propagates too much noise and in the silence of the night that's very noticeable.
Nice for family. Good outside and indoor swimming pools. Friendly staff. The staff was friendly, but we had the feeling that there is a shortage of staff, namely at the restaurant and bar. The children's room was not too clean.
Almost everything, but specially the view from my room (and from the bar !). The walls are not exactly soundproof...and I was unlucky because there was a family with children in the room next door.
Friendliness of staff, view from room, leisure facilities. Limited choice of set dinner menu did not cater for English tastes e.g. one night choice of either veal or cuttle fish.
The Location of the Hotel and background is one of its most remarking features. You also can rely upon the staff to help you through your stay and enjoy its SPA. We also enjoyed the activities provided by Desafios Caramulo that you can sign in at the front desk,, but you always have to be advised that as they only perform the activities for a minimum number of participants some times you can be desappointed by the canceling of some of the activities the rooms need some refurbishment and they should try to increase the TV offer as its very limited
Great Hotel, Fabulous setting and the staff are very friendly and will do anything to enable your stay to be memorable. I was on business nearby and the staff let my wife stay longer in the room whilst I was at my appointment which was thoughtful. The view from the room is stunning. No I love this hotel.
friendly staff, relaxing atmosphere in family, comfort and the possibility of healthy physical activity nothing to mention
the quiet and the comfort
Lots of facilities from pool to excellent dining room. Lovely area with plenty of walking opportunities. Food very good apart from bones in the fish! We British! Not really enough proactive promotion by the hotel about its facilities.
The hotel was spacious set in nice surroundings and the staff helpfull, it was nice to have the pool as we had young children with us.
Great view, nice rural location, staff were friendly. Ate there one night and dinner was good. Had good spa packages. The leisure areas (indoor pool in particular) would benefit from some updating and maintenance. They are clean and are fine, but for a four star hotel, things like missing floor tiles on the pool floor should be replaced. Also it would be good if the hotel literature and information (i.e. on swimming pool opening hours) was translated into English for the ease of visitors who do not speak Portuguese.
Our stay was extremely pleasant and had no problems at all.
I like everything in this hotel, the staff was very friendly and helpful, the room was big and very clean, the breakfast was also good. The only thing that could be improved is the bathroom heating, there isn't one, although the room as one.
A charming hotel in a charming village, but also rather old fashioned for better and worse.
The friendliness of the staff and helpfulness
Relaxed ambience, good breakfast, excellent room near centre Dinner was a little rustic and casual!
Hotel basic enough but clean and very helpful friendly staff who went out of their way to get Elecrical adaptor and help out in any way they could. Had no complaints.
The staff are extremely helpful and could not do enough to help. Very convenient position in the town centre. Breakfast was good with a variety of options Although not terrible, the rooms could be improved by a good clean, especially dusting and the bathrooms to be cleaned for mould in the shower areas. This would increase my overal experience from good to excellent.
Friendliness of staff Restaurant in the hotel was "reasonable"
The hotel manager made every effort to to make my stay as welcoming as possible.
I could not fault the staff who were extremley helpful and nothing was too much effort. Excellent location for the town, restaurants and forest area. I feel the hotel could improve by cleaning the rooms more thoroughly, especially dusting and cleaning of the bathrooms at little more.
It was quirky full of old and interesting ornaments antiques and family photos. The hardest bed I have ever slept in. Apparently orthopaedic. The lady who attended to us spoke no english.
The atmosphere and style is great. The room was very comfortable. Excellent breakfast. Very quiet (only 3 rooms occupied). Overall, the best accommodation we had on our trip.
Charming old style house with lots of character. Lovely sorroundings with a swiming pool. Great abundant breakfast. Highly recomended if you want a few days away from city noise. I would only recommend placing some shower curtains in the bathrooms.
Great breakfast, beautiful house and decoration (if you like antics) Room was a bit outdated, no service all time around
the decoration was impressive, as was the building and the rooms. It is a luxury villa left by the owners with their stuff inside. It's a piece of luxurious history. The caretaker was absent late for check-in and generally the hotel seemed abandoned.
Rather unique place and great location in an old spa town. Fantastic breakfast . Pretty noisy when there were a number of other travellers.
met good people certain charm authentically furnished for some reson great numbrer of older lovely folks came to spend time at the pool etc though they had nothing to do with hotel. part of the reason to stay there is fewer customers not more.look for better options
The hotel was a very charming building, full of character and beautifully decorated, lovely setting and comfortable. Excellent breakfast.
The breakfast is excellent! The guest house is very different from traditional hotels. The hotel fells more like an old house that your visiting, and you can feel the life that people lived there with photos and decoration .The hotel is very well situated just a few steps from buçaco, other gardins and near restaurants. we didn't like the fact that there is nobody from the staff at night. The light from the corridor reaches the rooms although dimmed.
Very nice Guest House, typical with magnificent ancient decoration. Very clean and cosy. It is like a castle. My bedroom was big and the view over Luso was nice. Good breakfast for the price I paid. Because it is like an ancient castle, it hasn't elevator.
Size of the room and bathroom. Cleanliness of the room and hotel. The variety of the breakfast was not great.
The hotel was good for relaxing in a peaceful enviroment. Hotel was more for older people than young families.
The setting of the hotel was lovely and quiet. We were a little disappointed with the restaurant, it had a menu but only seemed to serve a choice of either a meat or fish dish.
The localization of the hotel inside the beautifull Curia park. The outside pool in the middle of the trees. Bikes available for free. Lack of information about other facilities like the Spa.
Good working free wifi, . Staff is very friendly and helpfull we booked 3 nights and cancelled 2 nights because of the room , the management should be ashamed of the devastating room and bed and of lack of cleaning staff. The hotel smells bad. Breakfast is below every comprehension you might have of a breakfast
Friendly attentive staff, good continental breakfast, clean room, great bath, ok elevators (failed three times), lovely location, convienient access to the velodromo event. elevators could be better
Very good value, friendly, clean and tidy None
The relaxed atmosphere and the friendly way in which the hotel people took care of you. The driving instructions after the exit from the main highway. It was confusing to the point of one getting lost.
helpful, friendly staff. Clean room no problems. noisy air conditioning, and badly behaved people in ajoining room (no a fault of the hotel, but not pleasant)
loud. not much insulation.
It is full of character, an once splendid 150-year-old mansion on top of a hill. High ceilings, quaint furniture, a pool set in a garden. Breakfast was scarce and unappealing, the ceiling in the bathroom needs cleaning.
Location and the age of the hotel. The staff were sometimes unfriendly.
It's really nice quiet place, like your old home in countryside. Quit near is Bousaqu forest for relax and just walking wi-fi connection available only near the reception desk
a lot of style, ancient, comfortable. no elavaitor!a lot of steps
We were looked after by the staff in a most friendly and helpful manner.<<
Swimming pool and relaxed athmosphere It was a bit run down
A peaceful, central location. Lovely, gracious rooms whose decor reflected the old worldliness of the hotel.
It is an old and well preserved design Hotel. Cleanliness of the bed clothes and towels. We had 2 double rooms on the 3rd floor, really nice views...
good location, friendly staff restaurant not open
Front desk person was very friendly and informative. Breakfast server was excellent and made us feel welcome. No complaints - it is a beautiful, clean and classy hotel.
Staff very friendly
Room was big, with balcony. Free Wireless Internet in Reception area. Parking very big. Hard to find with GPS. Position between 2 traffic roads. No English menu in Restaurants. Position is far from lake.
Excedllent food and hospitality Not much to do in the area
This was a nice, inexpensive European-style hotel. It was basic, but had everything we needed. The staff was friendly and accommodating.
This hotel is a family owned and operated which brought a home feel to my stay, great recommodations to local eateries and regional specialties. No complaints at all, very nice and great stay for me!
For the price, everything was ok in terms of confort and cleanningness.
the host family were wonderful and would do anything to make our stay comfortable, without being intrusive. Great value for money
The Staff speaks only Portugese and this Pension really needs some renovation, inside and outside.
Very charming old building, gives a feeling of home. Relaxed, no-stress environment, with good reception and attention. Excellent thermal area, near many interest spots. Lots of parking space. Excellent quality for price. Could have used AC, during hot summer nights it is very convenient.
Travel back in time. Very simple and honest. Calm, serene. Openhearted personnel. Interesting small town. Rather difficult to find in spite of satellite navigation... Quite worn down...
Friendly, helpful staff. Lovely breakfast. Free parking. Clean room. Excellent value for money.
Great service and very nice staff. We had a lovely time at the Pensao Lourenco. The surrounding area was beautiful, especially Luso.
