The Sunday's buffet lunch in the Hotel is fabulous.
Very quiet hotel No internet access, TV set a bit old
Conveniently situated as a base to explore the Douro valley. Helpful staff and excellent value for money.
Good price for a 4 star hotel.
Excellent value for money. Extremely nice staff, difficult to find anywhere else. Very interesting old town with a relaxing atmosphere.
Location and the city. Staff at the gym very nice. Unconfortable beds, rooms are a bit old and lack of decoration, the hotel allows people not installed in the hotel to use the pool, so when we intended to use the poll we had to sit on the flor cause there were no chirs available for hosts...
Location, View, Confort of the Room, Spa facilities, Silence and Breakfast. - Too dark in the room, - Restaurant for Dinner- food too heavy, lacking smoothness. - Check out- cold and not answering to a complaint I had (water leakeage in the shower room).
Beautifully designed in a very nice location. Excellent staff; friendly, helpful, efficient. Great breakfast and dining experiences. A highlight of our stay in Portugal.
Everything perfect for romance. The Villa option is apart from the main building but you have full privacy in return.
The hotel design, the beautiful scenario of the douro hills and the overall tranquility. The untidiness of the room. The layout and in-room glass partitions not allow a desirable level of intimacy/privacy. No particular attention or pampering from hotel staff.
The peace and quiet - almost never seeing another guest, even though you were almost full. The food was very good The "background" music was both a poor choice and played far too loud, especially in the restaurant.
The hotel has an excellent location and an impressive architecture. The staff is friendly but not professional style. The facilities don't work in an efficient way. The hotel is taciturn and with a lack of life and music. The spa is badly managed and the mechanical equipment often broken. Poor lighting.
The design of the hotel is just gorgeous, and I cannot find the right words to describe the feeling you experience from lying in the bed simply contemplating the most spectacular view over the river and the vineyards... (we got ourselves a Riverview Room, please do the same!). The spa... well, what can I say about the spa...? Is just amazing....!
A charming Hotel surounded by vineyard. The original house as been restaured giving the guess a mix of modern confort with a taste of tradition. Our Bedroom was big, well decorated, and very confortable. Bathroom was a very nice surprise very modern with only the finest materials. A final toutch was given by the Occitanne products. The breakfast is served in a large room with an excellent view. The buffet was five stars, we love the natural peaches. We finished with a nespresso coffee.
Very charming and confortable
When we had minor medical emergency, the staff responded immediately with true concern, which they showed throughout our stay. Pool and turkish bath were heavenly, very clean and well maintained. New carpet fumes in the hallway outside our room detracted from otherwise perfect stay.
Reception staff very helpful. Breakfast very good. Building light, airy and spacious. Restaurant very disappointing, let down by inefficient service and long waiting for menus, drinks, food.
gorgeous room, cool detail of having a window from the bathroom to the room and to the perfect douro view. unique view from the bar terrace at night. the swimming pool outside is actually a plastic tank. as usually, the single rooms are the least best ones, yet we pay the same as a couple.
rooms were to hot almost suffocating; breakfast incredible poor; parking for mini cars
Very good room, bathroom well equipped, and a very good quality breakfast.
I mostly liked the confort of the hotel (room included). The breakfast was fine. The breakfast room should be more sound efficient, any conversation we have over breakfast you can ear it all over the room.
Great location, easy to find, great views ( from all rooms). All facilities were great. Room was 2nd to none with lovely balcony. Limited parking at front, but we still got a spot quite easy.
Charming staff, wonderful common areas. Large room and bath. Wonderful setting on a large farm Hard to find
During our five weeks in Spain and Portugal this amazing quinta was by far the highlight of our hotel experiences on this or any other trip The building itself is furnished with such style and elegance we felt we were staying in a castle. The really fun thing is that many of the decorative items in the lovely rooms are actually for sale. It was like having a totally private, unhurried shopping experience! The English-speaking staff were extremely attentive, welcoming and helpful. We were encouraged to walk around the extensive vineyards and orchards and pick all the fruit we wanted. I cannot say enough good things about this amazing destination. It was totally awesome...we didn't want to leave, and are already talking about returning.
We enjoyed an unbelievable warm atmoshere in an environmet that was full of history. The decoration of the rooms and the whole area gives a strong flavor of Portugese history which we really appreciated. The dinner we had was a perfect example to learn about traditional cusine of this region - we will come back - quite soon - to stay a bit longer and relax.
Undiscovered gem. The hotel is a true notbleman's century old family room that is still occupied by the owners (couple with 2 children). It is in the middle of a huge farm / family estate (the drive from the gate to the house is > 2km). Impressive property with 3 large and formal sitting rooms and 3 large and formal dining rooms. Large bedrooms in the basement. Decoration possibly too ornate / kitsch for some. The hotel is not on the gps and is hard to find. Would be better if they give the gps information of a nearby loation instead (E.G. gas station), so that they only need to give instruction on how to reach the hotel on the last km.
We liked the countryside location yet convenient for Lamego and motorway access to the Douro valley. The propriertor herself gave us tips on what to see in various places. Our room was a thoughtful convertion of an outbuilding and gave us a sitting area as well as bedroom space on a mezzanine floor. Swimming pool about 100 metres walk from main house. Guests should be aware that the evening meal is 37.5 euros. It is reasonable value for money for a gourmet meal in a special location but the full meal is the only option offered.
I would recommend anybody in the area to stay at this hotel. This is not 5* Sheraton with plasma TV and state of the art air con but it is 5* character and comfort and friendliness. The food if you stay for dinner is very local and amazing good value and breakfast is as good as you will get anywhere. The building has been restored magnificently and if you are near the Douro it is a must.Although booked for one night did extend the booking to two nights as we were so impressed
The hotel is very beautiful designed and decorated, however do not let beauty mislead you. The clerk tried to be very helpful and to compensate us for all the trouble the hotel caused. When we were there - they had 2 weddings in halls situated next to the guest rooms. They allowed loud music to play until after midnight! We were there with 2 small children and it was horrible. It seems that they just do not care about their guests. the room was very smelly (smell like cat pee) and there was a showercup hang on the door).the room have a window and a door that opened to the outdoor dining room - so you couldn't open them as you had no privacy - and that was a major problem as there was no airconditioner in the room!!! I would not recommened this place to anyone.
the place is quiet and peacefull
Definitely the place to be if you want to explore the mid-section of the Douro River. A very spacious place, a huge bathroom, very quiet, perfect if you are looking for a resting place Just forget about the breakfast. Choices are close to nil, and their quality is 0. No regional products, no proper scrambled eggs, no proper juices, I even got rotten (although fresh) grapes. Skip the breakfast at this hotel and get a proper breakfast at a nearby restaurant called The Gentleman
Kind hotel stsff, clean, value for money No
Nice personal, clean, value for money No
The Douro Riverside with the Bars Cool swimmingpool
Good location for Douro valley The town itself is pretty unattractive with very little in the way of bars and restaurants so not suitable for long stays at this hotel. The main disappointment was that there was not outside eating facilities as advertised - were told that this is only used for special occasions. The weather was glorious so it was annoying to have to eat inside. Also, the swimming pool is next to a road - screened by hedges but still noisy.
it was short no restaurant on both evenings - kitchen said to be out of commission. Food was being served in dining room but only to Portuguese National jet-ski contestants, we were informed this food was brought in from another restaurant.
Nice, spacious, clean room. Very kind staff. And the best breakfast location ever! In the old dining room you feel like a royal.
beautiful house, very friendful atmosphere
The place is beautiful with its well cared garden and swimming pool. The breakfast was a cosy and social event. We got a cot and an extra bed for our children free of charge. The room was not specially beautiful. We found the hotel following a bus stop signal and an intuition. There was not any other signal! Not even a proper address.
what a wonderful place - despite our initial problem finding it - it is an absolute gem. Classed as a rural turism hotel it is set amid lovely grounds. rooms are quirky as befits an old building and it is run by a lovely old couple. Breakfast was first class, freshly pressed grape juice from vines in the garden, fresh figs - again picked from their garden, homemade jam and cake. an absolute gem.
Beautiful location just outside of the city center. THe hotel has the feel of an old country estate, with beautiful grounds, swimming pool, and wonderful and helpful staff. Nothing.
The hospitality and friendliness No
Very quiet environment in a lovely 18th century house. Most frendly owners who speak English (and Frensh). A "must" if you want to relax. Rooms are cool at night. A little bit hard to find when you arrive at te first time, but people in the villages arround are most frendly to help. Housekeeping is doing everything to please you, the environment is very clean.
The setting of the hotel Difficult to find, be prepared when you go there and do not believe only your navigation system
Very quiet location. Room was very hot. In August that is a big issue! Breakfast very very poor.
We spent two wonderful nights in Quinta do Ervedal in early october. The house and its surroundings are breathtaking and beautiful! The scenery is really something to remember. A nice pool, the comfortable bedroom, friendly staff and delicious food - all was there. You can easily take walks to the nature or maybe trips further up to the Douro valley. Or perhaps you just relax, read a book and enjoy the sunshine on the front yard. So thank you Isabel and Henrique for all your hospitality. We will definitely recommend your quinta to anyone who is interested!
Isabel & Henrique were kind, friendly & most obliging hosts at this charming and well appointed quinta close to Mesão Frio. Thye breakfast table could have benefitted from a little more variety & choice!
This place is amazing. It's a 'Quinta' so a Portuguese wine estate. It's set in the heart of the Douro valley in a stunning location. Although this estate does not produce wine, the views from the Estate are amazing and it's a very quiet and comfortable place to stay. The owners are very friendly and accommodating. I had dinner there and the food was amazing. Typical Portuguese food with traditional music playing in the background and of course porte wine. Had a very pleasant stay and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for accommodation.
Staying with Isobel and Eric was a unique experience. Our evening meal 'en famile' was a delight with four languages used. The site has fabulous views. The ancient buildings, decor and furnishings provide an unusual and delightful experience. This is is not your average hotel! There is nothing we didn't like, but here are some tips. You need a sat nav to find it - or good portuguese - it is remote. The Tourismo sign is the only clue. Ring in advance to book for your first evening meal. We didn't know that, but Isobel directed us to the local village restaurant here we had a good, cheap meal with the locals. Isobel doesn't take credit cards.
Breakfast was good. The pool looked dirty and the room wasn't comfortable.
The welcoming feeling by the hoster Isabel and the setting of the whole Quinta I loved every single bit. Shame that I couldn't be on a holliday
