Pros: Clean and hospitable
Cons: Nothing
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I stayed at the Lismore at more or less exactly the same time last year so I knew to expect excellence. The room although only for my single occupancy was twin bed so plenty of room to move and as with the rest of the property was spotlessly clean. I was welcomed by Claire who was very kind enough to carry my very heavy case to my room. Bed was really comfortable and shower was perfect. Breakfast was served by Brian and was absolutely spot on. Location is ideal being but a short walk from the train station although I'd suggest if you are of advancing years like myself it's worth paying the £3 for the very short taxi ride as Wellington Row is on quite a steep hill. There are plenty of drinking spots nearby, in fact The Shipwright Arms and The Bransty Arch are reached even before you've reached the Lismore. Loads of other places in town too. There are also plenty of eating spots suiting most tastes. There are at least three Indian restaurants within very easy reach. I'll be back and hopefully before another twelve months has passed. :-)
Cons: There is nothing not to like here.
6.8 Good

Pros: Good location from train station
Cons: Our room was on ground floor and next to the outside terrace hence needed to draw blinds most of the time

Pros: It was our second time staying at Grovewood House and just like the first time everything was absolutely wonderful. The room is beautifully decorated and the bed was just heavenly. Pros: Everything! The room was lovely with an amazing bathroom. Elaine really took care of us during our stay. Room was cleaned daily, fridge restocked. Elaine’s homemade bread and flapjacks are amazing
Cons: We loved everything.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Grovewood House, is like a little piece of Heaven. The owner "Elaine" is a true gem, she can not do enough for you. Her own cooked flapjack jack and bread is to die for, which is left in your room daily. The bedroom is out of this world, having the most comfiest bed in the world and having everything at hand you could possibly want. There is fridge in your room, this contains your breakfast with a variety of foods stored inside. This was perfect for us because it meant we wasn't having to stick with a timetable for breakfasts in the morning. You can just graze at will, perfect! Has the bedroom is exceptionally nice, the bathroom is in a league of its own! It is huge....the double shower with steam room and blue tooth speakers. It has two amazing the sinks, but the jacuzzi bath is to die for. I recommend night time baths to get the full benefits of the multi-coloured lights in the bath. I cannot say enough positive and amazing things about this guest house...other than book it and try!!. you will not be disappointed!

Pros: We used this hotel as it was a little cheaper being a little more towards the coast and out of the main area of the Lakes and it had excellent reviews. We fully agree with those reviews in that the hotel was run by very friendly and helpful staff, the room was large and the bar and restaurant on hand to provide a lovely evening meal, a few drinks and an excellent breakfast. It was not too far from either the Lakes especially Ennerdale Water or the coast and it suited us just fine.

Pros: This hotel is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. Its very well decorated, the rooms, while not large, are very nicely decorated/furnished and very comfortable. The food in the restaurant is excellent, with an excellent choice of food. However, above all, what makes this hotel is all the staff. Who made us feel very welcome and could not do enough for us. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

8.0 Excellent
Pros: Bathroom was modern and shampoo was great. Breakfast was very good, too.
Cons: There was no wifi in the room. The common room is basically just the breakfast room with uncomfortable chairs and laid tables but even there wifi reception was fickle. It only worked outside in the garden - bad luck for you if it rains. The house is located right on Main Street and soundproofing of the windows is lousy. Luckily there is not much traffic at night but bring ear plugs if you want to sleep in. The bed was too soft and right next to the head is a trap door going out to the roof which I found rather weird.

Pros: Lovely location
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Welcoming proprietors, lovely house with very nice garden where you can sit and relax amongst the flowers. A peaceful area within walking distance of Whitehaven and St Bees......which we enjoyed very much. Our room was well furnished with comfortable chairs, fireplace and tv. You can use the microwave in their kitchen which was handy for us as we did not have a car and there isn't a restaurant nearby that we knew of. We had a most enjoyable evening sitting in the garden and ate our meal at a large dining table in another room. Breakfast was served in another very stylish room and was fantastic and varied.. They run a very efficient guest house and as the building is quite big they aim to progress with additional types of accommodation in the future....so watch this space. Decor, cleanliness and style all agreeable in this historical 18th century building in a pleasant area. We used the train at both Whitehaven and St Bees and found both places to be very impressive with superb views.
Cons: No problems at all here. .........and we travel a lot.

6.8 Good
Pros: We stayed in a beautiful room with plenty of space. The breakfast and the service was very good
Cons: We were booked to stay for one night and there was a private dinner on which meant that we couldn't eat there. We did find plenty of other restaurants but this meant driving. We ate out and then discovered that we couldn't use the lounge facilities at the hotel to have a drink when we returned. We bought drinks and stayed in our room. On payment of the bill the price of one drink was deducted as it was returned but another two drinks were mistakenly added This was resolved but overall the experience of staying in what is a lovely hotel was spoiled

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Bed was perfectly comfy!
Cons: The toilet tissue was packed and folded on itsself in the container so I had to sort it myself as we couldn't take any out!
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Breakfast, room
Cons: WiFi wasn’t too good the rest was excellent
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast is brilliant
Cons: Nothing really, good hotel
7.5 Good
Pros: Staff are excellent! Very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area.
Cons: Our room was stiflingly hot! Over 28•C and NO air con! Absolutely crazy! The window only opens a couple of inches, and other than an electric fan that was blowing hot air, there was no way of cooling the room. Whilst the beds were comfortable, we couldn’t sleep because of the heat. This is a major downfall and really should be addressed, especially with the hotter weather we are experiencing in our country year on year. It does deter me from staying at a Premier Inn again. A designated smoking area would also be helpful, so as us non smokers don’t have to walk through a plume of smoke to get in and out of the foyer to the rooms. It also would stop the foyer from stinking of cigarettes.

9.3 Excellent
Pros: Good breakfast, friendly staff.
Cons: Paint the wall on the adjacent building on the left of the entrance as this detracts from the lovely facade. Perhaps place a couple of big planters at the entrance to create some colour amd a sense of welcone.

Pros: Picked primarily for location. Staff friendly and helpful.
Cons: In town and coastal so evening's noisy until late. One bedroom had an unpleasant smell.

8.8 Excellent
Pros: Room and staff. parking. Area
Cons: Bar was closed on a Saturday and there’s no other place in walking distance to have a drink also think breakfast should be included in price
3.8 Mediocre
Cons: The location is fine but the smell is terrible. The place smells literally like a dirty male locker room in the main corridors and literally stinks. It is old, tired and very much utilitarian. If you can imagine police training or military training establishments then this is the place. I could hear everything in the next room and as the room was chilly I turned the radiator on. Good grief - very very loud radiator noise. Not a good experience at all.
9.3 Excellent
Pros: Night staff and dining room staff were happy and gr8. Food was ok too. Breakfast menu was confusing as offered continental for 5.5 and 1.4 extra for cooked as well. Or cooked from 6.9 so same price maybe it's the customers that caused that to be like that
Cons: Milks in room were off and quite disgusting. Staff member that checked us out wasnt bothered and seemed like just wanted rid of us. Dining room staff were gr8 and friendly too. Night staff/security guard was excellent as got fresh milks in middle of night. Rooms ok and value for the money you paid. Just a couple of niggles
7.5 Good
Pros: It was a very late check in for me (11.30pm) the young man that checked me in was very pleasant. The room was clean and had everything I needed for an overnight stay. Was again checked out by a very pleasant receptionist. Would stay here again and would recommend.

Pros: See answers above.
Cons: Not exactly a 'didn't like', but the comms between staff could be better. I paid in advance and thankfully had proof with me. Man on reception said I hadn't, till I proved otherwise.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast and facilities
8.8 Excellent
Pros: We checked in late and checked out early so didn’t get to experience the bar / restaurant but it all looked great. Looks and feels like student halls (which I think is what it is) but it was perfect for us!!
Cons: Nowt!

Pros: The breakfast was lovely and the staff were friendly. The conservatory where we ate breakfast had lovely views.
Cons: The hotel rooms were tidy but dated and one of the corridors had an unpleasant smell of damp. Also prefer the room kettle to be empty on arrival and a blind on the bathroom window would have been nice.

Pros: We were upgraded at no extra cost to the bridal suite; the room was huge and beautiful! All of the staff were really helpful and friendly and the onsite restaurant has lovely food. Breakfast was hearty and had lots of choice. All linen and towels were spotless! The location is so very quiet and peaceful, the views are stunning!! We will definitely be staying again.
Cons: We couldn't find a kettle to begin with but we were very quickly supplied with one. The jacuzzi bath tub didn't work.
5.5 Okay
Pros: Staff friendly but rushed off there feet .
Cons: Rooms really in need of update . Carpets in corridors really dirty and old . Breakfast really cold and waiting time bad girl serving very poilet but run of her feet . Overrall needs updating. One night stay would have been really upset if booked longer.
3.0 Mediocre
Pros: Nothing.
Cons: Dirty, floors sticky. Hairdryer had melted and burnt out. Went down to breakfast,to be told there was none at all,as there had been a fire in the kitchens months ago. Was meant to stay 2 nights, but left after the first night. Worst hotel I think I've stayed in!!!
