Pros: Lovely new facilities in a restored village house next to the church. Catarina is very efficient and friendly. Good continental breakfast and very good value all round.
Cons: The village church is a place of religious pilgrimage. Access is controlled during peak times like weekends and religious holidays. Guests should be advised to inform security where they are staying. Parking could be tricky but I did not have a problem.

Cons: The wi-fi connection is really really poor in the rooms and even in the lobby. Please improve this!

Pros: It is a favourite hotel , we have been here several times. The location is excellent, once you find it, but it does require careful navigation and may involve driving through narrow roads in an old village if you don't find the way round. Hills and wild country within reach. Food is excellent, and the staff are very friendly. However, do not expect them all to be as fluent in English as in many better known Portugese areas.

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Lovely little old style hotel right across the street from the bus station, and just 200m from the city gate to old town. You can see the gate from outside the hotel. The hotel is very well run, and well kept. I loved the old wooden interior with several antque items, all in spotless condition. The staff is super friendly, and although no English is spoken, they communicate admireably nevertheless. It's a nice little bar on the first floor, which is perfect, as most likely, the bus will drop you here late in the evening. A couple of tables on the balcony outside the bar as well. There is a convinience store downstairs and a snack bar next door. The breakfast is included, and it's superb, worthy a 4 stars hotel. This hotel is an excellent backpacker and tourist class hotel, with well equipped rooms and very nice bathrooms. Very good lights in the room as well. Just inside the city gates there is a lovely little restaurant open until late, catering for the late arrivals. It has very affordable prices.
Cons: It was nothing at all which I did not like.

Pros: Lovely location just outside the city walls. Nice folks, great breakfast and great value. Easy access to old city which is lovely.
Cons: We had a hard time finding a restaurant at 8 pm. We happened on Dom Gabriel which we took for a taverna. We were very wrong. A lovely restaurant with fabulous cuisine at a surprisingly good price. Menu is not in English (hello we are in Portugal I agree) but do go. You will be very pleasantly cared for.
7.1 Good

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Family run hotel who couldn’t do enough for you. Beautiful hotel and rooms. Spotlessly clean and stunning decor in the bedroom we were allocated. Lovely breakfast in the cafe next door, run and owned by the owners. Really comfy beds. Parking is in the buildings own courtyard.
Cons: Just be aware that the hotel is on top of the hill next to the cathedral. Quite a steep treck on a motorbike up cobbled streets. Would be fine by car. And access to the hotel rooms were by a flight of very high steps. Think an older couple or people with a disability would find it difficult. Unless they have a different access to accommodate people with difficulties walking.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The building was very old furnished with antiques
Cons: The bed was hard
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Fantastic 17th century bed and breakfast next to the amazing 14th century cathedral, all within the old walled Centro Historica area of the city of Guarda. Beautiful room with typical Portuguese furniture, super comfy bed, gorgeous linens and a bathtub! The owner Elena and her staff are exceptional and provided extra special care while I had a lousy cold. Drop back in time and stay at this magical location.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: A lovely room in a lovely old house next to the cathedral and main square. The host has little English but it works! Breakfast is in the cafe next door and pretty basic, but ok. There’s a fabulous Winebar a few doors down that is well worth a visit for tasting and restaurant recommendations.
Cons: The wifi was weak, and the breakfast didn’t open til late on a Sunday but was ok.
9.0 Excellent
Pros: The staff was really helpful. When I asked for some drinks and ice (there was no mini bar) she made all the effort to get me some for the evening.
Cons: No mini bar

9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great owners.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We came to Quinta Do Moinho during our motorcycle tour when we visited many places in Portugal and Spain, and it was by far the best place we stayed at. It is in the Sera da Estrela mountain range (National park), near a small village and not far away from the stunning Guarda town. The surroundings are beautiful and serene...there is even a small river running through the property (Quinta do Moinho in portuguese means Farm of the Mill, because there is an old water mill inside). The hosts are locals and they are so friendly and welcoming. There you just have this feeling that you are on a place that is somehow out of this world, so peaceful and enchanting.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Great restaurant nearby. Generous host.
Cons: This property didn't really meet our parrticular style of travel. There was nothing wrong but it was too remote from places that we wanted to visit. Good for relaxing but that is not what we wanted.

Pros: Great country place. Great if you have dogs. Wonderful breakfast. Hosts brilliant.
Cons: Nothing
7.5 Good
Pros: Very welcoming hosts and lovely location!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We were upgraded to a lovely apartment with a view of the river and a large balcony. The location was rural but the facilities were sufficient to eat in. The mountains were beautiful.
Cons: If we had been in the apartment booked we would not have had the views.
7.0 Good
Pros: The apartment and the whole estate was in an extraordinarily spot surrounded by the very nature of Serra de Estrela. We had an exceptional breakfast also with a pastel de nata for dessert. The host lady was very welcoming and nice to talk to. Also fully helpfull!
Cons: We had not booked the room we got when we arrived. The host told us that they had two reservations for the same room (from two different booking sites). She decided to give the room that we also booked to the others. So we had to stay in an apartmand which was basically in the basement of the main building. Having two very small windows above the doors. It would have been nice if we had have a choice about this room change.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Very beautiful place, quiet and comfortable
Cons: No Wifi in room

9.2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel, staff were very informative, and the rooms were lovely
Cons: The internet didn't work in the room, the aircon had a flashing fault light, which meant it failed to work, although it had a shower head, there was no wall bracket to hang it from
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Linhares is quite a unique area and well worth visiting. The hotel combines new and old architecture very well while keeping lovely gardens and terraces in the old tradition. Uncrowded, peaceful atmosphere.
Cons: Nothing much really. No tea or coffee in the room though.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Surprising lovely hotel in a historical small village.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Wonderful location on the edge of a beautiful village. Two old houses which have been restored nicely and communicated by a modern construction... Spacious room with beautiful views. Nice garden with swimming pool and tennis court. The girls at the reception where very friendly and helpfull.
Cons: I missed a good cup of coffee at breakfast and a shower head holder (hold the shower head in one hand while you're taking a shower...) Good matress but unfortunately with a plastic under sheet.. No free sockets for mobile or laptop chargers... not even in the bathroom.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: A stunningly beautiful hotel in a breathtakingly beautiful setting. The medieval village is awesome. The interior is fabulous and the grounds equally so. We thought it would make a great venue for a wedding.
Cons: It may be because it was out of season but there was no restaurant in either the hotel or the village. Nearest place to eat was 50k away. We ended up in MacDonalds!
9.2 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel and really well kept grounds, very scenic and lovely! Helpful staff who even returned my sons shirt which got left behind in the wardrobe! Only one local restaurant but it was great and you felt very welcome I would highly recommend !
Cons: We checked out before 8am so there was no staff to speak to, not a big deal but it did mean we had to settle the mini bar tab after departing
7.5 Good
Pros: The rooms were very nice and the hotel layout is good. Breakfasts were great.
Cons: Unfortunately, the air conditioning went out in the hotel, but the person at the front desk the first night wasn't aware. It was one of the hottest days of the year and it was very warm in our room, making it difficult to sleep. The morning after, the person at the front desk asked if we would like to change rooms to one in the front of the hotel where the A/C was working. Of course we said yes. Not sure if we could have done that the night before and been more comfortable. Most of the people working the front desk spoke very little or no English making it difficult to communicate.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Location
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Another fabulous conversion of a historic manor house. Someone [ EU ] spent a lot of money doing a great design job. New and old blended very well. Nice rooms, big bathrooms. Great beds. AirCon. A small historic village with a nice castle and an easy walk from the hotel. Quiet. Recommended.
Cons: Reception is always a hit or miss in these places... nice women, but more into chatting with themselves. NO restaurant... and the other restaurants... well one had closed down 3 months ago. the other one was closed the day we were here... 15 km to the next one. I find it hard to take that such a nice place has no food service..!!! Getting drinks from the bar meant going to reception... see above...! As usual... Portugal is NOT a service oriented place.!
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Great location, comfy bed, quite impressive architectural work in the building.
Cons: 1. charmless: the interior design is painfully bad, with plastic flowers everywhere and random empty vases, functionless big tables and other fake attributes of ‘style’ (which the hotel does not have) 2. breakfast was just bad: no proper coffee (only the big nespresso machine that makes it from powder), no fresh juice (a standard for Portugal, every 40-60 eur hotel has it..did not expect some sugary water from an 80eur place),stale pastry, no local cheese (hello, it is Serra de Estrela with a huge variety of local cheese!) 3. NO ECO concerns: they had single-use plastic cups wrapped in plastic! all sanitaries were in single-use plastic bottles, even the solid soap was in plastic - obviously I did not use any of it. NOT SUSTAINABLE, and this is wrong given that this is clearly a leisure hotel where I want to feel good about myself.

Pros: Really wonderful! Host very welcoming, kitchen and bathrooms were clean, and the pool table was a lot of fun. Lovely garden to enjoy.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The character was unique and the gardens lovely. Despite the age of the building all appliances worked well lovely hot water in the shower. We had the place to ourselves and used the kitchen which was great. A nice character place
Cons: Being an old property there was little natural light inside
8.3 Excellent
Pros: This was a stay with a difference. A very old property converted to a BB. Everything worked and the owner helpful and obliging - we did not take advantage of the garden but it looked nice. Not a lot of accommodation in this area so it served its purpose and worked for us !
Cons: Highly polished wooden floors and loose mat coverings !!!! If you are a bit unsteady on your pins beware. Likewise, the paths in the garden leading to rear of house were a little uneven. Whilst both were not a problem to us, definitely potential for mishaps. Meant as an observation not a criticism.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: We have been on the way from Madrid to Porto and decided to make one stop over in the Portuguese Mountains because of our young daughter (6 month). Casa do Brigadeiro was close to the highway and a real experience! The complete hotel is a hommage to the good old times! You really felt like in a former Portuguese manor house! One highlight definitely was the breakfast room with the pool billiard table. The little village itself as a great inside in the Portuguese society „behind the tourism curtains“ - an piece of authentic Portugal rural life! One advise: if you like it more quiet ask for one of the lovely room with garden view! The other side is facing to the street with may be a little louder. A pitty that not more guests joined this experience.

7.5 Good
Pros: Calm atmosphere. Nice staff, always very kind and helpful.
Cons: The Spa needs remodeling, it felt dark and dirty. Breakfast juices too sweet, poor coffee.. was mediocre overall. Was expecting better for a 4 star hotel.
7.5 Good
Pros: The junior suite was spacious and very quiet, internet was fast and the staff were very helpful and friendly.
Cons: The mattresses were a few grades to rigid for a comfortable night sleep and there was no complimentary water available in the rooms. The hotel unit is clearly dated and in need of an upgrade.

Pros: Traditional style cottage and amazing bread for breakfast. Hugo gave us some recommendations for places to visit which were spectacular.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything! Beautiful place and nice people. The owner is very helpful and attentive.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The ownèr incredibly helpful carrying luggage up and down outside stone staircase, giving tour of farm, serving breakfast in our dining room and chatting to us about location, Portuguese family values, places to visit after our exit en route to Coimbre. We loved the peace, being part of comfortable farming environment. Wonderful log fire set in our sitting room each evening.
Cons: This is nit picking as we loved our stay especially as both feeling under the weather. House could have been warmer on arrival. It was chilly. Sheets on bed a little small and did not tuck in. Kitchen range hood really greasy. No chopping board. Breakfast dishes left on table and not cleared in morning. Better arrangement could be made to streamline this. This is an old farm and many improvements being made with next generation taking over.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amazing location. This accommodation seems to be a leap into a dreamy place where time stands still. It is a modern cottage with all the amenities. Bed is extremely comfy and the house very warm, especially with the hearty fire lit on. The hosts were so nice and accommodation and offered us plenty of pointers as to where we could eat and visit, in the region. Breakfast was really nice and all produced on the farm, or close by. The farm is amazing! Highly suggested to go round this farm and understand how it all works. Will surely visit again! Highly recommended!
9.6 Excellent
Pros: I arrived by car only after it was completely dark so it was a bit hard to locate the property even with GPS. Neighbors knew it immediately though. The owner was friendly enough to take me to a quick tour on the ranch where sheep, horses and checkens rest. I regret I couldn’t be there when the cattles were out next morning! Basic breakfast in private dining room, cozy fireplace, domestic herding dogs. Loved it.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: Wow! What a wonderful place to stay! The Quinta do Pinheiro is an absolutely deliightful accomodation, rurally located in the region of Guarda. The rooms and grounds were very clean at all times. The rooms are elegant and old-world in design --- beautiful stone walls. Breakfasts are quite adequate. The family and staff are incredibly nice at every opportunity -- always willinng to help. The swimming pool is a real plus, as the weather was quite warm during our stay. Internet access was great, and very helpful. This Quinto is perfectly located to explore the National Park and surrounding area, including the city of Guarda. After a full day of exploring, it was great to return to the peace and quiet of Q'a do Pinheiro. Well done! Thanks!
Cons: Nope, nada, nyet, zip, no way!
